In "Challenging New Age Myths: Authentic Shamanism," we explore what true shamanic practices entail beyond the surface of contemporary New Age interpretations. Hosted by Bram from Ayahuasca Alchemy, the podcast features an enlightening conversation with Angell Deer, the caretaker and founder of The Sanctuary, located in Upstate New York.
Conversation Highlights:
Healing Through Understanding: The interview discusses the transformative power of compassion and understanding in healing. Angell Deer poignantly describes how many individuals are often seen and treated as broken, leading to issues such as addiction and violence. Through a compassionate lens of love and humanity, he emphasizes that healing comes from understanding and embracing all parts of oneself rather than viewing individuals as fundamentally flawed or broken.
Introduction to Angel Deer and The Sanctuary: Angel Deer introduces The Sanctuary, a center that teaches shamanic studies. The space supports multiple traditions and protocols and hosts retreats and trips to places like Peru. Angell elaborates on his background, primarily influenced by Andean cosmology, along with including Native American traditions, which have enriched his learning over the past 15 years.
The Andean Cosmology: Angell Deer delves into the unique aspects of Andean cosmology, primarily from the coastal traditions of Peru. He clarifies how different regions in Peru, such as Chavin and the coastal areas, contribute diverse shamanic practices characterized by oral traditions, nature-based prayers, and altars. Unlike the mountain-based Queros traditions, many are familiar with, the coastal practices offer a distinct perspective on sacred rituals and spiritual journeys.
Plant Medicine Practices: The discussion extends to using plant medicines such as Huachuma. Angell clarifies that, in traditional Andean teachings, plant medicines are not frequently used. Instead, they are reserved for specific ceremonies to ensure proper integration of their powerful effects, similar to infrequent vision quests. He emphasizes the grounded nature of these practices, which involve deep, land-oriented engagements like farming and community-based rituals over routine plant medicine use.
Western Influence and Cultural Integrity: A critical topic addressed is the impact of Western influence on Peruvian practices. Angell shares insights on how Western stimuli, like information overload and commercialization, lead to an overemphasis on dramatic experiences with plant medicines like ayahuasca and Huachuma. He advocates for more subtle yet profound interactions with nature and traditional practices often overshadowed by the more "loud" spiritual experiences favored by visiting Westerners.
Embodied Practices: To truly embrace and embody shamanic teachings, Angel Deer conveys the importance of patience and deep connection with the natural world. He reminisces about his teacher's foundational lesson about planting and nurturing corn, which symbolizes a sacred bond with nature and the slow, contemplative journey of spiritual learning. This hands-on engagement fosters a genuine understanding and transformation, far from the quick fixes sometimes sought in Western spiritual practices.
Integration and Application: For those seeking to learn at The Sanctuary, the challenge of integrating profound teachings within the constraints of modern Western life is recognized. Angel discusses the educational approach of providing foundational shamanic wisdom and practical applications, helping individuals plant and nurture "seeds" of learning that will grow in their everyday lives. This method encourages continuous personal growth and connection, regardless of professional or urban lifestyle.
Through this enriching dialogue, the podcast "Challenging New Age Myths: Authentic Shamanism" seeks to illuminate the rich, nuanced, and often misunderstood world of shamanic wisdom. It underlines the timeless relevance of ancient practices and the significance of cultivating a deeper, more authentic connection with ourselves and the natural world around us.
In this episode of "The Wisdom Path with the Jaguar & The Deer," titled "Grounding & Belonging," Angell Deer and Marita One Who Catches Lightning explore the profound concept of grounding and its significance in our lives.
They delve deeply into what grounding means and discuss personal practices, philosophies, and ways of being grounded.
Key Topics Covered:
- Connection to the Land: Angell shares how being a land caretaker ties him back to the earth, making grounding synonymous with presence and being in the moment.
- Cultural and Political Dimensions: They discuss how the fast-paced, western, capitalistic world tends to be ungrounded, and why grounding can be seen as a revolutionary and political act.
- Emotional Awareness: Grounding is also about facing and processing our emotions, which often surface when we slow down and turn inward.
- Wisdom from Nature: Marita brings in the imagery of birds and how they ground even when they are flying, suggesting that grounding is about knowing who you are in your core being.
- Lessons from Animals: They share stories of turkeys and pigeons, often overlooked as wisdom keepers, highlighting their roles in teaching us about grounding and caretaking the land.
- Historical and Cultural Stories: Discussions about the cultural implications of being "grounded" and historical narratives about animals and their symbolic meanings.
Through this rich conversation, Angell and Marita invite listeners to reframe their understanding of grounding, seeing it as an essential practice for cultivating mindfulness, presence, and deeper connections to the earth and each other.
In the video "Listening to the Moon" from "The Wisdom of the Jaguar & The Deer," Marita One Who Catches Lightning and Angell Deer delve into the profound connection humans can cultivate with the moon.
They share insights on how to sync with the lunar cycles, emphasizing that the moon's influence is not limited to its full phase but extends through its entire cycle. The discussion highlights the Apache moonwalker tradition, which sees the moon as a daily guide.
It explores the significance of the new moon in birth and regeneration, contrasting it with the peak experiences often celebrated in Western spirituality. The speakers also touch upon the interconnectedness of the moon's phases with land and life cycles and the importance of fostering a continuous and deep relationship with the moon.
They conclude by inviting viewers to discover their own moon cycles and listen to the moon's wisdom, integrating it into their daily lives.
Key points explored in the video include:
- **Holistic Moon Practices**: Emphasizing the importance of engaging with all phases of the moon, not just the full moon, to foster a continual relationship.
- **New Moon Significance**: Highlighting the role of the new moon in representing birth, beginnings, and unseen potential, advocating for a balanced approach that values all phases equally.

In this enthralling episode titled "Surrender," hosts Angell Deer and Marita One Who Catches Lightning delve deep into the dynamic concept of surrender, exploring its active essence contrary to common belief of passivity. The dialogue opens with a vibrant touch, setting the stage for a profound discussion that redefines surrender as an immensely alive state, requiring full presence and acute awareness.
Marita initiates the conversation by challenging the conventional views of surrender, depicting it not as a defeat but as a powerful engagement with life. She eloquently discusses the transition from self to interdependence, highlighting the importance of being supported by Mother Earth and moving beyond competitive or dominant Western practices. Angell complements this by describing surrender as being fully present and active, rather than passive like a “jellyfish dying on the beach.”
Both speakers weave personal insights with spiritual teachings, emphasizing that surrender involves acknowledging the need for help and embracing every aspect of oneself, both the good and the bad. They discuss the somatic and beyond-mind experiences of surrender as moments of true presence, like holding a newborn or witnessing a sunset, where the world fades away, leaving only a profound connection with the moment.
The episode also touches on the social and spiritual responsibilities of surrender. It’s depicted as a method of engaging in life actively without running away or losing one's sovereignty. Discussing scenarios from real life to metaphorical and cinematic examples, such as the movie "Don't Look Up," they illustrate how surrender can lead to beautiful moments of community and connection, even in dire circumstances.
This discussion not only unpacks the layers of meaning within the word "surrender" but also invites listeners to redefine their approach to personal challenges and life itself. By the end of the episode, surrender is shown not as giving up, but rather as a courageous acceptance of life’s flow, a stepping into mutual co-creation with the universe, and a gateway to awe-inspiring moments of clarity and connection.
In a thoughtful discussion between Angell Deer and Marita, the topic of patience—particularly as a vital skill on the spiritual path—is extensively explored. They open by acknowledging the pressure our modern culture places on speed in almost every aspect of life, from food delivery to education and transportation, highlighting how these expectations alter our perceptions of time and accomplishment.
Marita recognizes that our impatience is partly fueled by an existential anxiety tied to our mortality and a deep-seated reluctance in believing that there are forces besides ourselves influencing our lives. This insight segues into discussions about patience as a form of deep relationality and connection—not just with other people, but with the land and broader cosmic rhythms.
The conversation delves into how impatience can restrict possibilities, foster disconnect, and create unrealistic expectations that ultimately lead to dissatisfaction and a constant feeling of inadequacy. Angell illustrates this with personal experiences, such as the slow, inevitable growth of a walnut tree, which symbolizes a surrender to natural processes and timelines that cannot be expedited.
They also talk about the inherent wisdom of the body and nature, which modern society often overlooks or tries to dominate through hurried schedules, reflecting a broader societal impatience that can also manifest as violence towards the self.
The dialogue ends with a call for a more present, contemplative stance toward life. By slowing down, we permit ourselves to co-create with the universe, embracing the vast range of possibilities that patience can offer. This idea is encapsulated in the sentiment that urgent times require us to slow down, suggesting a profound cultural shift that could lead to deeper, more grounded forms of wisdom.
Join Angell Deer and Marita One Who Catches Lightning for an enlightening conversation in "Discipline, Skill for the Spiritual Practice." In this discussion, they delve into the often misunderstood concept of discipline, exploring how it's more than just a set of rules or restrictions—it's a path to aligning with your true essence.
Marita shares insights on the natural laws that govern all of life, from the cosmos down to the cycles of water and trees. She illustrates how discipline is mirrored in nature, particularly through the consistency of trees like the oak, which, without fail, grows towards the sun and nourishes the ecosystem around it. Through the metaphor of the disciplined oak tree, Marita emphasizes the importance of regular spiritual practices as a means to maintain alignment with one’s essence, regardless of the external circumstances.
They discuss the negative associations linked with discipline—confinement by societal norms, parental expectations, or academic pressures—and contrast it with the discipline needed to stay true to oneself and one’s spiritual journey. Discipline, as Angell and Marita describe, isn't about limitation but about committing to practices that enhance interdependence and connection with the world.
This dialogue invites you to reflect on how you engage with discipline in your life and encourages you to cultivate practices that support your spiritual growth and alignment. It's a call to recognize and honor the discipline inherent in life itself and find your place within it.
Whether you’re seeking guidance on your spiritual path or simply curious about integrating more discipline into your life, this video offers profound perspectives on how disciplined practices can lead to freedom and fulfillment.

In this evocative episode of "The Wisdom Path of The Jaguar & The Deer," hosts Marita One Who Catches Lightning and Angell Deer dive deep into the realms of intuition and channeling to explore the essence of spiritual communication and the discernment required in distinguishing between genuine guidance and misleading entities.
Their conversation sheds light on the nuances of human interaction with the spiritual world, balancing the wisdom of ancient traditions with contemporary practices in spirituality.
The discussion begins with a foundational question: What is intuition? Both hosts agree that intuition, often described as a gut feeling, is an essential aspect of human perception linked to the soul's wisdom beyond the limited self.
They emphasize the importance of questioning and refining one's intuitive senses through connection with the body, engagement with spirit guides, and identifying whether impulses arise from true guidance or mere reactions to external conditions.
Marita and Angell then navigate the complex topic of channeling, cautioning listeners about the responsibilities and risks involved in opening oneself as a conduit for spiritual entities. They discuss the potential for channelers to inadvertently become mediums for essences that may have unfinished business in the material world, highlighting the importance of conscious agreement and critical questioning of the spirits we engage with.
The hosts highlight the significance of grounding spiritual practices in relation to the earth and nature. They advocate for a deep, reciprocal relationship with the land to ensure a firm foundation for any spiritual work. This connection serves as a safeguard, enabling individuals to verify spiritual messages and align with authentic paths of growth and learning.
Throughout the episode, Marita and Angell emphasize the diversity of spiritual experiences and the personal nature of intuition and channeling. They remind their audience of the crucial role of teachers, elders, and lineage in providing guidance, support, and accountability on the spiritual journey.
Concluding on a note of profound wisdom, the speakers encourage listeners to question everything, cultivate deep connections with the earth, and seek guidance from trusted mentors. This episode of "The Wisdom Path of The Jaguar & The Deer" illuminates the intricacies of intuition and channeling and offers valuable insights for those navigating the rich, sometimes daunting, landscape of spiritual exploration.

The Conundrum of Ease: Seeking Genuine Easement in a Fast-Paced World
**Description:**
Welcome to a thought-provoking discussion that delves deep into the complexities of seeking ease in our fast-paced, modern lives. Join us as Angell and Marita explore the intricate dance of finding true ease, not as the world promises, but as a journey into the heart of life itself, marked by responsibility, presence, and engagement with the world in its entirety.
In a world that equates ease with success, happiness, and moral goodness, our dynamic duo challenges the notion with a refreshing take. They unravel the layers behind the modern quest for ease, revealing how it often leads us away from genuine engagement with life. From agriculture to spirituality, this conversation traverses through topics that reveal the stark difference between superficial ease and the rich, often challenging path of living in deep connection with self, community, and the natural world.
Angell shares insights from the lessons learned in the simplicity of working with the land, dealing with livestock, and embracing the natural cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. Through storytelling and reflection, they invite us to reconsider what it means to seek ease, urging us towards a life of easement—a life that acknowledges and embraces the inevitable interactions and responsibilities we have to the land, to each other, and to our inner selves.
Marita brings to the conversation her experiences of living close to the land, tending to the needs of non-native species, and the profound realization that true ease comes not from escaping the responsibilities of life but from finding one's place within its complex web.
This rich discussion will challenge you, inspire you, and maybe even alter your perception of what it means to live a good life. It's about slowing down, embracing the unseen, and finding contentment not in ease but in the ‘easement’ of being fully present to the complex beauty of the world.

https://www.thesanctuaryheal.com/event-info/from-earth-to-stars-a-5-week-journey-through-ancient-cosmologies-with-the-andean-mayan-medicine-wheels
Marita One Who Catches Lightning & Angell Deer are coming together for a deep dive into the medicine wheels of Ancient Cosmologies to offer you a 5-week class to help you transform your vision of the world and of yourself.
We will explore deep concepts inherent to those cosmologies by sharing what we learned from our elders and our past 20 years of work in close relationship with those teachings.
This class is for those seeking a deeper understanding of the Human and the Divine. For those who want to anchor and root their spiritual life into authentic and practical tools. How to bridge spiritual teachings with practical Earth incarnation. How to understand sacred relationship, interconnectedness, and reciprocity from the perspective of the ancient teachings.
You will be able to bring forth what is unresolved, stuck, confused, creating pain and a lack of flow in your life.
Through 4 gatherings of 2-hour, you will gather some pieces of this mystical puzzle and will gain important knowledge, wisdom, and tools for your life. Those teachings will be live and you will have access to the recordings too so you can keep returning to them.
This is not a simple task to share those elements of cosmology and the process of transformation will happen not only during our time together but in the weeks, months, and years following this time together.
We will explore the elementals (fire, water, air, earth), the 7 directions, the medicine wheels, the different bodies (physical, emotional, mental & spiritual), what it means to be in sacred reciprocity, how to work with prayers & manifestation, and much more.
Schedule of the LIVE classes:
Sunday, July 2nd - 2PM to 4PM EST
Sunday, July 16th - 2PM to 4PM EST
Sunday, July 30th - 2PM to 4PM EST
Sunday, August 6th - 2PM to 4PM EST
All classes are recorded and you have access to the recording (with any tickets purchased)
In this interview with Tyler Richards & Angell Deer we explore how our broken relationship with the wild world, and specifically the bees, had us losing the magical teachings and healing coming from the hive. As we dive deeper into the world of bees, we are sharing with you some mystical aspects of bee colonies that we can only discover through a long deepening of our relationship with them. Bee Shamanism is probably as ancient as humans coming into contact with those unique insects. Enjoy the return to the bees, so you can experience the return to yourself.
Does any of this sound familiar?
If you fear you have to settle and sacrifice for how this life is supposed to be or if you have a strong desire to lead a movement of change to create a world you want to live in and leave for your children and future generations that they can thrive in, you will be relieved to know you really can fulfill your purpose, live authentically, lead a life that has meaning and depth without sacrificing what is most important to you…
…. And acknowledging that you have a voice that needs to be heard, seen, and felt, is the first step!
Join world-renowned teacher of shamanism Sandra Ingerman and Angell Deer for a deep discussion on the immense relevance of Shamanism in the 21st century.
During this time together we discussed with Sandra the importance of shamanism to answer our world's most important questions, and the relevance of shamanism in today’s era of climate change, social injustice, political divide, and immense mental health crisis.
Shamanism is the most ancient form of spirituality and is sometimes referred to as the most ancient “technology”. We will explore how in today’s world the importance of shamanism is crucial in helping us go through this time “of the great turning”.
Sandra Ingerman, MA, a world-renowned teacher of shamanism, is recognized for bridging ancient cross-cultural healing methods with modern culture. She’s taught for 40 years, including workshops worldwide on shamanic journeying, healing, and reversing environmental pollution using spiritual methods. Sandra is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a professional mental health counselor, and a board-certified expert on traumatic stress.
Watkins Body Mind Spirit magazine honored her by including her in their 100 Most Spiritually Influential People of 2020. She was also chosen as one of the Top 10 Spiritual Leaders of 2013 by Spirituality and Health magazine and was awarded the 2007 Peace Award from the Global Foundation for Integrative Medicine.
She’s authored 12 books, including Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self... Medicine for the Earth... Walking in Light... and The Book of Ceremony: Shamanic Wisdom for Invoking the Sacred in Everyday Life. Sandra and Hank Wesselman's book, Awakening to the Spirit World: The Shamanic Path of Direct Revelation, won both the 2011 COVR (Coalition of Visionary Resources) Visionary Award and the 2011 IPPY (Independent Publisher Book Award).
Since the 1980s, thousands of people have healed from past and present traumas through Soul Retrieval, the classic cross-cultural shamanic healing method Sandra teaches.
Sandra is recognized for bridging ancient cross-cultural healing methods into our modern culture addressing the needs of our times.
Sandra is known for gathering the global spiritual community together to perform powerful transformative ceremonies as well as inspiring us to stand strong in unity so we do our own spiritual and social activism work while keeping a vision of hope and being a light in the world.
She is passionate about helping people to reconnect with nature.
Michael Kokal interviewed me on "The End of the Road podcast" and we discussed some fascinating subjects related to animism, shamanism, and the spiritual path.
Animism is the belief in the existence of individual spirits that inhabit natural objects and phenomena. It is a shared belief and understanding of all native people across the globe since the beginning of humanity.
Here are some of the subjects we discuss in this episode:
- Understanding the importance of "clear reflection" to receive wisdom
- The false idea of separation and not belonging
- How to connect to the animate world
- The path of service embedded into Nature
- The original instructions weaved into the natural world
- The vibrations and prayers of the elementals
- Hearing the settled voices
- Practicing prayers to relate
- Calling the invisible
And more...

Discover this interview of Angell Deer done by Marita, One Who Catches Lightning (The Path of IX). Marita's lineage is Zapotec and her metaphysical and spiritual training includes work in the Lakota, Mayan, Aztec, and Hopi traditions.
We invite you to join us today for this inspiring conversation and enter with curiosity as we all learn from Angell’s perspective on how we are a reflection of dark matter and why we need to acknowledge the depth of the sickness within the system before we can begin to heal together. We’re exploring: - Angell’s creation story & how he is shaped by his ancestry and land - Why the fear of abandonment & desire for connection causes us to remain in systems that don't serve us - The differences between learning within shamanism v. conventional ways - How land can teach both practicality & poetry - Why some organic & eco-friendly products are still highly problematic for humanity - How you can get involved with Angell at The Sanctuary - And moreMother nature is cyclical, so we are. All that is born, lives, and dies…
It is not something we can control.
Embracing this knowledge helps to understand life’s fragility, the importance of being present, the wisdom of acceptance and letting go.
In this tender talk, an interview with Gabriela Dias, Tantric Birth & Death Doula, I explore how to navigate life challenges while finding meaning along the way.
This is a replay of my interview during the Awakening Summit: Sacred Sacraments and Expanded States of Consciousness as a Path to Enlightenment and Unity. I talk about transformation, consciousness, and the opportunity we have to find purpose and meaning in life.
The world is changing rapidly. Between Climate change, ecosystems collapse, and the broken political, economic, and social systems, our nervous systems are put under extreme pressure. Yet, your nervous system holds the key to your health and to being able to engage fully in your life.
Herbal medicine and simple rituals aid enormously in moving through these times of evolutionary transformation with more emotional ease, greater mental clarity, and physical and spiritual peace.
Nourishing herbs like oatstraw (Avena sativa) and nettles (Urtica spp.) help us find our strength. Nervines can help with pain relief, deep sleep, and clear skin. We’ll hone in on the gifts of sedating skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), uplifting St. John’s/Joan’s wort (Hypericum perforatum.
Robin Rose Bennett is a storyteller, writer, and herbalist. She has been offering classes in WiseWoman Healing Ways: Herbal Medicine and EarthSpirit Teachings since 1986 - at herb conferences, festivals, clinics, medical and nursing schools, and most joyously, outside with the plants.

As an elder, dreamer, and visionary, Grandmother Threecrow responds to my questions and shares insight and wisdom regarding this time of prophecy we are living in.
Here are some other questions we explored in this exceptional live online connection with Grandmother Threecrow:
- Is prophecy written in stone?
- Are we helpless? Is it hopeless?
- What is this timeline we are all living in and did we sign up for this? And if yes, why would we do that?
- Do you believe that we are powerful co-creators and that we can create our own reality?
- Do you know about the prophecy of the star children?
- Do you know about the prophecy of the rainbow warriors?
- Do you know about the power of word, thought and emotions?
- Is humanity in a time of great change and transition?
- What do you know about frequency, energy and how to use those powers?
We explored these questions and more with a deep conversation with an extraordinary elder, Grandmother Threecrow.
Grandmother Barbara Threecrow carries the legacy of her ancestors: and a linage of experiencers contactees, communicators visionaries and seers – derives from her heritage; Celt, Nanticoke Lanape/Delaware and adopted Lakota – She is a child born with a Caul, a child of the stars, healer, seer and teacher of earth ways; the way to live in harmony according to tribal consciousness and Creator’s law of one.
Grandmother is the caretaker of sacred stones – sacred bundle keeper, leader of traditional ceremony and caretaker of the Can’nupa Wakan Sacred Pipe.
Prophecy was given her over thirty years ago, that women were to return to the sacred circle to retrieve their original knowledge – to reset the code of human's fundamental nature: the blueprint of the superior intelligence and how to retrieve the ancient wisdom within our DNA – Grandmother Threecrow shares the truth of our origins, about the Star Children of today and how to see behind the curtain of this Wizards world; the matrix that generations before us were born into.
Grandmother says; We are inter-dimensional beings – we are more powerful than ever imagined –she speaks of the original agreements of the soul/spirit and our journey upon the medicine wheel of life – our purpose, place, and point of focus in regards to prophecy. She guides us on how to free ourselves from the fourth world of chaos and transition into the fifth world thousand years of peace – discloses the prophecies realized and prophecies unfolding and how and why humanity is transitioning as is the mother earth; the great ship in this cosmic realm.
We are not alone - the ancestors, the E.T's and the elementals whose presence existed from the beginning are our teachers our guides.
Grandmother speaks to our achieving of our fullest potential; higher consciousness - inner/standing, psychic extra/sensory clair-audio clair-sentient and the gifts received upon birth. She shares the importance of our knowing that our return is to become that which we were meant to be in this present and future time/line.
She will answer the often-asked question: why is this timeline unique and why am I here? Grandmother speaks of the mysteries the truth of the unknown the un-thinkable the unexplained - her wisdom covers a wide range of circumstances, phenomenon and the unexplained is explained from spiritual guidance; the guidance from the Grandmothers of the spirit realm who have been with her from the beginning and before.
Grandmother Threecrow share with us the prophecies unfolding, the law of one, this unique timeline regarding the Sacred Feminine the Sacred Masculine, living in the time of prophecy and our being asked to participate during these times of change and challenge. She brings to us the wisdom of those who dwell in the realm of spirit her guides and teachers known as the Grandmothers.

A powerful live talk with Brandon Maka’awa’awa, the Vice President of the independent Nation of Hawaii.
Brandon came to visit our land for a few days and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to meet him and experience his wisdom.
In this live discussion, we explore the Indigenous Nation Sovereignty of Hawai and the Hawaiian people by exploring the consequences of colonialism on the culture and ecology of the island. In this powerful discussion with Brandon Maka’awa’awa we aim to better understand the complexities and opportunities of sovereignty restoration and the unique project of Pu’uhonua O Waimanalo.
What can we learn from this particular project for the general goal of restoring Native sovereignty, how to navigate the complexity of the capitalistic and political systems, and how this ecological, social, and political project can be a frame for the general modeling of different ways to grow together in the midst of climate collapse and the restoration of social & economical justice.
Brandon Maka’awa’awa is the Vice President of the independent Nation of Hawaii. He assists President Dennis Bumpy Kanahele in the day-to-day operations of Pu’uhonua O Waimanalo, the Nation’s sovereign land base in which they are restoring the ancient and modern technology-enabled Ahupua’a ecosystem. Brandon also leads the Nation of Hawaii’s delegation to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, where he has given many interventions on Hawaiian National Sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, reconciliation, indigenous economic development, and innovation.
Brandon is also President of Na Po’e Kokua, a non-profit organization that advocates for the development of more affordable housing options for Hawaiians. Brandon advocates on behalf of the Nation of Hawai’i at all levels of government on different issues impacting Hawaiians and their rights.,
In this episode, I spoke with my friend Angell Deer. Angell and I met last year when he hosted myself and my colleague, Merav Artzi, where we ran plant-medicine retreats at his wonderful property, The Sanctuary. So I enjoyed being able to sit down with Angell and learn more about his story, what brought him into this work, and what he has to share. He’s had a varied life and has an interesting perspective drawing from his own life experience and having worked in many traditions. I think you’ll get a lot out of Angell’s sharing and his wisdom. “After a career that scaled the heights of corporate success as a CEO of global companies, I reached a turning point in my life – material success and trappings had not necessarily made me really happy or fulfilled. I had a big degree, a big job, and success that most people aspire for, but I was not happy. I decided to completely change my life and embarked on a journey of self-exploration and meditation that took me from working with Mother Teresa’s mission in India, to the jungles of Peru in search of finding meaning in life and fulfillment beyond the material demands of society today. Through seeking to transform my own life to live with a higher purpose, I made a life-changing commitment to helping others in their search for peace, harmony, and happiness.
During the last 10 years and my transformative journeys across Asia & South America, I had rare opportunities to study and meditate with master healers and teachers of all faiths. I am trained in Shamanism, Reiki & Medical Reiki, Sufi Healing, Sound Healing, Meditation, Herbalism, and Breathwork.
The big transformation happened many years ago when I started to dive into the plant world with my teacher in Peru & shamanic work with Native American & Norse traditions. I started to work with specific energies and Spirits who channel to me the healing I am using today. This method mix channeling, somatic energy work, breathwork, runes, and connection to Divine masters (Archangel Michael and Christ most frequently) through prayers. It is a very powerful energy healing that can give profound results on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual trauma. This journey of transformation is never-ending, for me too.
In 2015, I opened The Sanctuary Healing Center on my property in the Catskills where I do in-depth work with my clients, host workshops, and cultivates the land for organic vegetable farming, medicinal plants, and honey bees.”

Chee Ramon knows as much, possibly more, about Navajo medicine than any man alive and now, for the first time, he has agreed to bring his knowledge to a wider audience outside his Navajo homeland of Arizona and New Mexico. Following his visit, we recorded this video with his main / oldest student (Charles) to share about the magic we witnessed.
The reason Chee Ramon agreed to share this knowledge is that the old ways are rapidly dying. Today young people have to work in the white man's world and do not have the time or inclination to undergo the lengthy and arduous training a medicine man's apprentice requires. Fewer and fewer young people speak the Navajo language, and so the complicated concepts of Navajo medicine--and some are extremely complicated--cannot be passed on as there are no English words of equivalent meaning.
Chee's visit was intended to impart at least some traditional knowledge to the wider world, where it may still do some good, while there is still time to do so.

My interview with Elder Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq, shaman, traditional healer, storyteller, and carrier of the Qilaut (winddrum), whose family belongs to the traditional healers of the Far North from Kalaallit Nunaat, Greenland.
His name means ‘The Man Who Looks Like His Uncle’. Since he was a child he was trained by his family- especially by his Grandmother Aanakasaa – for becoming a shaman.
The spiritual task given by his mother is: “Melting the Ice in the Heart of Man”.
Angaangaq bridges the boundaries of cultures and faiths in people young and old. His work has taken him to over 70 countries around the world. He conducts circles, seminars, and Aalaartiviit – traditional sweat lodges. His teachings are deeply rooted in the wisdom of the oral healing traditions of his people, which enabled people over thousands of years to survive in one of the harshest places on Earth.
Angaangaq is a Keynote-Speaker at international conferences about climate change, environment, spiritual and indigenous issues. Since a ceremony in Greenland in 2009 where the “sacred fire” has been brought back to Greenland, he is carrying the title “Angakkorsuaq” – “Great Shaman”.
“The greatest distance in the existence of Man is not from here to there nor from there to here. Nay, the greatest distance in the existence of Man is from his mind to his heart. Unless he conquers that distance he can never learn to soar like an eagle and realize his own immensity within.” Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq

I invite you to come back into being, to sit with me as we embark on the journey of great remembering. Remembering that we are not only the Little Brothers and Sisters to all that surrounds us, but also that we are them and they are us. They - we - have been waiting and watching for the moment to listen. The Animals have so much to share with us, not only wisdom but truth about ourselves. Even the most unexpected creatures, mundane and fantastic, offer up alliance if we are willing to sit and listen.
In this LIVE talk we discuss:
•What is the difference between an Ancestral Ally, Lifetime Ally, and Situational Ally?
•How can I identify my Allies?
•How can I work with my Allies?
•How can I honor my Allies?
About Casey Certain
Casey Certain has felt deeply connected to the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina since childhood and began welcoming the friendship and messages from the Animals since that time. Honing her skills through observation and education, she also works to collect and retell the Animals’ cultural stories as they see fit. Her mission has been to aid in the universal process of learning, growing, and healing as we each acknowledge not only our own personal Divine existence but the Divine existence and connection of each and every other being. After serving youth who were from at-risk situations for seven years, Casey began to embrace her identity and role of not only teacher but healer in 2020.
Working to explore, record, and share what the Animals, Plants, and Land wish to share and teach, she now offers private sessions and retreats as an Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner at her homestead in Walhalla, South Carolina, with her husband David. She is trained in hypnotherapy, meditation, breathwork, yoga, aromatherapy, auriculotherapy, among other modalities.
Her great joy, however, is introducing individuals to the Animal Allies who have been working, and who wish to continue working, with them in order to bring balance to their healing journey. Her own journey is assisted most frequently by Rabbit, Blue Jay, Fox, Crow, and Black Snake.
You can learn more about her homestead and healing arts practice at reidhomestead.com and find some of her recorded Animal Meditations on her Patreon Inner Certainty Healing Arts.
Join us for an exceptional discussion on Myth, Mycelium, and Rewilding Masculinities with Sophie Strand.
Some of the themes we explored:
How has patriarchy colonized the ideas of the masculine?
What does it mean to use mycelium to think through myths?
How can we root ancient stories in ecology?
What makes ancient myths potent in the age of ecosystem collapse?
How does storytelling allow us to transcend our human narratives?
What is the role of modern science in reinterpreting ancient myths?
How can we complicate our ideas of progress and individuality via folklore and biology?
Are there any modern examples of these ancient mythic figures?
How has the history of monotheism obscured the biodiversity of masculine spiritualities and archetypes? In particular, the figures of Dionysus, Orpheus, Tolkien, Rabbi Yeshua, Tristan, Merlin the Wizard, Parzifal, and King David were focus points of Sophie's recent books.
In this live discussion with Sophie, you will have the opportunity to learn some beautiful wisdom teachings from her and to ask questions.

Dear community, As you are well aware now, we have entered a global pandemic with the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19). This pandemic does not know any borders and does not discriminate who can or will be contaminated. Beyond countries, colors, religions, wealth, all of us are called to take all the necessary steps to protect ourselves, our communities, our families and the most vulnerable ones with fragile or challenged immunity. Very rarely on Earth are we facing such threats aside from climate change and ecological collapse that despite being less relayed as an emergency on the media and news channel, are probably an even biggest threat to humanity as we know it. In any times of challenges, we are called as spiritual beings, and human beings, to stay informed and face the world with a deeper sense of compassion, care, and love, embodied into concrete actions. Yet another pandemic is very obviously rampant. Fear. Anxiety. Anger. Disconnection. And this one we also have the power to change it! So on this video below that I recorded for you, I wanted to share about all this: What can we do? How to deal with fear, stress & anxiety? How to take care of ourselves and our communities? How to stay connected with each other with deeper care and compassion? And how to open our hearts to the challenges we are facing... We are ALL called into stepping deeply into our own healer!

The 4 directions (East, West, North & South), the 4 elements (Fire, Water, Air & Earth) are the foundations for shamanic practices and prayers. In this episode, I share an introduction to this powerful ancient knowledge to offer you a way to connect with this ancient wisdom in service of your healing and the healing of humanity. I also discuss the 4 traditional prayers associated with this practice.
"The Mystical Positivist," is dedicated to the application of reason in the pursuit of spiritual practice and development. I look to this format to be challenging and a bit controversial in that the New Age community tends to have an overly romantic picture of the gritty pursuit of spiritual transformation.
