In this episode, Kurt and Leo interview Kali Kazoo, a creative powerhouse and artist extraordinaire! Kali Kazoo has an impressive career as an animator who creates fantastically catchy music. We talk about her time as a dedicated artist in two different realms of the entertainment industry, and we hear stories about her run-ins with some remarkable people while being one of those extraordinary people herself.

On Saturday, July 27th, 2024, at 5:30 in the afternoon, Kurt climbed into my car and drove from Garden Grove, California, to the city of Corona, a distance of about 30 miles to a small bar called Rockefellas in the Temescal Valley. Leo was in town and performing with his band, Castle Pines. 

Castle Pines was an indie rock band from the Corona area and Inland Empire whose formation began in the early 2010s. The band consisted of Leandro Barrientos on Vocals and Rhythm Guitar, Niki Barrientos on Lead Guitar, Jesse Briseno on Bass, and Sterling Fairfield on Drums. The band gained local traction and built a community, releasing a collection of live recordings from shows at The Wire. They released their first album, Bless This House, in 2010 on SoundCloud. In 2014, they released an album called Summer Blood.

This episode is about Kurt's experience at that concert, and the profound effect that Castle Pines had on a tight community and its music scene in Southern California.

Not only is Bryan a master of electronic sound, but he is also a fantastic classically trained pianist whose works include numerous television credits, and recording his versions of Bach's Goldberg Variations.

Bryan shares much invaluable insight into his world and what it takes to be a composer and a performer, while still paying the bills at home.

What is Recording Fund? "Recording Fund is a non-profit, alternative funding model for independent music. We provide grants to independent artists and musicians as well as youth, school, and community music programs throughout the United States for the purpose of recording music."
