Colossians 3:12-17 & Ephesians 5:20

Today we read Paul's letter to the Colossians. He writes, " And whatever you do, whether in word or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." The kids will learn that this really means in whatever we do. We don't give thanks or serve God only when we are having fun or getting a gift.  To help them understand, we use real life examples: Instead of complaining that they they have to clean up their toys, they can remember they get to clean them up because they are thankful God gave them toys to clean up. I hope  today's episode reminds your family of God's truth and encourages conversations.

Scripture Reference: 2 Kings 7:1-16, Proverbs 3:5

In the city of Samaria, there was a big problem—no food! Four lepers decide to go to the enemy camp to see if they can find anything to eat. To their surprise, they find the camp empty! Tune in to hear what God did that caused the camp to be empty and save the people in an unexpected way. 

• Kids will define what a famine and prophet are.
•  We’ll discuss the power and goodness of God; how He provides in ways we’d never expect and that we can trust our loving Father. 
• We’ll discuss how the lepers understood that to stay silent and to selfishly not share the blessings would be sin.  They knew others had no food!  They had a responsibility to share the good news.

  Acts 9:10-19

 In this episode of our "Hidden Gems" series, we delve into the remarkable story of Ananias, a disciple in Damascus, who is instructed by God to visit Saul (later known as Paul). Saul, notorious for persecuting Christians, has been blinded following his dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. Despite knowing Saul's fearsome reputation, Ananias obeys God's command and what happens? Saul gets baptized; setting Saul on a new path as a follower of Jesus.

Statistics are showing an increase of worry and anxiety in children.  This will be a little different from our usual episode but the Bible has a lot to say about this so we thought we should address it.  We will differentiate between fear, worry, and and anxiety and give each emotion their own episode.

Kids Bible Stories Podcast: Episode - "Jesus: The True Light"

In today's episode, we explore the powerful message of Jesus as the ultimate beacon in our lives, shining brighter and truer than any other source. We learned that Jesus describes Himself as "the light of the world," offering us guidance, peace, love, forgiveness, and direction unlike any other. Unlike deceptive lights in the world, like the angler fish's lure, which may seem appealing but lead to harm, Jesus' light is always genuine and life-giving.

We also delved into how God's word acts as a lamp for our feet and a light on our path, guiding us through life's journey. This divine light isn't found in the shows we watch, the advice of friends, or the allure of commercials enticing us to desire material things. It's in the Bible, God's word, which always leads us toward what's truly good.

We discussed the importance of discerning between the misleading "lights" of the world—like the temptations of consumerism or messages that encourage disrespect—and the one true light, Jesus, who desires what's best for us. Remember, the next time you're faced with a decision or a direction, ask yourself: does this align with the light that Jesus offers?

We continue our Easter series.  I respect each listener's ages and levels of understanding, so I have adapted some of these for the needs of our audience. Please go back and read the scriptures yourselves to include what is appropriate for your family.

This story begins in the garden of Gethsemane and ends with Jesus being arrested. We remember that Jesus could have whispered 1 word and 100’s of angels would have appeared to rescue him BUT he didn’t do this. Why?

Because He chose to. He chose to obey God b/c he loves God the father!!!! God’s plan had been there all along to rescue us b/c he loves us that much!

The children will be reminded that Jesus is always in control and that He loves them very much!

4. Explain the connection of the last supper and communion.

As always it will be a fun journey that engages the kids and is explained on their level so they can apply and remember it. We want them to know that God's word is for them, He loves them, and they can know Him!

Genesis 9:8-17

Genesis 8:15-19

We listen in as the ark becomes a hive activity. Even the animals must have sensed the excitement that they were getting close to exiting the ark! Oh to stretch their legs and run full speed using the strong legs God had given them!

We discuss what it must have been like to leave the known, safety of the ark for something new. Kids will consider times in their life when they experienced going from something known to the unknown and how we can trust God during it.

Genesis 8:6-12

In today's episode we hear Noah send out first the raven and then the dove. Will the birds bring back good news of dry and?

Genesis 8:1-5 & 2 Peter 3:9

The rain stops, God sends a wind that makes the water level decrease, and the ark hits solid ground as it sits atop a mountain! They may  have expected to step onto dry land immediately, but God had a different plan.

They waited 150 days on the ark as the waters slowly vanished.

We are reminded that even in the waiting, God was working. God never forgets & He is always faithful.

Genesis 7:11-20

The rain begins and continues for 40 days and 40 nights. Even though the ark goes through rough waters, Noah, his family, and the animals remain safe inside just as God promised. The kids will love hearing this one come to life!

Kids will be reminded that when they feel like life's storms are tossing them around, to:

remember Noah

remember the ark

and most importantly, remember that just as God protected Noah, and Jesus calmed the sea, God is still watching over you, keeping you safe in the storms of life.

How do I know I can trust him? Because of the cross. I look to it and  remember that God sent his only son, Jesus. That Jesus died on the cross and rose again. He rescued us when we couldn’t rescue ourselves. He loves you that much!

Genesis 7:1-10 & Ephesians 4:3  Your kids will love this one! Noah, his family, and allllll those animals wait for 7 days inside the ark for the rain to begin. Kids will note that lions were with lambs, cats with mice yet somehow, they got along. We will hear that God is all powerful; taking care of every single detail. Noah didn’t know how it was all going to work but God didn’t say he needed to know.  He just needed to have faith to do what he was called to do and God would take care of the rest: including making those animals get along. We also discuss how we are to "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." Genesis 6:9-14 & John 14:1-2

In our last episode, we discovered that the world had gone wrong, and today we are going to learn how God used Noah who seemed ordinary, but he faithfully walked with God.

We put ourselves in Noah's shoes considering what it may have felt like to be him. Noah probably recognized  how big this mission was going to be. He would have considered the practical challenges of constructing an ark of such colossal proportions. It may have felt both awe-inspiring and scary yet Noah trusted God and obeyed Him.

David was anointed to be king but in the waiting he beats Goliath. We play a game of WHAT IF. What if David had a bad attitude while doing the ordinary things that day? Kids will hear:

Today Elijah finds the man who will be taking his place… Elisha. Elijah throws his cloak onto Elisha symbolizing that he is next....tagging him to take his place.

We discuss that when God called Elisha, he was doing normal, every day work. Sometimes our work or tasks may seem "normal"( ie: learning to read, helping with the dishes, etc) BUT they all have purpose when we do them with excellence to glorify God AND often God uses those things to prepare us for what's next.

On today's episode we find Elijah hiding in the cave. Instead of hearing God fuss at Elijah, we hear him as a gentle, loving father asking Elijah what he is doing there. Wind blows, the earth quakes, and fire burns; we see God's mighty power on display but even in that, he is still found in the whisper. God is close enough that Elijah can hear his whisper.

1 Kings 19:1-8

As you have followed along with our Elijah series you've probably noticed Elijah has been obeying God and doing the right things, but today he gets some scary news from Jezebel and now Elijah says he has had enough.

God's response to Elijah's cry is beautiful. He doesn't downplay Elijah's feelings or scold him. Instead, he sends an angel to provide food and water. When we are hungry and tired, our emotions can run wild. Sometimes it's those simple provisions of food, water, and rest that seem simple but are exactly what we need for our strength.

The kids will hear that Elijah was a real human with real feelings and fears; real needs like food and rest. When we feel like we've had enough, we can talk honestly to God just like Elijah did and God will be right there to listen and comfort us too.

1 Kings 18:40-46 & James 5:17 Today we hear Elijah tell Ahab that the drought is finally ending. Elijah knows the rain is coming but it is not until the seventh time that his servant makes the trip to the sea that there are signs of rain. Elijah faithfully waits and sends his servant to look over and over again. God was with Elijah when things happened immediately like in last week's episode, BUT He's also with him in the waiting. I point out that the Bible says that Elijah was a man like us. That gives us encouragement that we too can pray fervently as he did. Today we meet faithful Obadiah who hid the Lord's prophets in caves to protect them from Jezebel. We connect Obadiah's actions to what St Augustine said,  “ Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is still  wrong even if everyone else is doing it.”

Some days at school you may feel like your family is the only one who thinks and acts the way God wants us to, it’s still right even if it seems like you’re the only one AND remember this, the enemy would love for you to believe the lie that you’re the only ones left doing what is right, loving and obeying God. That is not true though. In today's story and all throughout the Bible you can hear over and over again that there is always a remaining group of people who love and follow Jesus. You aren’t alone.

The widow was a real woman with real feelings and fears. Elijah's request required the widow to practice faith. She had to choose to walk by faith and not by sight. This is part 1 in our short series where we find Jesus being tempted in the desert by the devil. We will learn that  the devil is always a slick and slimy one trying to twist God's words. The devil tries to tempt Jesus into proving that He really is God's son. Of course Jesus is God's son! Jesus knows this truth and does not need to prove anything to the devil so He does not fall for it. We learn that we too can remember the truth of whose we are: we are loved children of God. We apply this truth to help us w/ pride or the feeling to prove ourselves.

Today we went through a little bit of a family tree as we followed the kings. We find that most of these kings follow in their father's footsteps and do not follow God. Nevertheless we hear that God does not withdraw His love and is faithful. He kept Jerusalem safe, sticking to His promise we heard Him give David many episode ago. The kids are reminded that God's love never changes. We see this evidence as we hear today's events and read Psalm 136.

Today we hear King Jeroboam's hand suddenly become paralyzed but then miraculously healed when the man of God prays for it. This still does not change Jeroboam's heart and he continues to do evil. We take note that even though Jeroboam still seems like the bad guy, the man of God prayed for him. 1 Kings 12:1- 17 

Today we hear how the kingdom becomes divided and review the sections each king rules, it's name, and the tribes of each. We also point out that the Bible says these events are brought about by the Lord, that He might fulfill his word, which the Lord spoke by Ahijah to Jeroboam. It reminds me there will be times in life where it's not always as it seems. I imagine some in the kingdom were upset and concerned that the kingdom was dividing, but we can trust that God is in complete control. He just told them that the  situation  they are going through was from Him. He was still in control and had plans that they couldn’t quite understand.

Though Solomon sinned, making us wonder how the promise could ever be kept, the kids will see the Gospel woven throughout the Bible as they hear again the promise is fulfilled in the one who was born that Christmas day....Jesus. Jesus Christ will sit on the throne and His kingdom will have no end. What wonderful news!

 Today we begin to comprehend just how wealthy Solomon was. With his wealth and his wisdom, Solomon tells us anything he saw and wanted, he got. This might sound incredible but Solomon learned a very valuable lesson that everything is meaningless without God. Things or fame, none of that will satisfy us fully because what we are really searching for is God. The Creator of our souls is the one who satisfies us. The kids will hear examples of this so they can begin to understand how this applies to their own lives.

We are continuing our Solomon series. If you’ve missed a few, I'd highly recommend you go back and listen as they build upon themselves.Today's episode picks up after Solomon completed the temple (episode # 280). We listen in as Solomon prays to the Lord and hear what the Lord says to Solomon in return. The Lord warns him and his descendants not to turn away from Him, not to wander and serve other gods. The kids will begin to understand that out of His love, God gives us rules and consequences. When he tells us to do something it's because it's for our own good! He wants to protect us and He offers us things that are real, lasting, and loving versus other things that have fake promises. I try to help the children connect these dots with real life examples they can understand.

 Today we hear Solomon build a magnificent temple for the Lord. Below, there are links you can visit to see a video of what Solomon's temple looked like.
  We hear how  marvelous Solomon's temple was but the kids are reminded that Solomon didn't need to earn God's love and neither do we. 1 John 4:19 "We love because He first loved us."  God chose to love us first, we didn’t have to earn it by becoming rich and famous or building the most impressive building.  Sometimes people will only be kind or loving if they are first shown that. For example, you will only share your bike if they first share their rollerblades. That's not how God works. He shares His love with us first!

1 John 4:9-10: " This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and God sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins."

 Today, we hear Jesus promise to be with us ALWAYS! Not only on good days or when we are awake, but always!!! We hear Him say to go out and make disciples. The kids will learn what disciple means. We remember how far away most of us are from where the Gospel began and give  thanks for those He sent to share God's word.

 Ephesians 1:13  & Daniel 6:16- 17

 Today we continue our short series about the Holy Spirit. We hear the word seal or sealed  in the two Bible readings on this episode. But what does that mean? Paul said "And in Christ, God put his special mark on you, a seal,  by giving you the Holy Spirit that He had promised." 

We discuss what the signet ring was used for historically and its significance. When God sends us the Holy Spirit, it’s like God taking his special signet ring and stamping us with it.

 God’s seal shows the world that we are His! You are his very special, very loved, sons and daughters.

 Acts 1:12-14, 2:1-19, 32-33, 38-39, & John 14: 25

We start our episode hearing Jesus tell his disciples that the Father will send them the Helper, the Holy Spirit. But when will He send Him? Today's episode addresses this.  We fast forward to after Jesus has risen and returned to heaven. The kids will get a brief order of events to help them understand when the episode takes place. We hear the Holy Spirit arrive...howling wind, flames of fire, everyone miraculously speaking different languages... incredible !!!!! Peter addresses the crowd who is chuckling at this wild site. Peter explains what is happening and reminds them that the Holy Spirit is a gift from God.

 There is so much to say about the Holy Spirit. Today we will cover when He arrived and how He helps us. Next week we will discuss another aspect of the Holy Spirit so tune in. Your children may have many questions........mine asked me 10 questions about Heaven yesterday !  Don't shy away from them. Be honest. If you don't know, tell them you will look it up and see what your Bible says or other online, Biblically sound resources have to say. I've also found it helpful to ask them what they think. It gives you a gauge on what they already know and sometimes clarifies what they're actually asking. There will also be times we don't have an answer..God is God, we are not, so we don't know it all but, we can remind our kids that we can trust what He says & pray for help to understand his Word.

Acts 1:1-11 & Luke 24: 36-43

We just celebrated Christmas, which reminds us of Jesus' 1st coming. Today, we will hear the Bible teach about His second coming as we hear what the disciples experienced.   Jesus gave us  instructions on how we should live while we wait for him to return and guess what… He left us w/ some incredible promises as we wait too. We will talk about those more in the next episodes. For now, we remember we have hope. Why?  Because God always keeps his promise so when the Bible says Jesus will come back, we can trust Jesus will return and that, that  gives us hope.

Micah 5:2, John 3:16-18, & Luke 2:1-7

Today we learn what a prophet is when we introduce Micah. We discuss how Micah specifically told where Jesus would be born and we follow the journey God put Mary and Joseph on to get them from Nazareth to Bethlehem. God used different people, events, etc but it allllllll happened just as He said it would. This story also drives home John 3:16-18; that God sent his son Jesus, not to condemn the World, but to save us through Jesus. What a precious gift this is!

Today we hear that King Jehoshaphat and his people faced a war which they didn't want to be a part of. They still gave thanks to God during the tough time, even before the war was won.  We also briefly discuss the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and learn that the pilgrims and those in our Bible story had a lot of sad and hard things they could’ve focused on, yet they chose to look for some good things to thank God for. This doesn’t mean we have to put on a happy face or ignore sad feelings; it means we still trust that God is good, He loves us, and we can be thankful for that even in sad times. We will hear a special ending as our wonderful listeners chime in on what they are thankful for.

Today's story is shorter than usual b/c we need time to discuss it. In this episode, the Bible shows us Jesus is the best light, the real light. The kids will consider if there are bad lights. This is where our fireflies and fish discussion comes in.

 The magnificent light Jesus offers us helps guide us… “Your word is a lamp to my feet,
 a light on my path" through God’s word.

The kids will recognize that  some things try to be a brighter light than Jesus & pull our attention to it. Sometimes, these "lights" want to guide us and act like they are the best light but they aren’t. Only Jesus is the 1 true light, who wants what’s really best for us.

Today we hear Jesus gather more followers; Phillip and Nathanael. Nathanael doubts that the the savior could come from the town of Nazareth. We hear  Jesus' response to this and from it learn that Jesus knows what’s going on inside of us, our thoughts and feelings, and He knows what’s going on outside of us.  Jesus is such a powerful & loving father that there will never be a time when He does not know what’s going on in your life and that brings us comfort today.

Today we read Paul's letter to the Colossians. He writes, " And whatever you do, whether in word or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." The kids will learn that this really means in whatever we do. We don't give thanks or serve God only when we are having fun or getting a gift.  To help them understand, we use real life examples: Instead of complaining that they they have to clean up their toys, they can remember they get to clean them up because they are thankful God gave them toys to clean up. I hope  today's episode reminds your family of God's truth and encourages conversations.

We continue our compassion series. If you’ve missed the previous ones, please go back and listen as they build upon themselves. 

Today, we are learning about compassion from the one who did it best and of course, we are talking about Jesus. The scriptures will show how He had compassion on the hungry crowd. Today, we begin a series about compassion. We begin by defining it and seeing how Jesus showed us how to be compassionate through His actions. Jesus had just received some sad news about John the Baptist but despite this, he had compassion on the crowd. He healed the sick and fed them too. There is so much to learn from this story that we will do it again in the future to accommodate talking about more of it. The kids will be prompted to consider how they can show compassion to others.

 We pick up from last week's story where we find Paul on rough seas as he journeys to visit Caesar. Paul tells everyone about God's promise He has given him......and guess what!??!??! Every single one of those promises comes true! We discuss that God has given us promises too and read some of these from our Bible today. While we hopefully won't be on a creaky boat with waves crashing all around, we too have times where life feels stormy. The kids are encouraged to memorize some of God's promises so we can cling to them when life does get a bit stormy.

Acts 25:10-12 & 27:1-26

 This episode introduces Paul and gives a brief history about who he is. Paul is falsely being accused of breaking the law so he asked to be sent to Caesar, since he is a Roman citizen, and discuss his case with him. Today's story picks up here on this exciting journey. Paul boards the creaky ship bound for Italy but on the journey, they encounter rough seas. We will hear the promise God gives Paul and how Paul trusts God even in the storm. It ends in suspense so we will continue this story next week.

 Queen Esther saw a problem and instead of pushing it off on someone else to solve, Mordecai reminded her that maybe God made her queen for that exact moment. The kids will be reminded that like  Esther,  God has specific plans for them. God knows we will see certain problems or someone needing help and He wants US to be the one to help. Our loving God wants us to be included in His wonderful plans....the plans may be small or big, but each day God has a purpose for US !

 In today's story we hear Jesus teach "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” We discuss what greed actually is and share an example from my childhood that the kids can relate to. We must be on our guard as Jesus says, because often the world we live in tells us the opposite. It says your life is cool, amazing, and valuable IF you buy this thing or that thing. It is not wrong to want things.. we simply must be cautious that we don't become greedy with our wants. God wants us to trust that He will give us all we really need. He gives us reasons to trust him AND explains why his ways are best which will be discussed on the next episode.

If we quantified it, she gave less than others BUT Jesus still says she gave more than all those who contributed to the offering box. Hmmmm. What does this mean? Jesus had risen and his followers got to see him! All were overjoyed except the 1 who  wasn't there when Jesus came. Thomas had missed this incredible meeting and doubted what his friends were telling him. We note that Thomas was a real person just like us & like him, we can always talk to Jesus about our questions or doubts.  Will Jesus come back to show Thomas too?!? Mark 1:41-45 & 2:1-12

Today, we hear a paralyzed man get lowered from the roof in hopes to get in front of Jesus and be healed. I wonder if the paralyzed man was disappointed when the 1st thing Jesus says to him is "Young man, your sins are forgiven.” What? They had gone through all this trouble to have him walk again…what was this about sins?  As we continue the story, Jesus shows us that the biggest issue is our sin but the good news is that He can forgive them. We are reminded of the love He has for us as evidenced by the sacrifice He made to forgive us.

Daniel 4:28-37

In our last Daniel episode, episode #240, we heard the king writing a letter explaining a bizarre dream he had. If you missed it, make sure to go back and listen because this episode builds upon it. 

The king's dream ends up coming true & God humbles him in this process. We discuss the difference b/n humility and pride and are reminded that God was so patient w/ the king. God offers us this same, loving patience when we ask for his forgiveness. God doesn’t roll his eyes when we ask for forgiveness yet again but instead, he’s so patient, so loving, that he HE wants to hear from us.....bring us  back to Him when we wander off the path b/c He loves us so much!

Daniel 4:1-27

Today, we hear king Nebuchadnezzar have another dream. Daniel explains that this dream is from God and is a warning for the king. This dream is to help teach him a lesson: to stop doing wicked things and be kind & admit that God is the ultimate ruler of the kingdom and not him. We discuss how this applies to a child's life. The kids will  observe areas that we try to set up our own little kingdoms  and act as  king or queen & we end with being comforted by the reality that our all knowing, all loving, never changing God is the ultimate ruler.

Daniel 3

If you missed last weeks episode, I highly recommend you go back and listen as these will build upon themselves.

In today's story we hear king Nebuchadnezzar build a golden statue and demand that everyone must bow down to it.  What will the consequence be if they don't? We may not be asked to bow down to a statue but we must be careful because we too can make other things more important than God.... Just as king Nebuchadnezzar wanted that statue to be more important than God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's faith shines brightly in this story. It's easy for us to say "God I'll worship you because you gave me exactly what I wanted today." It's a different feeling when we can say “God I really hope this or that will happen BUT even if it doesn't , I will still love you and worship you." That’s what they did!

Even in one of their most frightening experiences, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had their Heavenly Father there with them. Just as He was there with them, He will be with you all of the days of your life.

The King has some confusing dreams and the only one who can explain them is Daniel. Daniel knew this was made possible b/c of God not him, so he made sure God received the credit. The kids are reminded to observe the wonderful things God allows us to do and be grateful versus puffing ourselves up as if it's all b/c of us. Some may think our examples don't seem incredible. God gave Daniel the ability to do something amazing! But the truth is, ours are actually miraculous things! They just seem normal b/c they happen day after day. We get used to seeing the miracle God provides each new day.

Today we hear Daniel asking permission not to indulge in the King's food b/c it would make him impure.  Daniel did not want to disobey God even though it seemed like everyone else was. We apply that our world or culture sometimes wants us to do things that God says not to do. We may feel the pressure to do it b/c well, everyone else is.  The kids see that Daniel knew what was right b/c he knew God's word and he chose to obey even if it seemed no one else was. The kids will hear examples of what this may look like in their own lives.

This is part two in our pride series. If you missed last weeks episode, please go back and listen.

Today we hear our Bible tell us that God knows everything, that he loves us, and that we can trust him. When we think we know better than God, then we are acting in pride. The Application section helps the kids connect the dots by using an example of a puzzle. We get glimpses of these tiny puzzle pieces in our lives and some pieces are confusing like Mary’s visit with the angel while other pieces are very exciting and happy!   But God sees the whole picture, our whole life... things we can’t but he can b/c God already sees it put together forming a beautiful, purposeful picture. 

 We must remember not to become prideful , when the pieces don’t make sense or maybe we don’t like them. We shouldn’t try to force pieces together that don’t fit.... then, comes pride: “But God, I know better, I want the picture to look like this, not that!”

  Last week, we learned about humility. Today we hear about its opposite… Pride.  Pride can take many forms but today, we are going to hear a made up story to show how pride goes before destruction and is damaging to yourself and others.....how pride can make us  care too much about what others think of us instead of what God thinks. We will hear the scriptures first and then move straight into the story. The Bible is where we go to to understand pride. We discuss the importance of always going back to the Bible because sometimes the world will teach the opposite. The world may clap for things that God tells us to steer clear from.

He teaches that " The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child."  This story will explain why children are used as an example of humility and we help the children connect the dots of applying this in their lives. We differentiate humility from speaking badly about yourself and hear what the Bible says about true humility.

Luke 7:36-50

This is a story about how to fall more in love with Jesus. We hear how a woman who realizes how serious her sin is suddenly now aware of just how sweet Jesus' forgiveness is. This realization turns her heart to love Jesus even more and from this love, she weeps, wetting his feet w/ her tears and using expensive perfume on them. Contrast this with the Pharisee who is there and how much love he shows Jesus. Knowing what is going on in the heart of the Pharisee, Jesus tells him a story to help him understand that he who has been forgiven little loves little. We do emphasis  that Jesus is NOT saying to go and do worse things to be forgiven for more severe things.

Luke 2:4-7 & Matthew 1:21 Today we hear the classic story of Jesus being born in Bethlehem. I am just getting over losing my voice so I apologize that it sounds different.  In our story, we hear that Jesus' birth changed everything. This was part of God's rescue plan but we contemplate what Jesus gave up when he came down to Earth and put on human flesh. The apply section speaks of the significance of His birth. To prepare for Christmas, we need to understand why Jesus' birth is such a big deal. To begin to grasp how important it is, we will rewind back to the Garden. I understand there are a variety of ages and backgrounds who are listening so I have tried to keep it age appropriate for most families.

1. Adam & Eve sinning & how that affects us.

2. We all need Jesus and His grace. Grace is a gift, not earned.

3. Sin separates us from God. We are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ.

Today we hear God provide in another mighty way as they begin to cross over to Jericho. We will recall similar ways He provided earlier in Exodus and how He told them to keep items to help their descendants remember. Last time it was a jar of manna and this time, it's something different. God knows we are prone to forget and He wants us to give ourselves and the next generation, reminders of how faithful He is. We hear what the Israelites used for their reminders and discuss what we have in our own lives that serve as reminders of God's faithfullness.

The people prepare to enter Jericho but 2 spies assess the land first and they receive help from Rahab. Rahab has heard of God's mighty works and offers to help them. We apply the truth that God is  with us too; even on those sad or frustrating days, God is with us!  We can be encouraged as Joshua was.

Today we get to hear what the people did while Moses was receiving the 10 commandments, hear the spies check out the promised land, and learn how Joshua and Caleb clung to God's promises. We hear them walk by faith and not by sight. We will hear that the unbelieving generation doesn't get to enter the promised land and how it will be their children who will enjoy the land flowing with milk and honey which God promised to them. The kids will apply God's promises to their own lives and think about which promises are easy to see and which are harder to see. The story connects the dots that we can trust God's promises, like Caleb and Joshua did, even when it can be hard.

Today we hear Moses called to the top of Mount Sinai where God gives him the 10 commandments. We learn what a commandment is. Next week, we'llgo through the 10 commandments and hear what they are but today, we will focus on why we even have them.

God gave them and us these 10 rules which showed how life worked best. We begin to understand that rules are there to protect us b/c God loves us. The kids apply this to a rule in their life to help them better understand this.

Today we hear about the battle with the Amalekites. During this battle, Moses must keep his arms raised or else the Israelites begin to lose! When Moses grew tired, he had two helpers at his side: Aaron & Hur. We apply that God gives us people to help us too. God created us to be with others.... to have family and friends, a church, & a community. He gives us people who can help us when we grow tired, just like he did for Moses.

Today, we hear the Israelites struggling in the desert as they journey to the promised land. The Israelites thought this hardship meant God wasn’t among them but that’s simply not true. We hear how God is with the Israelites and provides for them time and time again.

We continue our Exodus series. God instructs Moses and Aaron to place some manna in a jar for the next generation. As time passes and the Israelites get older, God wants them to be able to see that manna sitting in the jar and remember that time in the desert,....remember what God did and his faithfulness. They’ll continue to tell their children,  grandchildren, & great grand children the miraculous story of what happened to them in the desert. We apply this to our lives and recount if we have items in our life that serve as reminders of how good God is. We discuss ideas to use for this and help get the family involved.

Exodus 16: 17-31

Today, we hear how some of the people did not listen to God's instructions about gathering manna. The Israelites, didn’t listen to God b/c they didn’t trust Him. They didn’t trust He would rain down bread again the next day ...they didn’t trust HE knew best.

We apply this to our lives and examine why we don't listen all the time either. The story reminds us that we can trust God AND if he is trustworthy, that means we can listen to Him. Listening means more than just hearing w/ your ears.. it also means, obeying with your actions. The Israelites who listened obeyed God’s instructions about gathering Manna.

Wandering in the desert, the people become hungry. God had just miraculously provided for them but  the Israelites have quickly forgotten. What an exciting story this is! God says the forecast is set for raining bread and meat!!!! The story reminds us yet again of God's faithfulness and how quickly we can forget it.  We discuss ways we can practice remembering God's provisions so we don't forget like they did.

Today we find Moses leading the Israelites in the hot desert when things become hard. They begin to grumble b/c they have no water! God had just performed an incredible miracle, saving them from the Egyptians by parting the Red Sea for them BUT the days were hard and they quickly forget that God can provide just as He always has. This story warns us to be cautious b/c we too, quickly forget good things from God and can begin to grumble just like the Israelites did. When things are hard, we can remember this story and choose to remember, what He’s done for us in the past. It doesn’t mean we can’t be sad, pray, or talk to Mom or Dad about how we feel, but it does mean we choose to remember the truth: that God is good, and God loves you even on those hard days…

Exodus 5&6:1-8

This is part 5 in our Exodus series. I respect each families ages/stages of life so I have adapted some of this. Please go back and read the scriptures to include anything else that is right for your family.

Today, we hear Moses obey God's instructions to tell the king of Egypt to let His people go. The king of Egypt is upset with Moses' request and makes things even harder for the people. Even though this king seems all powerful, there is 1 who is much more powerful than him. We will learn how God is all powerful and He is in control even when things don't always make sense. God tells them that He will rescue His people.

Exodus 4: 1-21

If you missed the last episodes, I would encourage you to go back and listen. The stories will build upon themselves and you’ll better understand how we got to where we are in our story.

In today's story we hear Moses telling God he shouldn't be the 1 to help b/c he is not a good speaker.  God reminds Moses that He gave Moses his mouth and it is Him, God, who makes man able to speak. Again we hear that it’s not about us, what we can do, but it’s about God and what HE can do.  The children will hear how this applies to their very own lives.

Exodus 3

Today, we continue our series in Exodus. This is part 3. Today's story will cover Moses seeing the burning bush & God telling Moses he will be used to go back to Egypt and rescue the people.  Wait until you hear Moses' response! I love that the Bible reminds us that the people in the Bible are real people, just like us. We will also learn that it's not about who we are but who God is.

I encourage you to go back and listen to the previous Exodus episodes as they will build upon one another. This will help the kids understand the full context as well.

This is the 2nd episode in our series on Exodus. We begin with Moses now a grown man. Moses ends up taking matters into his own hands and ends up fleeing from his home.  Our story will teach us some more about Moses but our big take away will be that God heard the Israelites cries. God hears in ways which we can not. He hears us no matter how we feel, where we live, or how many of us are talking at once. We will learn how He heard their prayers just as He hears us when we pray to him.

We will continue our exodus series that we started last year, picking up after the parting of the red sea. In preparation, we will be re-releasing the 1st episodes in this exciting series. We’ve been waiting all year to continue this story and can’t wait for you to hear what we have in store.

 Mark 10: 46-52

We find Bartimaeus crying out to Jesus for help. The crowd tells Bartimaeus to be quiet. Who is he that Jesus would want to hear from him?!?! Jesus hears all of us when we call out to Him. Whether popular or outcast, whether we are calling out amongst a noisy crowd or sitting quietly in our room, Jesus hears us and listens just like He did for  Bartimaeus. The application section at the end helps the kids apply this story to their prayer life.

Matthew 16:13-19

Today, we hear Jesus asking his disciples who people say He is. Their response is interesting. We are reminded to go back to our Bibles to check if what others say about Jesus is actually true. Next, we hear Jesus ask," Who do YOU say I am?" This is an extremely important question!  The children will be encouraged to ask themselves who they say Jesus is and what He is like. I emphasis the importance of seeing if this lines up w/ what the Bible says and to discuss this w/ their family this week.

Today we hear the miracle of Jesus feeding over 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. The application section connects the dots that when Jesus wants us to do something, He’s already given us ALLL that we need to do it. The disciples were told to look at what they did have and use that! What didn’t make sense to them, made sense with God. What didn’t seem like enough, God could make it enough.

COLOSSIANS 2:13-15

Recently, we celebrated Easter and since that time, parents have been sending in fantastic questions kids have had; many of them related to Easter. I am going to do my best to answer PART 2 of the more complex questions :Why Did Jesus Die? 

We use a story about two children who disobey the rules and play ball in the house. This ends with a window being broken and the understanding that someone must cover the cost of this mistake. The children realize they can not fix such an expensive mistake and must be forgiven and helped by their parents. Though the parents were not the ones that broke the window,  out of love and their ability to have money, they are able to cover this cost. 

 We use this example and connect the dots to the Bible that:

1. Our sin is very serious.

2. No human & no amount of money can fix our sins. Jesus is the only one who can save us. He never sinned.

3. Jesus cleaned up the mess we made and absorbed the cost himself when he died on the cross.

4. We all sin and can ask Jesus to forgive us.

 The Reason for God by Tim Keller. This is an adult book and covers many difficult questions which you can study and then teach your child on their level. 

 5 Truths About the Death of Jesus  This is an adult article from the Desiring God website. You will need to bring this down to a child's level but it is a good guide of what to begin covering with them.

Romans 3:23 -24 & John 3:16

Recently, we celebrated Easter and since that time, Parents have been sending in fantastic questions kids have had, many of them related to Easter. Today, we are dong a special episode as I do my best to answer one of the more complex questions : What did Jesus Save us from. I understand there are a variety of ages and backgrounds who are listening so I have tried to keep it age appropriate for most families.

1. Adam & Eve sinning & how that affects us. 

2. We all need Jesus and His grace. Grace is a gift, not earned.

3. Sin separates us from God. We are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ.

***** We will not discuss Hell in this episode. Hell is biblical and should be discussed in your family when it's appropriate. Today we get to hear the parable of the man who finds treasure in the field. In his JOY he goes and sells all he has to buy that field.  Our apply section will connect the dots that Jesus is saying : when we see that being w/ him is like finding treasure hidden in a field, we rightly see that no toy or superhero compares to our savior Jesus.

In today's story, we hear a letter from our friend Paul. He reminds us that when we feel nervous or anxious,  we should notice what we are thinking about. Sometimes our minds can run wild with crazy thoughts that just aren't true or good. Our feelings can lead us astray at times.

We will do something special today, and hear a short story about a girl named Kayleigh. Kayleigh is nervous about having to speak in front of her class BUT she remembers the Bible story her mom just read from Paul. Tune in to hear the story in action.

John 18, John 19 ,Luke 23, & Matthew 27  (EASTER PART 2)

Parents, today we are going to be talking about the cross. I respect each families ages/ stages life so I have adapted some of this. Please go back and read the scriptures listed including what is appropriate for your family.

 I will be talking about topics which you may not wish to discuss yet so please listen to this beforehand. We have done a younger version of this story which can be found on episode #96 called “he is Risen.” If you feel that is a better fit, please go listen to # 96 and save this one for when the time is right. 

In today's story, we hear Jesus speaking with Pilate.  Pilate thought he was in control but Jesus reminds him of the truth. We are comforted remembering Jesus is always in control even when things can seem scary or confusing. We end w/ Jesus' death on the cross. The story connects the dots that Jesus' love doesn’t change or depend on what you do. If you ever wonder if He loves you, you can simply remember what happened on the cross.

Matthew 26 :36-56

 Today begins our Easter series! I want to respect each listener's ages and levels of understanding, so I have adapted some of these for the needs of our audience. Please go back and read the scriptures yourselves to include what is appropriate for your family. 

I will also encourage you to listen to all of the episodes in this Easter series in order, as the stories build upon themselves.

This story begins in the garden of Gethsemane and ends with Jesus being arrested. We remember that Jesus could have whispered 1 word and 100’s of angels would have appeared to rescue him BUT he didn’t do this. Why?

Because He chose to. He chose to obey God b/c he loves God the father!!!! God’s plan had been there all along to rescue us b/c he loves us that much!

The children will be reminded that Jesus is always in control and that He loves them very much!

Mark 5:35-43

This is part 2 in our short series. If you missed #184, please go back and listen so you understand the context better. Today, we hear Jesus going to the home of Jairus to heal his very sick girl. It seems like Jesus is too late but his timing is perfect even if it doesn't make sense to us.  We are reminded that Jesus sees all and knows all. Jesus does heal the child and lovingly calls her "little girl." We are reminded that we have a loving, protective, and kind Father in Jesus. We too are his little children.
