Working together, Lincoln, Billy, Magda, and Ariella learned that Teddy’s lair is beneath a Big Nasty’s restaurant in Cordis, close to the supernatural pawnshop known as “the Clearinghaus,” and also close to the Bastion’s fortress headquarters.

The Bastion has a magical interference zone around it, a zone that includes the Clearinghaus and Big Nasty’s. This zone, affected by a persistent spell known as “mesh-buzz,” hides the detection of all meshwork within it. It also makes magic unpredictable — sometimes magic works fine, sometimes it produces unexpected results, and sometimes it doesn’t work at all.

Lincoln and Billy left for the Clearinghaus, where they planned to meet with rixators Sophia Franks and Lukas Franks, Lincoln’s sister and brother, respectively, and with Kellius Droman and his assistant Morgan Stone.

Thanks to a clue that Delilah Droman planted in Gabriella Radu’s mind, Lincoln and Billy paid a visit to Finicus Sleidan, the maker of the dreamgaunts Teddy Two-Fingers uses to harvest nightmares from the children he’d kidnapped.

Sleidan didn’t know where Teddy was but did reveal the name of the company buying the gaunts – Wholesome Stuff, a firm that supplies restaurants like McDonald’s and Burger King. If Ariella, Lincoln, Billy, and Magda can find where Wholesome Stuff ships to, they have a chance at tracking down Teddy, as it’s known Teddy feeds his forty-plus captives fast-food-style burgers and fries.

After following the Wholesome Stuff trail to a dead end, Lincoln and Ariella went to work calling their lawyer contacts, hoping to find someone who could uncover Wholesome Stuff’s business connections via permits, tax returns, and other legal mechanisms.

Teddy Two-Fingers kidnapped Delilah Droman from her father’s mansion in Barron Heights. Teddy is holding her captive at his “nightmare factory,” located deep underground in parts unknown, where he and Hiamana are training her to be the factory’s foreman.

Delilah is trying to find a way to escape or to get a message to Lincoln, as she believes Lincoln will rescue her.

Lincoln was at Stoolie’s Bar & Grill, looking for Lupo and Booty Shooty, accomplices of the recently deceased Thoko Chikondi. Lincoln hopes they know where Teddy’s hideout is. Teddy, somehow, called Lincoln at the bar and poured salt in Lincoln’s wounds, driving Lincoln to start drinking the free shots offered by Maylene, a bartender there.

Lincoln did not tell Magda, Ariella, or Billy where he was going, and he shut off his connection with Magda’s meshwork ear cuff. He’s been gone for hours, and they have no idea where he is.

Teddy is training Delilah to work in his nightmare factory. She is learning her duties as “the foreman” of the operation.

Lincoln wants to find Delilah, but he has no leads. On the advice of his father, Jacoby Franks, Lincoln set out to “follow the pain.” Lincoln told Billy, Magda, and Ariella that he’s doing this alone, and ignored their efforts to help.

When Delilah was taken from Droman’s mansion, Teddy put a bullet in Billy’s arm. Morgan Stone worked on the wound first, then, at the Old Stone Church, Magda tended to it, letting a wriggling carofactor slide in to repair the damage.

Kellius Droman and Morgan Stone set off to deal with Teddy Two-Fingers at an undisclosed location, but Teddy, Haimana, and Agneetha attacked Kellius Droman’s Barron Heights mansion with magic and a flame-throwing aerial drone that set Droman’s living guardian trees and much of the mansion ablaze. Lincoln and Billy, who were there guarding Delilah Droman, fought against Agneetha and Haimana’s murderous giant flying centipedes. 

Lincoln had downed a bottle of whiskey, which slowed his reaction time, and let a drone get the drop on him. The drone fired a jet of flame that should have set Lincoln ablaze, but Billy somehow bent the flame toward himself and absorbed it, bringing it into his own body and making him so hot his clothes burned away. Billy was about to use this new power against Agneetha when a shot rang out — a bullet hit his shoulder, dropping him.

Keg-sized killer beetles ripped the floor out from under Delilah. Lincoln dove after her but lost her in the smoke. She was taken by Agneetha, Teddy, and Haimana, who shot across Barron Heights and vanished into the night. 

Lincoln, unable to chase them, rushed to help Billy.

Kellius Droman found out where Teddy Two-Fingers had been hiding. Lincoln demanded to go with Droman to whoop some ass, but Droman refused to take Lincoln with him. Instead, he ordered Lincoln to go to his mansion to protect his daughter, Delilah. 

Already distraught after seeing his son, Sam, on The Shelf, Lincoln grew despondent. As Droman magicked away to battle Teddy, Lincoln gave up. He downed a bottle of bourbon and headed for the mansion.

Billy, feeling terrible for his friend, tagged along to give Lincoln moral support.

Delilah’s father, Kellius Droman, hired Lincoln as Delilah’s bodyguard. When Kellius hunts Teddy Two-Fingers or trains Billy, Lincoln must stay at the Droman Mansion and protect young Delilah. Surprisingly, Lincoln and Delilah have hit it off. She trusts he can keep her safe, while he benefits from her optimism and youthful energy that he can’t experience from his own child, Sam, who remains trapped on The Shelf — where Teddy put him.

Serial kidnapper Teddy Two-Fingers tried to abduct thirteen-year-old Delilah Droman from the mansion where she lives with her father, the billionaire wizard Kellius Droman. Lincoln foiled that attempt, driving off Teddy and two members of his gang: Hiamana, a mage, and Sophie, a brawler with long, dangerous claws. In the battle, Lincoln cut off Sophie’s left arm below the elbow.

Afterward, Kellius Droman agreed to train Billy in the ways of magic in exchange for Lincoln serving as Delilah’s bodyguard when Kellius was away from home.

Now, Billy is in Cordis at Kellius’s “Nonagon,” ready for his first training session, while Lincoln returns to the Droman Mansion for his first shift protecting Delilah.

Lincoln found Thoko Chikondi, a thief who sold a stolen magic carpet to Teddy Two-Fingers, the man who kidnapped Lincoln’s son, Sam, and sent him to the purgatory known as The Shelf. Lincoln had a little chat with Thoko and learned that Thoko had placed a meshwork tracker on the carpet in hopes of stealing it a second time.

Ariella asked Kellius Droman, a powerful, dangerous, and extremely dangerous mage, to train Billy to use his innate magical power in exchange for Lincoln guarding Kellius’s teenage daughter, Delilah. Kellius turned down the offer, leaving Billy’s training duties to Magda and Ariella.

Billy needs to learn how to use his powers. Ariella asked Kellius Droman to train him in exchange for Lincoln acting as a bodyguard for Kellius’s teenage daughter, Delilah. Kellius’s response? He needs a protector, not a killer. Bill will have to find training elsewhere.

Droman did, however, improve the magical security of the Old Stone Church, for which he charged a high price — a price Ariella and Magda were unable to pay.

Ariella asked Lincoln to sell her golem charm for five hundred gold, an amount that would have paid for Droman’s work and then some. Lincoln did not get the amount Ariella asked for, but he did score a nice pawnshop panini maker.

Billy, Magda, Ariella, and Dragon are at the Old Stone Church, under assault from Butch and the Rolling outlaws. Billy and Butch fought one-on-one. Billy broke Butch’s knee, but his celebration was short-lived — Money Monday beat Billy down, leaving him a limp mess atop the now fifteen-foot-long Dragon, who has been bound up in a ball by a meshwork net provided to Butch by Boss Hawg.

Magda did some damage to B’Lockay and to Money Monday, but she collapsed in fear brought on by memories of her fight with Vestinian and the Umataken. Ariella used her limited magic to drag Magda into the nave and shut the doors tight, leaving men to try and shoulder their way through.

Across town, the club kids and Dante’s Miami thugs are battling it out at Callista’s club. Callista hurt Oleus Oakbeard, but she was knocked silly by Boss Hawg. She’s down, with only Gary Satyr to protect her against Dante’s forces, but Lincoln and Bobby are about to enter the fray.

Butch and the Rolling Outlaws followed Billy to the Old Stone Church and used a spell given to him by Boss Hawg to bind Dragon in a golden meshwork net. Magda and Ariella tried to fight Butch and his men, but Magda’s flashback from her fight with Vestinian left her helpless in the fetal position. Ariella rescued Magda. The two women are likely somewhere in the church, being hunted by Butch’s men.        

Butch then told Billy it was time for Billy to pay for Big Hack’s death.

Dante and his bounty hunters are coming for Callista. Outside her building, Lincoln and Mercutio attacked the Flechette Sisters and their giant panthers. Lincoln landed a near-killing shot on Betty Flechette, then fled for the secret passage that led into the building where he and Mercutio could connect with Callista, her Club Kid troops, and her bodyguard Bobby the Minotaur. Mercutio used the passage's door to cut a pursuing panther in half, but Veronica Flechette blew up that door, filling the passage with smoke and broken brick.

Butch followed Billy back to the Old Stone Church and was able to lead his Rolling Outlaw gang members into the entryway. Dragon the dog turned into Dragon the dragon, but Butch used a meshwork ring given to him by Boss Hawg to bind the protector. Magda and Ariella came out of the nave to face off against Butch and his men. Ariella used her threadwork necklace to make the Outlaws’ guns heat up to the point where the men could not hold them.

Meanwhile, Mercutio led Lincoln through the tunnels beneath Callista’s building. The unlikely duo is about to take on the Flechette sisters and their big cats in a skirmish that could determine the course of the battle.

Callista ordered Lincoln to protect her from Dante’s assassins, a murderer’s row that includes Boss Hawg, the Flechette Sisters, and the druid-sorcerer Oleus Oakbeard. Shitbird signaled to Lincoln that Dante’s troops had been spotted. Callista sent Lincoln and her boy-toy Mercutio out to take out an assassin or two before the real battle begins. 

Meanwhile, Billy tried to go to his apartment to warn his Gramma to leave town, but he saw Butch’s men around the place — Billy bailed and pedaled for the Old Stone Church.

Dante and Oleus were on the roof of Callista’s old four-story factory building, using a cockeye to search for Lincoln. If they can find him, they can send the others to take him out.

Billy is on the run from a handful of bounty hunters out to collect his head. Lincoln was one of those bounty hunters but changed his mind and helped Billy run from the people who want him dead. They fled to Corids, a mysterious city in the supernatural realm known as “The Patchwork. There, Lincoln sought shelter from… well… from Bingles and his fellow Sex Gnomes.

And Bingles seems to think that Lincoln owes him money…

Meanwhile, Butch and Money Monday of the Rolling Outlaws gang want to work with Boss Hawg to collect the bounty on Billy, and they want to find out what happened to their friend Big Hack. When Boss Hawg drove his big-ass white pickup after Billy, Butch lost sight of him.

Lincoln and Billy are on the run from murderous bounty hunters who want to collect Billy’s head. A wild chase through the city led to the huge, old train station, where Lincoln hopes to escape their pursuers — by heading for the train station men’s room.

Billy has no idea what this entails, but he knows if he doesn’t go with Lincoln, he’s toast. On the run from the sword-wielding, spike-throwing Flechette sisters, the roaring truck of Boss Hawg, and revenge-minded mage Oleus Oakbearded, Billy will have to take his chances that Lincoln’s intentions are good.

Lincoln’s shootout with Pragman bathed the Nurp Perp’s alley in blood. Lincoln wanted to kill Billy and collect the 50-k bounty on Billy’s head but had a change of heart just as the Flechette Sisters were coming down the alley to cash in. The sisters were in hot pursuit, but Shitbird’s ariel bombardment bought Lincoln and Billy a bit of time.

With the Flechettes in hot pursuit, Boss Hawg closing in, and Oleus Oakbeard lurking somewhere nearby, Lincoln tries to get Billy to safety.

Pragman, a bounty hunter wielding a pair of old-school Western six-shooters using a lizard-like “hound” to track his targets, cornered Billy in the Nurp Perp’s alley. Pragman was about to shoot Billy down, but the Man in Gray used his crossbow to shoot one of the guns out of Pragman’s hand. The Man in Gray claimed the Billy bounty for himself and told Pragman to either walk away or drawdown.

Meanwhile, unaware of the faceoff between Pragman and Lincoln, Rolling Outlaws gang members Butch and Money Monday talked to Boss Hawg about joining forces to track down Billy. But wait, there are more bounty hunters in the neighborhood — the sword-wielding Flechette Sisters and the sorcerer Oleus Oakbeard are also hunting for Billy.

Now Billy -- and the Nurp Perp -- can do nothing but watch as Billy’s fate is decided for him.

Billy was trying to get answers from the Nurp Perp, but first, Big Hack showed up to spoil the party, then the Jerboa shadows appeared.

Several bounty hunters, including Lincoln, an unknown man with six-shooters at his sides and a giant lizard on a leash, hit the Nurp Perp’s neighborhood looking to cash in on a $50k bounty on Billy’s head, a bounty set by Dante Oganov to get revenge on Billy.

Another bounty hunter — known to Lincoln as “Boss Hawg” — also hit the neighborhood. While Lincoln sent Shitbird to hunt for Billy, Boss Hawg hit the 7-11 parking lot to talk to Butch and Money Monday, who, along with Big Hack, are members of the Rolling Outlaws gang that wants Billy to pony up five gees.
