That means we’ll also talk about anything that pops into our little brains. From beer and wine to dogs to travel, and anything else that strikes our fancy in a given moment. Our attention span is nill. Our episodes are rambling. Pull up a chair, pop on some headphones or turn up the volume in your car, hit play, and stay awhile.Cheers. Hooniverse Podcast Episode 367: You Could Just Not Hooniverse Podcast 368: Gravity Bends Light Don’t Shoot the Cat – Hooniverse Podcast 369 Gratitude – Hooniverse Podcast 370
Nobody in Boston had heard from Halifax for much too long.
Something was wrong up there. And it was bad.
It was a traffic accident with a two-mile blast radius. Roads were impassable. Railways were twisted. People resorted to digging with their hands to get to trapped victims. And that night, a blizzard buried the city in two feet of snow.
And it was the event that began a yearly tradition of gratitude.
Short circuit nature and you’re gonna get a shock eventually.
Despite the mutual love and deep respect between man and beast, the fact remains:
Sometimes they bite you.
Novelty and improvement are strange bedfellows.
Most of the time you get one or the other. And improvement might just mean a bump in short term revenue or stock price bump.
A new AND better experience for you?
Those are the rare ones.
Here’s some new things we’ve seen lately. You decide what kind of an improvement they are.
Come with us as we explore this through-line in both the figurative and literal senses, touching on topics like new car sales, market trends, and the imminent demise of a storied designer’s latest attempt at branding. And who remembers the Plymouth Prowler?
When you’ve got an illuminated 7-foot-tall middle finger on a pole, it’s pretty clear.
The main issue is a denied building permit, but the giant obscene gesture? Totally allowed. The State can’t stop it.
It’s been there since 2018, and it’s probably not what Vermont legislator Ted Riehle had in mind when he pushed through the state’s billboard ban 55 years ago.
The Finger’s not a billboard, and it doesn’t advertise anything. But it is a sign. Of unintended consequences.
We're back after a short break... and Ron has been working on his cars! We also talk about Pikes Peak and I've got a new show to tell you all about as well.
Hey, we talk about actual automotive news in this one! On the list of things we cover, we've got the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, Hyundai N Vision 74 Concept, Toyota Tacoma about to be revealed, Lamborghini Sterrato, and an R34 Nissan Skyline that sold for crazy money.
Ron and I wander through a few fresh auction results from Bring-A-Trailer. We discuss Ron's potential switch-up of his automotive objects of desire. I tease a new project. Then we dive into your questions. Links from the show: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-ford-mustang-fastback-140/

We get right into it... I sold the Jag. My 1986 Jaguar XJ6 with the Chevy V8 swap was offered for sale on Cars and Bids, and the auction result was awesome. The car has now traded hands and my garage is empty for the time being. It's time to focus on the Montero and maybe finally get the Mercedes wagon up and running.
After we talk about the Jag, we move into the Instagram questions.
Our guest today is Patrick Costello. He's a television producer that's handled a lot of automotive content, including Top Gear USA. His most recent project, however, is the new show Rennervations. This is a build show on Disney+ with big ambitions and it's hosted by Jeremy Renner.
Ron and I talk about:
Ron talks about his work trip, I give quick updates on the Jag and the Montero, and then we dive into Instagram questions.
In this episode, we talk about the Audi RS E-Tron GT Project_315/2, Paul Newman's wagon on Bring-A-Trailer, and the upcoming Lamborghini Aventador replacement. After that, we chat about Ron's Lincoln plans and what's going on with my Jaguar and my Montero. Finally, we get to the latest batch of Instagram questions.
Ron and I are back after each getting a bit under the weather the last few weeks. In this episode, we talk about Hellcat theft, Z06 prices not hitting reserves, and Porsche action in California. After that, I talk about the Montero and the Jag before we answer your questions.
Project cars are never done and they're rarely easy, right? This week Jeff talks about the issues he's sorting out on the Jag before it heads over to the smog shop. And out of nowhere, the Montero alternator died in the middle of a drive. Ron is also having issues sorting out minor issues on a project Porsche he helped manage for a friend.
After that we talk briefly about the Tesla news related to the recall, then dive into your questions.
Ron tells us all about the 2nd NASCAR Clash at the Coliseum. We take a look at some recent new car news. I talk about my time with the Kia EV6 GT and the Volvo V60 Polestar. And then we answer some of your questions
I... forgot to post this one. Oops! In it, Ron and I discuss some recent car flipping failures that could be a sign that the market is normalizing. Who knows for sure though... (Not us, that's for damn sure!)
We're back after a holiday break, and we have to talk a little bit about the tragic loss that happened while we were away. RIP KB43.
After that, we chat a bit about what we did over the break and then dive into some great questions from all of you.
Ron and Jeff talk about the new Ford Lightning electric pickup truck. Then we chat about our own cars before diving into your questions from Instagram.
Ron tries to guess the sale prices from the recent RM Sotheby's Miami auction. Jeff talks about driving the GR Corolla Morizo and the GMC Hummer EV. Then the pair take on some questions from Instagram.
Ron and Jeff kick things off by talking about.. Lasik eye surgery? Yes, but then move on to the GR Corolla, their own cars, and then your questions.
Ron just got back from SEMA so we have to hear about what was cool... and not so cool, from the Las Vegas show.
Ron and Jeff talk about the Electrikhana, the 24 Hours of Lemons, and then answer viewer/listener questions
Ron and I talk about:
Follow the two gents we mentioned in this episode:
https://www.instagram.com/kevc2002/
https://www.instagram.com/jd2rs/
It was a quick trip to Nashville, which didn't actually allow for any recording, so the Solo Question Time episode happens from home. In this one, I answer the twitter and Instagram questions before letting you know about our latest t-shirt from Blipshift!
We had a technical hiccup in this episode, but we got it sorted. We started recording one night and had to finish the next, but we got through it and discovered that the Pantera takes what it wants...
In episode 346, we talk about:
Then we get to the questions.
Ron and Jeff chat about the state of the Montero, how the Jag has been torturous as of late, and tease the upcoming chats about 24 Hours of Lemons Buttonwillow and the 2022 Land Rover TReK. Then we dive into some of your questions.
Ron and Jeff talk about:
Then they get to your Twitter and Instagram questions
Today, on a solo episode; I cover:
It's been a bit, but we're back after - let's call it a summer break - Ron and Jeff are here to talk a bit about Monterey Car Week, our own cars, and then get to your questions.
I jump in with a solo episode to do a quick recap on Autopia2099 plus my drive up there and back in a Porsche Taycan GTS. After that I take a bunch of questions.
In this episode, we go with the flow... and wind up meandering through diatribes about the R8, our own cars, and eventually the Honda Civic Type R.
Did you hear automakers are considering charging monthly fees for certain features? BMW is in the news for testing this out in a handful of markets. We think it's insane.
Let's walk through some auction insanity... we're looking at a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser, a 1967 Porsche 911S Targa, a trio of BMW project cars, an LS3 Business Coupe, a 572-powered Corvette wagon, a 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S, a 1965 Chevy Impala, and a 1984 Camaro Z28. Then we move on to your questions.
Ron and Jeff sit down to talk about a few project cars or race cars; the Hoonipig, the Stanceworks Ferrari, and a 2004 Lexus LX470 one of us should've purchased. After that, we discuss road trips, Autopia2099, and the upcoming LeMons race at Buttonwillow. Finally, we get to the questions.
Friend of the show Daniel Cudmore joins host Jeff Glucker to chat about car problems for the taller gents, life as an actor, cars in general, and then the pair dive into some car questions.
Ron and Jeff are back in action and we're rolling right into some auction results from Bring-A-Trailer. We've got three gross results, and three great results. On the gross side, we have a 1968 Camaro, 1990 Honda CRX, and a 1969 Chevy K5 Blazer. The good results feature a 1999 Chevy Suburban, a 1964 Dodge Polara, and a 1989 Ford Mustang.
After digging through those, we answer your questions, talk about some recent press car action, and get an update on the Speakeasy.
Before heading out on vacation, I wanted to get an episode out - this one is a solo shortie episode, but Jeff answers a bunch of questions while also rambling about a vehicle he can't fully talk about yet; the Cadillac Escalade-V.
Ron and Jeff talk about the new Delorean Alpha5, a week spent with a Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid, and why the vintage Mustang market sucks. Then we get to your questions.
This podcast is not TUV approved... but we're still here to talk about a few things today. We want to know when a project car is ever really done? There are some details on Autopia2099 Summer 2022 and then we talk a bit about Hoonigan's This vs That YouTube series. Finally, we then dive into some of your questions.
Ron and Jeff are both considering selling one of their vehicles. This is to fund more nonsense. Which ones do they want to sell and what is the plan if they do sell? We dive into that and also talk about the new Escalade-V, the Hoonipigasus, and answer a bunch of questions.
Our friend Nick Ferrell from DC Vintage Watches is back on the podcast once again. We talk a bit about his old Trooper, modifying car clocks, and then we dive heavy into watch stuff. And we try to understand the vitriol that hard-core watch folks levied at the Omega x Swatch collaboration.
Did you know that Ron named the Honda Element? I didn't until this episode! We also talk about some Bring-A-Trailer sales, the Land Rover Defender 90 V8, Hyundai Kona N, our project cars, and then answer your questions!
Ron and I are back for episode 327, in which we are trying out some new podcast-capture tech. I check in with Ron on the status of his Sh*tbox Speakeasy and his project cars before we get to a handful of your questions!
Zack Klapman is our guest on this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast. We talk about his career moves, how he got to where he is now, and then we answer a bunch of viewer/listener questions.
Ron and I are back for the full episode this week and we kick it off by talking about the new GR Corolla. I'm all for it but Ron needs some convincing. After that there's a little chatter on the opening round of Formula Drift, Ron's project car updates, and then we take your questions!
Yep, we slacked last week... so to make up for it, we're going to have TWO episodes this week. And I'm recording a third episode for next week when I'm on vacation. Today it's just me (Jeff) and I've got some project car updates and then a story about how I'm dumb about knowing how to schedule stuff properly.
Ron and Jeff celebrate St. Patrick's day with a few stories before diving into the car talk. Jeff has just driven the Porsche 911 GTS Targa, an electric Cobra, and will soon drive the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE. Then the two hosts discuss the current states of their project cars. There are more upgrades in store for the Montero, and Ron's Tahoe has a dashcam now. Finally, Ron and Jeff take a moment to single out some folks who are doing great stuff in the industry.
Jeff was off wrenching on things for eight days while Ron was getting up close and personal with a monster truck. Also, Ron has ascended as a car person... he's getting a garage space with some friends.
There's some talk about our own cars, the new Acura Integra, and then we answer your questions.
This episode broke, but I fixed it - and in the beginning, we ramble on about non-car stuff before diving into actual car talk. We also take a bunch of questions.
We missed a week due to some technical issues, so this episode is a sort of re-do. In it, hosts Jeff and Ron muse about their day-to-day goings-on before Ron reveals that one of his project vehicles was recently broken into. It's a C10 pickup and it's an odd target considering it's in a locked yard with no headlights.
People suck... but thankfully, this podcast soldiers on at least, right?
Jeff Chu from Nextbase is on the podcast to talk all things Dashcam. We cover what's in store for the future of this segment, why you should pick one dashcam over another, and find out the craziest dashcam video that Jeff has seen.
Ron and Jeff discuss the recent insanity in auction prices at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale and Mecum's Kissimmee auction. The duo talks about the Daytona 24 Hour Race, answer some questions from Instagram, then give updates on their various project vehicles. The most important one? The Montero is back in action!
Lyn Woodward is a great person to chat with about how they made their way into the industry. It's a path unlike a lot of other folks, and it's landed here in a place with a great audience, some cool project cars, and a lot of stories to tell. This includes her off-road adventures with the Rebelle Rally, her two-door first-gen Mitsubishi Montero, and so much more.
Jarod DeAnda is the voice of Formula Drift. He's also touching a whole lot of the automotive enthusiast realm right now, and on top of that, he's a hell of a great guy and a good storyteller.
An intersection of the watch and car world? That NEVER happens! It's happening here on the podcast with guest Nick Ferrell. He's the owner of DC Vintage Watches, which sells and sources all sorts of great vintage timepieces. Most of them are priced exceptionally reasonably as well since he specializes in old Seiko timepieces.
We also talk about Nick's long-time-owned Isuzu Trooper, and a bit about how the watch and car world often intertwine. Check out Nick's store at https://www.dcvintagewatches.com/
Hooniverse Hosts Ron and Jeff consider what they enjoyed most in the automotive space in 2021. The pair reflect on the good while thinking about the future. There's also a look at some auction results, talk about a recent off-road video by Alan Ampudia on YouTube, and then a bunch of questions before a toast to the year past and the year ahead!
On this episode of the Hooniverse podcast, Jeff and Ron examine more auction results, talk about cars that don't interest them anymore, bring up their project car woes, and answer some questions.
The Montero gauge cluster is still not fixed. Regardless, we dive on to some good and bad Bring-A-Trailer listings, talk about the new Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, chat about our project cars, and then answer your questions!
Host Jeff Glucker is on the road, attending the launch of the new Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. With some downtime in his hotel room, he records this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast. Today's chatter includes talk of Autopia2099, Montero mistakes and fixes, and some questions from Twitter.
Ron Baugh and Jeff Glucker walk through a few crazy recent listings on Bring-A-Trailer. Then the two talk about Radwood and some off-road driving Jeff did with an old and two new Volkswagen vehicles. After that, it's time for your questions.
Bradley Brownell joins Hooniverse Podcast Host Jeff Glucker to talk about the new Autopia2099 electric vehicle show. We also talk about Radwood and running into each other in the middle of nowhere on California's route 395.
Michael Thomas is a man who knows exactly which oil you should be running in your machine. It doesn't matter if it's a drag racer, a diesel rig, or your daily driver, Michael knows what's up. He's been with Pennzoil for many years, and he's got many great tales to tell. Ron Baugh and Jeff Glucker kick back and let Michael share his earned wisdom and let him tell his great stories.
Ron Baugh is back from SEMA and he spills his thoughts with Jeff Glucker. We talk about Ryan Tuerck's insane Formula Supra, Tavarish's McLaren, everything that Ford Brought, and more. Then we get into Ron's crazy dash-cam adventure before diving into talking about some press car stuff and our own cars.
Jeff Glucker is on his own in this one as Ron Baugh is off in Las Vegas for SEMA. So in this episode, Jeff talks about his desire to build a sleep platform/storage area for his Mitsubishi Montero. He's not the handiest person but he thinks he can pull this one off. The goals are to have a sleep space over a storage area with room for a fridge as well. And the platform will sit in place with the second row still in place. It will have a folding section that goes up when the second row is in use and folds down when it's time for sleeping. Can he pull it off? We will have to wait and see.
Yeah, there's a bit of an echo in this one but we will sort that out before the next one. REGARDLESS, episode 305 starts off with talk about the new Chevy Corvette Z06. Then we switch to the Subaru Forester Wilderness, and the Audi RS E-Trong GT. Jeff has a few project car updates, and Ron's fleet kicks into full-working high gear.
On this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast, hosts Jeff Glucker and Ron Baugh talk about the new Toyota Tundra, examine sales on Bring-A-Trailer one good and one bad, and then dive into some WHEEL TALK!
The Hooniverse Podcast Episode 303 starts off talking about some more Bring-A-Trailer insanity... because it keeps happening. This time it's all about super money for a clean, low-mileage Buick GNX. After that, I have to debrief a bit about how our 24 Hours of LeMons weekend went down at the Buttonwillow race. Spoiler, we only got in one day of racing - but it wasn't Day 1, it was Day 2. How'd that happen? Listen in and find out!
Bring-A Trailer brings a big bag of insanity in the sale of an old Toyota Land Cruiser. Do you agree with the sale price on this one? Let's talk about it in the latest episode of the Hooniverse Podcast!
Oh hey there... it's been a while. But we're back. This is the Hooniverse Podcast with hosts Jeff Glucker and new host Ron Baugh. This episode is all about playing a bit of catch-up to see what's going on, introduce you to Ron, and chat a bit about cars. Settle in, grab a drink, and hit play - it's nice to be with you again. Thanks for waiting for us
We've hit 300. This is a major milestone for this podcast, and it's the perfect number for us to take a pause. Our guest this week is Reel Big Fish bassist and car lover Derek Gibbs. We recorded this episode live at Four Sons Brewery in Huntington Beach, CA.
Josh Ostrander just bought a 2007 Audi RS4. It's a rare car. With its Imola Yellow paint, it's finished in a rare hue. It's one of the best sounding Audi cars ever built. It's also a giant highlighter for just how annoying it can be to buy a car through a small used car lot.
Click play and listen in to Josh explain his initial adventures with his new super sedan.
Chris Hayes and I attempt a new format for the podcast. This is a bit of virtual insanity as we podcast from two different places. Our chatter involves the new 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette, and a whole bunch more
Welcome to episode 297 of the Hooniverse Podcast. Today I have Josh Ostrander and Micah Muzio with me, and we dive into a bit of news to kick things off. First we chat about the new Lotus Evija, an electric car from the company that's all about lightweight. Next, there's a new Skyline and it lives in Japan. Finally, the C8 Corvette reveal is set to go down this Thursday evening in Orange County, California.
After the news, we move on to your questions. There are some great ones this week.
Finally, we close on a story about Josh getting ready to acquire a new daily driver. This one will be interesting, so listen up to learn what's going on, and why Josh has to fly to Seattle to buy it.
Kelley Blue Book's own Micah Muzio joins me on episode 296 of the Hooniverse podcast. In this episode, we talk about Micah's unique path to his current role, which is running the video content on KBB. We also dive into the fact that Micah is a helicopter pilot and owns his own Engstrom chopper.
After that, we answer a few of your questions and talk a bit more about cars.
I'm sitting solo in my garage once again. This time in a Cadillac CT6. I want to run this episode as a standard episode though, so we kick things off with some news.
First, we have the upcoming Lotus Type 130 electric hypercar. Then we shift over to Elon Musk's musings of his future pickup truck. Honda has set a new lawnmower speed record, and Cadillac has neutered its V-series cars.
After that I talk about some new work, the future of this podcast, and then ramble on about some recent terrible news concerning one of our friends.
After the 24 Hours of LeMons, I've returned to push out a podcast. At LeMons, our Ranchero was running well before we hit a few snags. I'll go over all of that and a bit more in this 30-minute episode of the Hooniverse Podcast.
I've been a bad podcast producer. This episode is almost two weeks late. I have many excuses but none are worth hearing. This is episode 293, and in it I'm sitting alone in my garage. More specifically, I'm sitting in my still-unsold Mercedes-Benz. I talk about that a little bit, some Bring A Trailer news, the recent Audi E-Tron drive, and the fact that I'm running in a LeMons race this weekend.
Click play and listen up!
Chris and I are in the studio and we kick it off with a bit of news. Aston Martin is dishing out a manual-gearbox equipped Vantage. Hennessey is making a Velociraptor Ranger. The Challenger is outselling the Camaro. And the C8 Corvette will be unveiled in Orange County, CA. After that we dive into some questions, talk about our own vehicles, and more.
I'm in a McLaren 600LT on the way back from driving a Honda concept vehicle. Josh Ostrander joins me as we chat about the Honda Rugged Open Air Concept I just drove (and he shot). We also talk about the 600LT, which is not great for a long drive. Josh updates us on his Volkswagen Golf Alltrack progress and I provide some updates on my Montero.
Returning to Hooniverse; Jonathon Klein (now of The /Drive) fills in for Jeff this week. We cover Jon's time in the new Rolls Cullinan, the Ducati Panagale V4 S, the madness of the McLaren 720s and we touch on a bit of C8 news.
Josh Ostrander joins me to chat about the Formula Drift season opener. Long Beach played host to the skid racers, and the field was stacked. It's going to be a great season.
We also dive into a bit of news. Jeep knows its Hellcat engine fits in the Gladiator and Wrangler, but won't put it in there... and for good reason. Hyundai has snagged the former Chief Engineer of the Ford Focus RS. And a Dodge Demon owner has taken his straight-line monster machine up to 211 miles per hour.
After chugging through that, and then some listener questions, we give a few project car updates and talk about upcoming press cars posted on the calendar.
This is a solo episode. In it, I'm driving my 1991 Mitsubishi Montero as I talk about project cars. The unexpected costs associated with an inexpensive machine, quickly turn it into something you'd consider the opposite. Additionally, I talk about the 2019 Acura NSX, McLaren 600LT, my 1974 Mercedes-Benz, and more.
In the finale of our SEMA 2018 coverage I sit down with our booth-neighbors Essex Parts. Essex are the exclusive supplier of AP Racing braking components in the United States and focus on ultra-high-performance street and track brake systems. With over 30 years of experience racing; Essex became a key partner for NASCAR when the decided to started implementing road-coarse features and have gained notoriety among track-rats for powerful and reliable braking. In addition to covering the Essex product offerings myths regarding drilled rotors are debunked, arguments are made for why one should upgrade brake lines and the benefits of moving to steel rotors from factory carbon rotors are shared.
Josh Ostrander joins us in Casa de Chris Hayes... where we immediately make fun of the amount of chocolate he puts into his craw. From there we talk about the issues facing the upcoming C8 Corvette, 2JZ engines being shoved into the new Supra, and the Mint 400.
After that it's a bit of chatter about our various machines; Chris officially sold his Fiesta, Josh is putting KO2 tires on his Golf Alltrack, and I made some changes to my Montero.
Joining me this week is Kevin Kastner of Amsoil and one of my good friend's from the LA automotive community Ezekiel Wheeler.
Wrapping up our SEMA 2018 interviews I sit down with Gray Fredrick of Advanced Fuel Dynamics. AFD are responsible for some of the most innovative Flex fuel sensos and tuning solutions on the market. Based out of Temple Texas AFD is nestled square in the middle of the Texas tuner community and works tirelessly helping race teams and aftermarket manufacturers cope with the widely varying quality of E85 fuels and conventional gasoline.
For the third year in a row Dan Sandberg CEO of Brembo USA sits down to talk about their new product offerings, vertical integration OEM contracts and personal interests.
Chris says a fond farewell to his Ford Fiesta ST. The FiST will be missed, but it's not straying too far from the Hooniverse family orbit. Our friend Jason Connor is buying the car. Hopefully, I'm able to sell my Benz as quickly as Chris has shipped off the Fiesta. For now though, we're here with a guest for Episode 282 - Patrick Costello is back to talk a bit about the new season of Truck Night in America. He also trekked out to King of the Hammers for a day, and he hasn't yet made any progress on his Jeep Cherokee.
Chris is ready to sell his Ford Fiesta ST. Jeff is ready to sell his Mercedes-Benz 280. And he's just bought a 1991 Mitsubishi Montero to replace the old German sedan. Not a direct swap, but who cares! Welcome to the Hooniverse Podcast, Episode 281...
I sat down with Noah Alexander and Charles Crews from Classic Car Studio better known as the shop from "Speed Is the New Black". The guys brought an absolutely gorgeous F100 to SEMA which was coincidentally parked directly next to our podcasting studio. We of course talked about the F100 the TV show and upcoming trends in the market we expect to see at SEMA.
Good friend of the show and one of the most talented builders in the industry Jason Engel sat down with me on the Magnaflow stage to judge crowds, talk cars and wax poetic.
Jason once again showed up with one of the most stunning cars at SEMA this years with a 1969 Boss 429 punched out to a whopping 546 cubic inches making 819HP!
I sat down with friend of the show Rick Love from Vintage Air. We of course talk about Vintage Air's new product lineup but we also talk about industry trends, pet projects and the inexorable advancement of the automotive industry at large and the amazing products we now get to choose from.
Chris and Jeff sit down to talk about the Hooniverse Car of the Year. Which is not a car, but a junkyard-built bike. The pair also chat about the fact that the Dodge Challenger outsold the Camaro in 2018. Hagerty has published a list of the 10 vehicles collectors should scoop up in 2019. Finally, Subaru is set to bring a new S209 STI to North America.
After that it's time for questions from Patreon, Twitter, and Facebook.
Lastly, the pair talk about stuff they've driven. Jeff drove the Genesis G70 while back east. He returned to California and jumped into an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Next up is the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye, Audi Q8, and Porsche SportsTurismo.
SEMA 2018 gave me the opportunity to test out a new panel format and it went incredibly well thanks in no small part to our guests.
Elana Scherr, Mike Musto, Aaron Robinson and Lyn Woodward all join me live on the Magnaflow stage at SEMA 2018.
Chris and I chat about:
After that it's question time, we talk about things we've driven, and I talk about giving Chris my back-end access...
Live again from the Magnaflow stage at SEMA 2018 I sit down with Todd Westberg from Heidts Suspension.
We talk about how their unique product lineup is changing how people look at mid 90s muscle.
We needed to get the band back together for a livestream show. Recently, your ear holes have been treated to a handful of SEMA episodes but a fresh batch has been cooked up for those that like to mix it up. Patrick Costello joins us once again so we can talk about his show Truck Night in America, which enters Season 2 starting early in 2019. Additionally, Chris and I have driven a handful of machines so it's time to play catch up.
This episode we sit down with APR alongside special guest host Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained.
Live again from the SEMA 2018 show floor on the Magnaflow stage I sit down with Jim and Mike Ring. We talk about their spectacular Blazer debuted at SEMA, trends seen at the show and the importance of keeping an open mind to learn from others within your own lane of expertise.
Live from the Magnaflow podcasting stage at SEMA 2018 I interview Dinan about their 2018/2019 offerings and specifically their return to flash tunes.
Chris is busy prepping for SEMA so I'm solo this week. I've driven the Range Rover SVR to a nice quiet spot and I'm recording from inside the 575-hp $132k SUV. Topics this week include;
Well... maybe not the episode itself, but I am! So I've enlisted the help of Josh Ostrander to sit in with myself and Chris Hayes. He's here to talk about the Formula Drift season ender that went down at Irwindale the prior weekend. After that we talk about:
And we take your questions as well. Tune in for some sniffly automotive rantings and ramlbings!
Jason Connor takes my spot on this episode and chats with Chris Hayes about, well, cars, duh.
Jason recently bought a C6 Z06 and the pair also wax poetic about all things carbon build up.
There's no news this week. It's time, instead, to dive into the past three months of comments on YouTube. This means we're going to find confusing messages. We'll find hateful messages. We will find the sort of stuff that people typically wouldn't have the guts to see to another person face to face. And we will laugh, and we will enjoy it all.
Friend of Hooniverse Jonathon Klein joins us on show this week. First up, we dip into the news where we discuss:
After that, Klein tells us what it's like to drive a Bugatti Chiron. The lucky bastard also drove David Lee's Monza 3.6 Evo Ferrari Dino restomod.
Chris and I kick things off by discussing the fact that Bugatti will not be building more W16 engines in the future. Rolls-Royce believes nanobots are the future of engine maintenance. BMW has a self-riding motorycle in the works. After the news we switch gears to answer some questions before talking about what we've been driving and doing.
Josh Ostrander joins us on the show. He recently returned from Gridlife in Atlanta, where he saw drift cars, time attack machines, and late-night music performances all at the same venue. We also talk about the insanity that is a $180,000 2002 BMW M5, answer your questions, and talk about our own cars.
As for press cars, this week it's the new Hyundai Veloster R-Spec.
There's some solid news this week. Audi plans to offer an extremely limited run of manual transmission Audi A4 sedans. These will be designated as Ultrasport models and only 40 will be built. Jeep is launching its first limited-edition JL Wrangler with the new Moab Edition. Formula E wants an off-road racing series and will call it Extreme E. Finally, DriveTribe is a black hole for cash.
After slogging through the news it is on to your questions before diving into what's going on with us. That includes a trip to Yosemite with the Audi S5 Sportback, getting my Benz fixed, and being hopefully that The Wombat will start on its new path beginning next week.
Chris finished the studio and we've got video cameras, which means there's going to be a live-streaming version of this podcast on YouTube. As we record the show, we'll do it live but also still offer up the audio-only version through ShoutEngine. In the post on Hooniverse, I will place both the video and the audio versions so you can choose which one you'd prefer.
In this episode, we talk about:
-Aston Martin announces the power output of the Valkyrie's 6.5-liter V12 engine.
-A 2002 BMW M5 is estimated to fetch $140,000 to $180,000 at auction during Monterey Car Week
-Toyota is pricing the Tundra TRD Pro within a grand of the Ford Raptor
-A crash-damaged Porsche 959 is going to be auctioned at Pebble Beach.
After that we dive into your questions before chatting about our own rides. My Benz is running hot which is leading to some stumbling issues. The Wombat might have an engine lined up. Chris is still happy with his new-to-him Porsche Macan. I spent a week in a Dodge Charger Dayona 392 and will be swapping into an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio this weekend.
Chris and I are back in the studio and we've got some news on our own cars. Mine is that the Wombat no longer plays host to a non-running HEMI and transmission. Those are out, sold, and gone! Chris has bigger news in that he bought a Porsche Macan S as his new daily driver. His Ford Fiesta will be up for sale soon as well.
In this episode we also chat about Rally Rd, which is a very interesting project that sales shares in vintage cars. It's basically a stock market of sorts for expensive old machines.
Finally, we dive into your questions before realizing it's getting late in the summer season and no one cars about podcasts right now.
Josh Ostrander and I head on off to Baja to drive the Wide Open Buggy down in the Mexican desert. This podcast is recorded in two parts; the first part is on the way down to Mexico and the second is in the car on the way home from the border. What do we talk about? Well... I mean, I kind of told you that already. It's about what we think Baja will be like and then talking about how the trip went in the second half.
Listen in and I hope you enjoy this one.
Friend of Hooniverse Adi Desai joins me on this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast. Adi is in town visiting from Canada, where he is part of the team that runs http://doubleclutch.ca/. Adi happens to enjoy big old Benzes like I do, so we chat about his 560SEL. We also happen to have stopped at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center just before recording... so we've clearly got Benz on the brain in an extra strength dosage.
Chris is on the East Coast so I'm sitting solo on this one. That means I'm down in my garage, sitting in the front seat of my Benz, with a glass of wine in my hand... and a podcast microphone in the other. Topics this week include a dash of news;
After that it's on to the questions, and you have some good ones this week. Really, you have good ones every week. Finally, we dive into a bit of my own car stuff. I just spent a week with the Lexus GX460 and you can find a review of tht truck on Truck Central right now. Later, Josh Ostrander and I are heading south of the border to drive buggys with Wide Open Baja. Additionally, my 1974 W114 Benz is fixed up and back home.
Chris and I walk through a bit of the news to kick of episode 256. On tap, we have to talk about:
After that we dive into all of your questions before talking a bit about what we've got going on ourselves. I spent a week in the GMC Canyon Denali and I've since swapped into a Volvo V90. Additionally, my Benz comes back this week and then later this month I'm heading to Baja to drive a Wide Open Buggy.
This one's late but we have EXCUSES!
1) It was the the 4th of July.
2) Chris had to deal with his lame as Internet provider.
3) That's it... we're sorry
In this episode we have Jonathon Klein and Patrick Costello on the show. There's a bit of news but then we once again dive into the world of automotive television. Patrick provides great insight while Jonathon and I realize we're never going to be famous.
Like ever.
Welcome to Part Two of my conversation with Rick Radcliffe and his vehicular adventures. We're picking up right where we left off last week, which was in a discussion of the various track events that Rick has been enjoying. He's only had his Subaru WRX for a little bit, but he's already making the most of this one.
Rick Radcliffe is once again on the show. He's stopping by to tell us a bit about his current garage situation and then we dive into what he's doing with his new daily driver. A Subaru WRX that is being used around town but also out on the track.
We run a bit long so I've decided to break this up into two parts. Today you'll get Part One and next week we will run Part Two. Here we also get into a bit of the news while your questions wind up in the second episode.
We're in Chris' new apartment and we're not in full studio mode yet, but we still want to run things a bit old school while exploring the new. So for Ep252 we bring it back to the original format; The News!
We kick things off by talking about the Aston Martin Rapide AMR, Forza Horizon 4, the Shelby GT350, and Rolls-Royce's Cars and Cognac event. After that it's time to talk about our own cars and what we're driving. This week I'm in an Audi R8 Spyder before I swap into a Lexus LC500. The following week I get a chance to sample the new F-150 diesel and I'll be towing a small Airstream behind.
Finally, we move on to your questions. Patreon first, as always, then Twitter and Facebook. This old format feels right, so we're going to run it this way for awhile and get back into our groove.
Fresh off the Nissan Kicks launch Manuel Carillo joins me in the future home of the podcast to record amongst the clutter of my many unpacked boxes. This week we discuss a little bit about the Kicks (much of the trip was still embargoed) Manuel fills me in on the new Mustang Peformance Pack 2, we geek out on car audio gear and I reflect on just how ridiculous it is to drive a full size truck in a major city like Los Angeles with my review of the Chevrolet Silverado HD2500 High Country Duramax ultramega torque monster 7200.
Blake BZR Rong returns alongside friend of Hooniverse Jonathon Klein to deliver an on-the-road podcast. The pair are attending a press event in Utah and they decided to sit down and chat about all things automotive. Well, first they make fun of Chris and I and then they get to talking about cars.. eventually.
Regardless, they're funny and you should listen.
Josh Ostrander joins Chris Hayes and Jeff Glucker on this episode of the podcast. We're recording at 4 Sons Brewing once again, and we have a few things to talk about. Josh still enjoys his boring Alltrack. Chris still wants to sell his Fiesta. I still need to fix things on my Benz.
Also I drove an Aston Martin DB11 AMR, and I can't tell you how that went just yet. But go look at the released specs compared to the current DB11 V12, and read the press release to see the changes and you'll have a good idea of what's going on there.
Finally, we dive into some questions before I cut them off to talk negatively about someone else... for good reason.
I'm solo. Not Solo. Though that would be fun...
This is a solo episode, and today I'm talking about my two Benz project cars. The one that drives and the one that doesn't. After that, it's question time, and we have plenty of those to run through. We'll cover everything from project cars, more thoughts on what Ford is doing, and maybe even talk a bit about beer.
Hit play and enjoy Episode 248.
Patrick Costello joins me on this episode of the podcast and we walk about automotive television. He's an Executive Producer for Truck Night in America and we worked together on Top Gear US (when it was still good, on the History channel). So we wanted to talk a bit about what goes into making a show, why other shows don't work, and what we do like out of certain shows.
After that we dive into your questions. Also we're recording from a brewery - thanks again Four Sons Brewing!
Associate Video Producer Josh Ostrander joins me in an Infiniti QX60 as we drive to the other side of Los Angeles to see the new Avengers Infinity War film. Along the way, we talk about an old Mustang, Josh's new Volkswagen, my Benz wagon, Ford's no-more-cars decision, and a few other bits and pieces along the way.
We didn't crash. So thumbs up for that!
Jeff had to step out this week... something something I'm a father... something something daugter... so I took the chance to meet up with Hooniverse regular Zack Klapman for a one-on-one catch up. This week we cover the Long Beach Grand Prix, the recent passing of the "One Take" reigns to Zack and my deliberations on a new daily.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has joined the party! I'm driving the Italian sports sedan this quick and so far *knock on wood* it hasn't broken down. That's amazing considering the car has done that for pretty much everyone else that's driven it.
Beyond that we talk a bit about Chris' upcoming potential car purchase, my Benz duo, and an upcoming loan of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
After that it's question time, and as always, you folks have some good ones.
Elana Scherr, formally of Hot Rod and Roadkill, joins us in the podcast studio to talk all things car. She has a hell of a growing fleet on her hands, and we have to dive in and see what is going on with a handful of those rides. Most notable might be her 1970 Dodge Challenger, which has seen its 440 engine swapped out for a race-prepped 505.
After taking a deep dive into the world of too-many duallys and Mopar madness in different states of repair, it's time for your questions.
Friend of Hooniverse Jonathon Klein stops by to join us in the studio. We talk about some of the fast machines that Klein has driven lately, and that includes the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Scarbo open-wheel vintage Ferrari tribute race car, and a few McLarens. After that I remind everyone that the new Jeep Wrangler is really good before we dive on into your questions.
Spoiler alert: the new Jeep Wrangler is good! The 2018 Chevy Silverado, however, isn't so great. What's also good is a Kia Stinger GT AWD that wears snow tires and is let loose on a winter driving course. Those are the main topics this week, but we also tackle your podcast questions.
Finally, we dip into some upcoming vehicles and then also try out a new segment at the end of the podcast. It's a talk about some photo/video/travel gear. This time around we cover the Wandrd Access duffel, Mavic Air, and some upgraded ear pads for the Audio-Technica ATH M50x headphones.
I'm sitting in a Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport, and it's getting hotter. Regardless, I have things to say and a recorder to capture it all. Topics this week include the Tahoe RST, Tacoma TRD Sport, a trip to Colorado to drive a Kia, and some potential news on a bigger trip coming up in May.
Also, we touch on a bit of the news out of Geneva. Specifically, the reveals of the Rimac C_Two and the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro.
Finally, I'm excited to try out a new camera bag and I touch on that towards the end of the episode.
We're back in the studio! Joining Chris Hayes and myself is friend of Hooniverse Manuel Carillo III. You can find his work at his website MC3films. The three of us sit down to talk about a few cars before we're interrupted by; tangents, not cars, and more gunfire. Good times!
Topics covered include: Chris' cars, a brief note on Manuel's #ProjectStork Porsche, the Chevy Colorado ZR2, and the Audi RS 5.
Solo episode recorded from inside the ridealong chamber of the 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat W I D E B O I.
Also, I chat briefly about heading off to sample the new Audi RS5, some updates to my Mercedes-Benz 280 sedan, and touch on a few of the vehicles coming to Hooniverse in the next few weeks and months.
Sorry for the short solo episode, we'll be back in the studio soon.
Dan Sandberg CEO of Brembo North America joins us once again as our final guest at SEMA 2017. Dan shares his personal experience podcasting, a couple of Jay Leno stories, how he keeps an open dialog among such a massive organization his personal experience podcasting, and of course Brembo products and development. In addition, Dan just bought himself the very nice gift of a brand new 911 Turbo so of course, we get into that.
Once again thanks to our friends at Magnaflow for hosting us and check out their products at https://www.magnaflow.com/
Jason Fenske is the man behind the popular Engineering Explained YouTube channel. He and I are shuttling out to a driving event in Palm Springs, and I took the opportunity to fire up a GoPro and record a conversation. We'll learn a bit about Jason's Honda S2000 and Subaru Crosstrek, how he started the channel, and where he see it all going down the road.
...as we roll on down the road in the 2018 Mustang.
Time to send out a solo episode, and this one comes to you from the cabin of a 2018 Ford Mustang. I'm sitting in my garage talking to myself while a Zoom H6 records my dulcet tones.
Topics for today include; the aforementioned Mustang, driving the new Subaru WRX STI Type RA and BRZ tS, and heading off to Corsica to sample the Jaguar E-Pace. There's also some news on my 74 Benz and a plea for help on the Wombat. After that it's time for some questions from our Patreon peeps.
This week Jon Klein and I venture into the wilds of Burbank California to meet up with friends of the show, Mike and Jim Ring, aka The Ring Brothers. The guys flew in to show off their amazing 1972 AMX Javelin on Jay Leno's Garage.
With an astounding track record for delivering machines as beautiful as they are well-engineered the Javelin does not disapoint. The Javelin is good for north of 1000HP utilizing a Hellcat engine topped off with a Whipple twins-screw supercharger.
Check out the Ring Brothers amazing builds at https://ringbrothers.com
The penultimate episode in our SEMA series has Jeff and I sitting down with the gentlemen from APR. We cover just about everything in the APR universe from basic Jetta tunes all the way up to their Lamborghini and R8 offerings. One thing was VERY clear, the APR boys love them some turbochargers.
Thanks again to our friends at Magnaflow for hosting us at SEMA 2017.
We've missed you! It's been a lot of SEMA episodes, but those episodes enable us to give you ear-hole content while taking in a much-needed holiday break. That break is now over, and we're back in the studio talking car stuff (and all the other crap that rambles into our vapid brains).
Josh Ostrander joins us in the studio for this episode. We talk about his first time in Baja, how we met, and how he's moved from a few entry jobs into a full-time video gig with a large company.
Also... car stuff!
Nearing the end of SEMA 2017 we managed to wrangle a bunch of our friends onto the show for what is best described as Automotive Attention Deficit Disorder. This episode we welcome Mike Musto and Colin Sebern (House of Muscle) Larry Kosila (AMMO Autocare & Drive + Protect) David Meyer of Turbonetics/Precision Turbo, Matt Farah (The Smoking Tire & /Drive on NBC) and of course the dulcet tones of Jeff Glucker and myself (Chris Hayes).
We should all thanks the jerks at Borla for purposely attempting to drown us out the entire week of recording with their egregious speaker setup by only buying products from our VERY GRACIOUS HOSTS MAGNAFLOW for setting up stage space for ShoutEngine podcasts.
Another in our SEMA series of episode (only 3 more left) Jeff and I welcome Hellwig to the podcast. Hellwig are purveyors of suspension upgrades for a vast array of trucks. While Hellwig has a handle on improving overall street performance they hold an interesting niche in massively improving suspension performance for heavy loads and towing. In short Hellwig products will remove the "pucker factor" that can be associated with the handling compromises of towing.
Check out Hellwig here http://www.hellwigproducts.com/products/
Also we thank Mangflow for hosting ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA, you can of course find Magnaflow here... http://magnaflow.com
Back for the third year in a row one of favorite guests... Jason Engel of Classic Recreations. This year Jason brought along his right-hand man in the shop Jared. We talk CR's usual product lineup of Mustangs and Camaros however Jason reveals their upcoming Mopar project and his long awaited Bronco offering. Outside of those offerings we go a bit off the beat path (as is tradition) into Tesla drivetrain swaps, C10 big blocks, off-road conversions of classic cars and how Jason proposes Jeff finally fix the Wombat's ailments.
Classic Recreations can be found at https://www.classic-recreations.com
Also, thanks go Magnaflow for providing the stage for ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA 2017.
Our SEMA journey continues, this time with the good folks at Heidts Suspension. This is a brand that's been around for sometime now, and they know all about chassis improvement.
Hit that play button and come along as we talk about all things suspension... and then some.
Dan McNiff has turned into one of my favorite podcast guests over the last few years; Dan is a technical project manager and oversees warrantying all the beautiful upgrades for BMWs (and Minis) at Dinan. Reprising his SEMA role from last year Dan stops by to share details on their new product offerings but as per usual we deviate from the roadmap shortly thereafter. We get the inside story on Dinan's forays into the VW/Audi world only to be interrupted by their parent company purchasing APR tuning. Beyond business dealings though we discuss some of the common maladies of modern BMWs and the limitations they reach building warranteed upgrades that can be overcome by their more ambitious clientele.
Check out Dinan's product offerings at https://www.dinancars.com/
Once again thanks to Magnaflow for hosting ShoutEngine podcast on their stage at SEMA 2017
In this episode from our SEMA series Jeff and I have a chat w/ engineers from Garret by Honeywell (aka the turbo people). We get a crash course on development of product, considerations in designs for OEM vs. aftermarket applications and we discuss our guests personal project cars.
You can check out Garrett's produc offerings at https://www.turbobygarrett.com.
Once again thanks to Mangaflow for setting us up with a stage at SEMA 2017.
This episode I'm joined by Renegade Hybrids of Las Vegas; purveyors of the famous LS engine swap kits for the Porsche 911. You've likely seen or read about their work over the last year as they made a big splash at SEMA 2016 offering up test drives to a number of automotive journalists. We start off with the history of Renegade and quickly dive into the positives and negatives of swapping a big V8 into a spot where a flat six formerly resided and even go so far as to explore the depths of wiring harnesses in these ambitious swaps.
Check out Rengades website at http://www.renegadehybrids.com/ and once again thanks to Magnaflow for providing a stage for ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA 2017.
The first in our series of SEMA 2017 podcasts Will Baty of Centerforce clutches stops by to talk about .... clutches. That said we talk about what to expect visiting SEMA and the realities of tradeshows at large before we dive head first into "Clutchlandia". Clutchlandia is a magical place where friction is high slipping is punishable by death and Evo engines magically survive past 400HP.
Ridiculous ficticious nations aside we cover the developments of clutch technology over the last twenty years, how flywheel weights affect your driving and some of the intricacies of dual-clutch transmissions. Thanks to Magnaflow for graciously hosting the Hooniverse and ShoutEngine podcasts at SEMA 2017.
Just me and a delicious bottle of beer, sitting around spinnin' yarns...
Today I talk about running the Pismo Beach dunes in a Polaris RZR, letting someone else drive our Mazda CX-5 so we can taste wine, and then I dive into the upcoming guests for the SEMA episodes we're going to record next week.
After that it's question time, and as always you all have some good ones.
JonathOn Klein and Colin Woodard join us in the Hooniverse podcast studio today. You all know Klein, and Mr. Woodard joins us as a guest from Motor Trend. We talk about some of the interesting machines they've driven lately. This includes a Dirt Sprint car that apparently wants to behave more like a rally car than a dirty drift machine.
After that it's time for questions, and we ponder far too long about the fate of the upcoming C8 Corvette.
Here's a solo episode from the road. I just took my 1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 for a drive from Orange County out to Palm Springs to sample the new Land Rover Velar. It's the longest trip I've done in the Benz to date, and the old Merc handled it like a champ.
So I chat about that and some plans for the car, but also talk about the Volvo V90 CC I just spent a week driving. After that it's time for your questions.
Solo once again, and I'm here to answer your questions. Before that, I have a brief bit of info on what I'm driving now and later in the week. Also, I just put out a new Shift Happens video focusing on restoring the paint on my '74 Benz. Then it's question time and like always, you all deliver wonderfully.
I'm solo on this one but I've still got a few things to talk about. Namely, the recent bit of seat time I had with the Superformance Grand Sport Corvette, the return of my 1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 Sedan, and a few other odds and ends. After that I dive straight into your questions because it gets silly trying to babble away when I'm by myself. Plus you've all got some great questions, and I am in a hurry to answer them.
Zack Klapman is back in the podcast studio, and he joins us in a discussion on some fresh news items. We chat about the McLaren body armor built for a billionaire, Toyota's new GR sub-brand, and that rad Ford Lightning Tribute truck sold in Georgia.
After that it's time for your questions, and there's a lot of them so we never get to chatting about our own drives and recent vehicular experiences.
Chris and I dive into a bit of the news making its way 'round the old Internet this week. That includes the reveal of the Mercedes-AMG Project One, Bugatti making serious speed with a Chiron, Porsche releasing a 911 R-esque machine for the plebians, and a bit more. After that it's time to dive into your questions before talking a bit about our own cars and what we're driving.
And yes... the #HoonTruck has been sold.
Friend of Hooniverse Joel Strickland is an Australian photographer. He's contributed to our site, and also produces great imagery work for a whole lot of automakers and motorsports teams in his native land. Joel happened to be stateside for a few days, so we invited him on to the podcast.
We're going to learn about some Aussie beer before diving into the world of the automobile.
Another in our recovered SEMA podcast series this time Zack and I sit down with the CEO of Waylens. You know the cool Apollo moon-lander automotive cameras! The conversation is not at all what I was anticipating and we had a great chat about the origins of the company and what it takes to produce a camera specifically for the auto enthusiast market.
From the depths of data restoration comes a revived SEMA episode with myself and Zack talking with Nitto tire at SEMA 2016.
Chris and I are talking about some bits of news this week. Infiniti has made one of the best concept cars ever. FCA might become a Chinese company. Singer is working on a monster of an engine. After that, we dive into your questions.
Seriously though, how awesome is that Infiniti concept racer? And that Singer engine? This is a good week for news.s
We kick this one out old school... we're bringing back the news! It's time to return to the slightly more structured format from where we started. That means when we don't have a guest we're to start the episode off by running down some interesting news items from the past week or so.
Today we're talking about:
After that, we dive into your questions and then give some updates about what we're driving and where we're going.
Our friend Ezekiel Wheeler comes by the show to talk about his fresh take on the car show. It's a pop-up deal that happens every so often, and there are five featured cars for folks to check out and learn about from their respective owners.
We've also got the Audi TT-RS and RS3 to chat about, the Touge California, and then it's on to your questions.
The HoonTruck comes home after a brief stint in the shop. It's running better, has fresh front glass, and the exhaust outlets are now evenly lined up. Meanwhile, the Benz is about to go under the knife for some suspension fixes.
Right now, I'm driving the Chevy Colorado ZR2 so I've got a few things to say about that. Coming up later in the week is the Jaguar F-Type R convertible and then it's off to the East Coast to drive the Audi RS3 and TT-RS at Lime Rock Park.
Finally, we dive into your questions.
We're in a new location for this episode; producer Chris Hayes has a new apartment and we're going to explore the space. Topics today include the new Ford Fusion Sport, some updates to the HoonTruck and the Benz, and a little bit of chatter about an upcoming drive of the new Subaru Crosstrek taking place in South Dakota.
After that, it's time for your questions
Running solo during this holiday week to try and get an episode up and out. I am sitting in my garage in the new Acura MDX hybrid and talking to my laptop, which is on my lap.
Topics include my truck, my Benz, some upcoming rides, and a few upcoming trips. It's a short episode so I apologize for that but I wanted to make sure we got some content out for you.
And I hit the reader questions from last week.
Dan Greenawalt, the Creative Director for Turn 10 Studios, swings by the podcast studio to talk about Forza 7. We dive into a bit of his current car love (A Mustang GT350), and press him for some details on the game before taking your questions.
We're all in the studio and joined by guest Manuel Carrillo III. He's an automotive content machine doling out great pieces (both written and video-based) for a plethora of Internet Brands outlets. He's also a friend of Hooniverse.
We brought Manuel in because we wanted to hear about his latest endeavor; restoring his father's old 1977 Porsche 911. This is a car that has been sitting for some time, but it's also the very car that brought a baby MC3 home from the hospital. He's invested in the outcome, and we want to learn more about it all.
I'm up in Seattle for the launch of the new Audi A4/S5 Sportback. It's a fine machine, but I just wish it was an Avant. Regardless, there are other things to talk about including the Indy 500. So onward to the questions which help me cover all the various topics we need to talk about.
I'm sitting in a hotel room in Marina Del Rey and tomorrow I'm going to drive the new Honda Civic Si. Before that happens, let's talk about some other cars. Recently I went to Canada to test Audi's new SQ5 and it was really good. I'm trying to decide what to do with the 1974 Benz W114 I bought, and I'm thinking of putting some new wheels on there. Finally, I'm getting ready to go and watch the Indy 500 this weekend and that should be quite awesome.
Chris, Zack, and I are all in the studio for the first time in what feels like a long time... even though it's only been a few weeks. We talk about Zack getting to check out Jay Leno's Garage and his trip to Icon for a Casino Charity evening. I talk about my recent fuel line fix on the 1974 Mercedes-Benz 280 sedan that I purchased.
After that, we take your questions, and we're keeping the accents alive as well.
Zack joins me in the studio and we run through some fresh updates on our vehicles. Additionally, I just got back from driving a minivan in Hawaii yet I still found a way to make the tires spin. We get to your questions and we've decided that we'll answer the Patreon questions by way of the accent cards Zack keeps in the studio... so that's fun.
From the arid plains of Texas we are joined by a mythical figure, few dare utter his name and fewer still believed the legend that he would one day return to reclaim his rightful throne to rule with an iron fist adorned in vintage style clothing with a belly full of beer and a complete disregard for microphone etiquette. That's right, it's the return of Mr. Rong.
This is Episode 200. It's a bit crazy to think we've been gathering to talk into microphones, laptops, handheld recorders, and other bits of tech for a number of years now. To celebrate Episode 200, we decided to record this one in person. A handful of folks gathered at Four Sons Brewery in Huntington Beach, CA and we chatting about our favorite subject.
Guests on this episode include Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire and Bradley Brownell from Hooniverse, Flat Six Society on The Drive, and a pair of podcasts on this network (Cammed & Tubbed and The DFL Show).
Listen in as we talk through another episode. This time with people staring back at us and drinking beer.
Chris from B is for Build and Freddy Tavarish Hernandez stop by to talk about cheap cars, YouTube, and anything else we can think of... which is usually inane and random, when you leave it up to us.
Chris is entering the challenge with his Mad Maxian Infiniti G35 that he picked up cheap from CoPart. Tavarish has gone with a 4.6-liter Ford Mustang convertible. It's a V8 manual trans car, so it should be a blast even if it looks like a California rental car from the late 90's.
Corbin Goodwin and Michael Elterman are the hosts of a new show called Corbin'S Hit Show. You should watch it because it's hilarious.
We invited the pair onto the podcast to chat about the show, and some other topics that pop up including the Corbin's RX-7 and Rolls-Royce Drift Car, and Michael's LS-swapped Fox Body Mustang.
Here's a solo episode recorded a few days after 200 was recorded. Since 200 doesn't come out for a few more weeks, I wanted to make sure I get an episode out this week so we're not waiting longer to run Ep200.
Here I talk about some potential project cars I'm looking at acquiring, some possible plans for the HoonTruck, and a recent drive in the new Audi S4 and S5.
Chris and I are in the studio and we're chatting about some of the vehicles I've driven lately. This includes; the Dinan BMW M2 S2, the Audi S3, and... the Chrysler Pacifica for some reason. I'll be heading out later today to sample the latest Audi S4 and S5, which I'll talk about on a future episode. We also have a new sponsor, so thanks goes out to http://NicholasHunziker.com.
There's some mention of an upcoming milestone and a bit more talk about all the stuff we're doing with Valvoline for Team.Valvoline.com.
I am solo at home this evening for episode 195. I still have a few things to chat about, including our Team Valvoline stuff, my truck, the potential new project car I'm going to look at, and the cars I'm driving. That means we have to chat about the Audi S3 and the Dinan BMW M2 S2. Also, I have your excellent questions to answer.
Kyle and James are the hosts of the Petersen Museum's Car Stories Podcast. They have been running the show there since September and have managed to interview a ton of great folks associated with this industry. Now it's our turn to talk to them... and by that, I mean it's my turn to talk about my truck mostly.
Another in our long series of SEMA podcasts; Zack and I sat down and had a great talk with Dan Sandberg the President/CEO of Brembo North America. Having spent a number of years in radio Dan makes one hell of a guest sharing his insights in manufacturing, growing a brand, product development and just doing good focused business.
Andrew Collins is the freshly minted Reviews Editor of Jalopnik.com. He and I happened to be attending the same wave for the US launch of the new Aston Martin DB11. I took the opportunity to fire up the podcast-o-motron and record a new episode. This takes place while we're driving the DB11 through the curvy roads of Anza Borrego. You'll hear the car, Andrew's adventures in the off-road world, and some speeding done at strictly legal levels.
Friends of the show Jonathon Klein and Jason Connor join Chris and myself in the studio. We talk about the recent DWA Coastal Range Rally, which Connor attended with his Ford Focus ST. Klein tells us about driving the Scarbo F1 replica car, which sounds amazing.
Additionally, there's some news on the upcoming recording of Episode 200! It will take place on April 3rd at Four Sons Brewery in Huntington Beach. We should get started around 7pm.
After that bit of news, we rush through your questions because we all wanted to go to K1 after and hit up the karting track
Perennial favorites and awe-inspring builders Jim and Mike Ring stop by to share their experience building Wes Rydell's 1948 Cadillac Coupe ATS-V hybrid. As usual the guys have done some outstanding work but few people appreciate just how big of an undertaking the 48 was. The car is FAR from a simple engine swap and in total it's truly a complete re-engineering of an ATS-V that happens to look like a 48 Caddy.
On this episode Zack Klapman (@ZackKlapman) and I (@HayesData) are joined by the men behind the House of Muscle Mike Musto (@MDMusto) and Pat Devereux, last but not least our good friend Larry Kosilla (@AMMO_NYC) of Ammo Autocare joins the mix as well. We cover the trends of things we're seeing at SEMA, RWB Porsches, generally tacky crap and we fill in the blanks with an occassional jab at each other.
We did his, now he does ours...
our podcast that is, and we're referring to guest Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire. He's been a busy man the last year or so, with his steady stream of One Take videos on his own channel or the great shows he's hosting for NBC Sports as part of The Drive.
Matt sits down to talk with us about all of that, and then some. Also we get in some questions as well. If you want to hear what's essentially the first half of this podcast, you should also tune in to our host Jeff Glucker sitting in as a guest on Matt's TST Podcast.
Long time friends of the show BBI autosport grace us with their presence in the Magnaflow booth at SEMA 2016 once again. Zack and I sit down to talk everything Porsche with BBI including, 991.1 vs 991.2, the future of the GT3, the slow migration of 911 engines forward, carbs vs efi and the legendary build quality of antique german steel.
Chris, Zack, and Jeff are all together in the studio for the first podcast of the new year. The three talk about the new Audi Allroad, dumb valets and the HoonTruck, Zack's BMW M3, Chris' fleet, and what's in store for the rest of the year. After that it's question and answer time.
In a much needed break from being (somewhat) straight-laced at SEMA Carlos Lago (@carloslago) drops by joining Zack Klapman (@ZackKlapman), Jon Klein (@jonathon_klein) and myself (@hayesdata). We play the segue game througout the episode, Carlos does his best to upset Zack and we also get some actual car talk in there as well.
Another in our series of interviews from SEMA 2016 we're joined by Dan McNiff from a little tuning outfit called Dinan. This episode is a little crowded with Zack Klapman, Jason Connor and Jon Klein joining me in grilling Dan about what Dinan has been up to for the last year, his views on the new M2, some slips in BMWs lineup vs. their competition and of course the general insanity that surrounds us at SEMA.
Jeff and Zack jump into the studio to talk about the new Subaru Impreza before chatting about their own vehicles. Is it time Jeff considers a new engine for the Wombat and should he replace the HoonTruck? Zack has some CEL adventures he's currently enjoying on his BMW E46 M3. Hit play and listen in and see if we answer your question along the way.
This week friend of the show and amazing builder Jason Engel of Classic Recreations joins us at SEMA 2016. Jason Connor joins for cohosting duties this episode as Mr. Engel has had a hand in helping Jason wrap up his own "Eleanorish" project with a coyote engine. As to be expected of Classic Recreations they've arrived at SEMA with some absolutely gorgeous mustangs including a GT500 and GT350. In addition to Jason sharing his newest projects with us we talk SEMA overall, fabrication the realities of personal projects and Jason drops some knowledge on the Coyote and Voodoo architectures they've acquired over the last few years.
The boys are all in the studio and there's a fair amount to talk about... mostly because of all the great questions.
We cover Zack's BMW M3, Jeff heading to Mexico to sample the 2018 Audi Q5, and also how Jeff got his hands on Lamborghini Huracan RWD Spyder before pretty much anyone else. After that it's question time!
This episode I'm joined live from the SEMA show floor by Pete Brock. Mr. Brock has had one hell of a storied career bringing us The Daytona Coupe, the Sting Ray and a litany of amazing cars from his BRE mark. Pete drops a couple of serious bombs in the world of Mustang history on this episode along with his usual array of insights and stories of days past. These days Pete is producing some very nicely appointed full aluminum racing trailers with his company Aerovault that I'd highly reccomend checking out if you're in the market.
Another in our series of SEMA 2016 podcasts we're joined by Jon Knoles (@JonK1969) who is design director at Turn 10 games; the company behind the Forza Motorsport series at Microsoft.
We cover a myriad of topics however chiefest among them is this is Jon's first SEMA and of course we dicuss the newly released Forza Horizon 3.
Hooniverse at SEMA 2016 is proudly sponsored by
Jeff and Zack are joined in the studio by guests Brendan McAleer and Ryan West. One is a tremendous writer from Canada who has been on the show before and the other is a first time guest that brings the heat by one-upping nearly all the beer bringers. Nearly.... Brendan and Jonny still win all.
The topic ranges from Brendan's ability to cover amazing cars new and old to Ryan's world with the Right Foot Down website and Untitled Car Show podcast.
Also... Jeff is thinking of selling the #HoonTruck!
Live from the SEMA show floor we're joined by an old friend of the show Mr. Cameron Evans President of Red Line Oil.

This is a bonus episode posted this week as a make up for the failed episode from two weeks ago... We dive back into YouTube, because we enjoy TORTURE!
This week the gang talks about the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class truck and a potential Hyundai mid-engined hot hatch. From there the discussion moves to the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and then over to the McLaren 570S.
After that it's question time, with questions coming from Patreon, Twitter, and Facebook. Additionally, Chris squeezes in a review of the Waylens he's been playing with for the last few weeks.
This is part I of II make-up episodes we're putting out after the last recording went down the shitter. For this episode, Jeff is running solo and he re-answers the Patreon and Facebook questions that got dumped from the last recording.
This week Jon and Zack join me to welcome Doug Herbert and Scott McKee of B.R.A.K.E.S. (putonthebrakes.org) into the studio. Brakes is a non-profit that teaches teenagers the driving skills sorely missing from drivers ed and most parental lessons. Doug shares his storied history as highly celebrated top-fuel drag racer and how he turned tragedy into an organization that has educated thousands of teenagers and likely saved a number of lives along the way.
Jeff and Zack are in the studio, and they're joined by guest Jonathon Klein from Automobile. We talk about the Land Rover Range Rover SVR, the Airstream camping adventure, and the fact that ZACK SOLD THE CROWN VIC! He's got his new ride parked outside the studio, and it's a good one.
Saddle up for episode 172
Jeff and Zack are in studio for a fresh tasty serving of delicious podcast. There's a bit of news first, with topics ranging from the Mazda MX-5 RF Launch Edition to the pricing strategy for the Nissan GT-R Nismo. After that it's talk of some of what Jeff has been driving, and even a bit of HoonTruck fixed-up news. Finally, as we do now, we dive into all of your questions.
I'm joined in studio by Chris and Zack for this latest episode, and we dive into what's been going on over the last week. No news, but rather talk of driving the F-Type SVR at the Coronado Speed Festival, spending time with the F-Pace, and taking in the Audi R8 that's arrived for this week.
Additionally, we go over all the Facebook questions we missed in Episode 169 and tackle all the fresh questions for this episode.
Zack returns from Burning Man. Chris is not toiling away with all of his work. Jeff didn't have to record at home alone. This is a full-on in-studio recording and we've got plenty to talk about.
Volkswagen is killing the two-door GTI. Ford has massive numbers for the Raptor engine. Bridgestone and Pirelli are making tires for a nearly 25 year old British Supercar. Finally, Gymkhana Nine is here.
There's more than that, but isn't there always?
This week Jeff is solo on the podcast, but he's got plenty to talk about. Up first is that spectacular Ford Focus RS Drift Mode crash. After that there's some discussion of the upcoming Challenger AWD and Hellcat Widebody rumors. Last week Jeff drove the Infiniti Q50S Red Sport and this week he's in the Nissan Titan 5.6L V8. There's mention of autocrossing a fast Jag, filming an old Porsche, and closing in on 200 episodes.
We're all back in the studio for episode 167. Chris Hayes is the producer corner, and Jeff hosting. Our guests this week include Hooniverse Associate Editor Jason Connor and the man behind Motor Affair Patrick Stevenson.
Jason has a whole lot to tell us about his Monterey Car Week experience. We dive into the car art world of Motor Affair. There's chatter of project cars, including Patrick's BBI-prepped Porsche that's in the works. Then we take some questions.
Jeff is on his own this week because Zack and Chris are both off and working. He just got back from a quick personal trip back east, where he wound up driving the Mitsubishi Outlander... and he almost drowned, but not in the Mitsubishi. After getting back to the west coast, Jeff hops into the Cadillac CT6 where he's mostly underwhelmed.
It's a solo-shot, red wine glass, relaxing sort of evening. Sit back, grab a drink, and tune on in.
The time has come... to once again dive into the seedy side of the commenting world that is YouTube. It's time for YOUTUBE COMMENTS PART 3! Prepare your ear holes for the hot takes and furious anger.
It's time for another solo episode. Jeff just got back from a family road trip on the east coast. Using an Audi Q7, he and his family trekked from Virginia all the way up into New England. He talks about the trip itself, the car, and seeing his favorite band at his favorite ballpark, near his birthday.
After that there's chatter about the Honda Ridgeline, using track data to improve your times, and the Motor Trend show Engine Masters, plus a bit more.
Hit play and enjoy!

Jeff is on vacation.
Zack is in charge this time, and he's in the studio with guest TJ Fry. Go to http://www.tjdrives.com/ to learn more about TJ, The skinny is that he knows how to handle a car, which is why you'll find him sitting in the driver's seat for film/video projects, or in the passenger seat instructing at the Dirftish rally school.
Jeff and Zack are in the studio this week, and it's time to talk cars. Jeff is fresh off his trip to Atlanta to drive the new Grand Sport Corvette, and Zack is back from filming stuff for The Drive that he can't talk about just yet. Also, Jeff has been keeping track of every vehicle that his daughter Sloane has ridden in over the course of her first year of life. The entire list gets a run through, on this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast.
Host Jeff Glucker is all alone on this one, but he manages to eek out nearly 40 minutes of chatter. Not bad for a guy alone in a room talking to himself!
Topics this week include:
Enjoy!
Jeff is back in the podcast studio and he's joined this week by great friend of the show Zack Klapman. The two talk about Zach's adventure in Germany and his ongoing search for a car. Zack has narrowed it down to hunting for the right E36 M3. Meanwhile, Jeff has some HoonTruck updates and he also recently took a quick spin in a Superformance GT40 MkII.
Also, it's finally live! Here's your chance to help the Hooniverse Podcast by contributing to our Patreon:
Jeff is back from Goodwood. No, this isn't the Scotland Part Deux episode that some of you were hoping to find. Instead, this is a more sober look back at what just might be the greatest automotive event on the planet.
Besides Goodwood, Jeff talks about some HoonTruck stuff and a few upcoming trips. One of those will see him driving the new Grand Sport Corvette, so stay tuned for a report on that one.
Once again Los Angeles traffic has split Jeff and I from our hosting duties, however all is not lost. Ken Anderson head of Mountune here in the states and Carlos Lago join me for an extended chat. Ken shares pretty much everything he can about the development work they're doing on the Focus RS; making it even more impressive.
Carlos joins in shortly after we start and the turbo Ford talk turns into an appreciation for all things small 4 cylinder and turbo. In addition we spend a little time on the hypercars of 2015 we all adore but few will touch.
Duncan and Jeff are in the podcast studio to cover all things motorspots. The pair have missed a few weekends of racing, as life gets in the way, but they couldn't miss chatting about this past weekend. It was, after all, the 24 Hours of Le Mans!
There's also talk of the past Indy 500, a slew of F1 races including Monaco and Baku, and the upcoming Indy Car calendar which sees the circus traveling to Road America.
Jeff is on the road, which means you get a shorty podcast today... but surprisingly not a drunk one. He's in Aspen where he just got done testing the new Jaguar XE and F-Pace. He's on his way to Phoenix to see how an automaker does its hot-weather testing, and then the following week he's checking a bucket list item off his travel list. It's time for the Goodwood Festival of Speed!
Also this week, there's talk of the Audi S8 Plus and the HoonTruck.
This week's episode wraps up our SEMA 2016 series of podcasts. This time Jason Connor and I are joined by good friends Mike Musto (/Drive, Big Muscle, Road & Track) and Larry Kosilla (AMMO Autocare, /Drive Clean, Drive+Protect). This was my final episode from the showfloor and we went out with a bang alongside my voice.
Grab a beer. Sit back. Enjoy yourself... as we once again dive headfirst into the world that is the YouTube comment section. It's time to walk through the minds of folks who should probably step back from their computers and take a breather.
In our penultimate SEMA 2015 episode Jason Conner (@TerminatorConn) and I sit down with Texas Speed and Performance. In easily one of my favorite episodes from SEMA we cover Taxas Speed's mail order tuning business, the evolution of their small block business, the Gen 6 Camaro, the Texas Mile, the realities of internet racing versus reality and what it takes to manufacture their own cylinder heads and camshafts.
Jeff and Chris are in the studio to talk random automotive BS. The topics include the new Camaro, a Fox Body Mustang with an LS V8, Lexus GS F, and some more YouTube comments.
Duncan Ende and Jeff sit down to recap the goings on in some of their favorite racing series. There was plenty of action in Formula One recently. IMSA was active and IndyCar was running at Barber the week prior. Duncan leads the way this week and we meander through motorsports madness in this Race Recap.
Jeff and Chris are joined in the studio by The Smoking Tire's own Zack Klapman. We talk about the new Clarion Builds Acura NSX, driving the latest Camaro SS, and that Zack and Jeff are going back to Drift School.
Also, Jeff and his family bought a new car. Tune in, listen up, and find out what that is on this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast
Duncan and Jeff are back for the second episode of the Race Recap. There was lots to cover as the prior weekend saw plenty of racing action. Formula 1 was in China and Rosberg continues to kick ass. Long Beach played host to IMSA, IndyCar, and the Pirelli World Challenge. Each race had its highlights and its lowlights, and the hosts dive into all of it on this fresh Race Recap
Aaron Gold returns on the show and we're also joined by Zack Klapman and Harrison Berdan. Talk in the news revolves around the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, Audi RS3, and then turns to the recent Formula Drift event in Long Beach.
That turns into Zack and Jeff talking about their Drift 101 experience, and how they're going back for more.
Jeff and Chris are joined in the studio by guests Aaron Gold (About.com) and Miles Branman (Digital Trends). The topics include some new car news:
After that, we get into how our guests got into the world of automotive journalism. Aaron got his start as an intern in the UK and Miles fell in with the Fast Lane Daily team. After that we meander through listener questions before a few updates on the truck and other things we've driven.
Friends from Jalopnik Andrew Collins and Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez join us in the podcast studio. The pair are fresh off a trip to Moab for the Easter Jeep Safari, and they've also got plenty to talk about besides freezing their asses off in Utah. We learn a bit about covering the Dakar rally, and dive into the insane driveway of Tavarish. There's a dash of news in the beginning before we descend into the madness.
We're back in the studio and it's time to dive into some new car news. The NY Auto Show is here, and there are a number of new rides to chat about. We chat about the Golf AllTrack, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, Jaguar F-Type SVR, and the fact that Koenigsegg will have a presence for the first time at a US Auto Show.
From there we move to a talk on the new Chevy Camaro ZL1 before diving into our own vehicles. Guest Joe Carioti has a heck of a fleet himself, and recently added a 2008 Saab 9-3 into the mix.
Finally, we take your social media questions before diverging on some final thoughts.
Welcome to the first Race Recap episode of the Hooniverse Podcast. Jeff is joined by racing driver Duncan Ende, and the two chat about what's going on in the world of motorsports over the prior weekend. The focus is mostly Pirelli World Challenge racing, as that's where Duncan spends his time right now. There are other bits of racing discussed, however, and there's a bit of chatter about regular road car things as well.
So jump on in to the first Race Recap episode!
Jeff is hosting solo today. He decides to spend his time heathily... by descending into the abyss of YouTube comments. Be warned all who enter here... there is no safety ahead.
Once again live from SEMA, this time Jason, Jon and I sit down and chat with the legendary Johh Hotchkis of Hotchkis Suspension fame.
We're back in the studio! Jeff and Chris finally cleared their hectic schedules to sit down and stare at each other for an hour. Thankfully, guest Zack Klapman is there to break up the awkwardness and regale us with tales of his car buying adventure.
So Jeff just got back from the 24 Hours of LeMons, and it's safe to say it didn't go as he'd hoped. The car was running far stronger than it had in its first race, according to his teammates. That's great news!
Unfortunately that pretty little car truck wouldn't stay pretty for long...
Rejoice all ye faithful, we're back with a semi-normal episode. Apologies for the SEMA glut, but Jeff and Chris have been slammed as of late. Rather than keep that train rolling, Jeff sat down to record a solo episode. No... this won't be like Scotland.
Instead, Jeff talks about driving the:
Additionally, the HoonTruck is back and running better than ever... and Jeff still managed to break something. Also, there's chatter regarding the EPA vs SEMA debacle, talk of an upcoming LeMons race, and a few answers to some social media questions.
Jon Klein and I sit down with Dinan from the Magnaflow booth at SEMA 2015. We talk about the new products coming to market, their push into the Middle East and Asia, favorite projects from years past and what to look for when picking up a second hand BMW.
In another episode of our SEMA 2015 series we sit down with Justin Atneyel from Weistec. Justin very graciously shared his extensive knowledge on the new Mercedes 4.0 liter turbo V8s, their impressive new transmissions and how Weistec takes the already fast AMG GT and makes it absolutely ludicrous.
Jeff and Chris are yappin' in the studio, and they're joined by Hooniverse Associate Editor Jason Connor and Friend of Hooniverse Rick Radcliffe. Jason is there because he returned the Million Mile Lexus to Matt Farah earlier in the day, and we wanted to hear his thoughts on his recent time spent with the Cadillac ATS-V.
Rick has on hand because he surprised Jeff by bringing the completed HoonTruck to the studio!
In another episode of our SEMA 2015 series I sit down with Jason Engel of Classic Recreations. We talk about their new CR1 Camaro that debuted at SEMA their Eleanor Mustangs the fabrication/custom business and the madness that is SEMA.
Jeff and Chris sit down and chat about CES for a moment before diving into other goodies like:
Just kidding about that last one... fuck politics.
Senior Features Editor of Motor Trend Jonny Lieberman joins the Hooniverse podcast in this episode. He's been a friend to Hooniverse since it began, and even before it all started really. We dive into that history here in episode 133, but not before we kick things off by diving headfirst into the world of beer.
We hope you like the bubbly suds because we wind up talking way more about beer than we do cars in this episode. Consider it a holiday treat
Get ready for an old school episode of the podcast. Jeff is in the studio with Chris and guest Zack Klapman from The Smoking Tire, and they kick it like they used to... there's a bit of news, then chatter about all manner of automotive goodness before the trio dive into what's going on with their own cars.
In another live episode from SEMA 2015 Jason Connor and I sit down with Bodie Stroud to talk business, fabrication and of course the outright melee that is SEMA.
This week we're joined by Founder and namesake of Scarbo Performance; Joe Scarbo. Scarbo builds an absolutely gorgeous Ferrari F1 repdroduction dubbed the SVF1 that is shockingly reasonable in cost and simply ridiculous in terms of performance. In addition Joe shares his background in suspension engineering for off-road, his beginning with Arciero Racing and a bevy of knowledge acquired in small scale manufacturing and fabrication.
In our second episode from Mountune we're joined by our friends Ken Anderson of Mountune, Jim Pierce of Pierce Motorsports and Hooniverse's own Pete Zilliox. We talk all things hot hatchbacks this episode. Ken and Jim share their inside knowledge of just how big the products of sales for the for ST line have been, along with their insight into the platforms and the realities of running an aftermarket parts company.
Jason Connor and I sit down with the boys from BBI Autosport and talk Porsches, chassis tuning, fox bodies and of cours the barrage of SEMA.
Chris is fresh back from Las Vegas and the SEMA show where he recorded 14 or 15 episodes(!). This isn't one of those episodes. Instead hosts Jeff and Chris are joined in the podcast studio by friend of the show Jonathon Klein, who also attended SEMA. The three chat about some of the rides in attendance, while also talking about what's coming up on the podcast over the next few weeks.
Jeff also gives a bit of insight into his recent Camaro road trip.
Hosts Jeff Glucker and Chris Hayes are taking a gander at the Acura NSX, as the first drive reports filter out. Friend of Hooniverse Alex Roy is talked up as he just finished a cross-country trip in a mostly autonomous Tesla Model S. The Mazda CX-3 proves to be a delightful little machine, and there's plenty to chat about regarding updates to the #HoonTruck.
Also, the guys answer some of your Facebook questions.
Chris and Jeff start talking about cars but wander off the automotive path a bit when the subject turns to video games. In this episode we prattle on about the new Civic, new Optima, Chris' Fiesta, and the Subaru Outback that Jeff is driving this week.
Jonathon Klein (@Jonathon_Klein) fills in this week while Jeff tends to his dog (not a euphamism). We discuss the newly unveiled BMW M2, how the ATS-V stacks up against it's teutonic competition in the form of the C63 S and M3, Jonathon gives us his take on the CTS-V, the future of the Z28 and GT350R are speculated upon and Jonathon takes the Fiesta ST project out for a test drive.
Mr. Regular and Roman himself join hosts Jeff and Chris in the podcast studio this week. It's a longer episode to make up for the two weeks we took off.
Let's not list what was discussed here... just hit play and ENTER THE WORLD OF MR. REGULAR
Tony Angelo joins us in the podcast studio this week, and listen up because the man knows how to drive and turn wrenches. Tony comes to California by way of the Philly and New Jersey. He is one of Drifting's pioneering drivers here in the States, and he started the Drift Alliance crew which continues to kick sideways ass to this day. Tony is currently the host of Hot Rod Garage on the Motortrend YouTube Channel, where his truck RollSmokey just got some sweet diesel life breathed into it.
This man is a lover of cars and we could've kept talking to him for hours... we'll have Tony back on soon.
Jeff and Chris are joined in the podcast studio by Mark Baruth. Yes, there is more than one of them out there, and Mark is the one with less facial hair and more musical talent it would seem. Mark is an editor at the Truth About Cars, and he's also written some content for Jalopnik. He's also the proud owner of a Ford Flex, Ford Mustang Boss 302, and a Ford Fiesta ST, and he's capable of wheeling all three quite well.
Our chatter this starts with talk of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk... and then it rambles all over the place from there.
Jeff Glucker, Chris Hayes, and Blake Rong are replaced for this episode with passable facsimilies in the form of Bradley Brownell, Jason Connor, and Cameron VanDerHorst of the Cammed & Tubbed podcast (also on Hooniverse.com every Friday morning at 7:30). We were joined by our interesting guest, Stef Schrader (@StefThePef on twitter) of BlackFlag and Jalopnik fame.
Discussion ranges from Jeff's Audi S7 and Jason's Audi A3 Cabriolet excursion out to El Mirage. Magnus Walker crashing his now-iconic #277. And we mourn the passing of Justin Wilson, a truly unique and genuinely enthusiastic motor racing driver.
In memoriam of Justin Wilson's passing we're re-running our April 2014 podcast with him.
While Jeff is out racing Miatas Mr. Jonathon Klein (@jonathon_klein) of Boldride joins me in studio to talk Pebble Beach. While still ailing from a broken shoulder Jonathon still managed to convince Bugatting to give him some seat time in a Veyron Gran Sporte Vitesse, in addition Jonathon gives us his take on the 2015 VW Touareg TDI. There was a lot unveiled at Pebble and we talk about the ubiquity of McLarens, Aston Martin's new DBX, the new M4 GTS concept (with water/meth injection), the M2, the much delayed Acura NSX and a comparison of the heavyweights in the hypercar realm, the Veyron, Koenigsegg 1:1 and the Hennessey Venom GT.
Pro Racer Duncan Ende joins us in the studio, exactly 100 episodes after he first hopped on the mic with us in episode 16. Ende is currently racing through the Pirelli World Challenge Season behind the wheel of a Ferrari 458 Italia GT3. There are three racing weekends left, so we're lucky to have Duncan stop by.
Alongside Duncan, friend of Hooniverse and BoldRide.com Editor Jonathon Klein swings by the studio. Klein was recently in a bit of a scrape of the two-wheel variety, and we chat about that for a bit.
Gale Banks is a man who knows what it takes for an engine to create power. He's been in the business of creating reliable and powerful engines for decades now, and the man has incredible stories to share. Gale was a guest awhile back on Episode 21 and now he's come back to share more of his wonderful insight and knowledge.
Banks is one of our favorite guests, and we could easily turn this into a three-hour podcast episode. Alas, it can't last forever and Gale had to run off to have dinner that evening with his good friend Syd Mead.
Yup, he's more fascinating than you even knew...
Host Jeff Glucker is back in the studio after an unexpected absence last week. He's joined by Producer Chris Hayes as the two kick it a bit old school and run down some new car news before diving into what they've been driving and what's going on with their own cars. What's the new car news? Well, a couple in Texas bought their 78th and 79th Dodge Vipers, and we think that's kind of dumb. A Tesla Model S owner lapped the 'Ring in 9:08 and we think that's kind of awesome.
In the motorsports world, there was a big win at the 24hrs of Spa for the MarcVDS racing team. We want to congratulate our friend Francois on the victory.
In our own personal news, Jeff tells the story of his weekend with the Lamborghini Huracan... and how one day turned from a standard video shoot into something so much more important.
This week Jason Connor (@TerminatorConn) and I are joined by Ken Anderson president of Mountune's (@mountune) US operations. For those unfamiliar Mountune is quickly becoming Ford's premier tuning partner and is providing aftermarket tuning support for the Focus and Fiesta platforms. We of course discuss their product offerings but we also touch upon the different demands of customers around the world, Mountune's history and we spend a substantial amount of time discussing Mountune's upcoming Mustang offerings.
On this episode of the podcast, you're getting a shorter On the Road bit. Host Jeff Glucker is in Minnesota to drive new Hyundai product, and he decided to fire up the microphone while he was sitting in his hotel room.
The chatter this time around ranges from what Jeff has been driving to thoughts of getting old...
This is the one where we say goodbye to co-host Blake Z. Rong. He's packing up his LA life and relocating to Austin, Texas. We're joined by guest Michael Banovksy, who is Managing Editor of Petrolicious. Additional, he's the auther of the book Weird Cars. Our chatter revolves around his own car history, how he got "into cars", and we dabble a bit in the world of Petrloicious.
After that, Jeff talks a bit about his Isle of Man TT experience before we all dive back to talk about some of our favorite episodes over the last 110 episode run.
Fair thee well Blake Z. Rong... we will keep your chair warm.
(with farts)
Alex Roy joins us in the podcast studio, which is filled with the whole gang this week. Our chatter ranges from the future of cars in general, some insight into the world of Morgans, and a bit of talk about cross-country records. This involves the real ones, and maybe ones that aren't quite as real. Alex is one of our favorite guests, so sit back and enjoy this one folks - it's a longer one, and it's a good one.
This week we're joined by friend of the podcast Abe Drimmer (former of Road & Track). We discuss the Forza 6 press launch event where Microsoft showed off its latest game and Ford brought a nearly produciton ready Focus RS and GT350 along with the halo car of the moment the Ford GT. In addition we cover the current shakeup at the Nurburging and the possible cessation of manufacturer testing along with some nostalgia of video games past.
It's a short episode this week, but it's an on-the-road episode.
This was recorded while Jeff was at the Nürburgring a few weeks back. He sat down in his hotel and spoke into the recorder for 20 minutes. No, this time it's not going to be like the Scotland podcast. While he swears he'll try to recreate that "magic" someday, today is not that day. Instead, here's a bit of insight into what went down on the first half of this trip.
This week Blake and I are joined by Jonathon Klein (@Jonathon_Klein) from Bold Ride. Jonathon and I recently attended the HRE Wheels open house with Jeff along with Jason Connor, Rick Radcliffe and Matt farah and spent the day making fun of tacky people and observing all manner of exotic and some rather less than exotic cars. The big news this week is that Blake now owns a reliable (hopefully) car in the form of a first gen Volkswagen CC. We also cover car fires, Jaguars, nipple rings and McMercs.
Our guest this week is Kevin McCauley, who is a photographer with an eye for making cars look really good. The podcast format runs old school this week as we start with a bit of new car chatter. Up for discussion is:
From there we learn a bit more about Kevin's world before finding out how everyone's vehicles are doing.
This week Herr Glücker returns from the fatherland and regales us with tales of Aston Martins, Nordeschleifes and Toyoda's. In addition we're accompanied by Rick Radcliffe and Jason Connor strong auxillary members of the Hooniverse podcast. We talk cars, we meander, quote the Simpsons and likely make people a littel uncomfortable but we're OK with that.
Our friend Matt D'Andria (@Motorator) cohost of Carcast alongside Adam Carolla swings by to tell us about their new movie "Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman". We of course cover a lot of ground on the Newman front however we also get into Matt's very ambitious 93 Cobra project, how Matt got into the podcast world and a little inside baseball on the subject of press fleets.
This week Blake and I are left to our own devices as Jeff makes his way back to "the old country" to spend some quality time with Aston Martin. Meanwhile Blake and I wax poetic on mechanical engineering, the realities of apartment living and remote California locales. Additionally Blake reviews the Mercedes SL550 and we try to figure out what he should replace his now defunct Miata with.
We're 102 episodes old now, which means we're tired. Hence the short episode...
Blake tells us about life at the Petersen, I tell you about life with my truck, and Chris has no voice.
Zack Klapman from the Smoking Tire and AJ Gordon from The Petersen Museum join host Jeff Glucker and producer Chris Hayes in the podcast studio. In this episode we learn what it's like to drive an old truck in a city filled with new cars. Also, Zack tells us about some of the stuff DRIVE has been up to, including the recent Middle East TV special, and AJ talks a bit more about what's going on at the Petersen.
Oh and the first few minutes we talk about beer instead of cars... ENJOY!
So it wouldn't be a Hooniverse podcast without the potential for audio issues... and that's what you get to celebrate episode 100!
Our guest this week is AJ Gordon who is the Content & Social Media Manager for the Petersen Museum. He's also the host of the great Car Stories podcast, which has tons of guests. Our chatter this week revolves around what we've done over the past 100 episodes, the new Paul Newman biopic, and also what's going on with HoonTruck and Blake's Miata.
Additionally, we dive into what it's like to work at the Petersen and focus on a crowd-funding project the museum is taking on. It's to revive a one-of-17 Davis Divan. If you're interested in learning more and possibly helping out, check out their IndieGoGo page.
Hosts Jeff and Blake and Producer Chris as joined by Zack Klapman from The Smoking Tire. The chatter this time around centers on the new Furious 7 movie, joining the cult of Harbor Freight, and then what we plan on doing for episode 100. There's also a bit of light HoonTruck and Miata news.
As a heads up, after episode 100 we're heading out to the Alibi Room in Los Angeles. We'll record on Monday the 13th, then head over for a few drinks and some grub around 8pm. If you're in the area, come say hi and join us!
On this episode, we dive right into talk about Blake's Miata. He's about 300 miles into the 500-mile break-in period of the new engine. From there it's some talk of my truck and Chris' Fiesta before we move on to the world of New Cars.
Oh and stay tuned for more information on a potential get together after episode 100
In this episode hosts Blake and Jeff are initially joined by producer Chrisy Hayes before taking a brief break and returning with Friends of Hooniverse Cory Burns and Zack Klapman.
We talk about Blakes Miata, my HoonTruck, and the 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Supercharged that I'm driving this week... and then shit gets real.
Mad real.
Jeff, Blake, and Chris are all together again for the first time in over a month. It's a spring-time miracle!
Our guest this week is Hooniverse's own Jason Connor, who serves as the camera car driver and occasional editor of cool car stuff. We briefly chat about some new car news but then drive into what we've been driving and our own car chatter.
This includes talk about the McLaren 650S Spider, Corvette Z06, Jason's two fords, Blake's Miata, Chris' own Ford, and Jeff's HoonTruck.
This week Blake and I are joined by Ben Hsu founder of Japanese Nostalgic Car. We of course cover all manner of bygone japanese motoring but we also touch on Miata rotaty conversions, Fiesta projects, bad action movies, Ayn Rand fashioned distopias and why Blake's mom loves DSM cars.
With Jeff out of town and Blake writhing in agony from "the fevers" Zack and I were left with little recourse but to sit down with our friend and all around Hoontastic yobo Corbin Goodwin. Many of you likely know Corbin from the "Zero Fucks Given" RX-7, the Jettamino and most recently his drift Rolls. Beyond those projects we talk about Corbin's day job of driving for Lyft, the mertis of rotary engines, general lust for inline 6 cylinder engines, why Audis generally suck and myriad other topics.
This week former Hooniverse producer and frequent contributor Zack Klapman joins us with tails from New Zealand. The Smoking Tire film crew recently embarked on a lengthy trip to kiwi-land that stretched the across much of the country and brought a variety of highly modified and custom built cars.
The Ring Brothers are in town to show off their latest award-winning creation known as Recoil. While they're out West, they've been kind enound to jump into the podcast palace. Mike and Jim Ring stop by to chat about how they got started and what they have in store for the future. Also, they brought beer.
(Check out a pic of the Recoil here, courtesy of our friend Leo from CnC Pics)
While Recoil is amazing and the upcoming all-carbon-fiber Mustang Fastback sounds outrageous, we might just be most interested in the busted-ass Winnebageo that the crew have turned into something special.
We've been busy... this week Blake and I go in depth into the 2015 Lexus RC F, Chevy Colorado and Chevy Trax while also covering the newly announced Focus RS, Ferrari 488 GTB and Porsche Cayman GT4. In addition we also talk about Blake's quality time spent with the current Aston Martin lineup and my most recent purchase; a 2015 Fiesta ST.
This week Blake and I decided to record an episode inside the 2015 Ford F150 Ecoboost whilst venturing to the wilds of deep Corona California to pick up his freshly built Miata engine. This week we cover the Ford GT, Buick's lack of direction, chassis stiffening, mid-engine Corvettes, the Mercedes SLS + AMG GT all under the veil of imminent road rage.
Please excuse some tapping noise at the very end of the episode as our microphone mount became loose.
Host Jeff Glucker and Producer Chris Hayes dive into some new car chatter. One of the main topics is the subject of the future of hot rodding, and how Jeff believes it will be about electric cars, coding, and drive-by-wire adjustments.
Additionally, there's news of a purchase for the Hooniverse family. A new project car is arriving, and you can learn more about it by listening in.
OPEN YOUR EARS AND LET US TAKE THEM!
Jeff and Blake are back in the old-school Podcast Palace of Love in this episode, and there's a lot to talk about. The 2015 Detroit Auto Show just took place and the reveals were pretty awesome. Ford killed it, Buick surprised everyone with a lovely concept, and a handful of other automakers showed some great products.
Beyond the new car news, Blake has a bit of news of his own. He's got a new gig, and it's pretty damn perfect for him.
The holidays are over, which means it's time to get back to work. Host Jeff Glucker is joined by producer Chris Hayes to chat about what they've been up to. Also, it's time to dive into some new car news before we take a lookat our own cars.
As you know the Civic Si is gone, and Jeff talks about what he's looking to find to replace the Honda. He's going in quite a different direction.
Friend of Hooniverse Matt Farah (The Smoking Tire) comes on to tell us all about his latest acquisition; that 900,000-mile Lexus LS400. Also, Richard Radcliffe is back on and he just bought Jeff's Civic!
We talk about some of the recent cars we've driven while also learning a bit about Lemon Law vehicles.
It's a holiday edition of The Hooniverse Podcast, so ignore your family and listen in!
Our guest this week is renowned comedy writer, car lover, and Fox talk-show all-star Spike Feresten. You may know him from his work providing the funny to shows like Saturday Night Live, Late Night and The Late Show with David Letterman, and Seinfeld, as well as many other programs.
Now Spike is using his love of cars to help folks find the perfect automotive match. His show is called Car Matchmaker, and it runs on Esquire. Feresten shows folks a variety of cars that he thinks would be the ideal fit for them, and this can range from a new Mercedes-Benz GLK to a Buick Grand National.
On the latest episode of Car Matchmaker, Spike's brother turns to him for help. Feresten gets a helping hand from Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Fallon, Will Forte, and Seth Meyers in the first hour-long episode of Car Matchmaker. It's a show that perfectly bridges the automotive gap between enthusiasts and normal folk who don't obsess over all-things automotive.
You'll laugh, you'll cry... actually, if you cry you probably have some other issue, because you should just laugh.
Our guest today is Daniel Cudmore. He's a rather tall actor who hails from Canadia, and you've seen him recently as Colossus in three of the past X-Men films. Cudmore also happens to love cars, which means he's ONE OF US.
His automotive past includes a handful of Subarus, two or three Audis, and an old K5 Blazer that was used to ram a camper van.
Hooniverse Credentials: Approved.
Carlos Lago is a man who drives man amazing machines... but the one that is currently providing him the most thrills happens to be his own project Nissan 240SX. That's because it has a LS3 crate motor that's making 430 horsepower. His car is fast, and it enjoys going fast in both straight lines and sideways as well.
Oh, he also plays host on the Motor Trend channel when he's not churning out stories and reviews for the print side. He's also our guest on episode 83 of the Hooniverse podcast.
Host Jeff Glucker is joined by guest Mike Satterfiled who is the Creative Director behind The Gentleman Racer and MP Speed Shop clothing. Satterfield is also in charge of drumming up drivers for the Rally Historico Transpeninsular, which is a road rally for pre-1973 vehicles that starts in Tijuana and runs down to Cabo San Lucas.
The chatter ranges from the rally and Mike's companies, as well as his stable of vehicles. These include a classic Mini that rocks a camo wrap, and a 1967 Ford Fairlane in full Gul colors. We also talk about some new car news and chat about SEMA some more as well.
This might be the most juvenile start we've ever had...
This is episode 81 of the podcast and we discuss SEMA rides, Zack's Crown Vic, and Jeff provides some updates to his project cars; both the Civic and the Wombat.
Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong head into the Podcast Business Office to prattle on about cars. The main topic of the evening is Rong's recent participation in the Audi A3 TDI Mileage Challenge. He was tasked with driving from Albuquerque, New Mexico to San Diego... on one tank of diesel fuel. That's 824 miles of driving required. That's damn near impossible, but two teams managed to pull it off.
From there the talk moves to the recent Motor Press Guild Track Day event, where Glucker got seat time in a variety of vehicles out at Willow Springs.
Blake Z. Rong and Jeff Glucker are back together to chat about all things automotive. Rong has been off doing famous journalist things, while Jeff has been roughing it with super cars. Now though, Glucker is driving... a taxi.
Also, the gang falls back into the old format with some new car chatter at the beginning before digressing into covering anything their tiny brains can think up.
Jeff Glucker and Chris Hayes step back into the original podcast palace of love for Episode 78. Blake Z. Rong is off doing professional automotive writer things on the other side of the country.
Topics range from a few favorites revealed at the Paris Motor Show, to Volvos new crazy concept turbo motor, and on to a few things we've driven recently. These include the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, and a few other machines.
Also, Jeff digresses towards the end and talks about a time when he got really drunk...
Rather than take a week off, Hooniverse host Jeff Glucker decided to knock out a 30 minute episode from the cozy confines of his own house. It's just Jeff this week as he prattles on about all sorts of random car goodness. Glucker recently drove the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Roadster as well as the Vanquish Volante, he then mixed it up and stepped up even further by spending a weekend with the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster.
The chatter ranges from the aforementioned cars to the results of the Lightning Lap, some talk of the new Viper, and even a bit about the Subaru Legacy 3.6R.
This week Blake and I are joined by Elana Scherr (@challengeher) and Brandon Gillogly of Hot Rod magazine while Jeff basks in the luxury of Southern California traffic. This week we talk about time spent at the Chrysler press event which included seat time in the Alfa Romeo 4C, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, Viper and Blake spent a little quality time with the new BMW M4. In addition Elana and Brandon fill us in on Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week and Engine Masters competitions.
The boys are all back in town (minus one Zatch Crapman), and that means it's time to catch up on everything that they've all been up to. Blake got to check out the new ND Miata in Monterrey, and he also drove a Zero SR electric motorcycle to the podcast palace. Meanwhile, Jeff just spent a weekend with the 2014 Dodge Viper, and was also down in Baja to check out the new BFGoodrich KO2 tire.
After that, the talk moves to ... well, the normal nonsense and digressions that you've come to expect.
Jeff Glucker is on the road again, and he's reporting in after spending some time in NY and Virginia. Glucker was up in NY to sample the all-new Lexus RC F, and then hopped on a plane to Virginia to sample some Volkswagen goodness.
This is a special shorty episode, as it's an On The Road Again episode.
This week we reunite with an old friend Mr. Alex Roy. Alex and Blake are both fresh back from Pebble Beach where they experience all manner of automotive obscura. Blake regales us with his story of riding his Moto Guzzi to Pebble while pailing in comparison to the epic journeys of George Egloff. Alex shares his experience with Jerry Wiegert of Vector fame. Blake reviews the A3, CLA and Alfa 4C we discuss the merits of Chris Bangle's BMW designs, abysmal Viper sales, Ferrari's GT cars and of course Alex's Morgan 3 Wheeler.
This week Zach Bowman a.k.a. The Ginger Fox (@Z_Bowman) of Road & Track joins Blake and myself on his way to Pebble Beach. We discuss the impossibly slow motorcycle journey he and Blake are about to embark on Jaguars, home built 3 wheelers, the Big Book of British Smiles, Miatas, Mitsubishi Evolutions and of course Zach's famous Project Ugly Horse.
It's time for another special episode from the road. This is the one you've heard Jeff talking about, where he is in Scotland, in a castle, on loch ness... drunk.
Have at it!
Jeff Glucker and Blake Z Rong are joined by Matt Farah. You know Farah from The Smoking Tire, /DRIVE, his handful of appearances on this very podcast, and now, /DRIVE+.
The crew dive right into it to learn about the move to a subscription-based platform for the /DRIVE video series. It's a fascinating topic right up until we're interrupted by a rather fascinating person coming into The Smoking Tire offices. Bucky Lasek temporarily stops the proceedings as Blake and Jeff go mega-fanboy for a moment.
Things get back on track and Farah tells us more about the /DRIVE+ move. He has to leave to attend to Mr. Lasek (who is appearing on TST later in the evening), so Blake, Jeff, and Producer Chris get into their own cars and what they're driving to finish off the show.
Guest Abe Drimmer joins hosts Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong in the podcast palace. Topics range from a meager power bump for the Viper on to the introduction of the all-new Polaris Slingshot. The Mad Max Fury Road trailer comes up, as does the Infiniti Eau Rouge, which has been recently tested in prototype form by a small handful of folks.
From there we delve into a sad update on Blake's Miata and a happy update on Jeff's Civic.
This week Jeff is out of town and leaves Blake and myself to our own devices. We deliver a number of tangents cleverly disguised as segments including...
For the first time in a long time, the whole crew is back together. Hosts Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong are joined by both producers, Chris Hayes and Zack Klapman. This means they dive right into what everyone has been up to, which means a wide range of car adventures. Blake recently returned from the same Nashville-based Nissan event that Jeff spoke about last week, Zack was driving all over the country for a few different things includeing an IMSA race and a country-wide Rally, and Jeff's prepping for a few more adventures.
The talk changes to what we've been driving, which includes the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, and a few other machines old and new.
So we're trying something new today. Jeff is reporting in from the road, as he's traveled to Nashville, TN to sample the entire Nissan lineup. After a day of driving, Jeff sits down to let you know how the cars were, about a few special gems that were available to drive, and what he's got coming up when he gets back home.
He's also easily distracted by the chick in the AT&T commercial...
We may occasionally rant against all-things BMW on this podcast, but deep in our dark hearts there lies a soft spot for the Bavarian beasts. This seems to be the case for Jeremy Whittle and Jason Seaver, because the pair are part of a company called Bavsound. Essentially, Bavsound is an audiophile haven aimed at making BMW vehicles a better place to listen to music.
Hosts Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong dive right into the chatter with the Bavsound crew to get the low down on all things automotive audio. We learn that Pink Floyd can make you cry under the right circumstances, paper speakers aren't terrible, and factory systems can always be improved upon.
Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong are back together in the podcast palace of love. The main subject for episode 64? Banged up, clapped-out, project cars.
Blake's Miata... is dead.
Jeff's Civic... is dead.
Listen in and found out what's going on with both cars, before the two hosts ultimately diverge into a series of weirder and weirder tangents.
Zack Klapman from /DRIVE and The Smoking Tire joins me for Episode 63 of the Hooniverse Podcast. We have no agenda this evening, but our conversations surround two main topics.
Oh, and I digress to talk about an awesome snowboarding documentary called The Crash Reel. It's seriously good... just like this episode of the podcast.
Stop stalling and make the leap to listen to Episode 63.
Antti is still in California so we have him back on board for a second round of podcast pleasure. Jeff returns to host the party with guest Antti joined by producer Chris Hayes.
The chatter pretty much just focuses on Antti's trip to the states. He's been roadtripping in a 2014 Dodge Challenger RT Blacktop, and then we had him switch into a Ram 3500 HD Dually (MWUAHAHAHAHA).
What did he do with the truck? Apparently he went to Walmart and bought American flags... seriously.
This week we welcome Hooniverse contributor and 1980s culture afficianado Antti Kautonen (@julkinen) to the podcast palace. Antti has traveled all the way from Suomi Finland for his very first visit to the states where he was welcomed by the 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T. In this episode we spend an inordinate amount of time discussing french hot hatches, scandinavian hot rodding, semi obscure GM V6 engines, and why Finns love Camaros.
This week Jeff Glucker is joined by podcast producers Chris Hayes and Zack Klapman.
Zack just got back from Europe where he is now a field producer with the /DRIVE team. The big news, of course, being that /DRIVE will be appearing on NBC Sports. Klapman talks a bit about his journey across the pond.
Chris recently bought a scooter, and we dive into that a bit as well.
New car chatter involves the new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, GM woes, and ... something that isn't a car at all, but a plane. There's a bit of info on the Civic and also the Wombat as well. Listen in and enjoy!
Here are the notes I've been given for this episode of the Hooniverse Podcast. The guests this week are the fine folks behind Regular Car Reviews.
This is basically an insane persons brain... unraveling:
?As weird as that list looks, it's actually quite clear that these guys should be running Hooniverse...
It's so bad, we had to title the episode in its honor.
The guest this week is George Notaras, better known as Moto Man and he's back for more. Blake is in charge because Jeff has a mega fever. The talk roams between NY Auto Show follow up chatter and a whole bunch of other automotive randomness.
It's time for another episode of the Hooniverse Podcast.
Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong are joined by a legend in the automotive industry, Kurt Antonius. This is the man who single handedly formed a PR division for Honda. He was there for all of the important vehicle launches along the way, was a major part of the creation of Acura, and also helped the marketing and PR efforts for Honda Performance Development and the IndyCar program.
To say that he's had an important career is an understatement, and we wish we could share the off-the-record stuff... what you hear on the podcast is pretty damn entertaining though too.
Host Jeff Glucker heads to New York for the 2014 New York International Auto Show. He brings the podcast palace to the big apple party, and he's joined by guests Kamil Kaluski of Hooniverse, Patrick George of Jalopnik.com, and George Kennedy of Bold-Ride.com and the Boston Globe. Of course, the intial chatter is related to some of the new cars being shown in NYC, however it eventually changes and the group talks about some stuff they've driven recently... and The Freedom Top.
IndyCar driver Justin Wilson joins Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong in the podcast palace. The chatter dives right into the world of motorsports, of which Justin is a prominent figure. He's won at nearly every level in which he's competed, and he's now gunning for a strong showing in the 2014 Indy season.
Eventually we talk about some non racing bits, including the NSX, which Jeff can't stop talking about.
If you're a fan of motorsports, this will be our greatest podcast episode ever. If you're not, it's still pretty damn awesome.
Video Game journalist Garnett Lee joins host Jeff Glucker and producer Chris Hayes in the podcast palace. They start by talking about Lee's 2013 Porsche Boxster, and then move on to other fun cars. Eventually, however, the chatter turns to talk of video games... but it gets back on track with cars when Garnett wants to talk about the 2005 Acura NSX that Jeff is driving this week.
This week Jeff leaves Blake and I to our own devices and that of course means things goes awry. We spend a little time talking about the Dinan BMW 1M, Mazda's new vision for the Miata, Blake is driving the Dragon Jeep, the death of the Mitsubishi Evolution and we get nostalgic via a few tangents.
Guest Brendan McAleer joins hosts Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong on the podcast palace couch for this round of "LETS TALK ABOUT CARS, and other stuff, too!"
The gang chats about the new Subaru WRX and STI, including the fact that the CVT might actually work well in the WRX. Also, we welcome back some good beer into the palace thanks to Brendan. Finally, the topic of Singer comes up and we daydream about other vehicles that they should apply their meticulous treatment too.
After lots of traveling, Blake and Jeff are finally together again. Huzzah!
Blake just drove the Dinan-tuned BMW 1M, a 450HP mouse that is apparently quite good. Jeff went to drive the new Audi A3, learned how to build an engine, and has a very cool update on his Civic.
Blake Z. Rong and Jeff Glucker are back together in the podcast palace... well actually, there at the Smoking Tire podcast palace to record the 50th episode of the Hooniverse Podcast.
The main topics range from a variety of Geneva Motor Show rides to the interesting things Blake and Jeff have driven recently. This includes an Acura NSX that Blake gets to spend a week with... and Jeff is driven insane with jealousy by this notion.
Blake Z. Rong is the man in charge for this one, because Jeff Glucker is off galavanting in Colorado. Guest co-host Zack Klapman and Mr. Rong are joined by the general manager of the west coast offices of Gotham Dream Cars Nick Bailey.
First they talk about the new WRX and STI. Zack, being a former STI owner, had a lot to say. Blake sternly touches on his Kia press car, and Zack talks about the magic of the A8 L diesel's radar cruise control. The guys drool over the Lotus motorcycle, and then Nick epxlains what it was like driving a gigantic truck in Texas.
They also discussed various hyper car designs, spurred by the question, "Would Enzo Ferrari like the Enzo Ferrari?"
Our friend Bill Caswell swings by the podcast palace to spend a few minutes talking up his recent adventure taking in the King of the Hammers. After that, Podcast Producer Chris Hayes and host Jeff Glucker dive into some general car chatter. The topics range from Jeff's recent drive of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI to Hayes' recent flings with both the Chevrolet SS and the Jaguar XFR-S.
Additionally, we talk about some of the more interesting automotive adventures we have coming up. From driving Aston Martins on ice to spending a weekend with a Morgan 3 Wheeler.
Our guest this week is Road & Track Multimedia Editor Chris Cantle. He's a delightful chap who's rather brilliant with a camera, conned his bosses into spending money on a Miata with 320,000 miles, and was the person riding shotgun when Mad Man Higgins put a Subaru WRX STI rally car sideways on the Isle of Man.
If anyone has some stuff to chat about, it's Mr. Cantle... or Cant-luh as we prefer to say it.
This week Blake and I met up with Pete Brock a the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Through the course of our conversation we touch upon all the obvious high points of his career such as the Daytona Coupé, the original Corvette Stingray and his time with Datsun/Nissan. In addition to that we learn about Pete's new race trailer business, his admiration of Horacio Pagani's work and his love for Baja racing.
Hosts Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong sit down with Matt Farah to chat about all things automotive. Topics in episode 45 range from some of Farah's latest TUNED vehicles, including a pair of delightful Miatas, to the new Chevrolet SS and the Corvette Stingray Convertible.
Blake also talks about how much he hates the Scion tC he is currently driving. He's not very kind to the car...
Additional topics include the recent Mecum auction, and some upcoming adventures that will prove for quite interesting podcast fodder in the weeks to come.
Our guest is Jalopnik.com's own Jason Torchinksy. This fine gent is a lover of all things automobile, including the obscure vehicles that are quite at home within The Hooniverse. We dive into a bit of new car discussion since Jason just drove the new BMW M235i, but we eventually get into the topic of Jason's beloved Beetle.
It was stolen from him, and then rather quickly recovered thanks to some seriously skilled Internet sleuths. It's a great story, and it has a happy ending.
The band is back together, as Blake Z. Rong and Jeff Glucker are back in podcast action. This week it's time to chat about all things Detroit Auto Show as there have been a whole lot of interesting vehicles being revealed. This includes the Cadillac ATS Coupe, Toyota FT-1, Lexus RC-F, and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
Additionally, we learn that Blakes Miata is busted, Jeff's Civic isn't going anywhere at the moment, and that the wagon needs serious steering help. Blake also talks about hanging out with Pete Brock at CES in Las Vegas.
Host Jeff Glucker is joined by Zack Klapman from The Smoking Tire and guest Travis Langness from Edmunds.com. The chatter quickly gets into some new car news with discussions on the new Chevrolet Corvette and its optional Video Data Recorder, the leaked Chrysler 200, and the Camaro Z/28. Additionally we dive into a Top Ten Future Classics list created by Hagerty, which we quickly rip apart.
From there we learn a bit more about Travis and his oh so wonderful access to the Edmunds long-term fleet of test vehicles, including their latest acquisition which is a CL65 AMG.
Blake Z. Rong is off to the East Coast practicing his winter V-School skills while visiting family. So that means Jeff Glucker is running the show and his guest this week is Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire.
This is the last podcast of 2013, even though it is coming to you on the first day of the new year. It's been a great year, and we're happy to share our last recording of the year with our friend Matt.
Farah goes into detail discussing his latest purchase; a long awaited DeLorean. It's a wonderful machine, and he's head over heels in love with the gull-winged wonder. Other topics include... well, a whole lot of randomness. Dive in with your ears!
We have so much to talk about this week, so we wind up rambling way off topic on all of our topics. Blake Z. Rong can't join us on the podcast palace so instead we have producers Zack Klapman and Chris Hayes sitting down to chat all things automotive.
Zack had to suffer with a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster this week, and Jeff is in the process of picking up a Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corsa as you listen to this. Clearly they are both very important people.
Other topics include the new BMW M3/M4, the redesigned Mercedes-Benz C-Class, John Hennessey taking a C7 Corvette up to 200 miles per hour, and many other items.
Blake Zoidberg Rong kicks off Episode 39 and then they dive right into the launch of the 2015 Ford Mustang. From there the talk devolves into chatter about the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited DRAGON Edition. Additionally, Jeff Glucker talks about driving the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S on a track, and oddly loving the Chevrolet Impala with the 3.6-liter V6.
Also, the crew has to talk about Paul Walker. Blake met him at Willow Springs and Glucker spent 40 minutes with him on top of Pikes Peak. The question is why everyone is so affected, and they try to find out why.
This week Jeff and Blake sit down with "Maximum" Bob Lutz former head of global product development at General Motors (among many other titles and accomplishments). Inflation, sporting sedans, the VL Destino and BMWs current direction are all discussed however Bob's insight into the future of automotive and the nature of the modern enthusiast is particularly noteworthy. All that and more on this episode of the Hooniverse podcast.
This week we bring you a special episode of the Hooniverse podcast live from the XBox One launch party in Hollywood with our guest Dan Greenawalt from Turn 10 Studios. Dan is the creative director behind the Forza Motorsport series and talks to us about building the new game and what we can expect to see out of the new XBox One hardware.
In another installment from SEMA we sit down with Cameron Evans VP/COO of Red Line Oil. We of course cover all manner of automotive lubrication but also the madness that is SEMA and Cameron's racing experience.
This week Larry Kosilla über detailer and Managing Director of AMMO NYC joins the newly reunited Hooniverse crew at SEMA 2013. Given Larry's background we of course discuss detailing, how he got started and what it's like working on some of the world's most expensive and exotic vehicles. Additionally we touch on Larry's Porsche 911 project, Jeff updates us on "The Wombat" and Blake schleps a crazy cart to Vegas.
We're live from the SEMA show floor with a legend in suspension design, John Hotchkis.
Operating on very little sleep this week I sit down with Blake and we discuss the new Mercedes C Class, we admonish BMW for diluting their brand and Blake talks about his time with Bob Lutz and the demise of Pontiac. In addition I tested about a billion cars with the YouTube /Drive crew as summarised below.
On this episode of the Hooniverse podcast Blake and I discuss our time spent at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo event. Blake made his way out to the Mercedes press day, where he had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the SLS AMG Black, E63 AMG, C63 AMG 507 and CLA45 AMG. We talk infotainment design and user interfaces. And to round things out we cover the upcoming hypercar wars pitting the McLaren P1, Porsche 918, La Ferrari and the Koenigsegg Agera R against one-another.
Once again Jeff is traveling so that leaves you with Mr. Blake Zapfino Rong and myself (Chris Hayes). In this episode the tangent filled ramblings of The Smoking Tire Podcast take effect as Blake attempts to put me back on point. We discuss the BMW 3 & 4 series, Cadillac ELR & CTS, Mercedes CLA, Mazda's new design language, the Alfa Romeo 4C and how the Mustang and Camaro match up in base form. Additionally we tackle such hard hitting subjects as sex on a motorcycle, the new reality show Revved Up while I find plenty of time to share my disdain for Florida and Chrysler. So download, listen, laugh, cry and maybe shed a tear for episode 31 of the Hooniverse Podcast.
The Hooniverse Podcast just turned 30... that means we have to straighten up, fly right, and act our age.
Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong don't though. They're incapable of doing so, and this episode clearly demonstrates that. The duo are back together after way too much traveling. Blake was doing his famous automotive journalist thing while Jeff was off attempting to be a famous automotive journalist.
Being pack at full strength in the podcast palace means the talk starts with beer, then on to new cars, before we delve into older machines. We talk about the Koenigsegg One:1, the Tesla Model S fire, driving a three-on-the-tree 1954 Ford Ranch Wagon, and how a Jaguar E-Type can change ones perspective on life.
Alex Kierstein (@HanSolex) of Road & Track joins Blake and myself (Chris) while Jeff galavants about the country filming classic cars. Between the three of us the conversation becomes an esoteric assembly of automotive jargon accented by the occassional and often poorly constructed piece of base humor. That aside, Alex and Blake both of whom work for major print publications have access to an obscene number of vehicles. I have nothing funny to follow up with because frankly the list is rather impressive, here's are some of the vehicles we cover.
This week on Hooniverse, we replace Jeff Glucker with a man-boy who is living the dream: race car driver Kenton Koch. He's 19 year-old engineering student who's as tall as a control tower, but somehow fits into a Mazda Miata cup car, and wins.
We talk with him about chasing championships, university Formula SAE programs, and how to go fast.
Also, Blake talks if driving many Dodges, and Zack Klapman tells the tale of the Silver State Open Road Challenge and a JCW Mini Cooper.
Blake Z. Rong is absent this episode but have no fear because we've got a guest to take his place. Skip Essma from TRD joins us in the podcast palace. He's the Senior Vehicle Dynamics Engineer so he knows his chassis and suspension setups.
We chat about some new car bits, including the recent news and vehicle reveals out of Frankfurt. Soon though we dive into exactly what Skip does, we talk racing, and we also talk sweet sweet beer.
Podcast producer Chris Hayes also joins in on the fun with some great talking points.
Hosts Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong join forces with guest The Smoking Tire's Matt Farah to bring about podcast pleasure. As usual, it's a discussion of all things automotive that usually delves into bits of random insanity.
Matt points out that Jeff sounds like the guy from Noah's Arcade, and we run off the rails right from the outset. We also invite a new business called King Tire. If you steal it, we'll cut you.
Blake brings good beer for a change, and we delve into new cars before getting to the good stuff like we always do.
We're back at full strength! Jeff Glucker and Blake Z. Rong are both together again after a rigorous month of traveling, staying in luxury hotels, and eating expensive food. Also, we drove some cars.
Our guest is Ezekiel Wheeler, formerly of European Car and about to start a new life at Petrolicious. Wheeler needs to buy an old car now that he works for Petrolicious, and we help him decide. Also, we go into a discussion on design because that's what Ezekial is passionate about.
Blake regales with his Seven and S7 roadtrip, while I discuss how awesome the Jaguar F-Type V8S actually is. On top of all of that, we've heard your compaints and comments about the audio issues and we've vowed to fix them. From now on, it's microphones from here on out so you get the best sound possible.
This "episode" is just relaying a quick message.
Jeff and Blake have both been on the road for the better part of a month and will be returning this week. That means we'll be back to recording in the studio and the podcast will resume normal operations. The next episode will be released on Wednesday September 4th.
I'd also like to address the comments we've received regarding audio quality. Given the afformentioned travel we've needed to record outside of our normal location and without our usual equipment. This is changing immediately, we will avoid recording field pieces without our normal equipment and we definitely will not be doing another episode where one of our hosts is on Skype using hotel wifi.
Thanks again for listening, we'll be back next week.
-Chris
Jeff and Blake have been traveling A LOT, as a matter of fact heir Glücker is still on the road. This predicament necessitated bringing in outside talent (and I use that term loosely) Hooniverse producers Zack Klapman and Chris Hayes step in an attempt to fill the deafening void left in Jeff's absences and talk with everybody's favorite co-host Blake. This week topics mostly revolve around Pebble Beach and the ensuing road trips. Blake and Zack both got some seat time in a brand new Jaguar F-Type, while the lucky bastard Zack got to spend some quality time with the C7 Corvette. All that and more of the usual vaguely on-topic banter you've come to love.
Wheels make the world go round... or something like that. It makes sense then that we're excited to have Alan Peltier on the podcast. He's the president of HRE Wheels, which produce what many consider to best the best rollers on the planet. Those people who consider that are correct, by the way.
Other topics include the Infiniti G37 sedan versus Q50 sales issue, why buying a new Ferrari doesn't mean you get a chance to buy the halo Ferrari, and a few other bits of new car news. From there we turn to Jeffs' seething jealous because Blake is off to Germany to drive a Porsche Panamera Turbo at the 'Ring.
Since it IS the Hooniverse Podcast, we also talk about beer... and Alan brought some damn good stuff!
We've hit the big time folks... our guest today is Gale Banks, the man behind many a powerful engine. Gale joins Jeff Glucker and Blake Z Rong in the podcast palace to talk about some new car news, engines, Mike Ryan's FRIGHTLINER (trademark pending), and his awesome V8-inspired home that is being built.
Listen in as Gale spills decades of insight, knowledge, and just plain wins over the heart of one Blake R. Rong.
Blake treks down to Huntington Beach to casa de Jeff for episode 20. It's a low-key anniversary episode brought to you from Jeff's backyard. Topics include the demise of the M3 coupe, the rise of the Jaguar XFRS Sportbrake, and the fact that there actually is a 2014 Evo and it has received its pricing.
Since we're recording from my back yard, you can hear the delightful ocean breeze, random kids shouting in the background, and Jeffs stuffy nose... because he's sick. The show must go on though folks.
Additionally, Blake makes fun of Jeffs weiners and we talk about what they've driven and are about to drive.
