Perfect Organism is the premier Alien Saga podcast on the internet. New episodes drop every other Tuesday!
The podcast Perfect Organism: The Alien Saga Podcast is created by Perfect Organism Podcast, Bleav. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
In this episode, Perry, Patrick, and Jaime sit down with Alien: Romulus creature performer Trevor Newlin for a deep dive into his incredible work. From undergoing a full-body scan to stepping into a legacy pioneered by Bolaji Badejo, Trevor shares the fascinating process of bringing the film’s terrifying creature to life. He takes us behind the scenes of making a film on the scale of Alien: Romulus and how the experience has shaped his career and perspective. This was a truly fantastic conversation—Trevor isn’t just a master of his craft, he’s a storyteller at heart. You can enjoy this episode, ad-free only on Patreon.

The team at Perfect Organism Podcast dives into the recently released 40-second teaser for Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth. While many expected a full trailer with actual footage from the series, what we got was something entirely different. Jaime, Patrick, Perry, Andie, Adam, and Xander share their thoughts on whether this teaser hit the mark and lived up to expectations. Though Holden couldn’t join us for this episode, he was with us in spirit!

In this episode, Jaime, Patrick and Perry talk with Iván Pohárnok and Viktoria Stieber about their practical effect work on Alien Romulus. From working with Aileen Wu to creating the mechanism for Andy's upgrade, Ivan and Viktoria go in to wonderful detail about the rigors of working on a very practical film, the hours involved and what they're most proud of. This episode is a fantastic and detailed look behind the curtain of a film the size of Romulus. We hope you enjoy!

As we close out a banner year in Alien fandom, we return to our series dedicated to the game that changed everything: Alien: Isolation.
When we last had Andy Kelly on the show, he was telling us about a book he was in the very early stages of writing. Now that that book (Perfect Organism: An Alien: Isolation Companion) is released (and is spectacular!), we had Andy on the show again for a rousing conversation on Isolation's enduring legacy.
Thank you all for an INCREDIBLE 2024!!

In this episode, the whole gang gets together to reinvestigate the original Alien trilogy through the lens of Survival, Rescue and Grief. Why do the first three films resonate so deeply all these years later? Was it just about the characters or something more? Join Patrick, Jaime, Andie, Perry, Xander, Adam and Holden as we explore the many themes presented in the films. It's a fun and contemplative ride.

How often do you get to hear directly from an actor who got to be facehugged? In today's episode, Jaime, Patrick, and Andie get the full download from the wonderful actor Aileen Wu, whose performance as Navarro is a real highlight of this fascinating movie.
Aileen talks about building her character, getting to know her ship (and her crewmates), how that majestic chestbursting sequence came to life, and so much more. Aileen was an absolute delight to talk to, and we're so excited to share this interview with you all.

We often talk about how gorgeous the Alien films look. How lived-in they feel, how great the ship designs are, how iconic the creatures have become. But so much of what makes the Alien Saga special isn't visual at all: it's what they sound like.
In today's episode, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, and Adam chat with Lee Gilmore, Alien: Romulus' Supervising Sound Editor, about the huge honor—and challenge—of adding to that rich sonic history with this new film.
Wondering how they got the Corbelan IV to sound so real? How they managed to make the xenomorph's iconic scream feel more terrifying than ever? Join as as Lee takes us on a journey through the amazing sound design of Alien: Romulus.

One of the most iconic new elements introduced by Alien: Isolation ten years ago—at least judging by how often it's been referenced in the expanded universe and fan art—is the Working Joe.
Unlike their Hyperdyne competitors, Seegson Synthetics' androids are ... rudimentary, to put it mildly. Not only are they utilitarian and cheap, they are outright dangerous. Hilarious as they are terrifying, Working Joes are a major element of any Isolation playthrough.
On today's episode, Jaime, Patrick, and Christian are joined by our friend Adam Zeller of Alien vs. Predator Galaxy and first-time guest Matt Savage (Concept Designer for a little film you might've heard of called Alien: Romulus).

There's a saying in Hollywood: if you want to get your film made, be able to pitch it in an elevator ride. The setup for No Man's Land, Christian Kennedy's mega-hit Alien fan film, is about as pitchable as it gets: "Battlefield I meets Aliens."
Of course, a pitch will only get you so far. The execution is where the real magic happens. And Christian's film—which is just under 30 minutes long and has already racked up nearly 4.5 million views—is a masterclass in execution.
With killer cinematography, great effects, period-accurate costuming, and some great xenos, No Man's Land has been a massive hit with Alien fans since its release just two months ago.
In this Alien Day special, Jaime and Perry discuss the film with Christian and learn how he brought such an ambitious vision to life without a massive Hollywood budget.
Make sure you watch the film first! You can do so here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5Fnlq2T0Vg&t=1459s

Alien Isolation is a game that captures the essence of Alien in profound ways. But does it stick too close to the film that inspired it? Is Amanda Ripley's story too similar to that of her mother?
Spoiler alert: the answer is no. But on this episode, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, and guest CP have a hell of a time coming around to that conclusion.

In this brief news update, Patrick, Christian & Jaime convene to discuss the podcast's stance on spoilers, and our practices going forward. A glut of Romulus spoilers have been leaked in the past day or so and there's a lot of talk around the details of those leaks. Please join us as we spoilers within the context of fandom and the excitement of a new Alien movie on the way.

Ten years have passed since Alien: Isolation first terrified and enthralled us back in 2014. Over the course of this decade, we've seen Isolation go from sleeper hit to something absolutely iconic—not just in Alien fandom, but in video game history.
We are celebrating ten years of this amazing game with a full anniversary series we'll be releasing throughout the year. To kick things off, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, and Perry reflect on the legacy of this landmark entry in the Alien saga.

Depending on whom you ask, Alien 3 is either the moment the Alien franchise went off the rails or the moment it found its poetry. For many of us, it's both of these things at the same time.
But what if it hadn't been made? What if James Cameron had returned to make a more direct sequel to Aliens? Or what if William Gibson's film had made it to the screen? Or what if something entirely new—and even MORE out-there—happened instead?
On this roundtable, the whole PO team ponders these questions—and serves up some of their own ideas for what we might've gotten had Alien 3 not made its way to screens 32 years ago.

Aliens: Dark Descent takes some wild narrative risks—and the consensus among fans seems to be those risks paid off. In this interview, Christian and Patrick talk to Tindalos Narrative Designer and Writer Thibaut Claudel about his time on the project. We gain some great insights into 20th Century's handling of the IP and how it's changed somewhat since the Disney Era began a few years ago (hint: it's not what you might expect!), and we learn a ton about the process of putting a game like this together.

In our first formal episode of 2024, Christian, Patrick, Jaime and special returning guest Adam Ezekiel return to discuss in-depth each character from Ridley Scott's and Dan O'Bannon's masterpiece, ALIEN.
In part three of our re-investigation of ALIEN we dig into the crew of the Nostromo, who they are, their iconic status and how their costumes informs their character.

2023 was quite a year at the movies. "Barbenheimer" became a cultural phenomenon. Marvel lost its mojo. And a ten million-dollar subtitled Godzilla movie became the most successful live-action Japanese film in US history.
But Godzilla Minus One is so, so much more than just a box office success story. It's a deeply human tale that feels urgently suited to our time in world history. It manages to be both terrifying and profoundly moving, with unforgettable performances, a rigorous attention to detail, and one of the great musical scores of the 21st century.
It's also an absolute masterclass in how to create character-driven storytelling. The characters in Minus One feel like living, breathing, fully-realized human beings.
In this impassioned episode of Frame Rate, Jaime, Christian, and lifelong Godzilla nut Patrick discuss why this film is so important, and examine the reasons why Takashi Yamazaki's new Goji vision is resonating so deeply with audiences around the world.
In this short and sweet update, Jaime, Patrick & Christian reconvene to discuss Noah Hawley's latest comments on his forthcoming Alien series and the wider implications for the IP and the lore.

What if Aliens was never made? That's the question that starts off our final episode and roundtable of the year. Join the entire team at Perfect Organism Podcast as we sit down to talk about the future of Alien if Aliens had never been made. Believe us when we say, this was a challenging topic. James Cameron's Aliens is the defining film of the Alien saga, so coming up with ideas about what a future story could look like was a bit of an adventure. We hope you all enjoy this episode and thank you so much for supporting us throughout the years. We look forward to returning in 2024 with a continuation in a couple of our ongoing series, new content and fantastic coverage.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas for those who celebrate!

Mario Benvenuto, the maker behind the popular Wired_Workshop YouTube channel, managed to pull off what many Alien fans would consider a dream project: an Alien-themed escape room. Full of detail, Easter Eggs, and electronic wizardry, his escape room was a love letter to a franchise he loves dearly.
Mario is also a Patron, and has helped out with some prop making on our upcoming Alien Day 2024 film!
In this wide-ranging (and hilarious) episode, Patrick, Christian, Andie, and Mario discuss how the escape room came together, and end up having a much larger conversation about props in the Alien universe and what makes them so special.

The extended universe for ALIEN is nothing short of a miracle. From movie spin-offs and tie-ins to standalone novels like Vasquez, and masterpieces like Into Charybdis, Alien fandom has no shortage of stories and and adventures to go on between film releases. In this early drop episode, Christian & Jaime sit down with author T.R. Napper to discuss his newest novel, ALIENS: Bishop. Starting with Alien 3 as a starting off point, Napper's Bishop novel dives into artificial intelligence, what it means to be human and a platoon of badass Marines. We hope you enjoy.

In this episode your hosts Andie, Patrick, Jaime and special returning guest Adam Ezekiel sit down to continue our trek into the masterpiece that is ALIEN. In this discussion, we jump into 1979 with the reading of first hand accounts of what it was like to see ALIEN on the big screen at that time. From there we move into the discussion of the first character we meet in the film, the Nostromo. We had such a fun time discussing this topic and we are excited for you to hear it.

After over eight years in fandom, we at Perfect Organism: The Alien Saga Podcast are releasing our first annual Halloween episode. It seemed right that we dive into the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of Evil Dead. With Alien Romulus ten months away from release, this felt like the right time to check out what Fede might have up his sleeve in terms of tone and style. This was a rousing roundtable and we can't wait for you to listen!

As we await the promotional engine to begin revving up for Alien Romulus, a listener and friend of the show, Adam Ezekiel of Nostrum Crew reached out to us with an episode pitch. Adam's idea was to explore Dan O'Bannon & Ridley Scotts ALIEN by discussing what made it such a watershed moment in cinema history.
From Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey to 1951's The Day the Earth Stood Still, Christian, Patrick, Jaime and Adam jump into an immersion of sights, sounds and horror that is singular to Alien. Join us.

In the eleven years since the release of Prometheus a lot has been said about the film. Controversial, divisive, masterpiece, or fumble, there's no disputing that Ridley Scott's storied return to science fiction is one for the film history books. In this episode the PO team is joined by Derek from Alien Theory to 'defend Prometheus' as it were. Is Prometheus a film that needs defending? Where does it sit between the original trilogy of films and Alien Covenant? We attempt to explore all of those questions and more. This was a delightful discussion. Enjoy!

Welcome to Xeno Bio 101! When Alex White (author of two of the best-received Alien novels in history) mentioned on their previous PO appearance that they had an amazing science advisor named Lali DeRosier—a science teacher, like our very own Andie GeekGirl!—we knew we had to have her on the show. And to top it off, Alex even agreed to come back on as well!
In this wonderful, educational episode, Lali and Andie take us to science class. How could these creatures grow so quickly? What does "biomechanical" even mean? What the hell is the thing called that the Queen drops eggs from (hint: it's not an ovipositor)?
Join Patrick, Christian, Andie, Lali, and Alex as they discuss these ideas and SO much more!
Lali has a podcast of her own called Curly Hair Mafia—a great place to start would be this episode discussing Prometheus! https://curlyhairmafia.com/2012/06/10/prometheus/

One of our most popular episode formats on Shoulder of Orion: The Blade Runner Podcast (sister show to PO) is "Anatomy of a Scene," where we break down exactly what makes a given sequence so iconic. When Aliens: Dark Descent was announced, it was hard to make out exactly how this real-time strategy outing was going to fit into the rich (and all-over-the-place) pantheon of Alien games. Could a squad game be scary? Was it going to be another wave-after-wave mow 'em fest like the (very fun) Aliens: Fireteam Elite?
In this episode, Patrick and Christian welcome first-time guest Adam Zeller of the Alien vs. Predator Galaxy Podcast to discuss their initial impressions of Dark Descent. Does it work as a game? Does it work as a piece of Expanded Universe lore/world-building? Join us as we explore these questions (and a whole lot more)—and be sure to listen to the AvP Galaxy Podcast as well! Our "Egg and the Sulaco" episode was quite a hit, it seems! Your thoughtful, impassioned, sometimes-wacky feedback/conspiracy theories inspired us to do a Part Two on this topic, and to enlist the help of bona fide Alien superstar Alex White (author of Alien: The Cold Forge and Alien: Into Charybdis among many other fantastic books you should check out).

Call it what you will—Alien: Romulus, untitled Alien film, or anything in between—Fede Alvarez's upcoming Alien project has the internet absolutely buzzing lately.
In this roundtable (our largest ever!), the PO Team enlists the help of some friends to break down the rumors and news leaks, and to help envision the myriad directions this project could ultimately end up going in. Happy Alien Day! We are pleased to present our interview with former Fox executive, Joshua Izzo. In 2022, we interviewed informal Alien Day founder Alaric Hahn. This year, we're talking to the man in charge of starting Alien Day as we know it on a corporate level. Josh Izzo is the former Director of Licensing at 20th Century Fox, before it was purchased by Disney. This was one of the most insightful and fascinating conversations that pulls back the curtain at what was happening in the company before Disney stepped in. We hope you enjoy.

We're taking a break this week to work on our Alien Day content. We hope you enjoy an exclusive episode of Frame Rate, our Patreon-exclusive film review show.
To say HBO's The Last of Us had a high bar to clear would be putting it mildly. For one thing, it would need to adapt one of the most critically acclaimed video games in history to a different medium. But to be successful, it would also need to speak to new fans in an urgent way, while carrying along the fans who'd been there since 2013. To simultaneously satisfy a generation of PlayStation gamers' expectations while surprising them enough to feel like more than a series of cutscenes.
In this installment of Frame Rate—the first of (at least) two episodes we're dedicating to TLOU—Jaime, Patrick, Micah, and Dan (Ferlito, who came back just for the occasion!) explore the first season of this landmark television series in depth. Please—please—make sure you've watched all the episodes of season one before listening to this, as we go very much into spoilers.

As we bring this Blomkamp miniseries to a close, we end in a place we never expected: one of empathy, appreciation, and understanding. It's easy to lose sight of the human behind the headline. Neill Blomkamp underwent some very public suffering during the events surrounding his unmade Alien film. And Ridley Scott, despite his prickly exterior, is a person with feelings and frustrations as well—and Alien: Covenant is a window into those frustrations.
This final installment is dedicated to listener feedback, and it's your listener feedback that brings us to that place of empathy. This episode is a wild ride, and it's one we'll always remember. Thank you for writing in, thank you for giving us new perspectives and insights, and thank you for being part of the Alien family. We're lucky to share this space with all of you.

Jaime, Christian, Andie, and Patrick sit down for the next episode in our Blomkamp miniseries to discuss the fallout of Blomkamp's project during the release of Alien: Covenant. We leave no stone unturned as we attempt to get to the bottom of how much Covenant was affected by the excitement for the ill-fated Blomkamp film. Join us once again as we continue to investigate the Alien film that was never made, yet feels like it was.

Almost exactly eight years after our first episode aired, we return to the topic that started it all: Neill Blomkamp's unmade Alien project.
In this first episode of a miniseries we're devoting to the Blomkamp situation, Jaime, Patrick, and Christian take a trip back in time to 2015 and examine the sequence of events that led to the very public conversations about whether or not this thing was going to get made. What actually existed? Was there a script? What would this film have become?
Join us as we don our detective hats and seek some answers.

There's been some breaking news from the production of Alien Romulus! Patrick & Jaime sit down for a brief conversation to break down the latest casting news, the age of the cast and the very brief story synopsis that was officially released. Love it or hate it (or both at the same time), Alien: Resurrection passed an important milestone last Thanksgiving: it turned 25 years old.

As we close out (for now) our miniseries on Lovecraft's cosmic horror in the Alien universe, we come to the most recent film in the saga: the ever-controversial, ever-interesting, ever-bizarre Alien: Covenant.
Is Covenant Lovecraftian? Is it Gothic horror? Is it something in the middle? Jaime, Patrick, and resident Lovecraft expert Christian ponder these (and many more) questions on this wide-ranging and impassioned episode.
They also address recent listener feedback about whether the prequel saga should continue—and, if so, what a successful third prequel might look like.

In what was our final recording for the calendar year 2022, Jaime, Patrick, Christian and Perry come together to discuss the working title news of the Fede Alvarez-directed Alien film as well as go on to discuss the merits of the theatrical edition of Alien 3 versus the Assembly Cut. From chest-bursting, to creature effects, we leave no stone unturned as we share our ideas on why one version of Alien 3 may work better than another. The costumes of Alien have long been praised for adding to the verisimilitude of the film's "Truckers in Space" aesthetic. Fans have sought out replicas of these items right from the start with hats, patches, and pins filling the back pages of Starlog magazine.

Some call it the Pilot. Some call an Engineer. Many of us call it the Space Jockey. Call it what you will, this mysterious figure inside the Derelict has haunted and intrigued fans for decades.
But why? What is it about this silent, seemingly ancient figure that makes it so unforgettable? For years, a major part of the Jockey's lasting appeal was its unknowability. But now that we have the prequels—and with them, the Engineers—is the Jockey no longer a mystery? Or has the mystery just shifted?
In this roundtable, Jaime, Patrick, Maj, and Perry ponder these questions and come to some unexpected conclusions. They also explore the history of the Pilot from script to screen, and examine its life in the Expanded Universe of Dark Horse comics, etc.

A decade ago, Guillermo del Toro famously stopped his work on an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness because he felt Ridley Scott's Prometheus had beaten him to the punch. Scott himself was mum on the issue, but when Prometheus premiered in theaters it was clearly connected to ATMOM, whether Ridley (or Spaihts, or Lindelof) were public about it.
So what exactly is Prometheus' connection to Lovecraft's 1931 novella? Do they share story beats, or are there deeper philosophical connections between the two?
In this second installment of our investigation into cosmic horror and the Alien franchise, we mount an expedition to look for answers to questions we might not've known we were asking in the first place.

"Lovecraftian" gets thrown around a lot these days, but what does it actually mean? When people say Alien is a Lovecraftian film, what are they getting at?
We're launching a miniseries to explore those questions (and a whole lot more), and on this first installment we're looking at H.P. Lovecraft himself and how his themes speak to the themes in Alien.
How does Giger's reverence for HPL show up in the film? What are we actually afraid of, long after the credits roll? Join Jaime, Patrick, and bona fide Lovecraft scholar Christian as they wade into the strange depths in search of answers.

David Fincher's involvement with Alien 3 does not have a storybook ending. Unlike his predecessors Ridley Scott, and James Cameron, Fincher's work on Alien 3 would be remembered as one of the most troubled productions in cinema history. In this episode, Christian, Patrick, and Jaime discuss the issues surrounding Fincher's involvement and the merits of his continuing disassociation from the film. This was a interesting and challenging conversation. We hope you enjoy.

Feminism is a word that's long been linked to the Alien franchise, and it continues to be an incendiary term in our current social climate. In this episode, special guest Sarah Welch-Larson joins Patrick, Andie, and Jaime to break down what that actually term means and if it's faithful to the spirit of the original four Alien films. Patrick and Jaime were delighted to sit down with writer/director Ian Nathan, and executive producer Robin Block as they discussed their new documentary Aliens Expanded. If Alien fandom has a bedrock, it would be none-other than James Cameron's Aliens. Aliens is the film everyone gathers around, the main course at a cinematic feast. Ian, and Robin discuss why they believe that's the case, and how they want to capture the love and celebration in a documentary that's certain to ignite our love for the film even more. Have you ever wondered what would've happened if Ripley's showdown with the creature onboard The Narcissus had ended differently? Chris Bissette is a game designer, writer, and musician who created an innovative RPG experience to explore that question—not only creating a theoretical fifth act to Alien, but putting players in Ripley's shoes as well. The Wretched is an original IP, but functions beautifully as an Alien analogue.
In this minisode, Patrick and Christian chat with Chris about game design, the enduring power of Alien, and why single-player RPG experiences are having such a moment.

Alien: Isolation is the sort of game that attracts a certain type of Alien obsessive: packed with lore, overflowing with aesthetic detail, and completely unrelenting in its difficulty and terror, Isolation is an extraordinary achievement in game design that continues to enthrall Alien fans eight years after its release.
Andy Kelly is a video game journalist who has written extensively about Alien: Isolation from the very beginning. Along the way, he's amassed a wealth of interviews, behind-the-scenes insights, and level design knowledge that has culminated, finally, in his writing the definitive Alien: Isolation companion.
In this episode, Andy takes Patrick and Christian behind the curtains for a deeper look at this incredible game, and lets us know what we can look forward to when the book is eventually published.

Two recent Alien novels—Alien: Into Charybdis by Alex White and Alien: Colony War by David Barnett—share a common audiobook narrator. What you might not know about this narrator, though, is she's just as much an Alien nerd as you are!
Shiromi Arserio's website describes her as an "Accent Chameleon," and listening to her work on these recent novels is a masterclass on how to balance character, dialect, and storytelling tension in a way that's at once unobtrusive and yet utterly riveting.
Shiromi was kind enough to spend an evening goofing around with Patrick and Christian, spilling some trade secrets and geeking out about painting Alien miniatures along the way.

On June 8, 2012, Prometheus ushered in a controversial—and wildly new—era in Alien history. How has Prometheus aged in the decade since it was released? What themes have stuck? How has it shown up across other works throughout the expanded Alien universe, and how do those works bring Prometheus in new directions?

Charles S. Dutton's performance as Leonard Dillon in Alien 3 is one of those portrayals that seems almost star-crossed. With his thrilling speeches, deep humanity, and murky past, Dillon is a character who becomes more special the more time you spend with him—a character that makes us ask Big Questions, like what is redemption? Can you find it even after you've committed atrocities? Where do you search for hope at the Ass End of Space?
Dutton, with his own troubled past and remarkable acting journey, brings such force and depth to this character that it's no wonder many of his monologues—the burial sequence, his "let's fight it" speech—have become beloved touchstones of modern science fiction.
In this next installment in our ongoing 30th Anniversary of Alien 3 coverage, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, and Andie discuss this deeply complex character.

Charles de Lauzirika is the Restoration Producer of the Alien 3 Assembly Cut, as well as the director of Wreckage and Rage, the definitive behind-the-scenes account of Alien 3 (which you may have seen, in various forms, on both the Quadrilogy and Anthology boxsets). He reached out to us after our previous Assembly Cut commentary went live on Alien Day and asked if we'd like to watch it again, only this time with him on the commentary panel!
Jaime, Patrick, and Christian had the immense pleasure of learning the inside story of the Assembly Cut from the guy who actually put it together, and we're thrilled to share this exclusive experience with our listeners.
The commentary track gets started after a few minutes of intros and banter; we'll cue you when it's time to start playing the film.

As Perfect Organism Podcast dives into our celebration of the 30 year anniversary of Alien 3, we decided to start off our conversations about the nature of the film. How did you feel about the film going into it? Did you know that Hicks & Newt would meet their tragic fate before you saw it? Have you been able to get over their deaths? Is Alien 3 a film that's found its rightful place? The team at Perfect Organism sits down to talk about all of this, setting the stage for a series of episodes covering one of the most storied films in Hollywood history.

After a couple of years locked in the old freezerinos, fandoms are starting to reconnect in person again. Earlier this month, the New York City WinterCon provided a fantastic opportunity for Aliens fans to meet one another—and to meet many of the Colonial Marines themselves!
In this episode, Andie and Christian tell Jaime and Patrick all about their Con experience—Andie as a volunteer working with the cast, and Christian as a costumed attendee. Ever wonder if Mark Rolston is a tea guy or a coffee fiend? Or if Michael Biehn takes a lunch break? Or how much of a single Perfect Organism episode can be realistically devoted to talking about how attractive Ricco Ross is in person? Tune in!

In this lively episode, the Perfect Organism team all sits down to discuss some of the scariest moments that have stuck with them in movies. In this roundtable discussion, the team at Perfect Organism sits down to discuss the processes of the Alien lifecycle. 2021 is a year that will go down in Perfect Organism history as one of our favorites. We talked to our heroes, we reopened the marvelously fascinating wound that is Alien: Covenant, and we grew our team. We read new comics, played a new board game, devoured another Alex White novel. We spent another Alien Day with friends and family, and released another audio drama.
But just wait till you hear what we've got planned for 2022!

Aliens: Special Edition was a thing of mystery for many years before it saw a formal release on Laser Disc in 1991. In the interim, many of us remembered specific scenes we weren't sure were real until James Cameron gave his seal of approval on his original vision. In this roundtable episode, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, Andie, and Perry sit down to discuss the merits of the special edition, and how they stack up against the theatrical release. Is one version superior than the other? We attempt to answer this question and more. Join us.

There is a time shortly after the release of Prometheus and before pre-production on Alien: Covenant where things get ... murky. Ridley Scott was doing interview after interview, talking about a planned trilogy (or was it a quintology?) of prequel films in the coming years. The rumor mill on Prometheus 2 (or was it Paradise Lost?) was in full swing. Things were happening.
In this installment in our ongoing exploration into Alien: Covenant, Jaime and Patrick are joined by Aaron Percival of AVP Galaxy to comb through those early days in a search for answers. What happened to Lindelof? How did Blomkamp's art dumps change the narrative? We dive into all this and more in this archaeological dig of an episode.

The Medbay sequence in Alien: Covenant shocked, enthralled, and terrified audiences back in 2017. There's no beating around the bush: Alien: Covenant is, at its heart, a divisive film in fandom. So how do we make sense of it? Do we throw it all out and hope for a more unifying film next time? It's never that simple. While there is a lot that is controversial about Alien: Covenant, there is a lot that is profound as well.
In this roundtable discussion, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, Andie, Perry, and Maj jump into the deep end to discuss a film that continues to be a flashpoint in fandom. While not the success the studio had hoped for—or the rallying point fans were desperate to receive—Covenant is worthy of exploration. We hope you enjoy.

When Alien: Covenant was released in theaters back in 2017, it was nothing short of explosive. EVERYONE had an opinion about it. And for a lot of us in Alien fandom, Covenant represents a painful time in our community.
But why? What is it about this movie that inspires such intense reactions, good and bad?
Join Jaime and Patrick as they revisit the very first on-air discussion they ever had (way back in Episode 59). How does Alien: Covenant sit now, four years after its release? What themes have stood the test of time; what has soured with age? Where do we go from here? How did we get here in the first place?
This is the first episode of a full, extended series that many of you have been asking for. We're calling it "Exquisite Corpse - Dissecting Alien: Covenant." And we can't wait to take this journey with you.

Aliens remains one of the greatest sequels ever made. The 1986 followup to the Ridley Scott original turned a one-off phenomenal film into a franchise-maker.
Even moreso than its predecessor, James Cameron’s Aliens is a film about character. In this special interview, Jenette Goldstein—who, in portraying PFC Vasquez, gave us one of the most unforgettable characters of all—takes us on a tour of her life, her time on set, and her most cherished memories.

Thirty-five years ago—July 14, 1986—James Cameron’s Aliens lit up movie screens across the globe for the first time. In the decades since, Aliens has become a deeply beloved, immeasurably influential, genre-defining example of what great filmmaking looks like.
In this roundtable celebration of Aliens’ 35th anniversary, Jaime, Patrick, Christian, Maj, and Perry are joined once again by Marvel’s Phillip Kennedy Johnson for a rousing look at Aliens and its deep impact on our lives, our work, and our world.
As we get ever closer to the 35th anniversary of Aliens' theatrical premiere, fans around the world find ourselves feeling a little nostalgic. Many of us were introduced to Aliens (or other films in the saga) by parents, aunts, uncles, etc. And many of us now, having grown to become parents, aunts, uncles ourselves, are in the wonderful position of being able to introduce it to kids ourselves.
On this heartfelt episode, Jaime and Patrick are joined by our new Contributing Host Christian Matzke, as well as beloved PO guest Andie GeekGirl. We hope you feel the love.

The character of Parker is arguably the hero of Alien. Performed deftly by the late Yaphet Kotto, Parker echoes in the heart chambers of the Alien saga. From his charm, to his wit, to his affable nature, Parker endears himself to the audience as well as the crew of the Nostromo.
In this episode, Jaime, Patrick, and special guest Christian Matzke sit down to discuss this indelible character and the legacy he's left in a series that is second to none.

The announcement of Alien leaving Dark Horse for Marvel sent shockwaves through fandom, and for good reason. After more than three decades with the venerable underdog publisher, Alien was going to an entertainment powerhouse.
Many of us felt like this was either very good news or very bad news. Either way, the announcement has had fandom on tenterhooks for the past year. Who would write these stories? What would they have to say? Would Marvel—and, by extension, Disney—understand Alien enough to get this right?
Well, we at Perfect Organism are delighted to bring you this wild, nearly two-hour interview with Phillip Kennedy Johnson, the man writing these comics—an interview that essentially serves as an extended "yes" to the question of whether Marvel knows what it's doing with our beloved franchise.
Phillip is a lifelong Alien nut with an abiding love for the property and a passion to get it right. In this interview, Jaime and Patrick have the opportunity to speak with Phillip about what that means. What Alien is really about. What these comics are going to attempt to express. How to tell stories that feel immediate and relevant in the world we inhabit.
This interview is many things, but perhaps most of all it's a love letter. A love letter to comic books, and a love letter to that moment we get to cherish time and again when we realize how many deeply, beautifully nerdy fans are out there around the world.
We hope you love it. This is one of our best.
Stay tuned for Building Better World-submitted questions at the end, and stick around after the credits for a sneak peek at a new show we think you'll love!

To many Alien fans across the world, the name "Alan Dean Foster" has become legend. Many of us grew up reading his novelizations—book treatments so rich with character and setting they felt like movies unto themselves.
In addition to his four decades of work on the Alien franchise, Alan Dean Foster has written well over 100 novels spanning science fiction, fantasy, and novelizations of some of the most globally beloved franchises (Star Wars, Star Trek, Terminator, and many others).
In this relaxed, free-ranging interview, Mr. Foster takes Jaime and Patrick on a journey through his career in and out of Hollywood. We discuss his connection to the Alien series, his dreams for the future, the nature of creativity, and a heck of a lot more. We also dedicate time at the end to listener questions (thanks for submitting them at Building Better Worlds!).
Be sure to check out alandeanfoster.com for a wealth of information on his work. It's worth the visit!

As longtime Perfect Organism listeners know, Alien 3 is especially close to Jaime and Patrick's hearts. In this interview—something of a dream come true for this show—we had the opportunity to spend an afternoon chatting with Ralph Brown, the actor behind Francis Aaron ("85"). He gives us a deeply personal look into the history of Alien 3: the casting process, the shoot, working with David Fincher and Sigourney Weaver, and much more.
We also take a journey through other key parts of his multifaceted creative life. From filming The Crying Game to writing two rap musicals, Ralph Brown has forged a long and productive career in the arts that spans genre, media, and skillset.

While Prometheus may be controversial for many different reasons, what is generally agreed upon is its production design and attention to every detail. In this episode, Jaime, and Patrick break down the production design choices for the film. Like so many things this year, Alien: 40 Years 40 Artists was delayed for months due to world events. Luckily—as anyone with a copy can attest—the wait was beyond worth it. Packed with stunning artwork and personal anecdotes, the book is a love letter to the franchise and a wellspring of inspiration.
It’s also a great opportunity to see some familiar names trying new things with their talents. Three of those names are especially beloved to Alien fans around the world: Dane Hallett, Matt Hatton, and Tristan Jones.
In this extended conversation—very much a love letter to the franchise in itself—these three super-artists/super-fans chat with Jaime and Patrick about what Alien means to them, what draws them back to it year after year, and so much more.

In this next installment of our ongoing exploration into the origins of Prometheus, Jaime and Patrick (with special guest Dan Ferlito, their cohost on Shoulder of Orion: The Blade Runner Podcast) dive deeply into two very important documents: Jon Spaihts' ALIEN: Engineers and Damon Lindelof's Paradise.
The quick, popularized version of events is that Jon Spaihts, hired by Scott and Fox to write a screenplay based on a compelling pitch, turned in something rough-hewn but interesting. Then Damon Lindelof, hot off the success of Lost, was brought in to give it a little Hollywood magic—and a less overt connection to Alien.
But there's a lot more to it than that. Join us on this deep dive into the early days of Prometheus.

Prometheus premiered at a curious time in Alien fandom. It'd been 15 years since the release of the previous canonical film in the main Alien continuity, and the internet was transitioning rapidly into something a lot more connected—and a lot more intense—than what it'd previously been.
It was an era of tightly guarded secrets, leaked photos, buzzing internet forums, and nascent social media groups. And one of the most active places for fans to engage was (and is) AvPGalaxy (avpgalaxy.net).
On this installment of our ongoing investigation into Prometheus, Jaime and Patrick spend some quality time with their friend Aaron Percival, AvPGalaxy's co-administrator and host of the AvPGalaxy podcast. They discuss where fandom was in the months leading up to Prometheus' premiere—and how various changes in studio marketing, social media, and public discourse came together to create a unique time to be an Alien fan.

A lifetime ago—January 2020, to be exact—Dark Horse issued one of the most exciting press releases in Alien expanded universe history: Dan O'Bannon's original screenplay was getting a comic adaptation.
The creative team tasked with this extraordinary challenge was more than up to it. Writer Cristiano Seixas has been an integral part of the Brazilian comics scene for decades. Active in writing, illustrating, animation, and more, he's also the Creative Director of Ghost Jack Entertainment (a game studio) and the founder of Casa dos Quadrinhos School of Visual Arts in Brazil.
Along with his friend/longtime collaborator, the artist Guilherme Balbi, Seixas brings O'Bannon's script to luminous new life in this five-issue Dark Horse run.
Join Jaime and Patrick as they chat with Cristiano about art, Alien, adaptation, and much more. For more on Cristiano and his work—including Calango, the groundbreaking comic book/mobile app about a girl and her desert lizard—visit cristianoseixas.com.

Jaime, and Patrick break down a recent article from Escapist Magazine (https://bit.ly/2XtabBY) that addresses the nihilism present in David Fincher's Alien 3. Is nihilism the true spirit of the Alien saga? Was Fincher's vision more in line tonally with Alien than Aliens? Patrick & Jaime attempt to answer these questions and more in this return to the controversial—yet beautiful—film, Alien 3.

As fandom continues to process the loss of Sir Ian Holm, Jaime and Patrick return to The Forbidden Planet for an installment dedicated to his immortal portrayal of Ash. The conversation takes some extraordinary turns along the way—inspired in no small part by your comments and insights in Building Better Worlds and live on the air.
Holm's portrayal of Ash was a watershed in how AI was represented on screen. This conversation—which we feel might be one of our best yet—is our tiny way of trying to do some justice to his legacy.

In 1980, David Lynch, widely known for his avant-garde cinema aesthetic, briefly changed course and released one of the best pictures of the 20th Century. The Elephant Man, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir John Hurt, and Anne Bancroft took critics and audiences by storm with its depiction of John Merrick, a real man that lived in breathed in turn of the century England.
Jaime, and special guest Mark Deckard dive into The Elephant Man, and all of the questions surrounding his story.

In this episode of our Patreon exclusive show, Jaime, and Patrick discuss David Lynch's divisive yet visually arresting film, Dune.
Dune, released in 1984, was the culmination of years of struggle to bring Frank Herberts seminal novel to the big screen. Notable attempts include the now storied Jodorowsky version which fell apart during pre-production.

Next up on our Alien Day 2020: ICC Quarantine Edition schedule is a commentary track for one of the most beloved films not just in the franchise, but in Hollywood history: Aliens. Patrick and Jaime were lucky enough to have returning guest (and Aliens mega-fan) Andie GeekGirl join the party!
This commentary track is for the 1991 Special Edition. We will walk you through how to make sure the playback lines up, so don't worry: just start the episode, load up that Blu-ray, and make sure you have lots of sentry guns outside the room. Just a heads up: there is a little chunk of audio missing around ten minutes into the commentary—we had some internet issues. Don't worry, we come right back again during the interrogation sequence!
We hope you are enjoying the Alien Day festivities. We're very lucky to share this wonderful fandom with listeners like you.

We've finally arrived at Alien Day 2020: ICC Quarantine Edition! What better way to kick things off than with a special episode of Shit Show, our down-and-dirty Patreon podcast? As a reminder, we are making Patreon content available for everyone during this extended period of social distancing and lockdown.
Anyone who has listened to Perfect Organism through the years has likely noticed a strange trend: we've been gradually liking the first AvP film more and more every time we talk about it. On this special presentation, Jaime and Patrick are joined by longtime contributor Mykal McCulloch, frequent guest (and bather of action figures) Mike Denis, and some genuine AvP royalty: our dear friend Aaron Percival, co-owner/administrator of AvP Galaxy.
This commentary track is for the theatrical edition, not the unrated. It's intended to be played alongside the movie, and we'll walk you through how that works after the episode starts. So load your discs, start your downloads, stay the hell away from any ancient underground pyramids, and get ready to have a great time.
We'll be bringing you Alien Day content all day long, so stay tuned to Perfect Organism's social media channels to ensure you don't miss anything. Stay safe, and stay frosty!

FRAME RATE: There Will Be Blood (2007)
Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood (2007) was the rare film that immediately established itself as a classic upon its initial theatrical release. Anchored by an Oscar-winning performance from Daniel Day-Lewis, an experimentally riveting score by Jonny Greenwood, and Robert Elswit’s jaw-dropping cinematography, There Will Be Blood set a new standard in what 21st-century Hollywood was capable of producing.
In this episode of Frame Rate, the guys discuss this darkly wonderful film’s place in cinema history—and its place in their hearts, as well.

FRAME RATE: Inception (2010)
In Christopher Nolan's 2010 blockbuster, Inception, themes we are familiar with from science fiction are explored in a unique and visually-stunning way.
Winner of four Oscars, with a star-studded cast and incredible performances, as well as one of Hanz Zimmer's best scores (in Dan's opinion), this film asks of us the BIG questions: what is the nature of our reality? Can what we dream be real? If you had unlimited time with your loved ones, what would you build? What would you explore?
Wildly-successful, this film has something for everyone; but while it's easy to watch it as a heist/Bond sci-fi-action movie, that's just scratching the surface.
Join Dan, Patrick, and Jaime as they take a deep dive into one of their favorite films.

FRAME RATE: The Invisible Man (2020)
Perfect Organism and Shoulder of Orion are making our ongoing Patreon releases free for all listeners during this extraordinary time. We are thinking of you all.
With a stunning performance by Elisabeth Moss and brilliantly nuanced direction and writing by Leigh Whannell, The Invisible Man was one of 2020’s first breakout hits—even though its box office was severely impacted by the evolving coronavirus pandemic.
In this installment of Frame Rate, Jaime and Patrick discuss The Invisible Man's themes, ideas, techniques, and context within contemporary horror/thriller filmmaking.

Jaime and Patrick turn on their video cameras and launch their first episode in their new series covering Ridley Scott's return to science fiction, Prometheus. When fans first heard about an upcoming Aliens novel set in a world of shields and spears last year, message boards and Facebook groups lit up. What would it read like? Was this a straight-up fantasy novel? Was it just a wacky experiment?
Luckily for us, we were in good hands all along. Scott Sigler's intricate story takes us places unexpected, different, and thrilling—and though it turns out to be (at least in some ways) a "fantasy" novel, it's Aliens through and through.
In this interview, Scott joins Jaime and Patrick for a wide-ranging discussion on inspiration, creativity, story, and much more. He also took time to answer listener questions submitted via Building Better Worlds, so stick around all the way to the end!

It's not often we're taken completely by surprise these days. Usually, there's an inkling of something coming. News leaks. A company announces they've acquired rights to use the Alien license on Twitter. Alien's Instagram posts some teasers. You know the drill.
But a few months back, a whole ton of what-the-blessed-hell-is-going-on got dropped on fandom when a toy company many of us had never heard of started releasing some super colorful, super crazy designs reminiscent of the Kenner toys so many of us grew up with.
In this minisode, frequent contributor Dave Gogel (of Xenomorphing) leads Patrick "Gorilla Alien Is My Spirit Animal" Greene and returning guest Mike Denis on a journey to figure out where these things came from and what they're all about. We didn't end up with many answers, but we did end up laughing a hell of a lot.

In this—perhaps the most ambitious episode we've ever attempted—Jaime and Patrick try to do justice to Elliot Goldenthal's towering achievement: his original score for Alien 3. Using original research and analysis, Goldenthal's own cue sheets, the full orchestral score, Patrick's background as a professional composer, and Jaime's encyclopedic knowledge of film soundtracks, the PO team wades deeply into this complicated, powerful musical statement.
This is also a long-awaited return to the first extended series we ever attempted: In Defense of Alien 3! We hope to continue to periodically revisit all of our extended series in the years to come.

We're excited to bring our Patreon supporters another all-new, ongoing series—and we'd like to share this first episode with everyone! We're calling this new program Shit Show: The Lighter Side of Perfect Organism. It's about taking ourselves (and our franchise) a little less seriously. Exploring corners of the franchise we might not otherwise touch on, and taking time to explore some hidden gems—or turds—in science fiction and genre filmmaking more broadly.

In this second-to-last entry into our Forbidden Planet series, Patrick and Jaime welcome special guests AndieGeekGirl and Patrick's partner Micah Greene to discuss the character of Ellen Ripley. In this surprisingly sobering and philosophical discussion, we break down Ripley as an iconic character. She defied all expectations and gender norms; there is no one like Ellen Ripley, and there will likely never be again. In this heartfelt, free-ranging episode, Jaime and Patrick discuss one of the most important film characters in their lives: Ellen Ripley. Anchoring the conversation to Ripley's role in Alien, they branch into a larger conversation on gender, class, race, and representation in this classic film—and how Sigourney Weaver's performance broke every mold imaginable.

From his first experiences with the Alien series, to how he reimagined a stage play based off Vincent Ward's unused script, Conar and Stevie host what is a brilliant and hilarious episode, casting light on the base story for what would become the film we know as Alien 3. Jerry Goldsmith's remarkable score for Alien is an achievement for the ages—but why? What makes it so beautifully suited to this film? Why was Goldsmith—who wasn't Scott's first choice—the only composer who could've pulled this masterpiece off?
In this extraordinarily deep dive, Jaime and Patrick look at Goldsmith's life, career, and musical style. And using Patrick's background as a professional composer—and Jaime's encyclopedic knowledge of film scores—they analyze the score on a deeply technical level, too.

As we continue our year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Alien, we've finally arrived at the man behind the camera: Sir Ridley Scott.
To say Scott was a bizarre choice to helm Alien would be putting it mildly. Virtually unknown outside of commercials and television—with just one feature film (an epic about Napoleonic War-era swordplay) to his name—Scott ended up being an almost impossibly good pick to direct this groundbreaking movie.
Jaime and Patrick explore Scott's roots—his youth in northern England, his years coming out of art school, his work for the BBC—and discuss how those life experiences helped shape him into the perfect director for one of the great films ever made. They also talk about the shoot itself, and how Scott's idiosyncrasies worked in his favor as he overcame the limitations of the studio system to craft a blockbuster that felt like an art film.

It's impossible to overstate just how revolutionary—and how brilliant—HR Giger's work on Alien was. But why? Why does his work continue to enthrall and haunt us? Why has it gone on to define the look of "horror in space" for the past four decades?
On this next installment into our Forbidden Planet series, hosts JM Prater and Patrick Greene welcome a special guest: Majid Shanaa, longtime listener and eloquent xeno-fan. Join the guys as they explore Giger's life, art, and his endlessly fascinating influence on us all.

After a year of huge uncertainty—about the future of 20th Century Fox and the future of the franchise—we've emerged revivified and looking toward the future.
So let's celebrate!

How does it fit in the continuum of science fiction—and how did it alter that continuum forever?

At last, we've reached a stopping point on our journey down 40 Miles of Bad Road. But don't worry! We'll be revisiting the series from time to time in the years to come.
As we sit here and reflect on the road we've traveled—the stories we've heard, the reflections we've shared, the people we've met along the way—we thought it would be a nice moment to open the conversation up a bit.
On this enormous roundtable, Jaime and Patrick are joined by regulars Mykal McCulloch, MUTHUR9000 (yutani.blog), Dave Gogel (xenomorphing.com), and Conar Murdoch, as well as some new voices: Sean Sumner (part of our Building Better Worlds team) and Dusty Tweedhope (longtime listener and friend of the show).
This show covers the full gamut of what we hope to achieve with this roundtable format: hilarity, genuine introspection, fellowship, ribald banter, and so much more. We celebrate the past and look to the future, and we have a wonderful time along the way.

Alien Day 2018 starts with a bang! And a feverish run down a corridor towards a door with a combination I can't figure out while being pursued by hissing creatures in the darkness ...
Fox granted us early access to this wonderful new RPG-style Alexa game. In this minisode, Patrick runs through the basics and shares some of his thoughts.

It's easy to write off Alien Resurrection as the black sheep of the Alien Saga. Whether you love it or you hate it—or both at the same time—you can't deny there's a lot to talk about.
In this riotous roundtable, Ryan, Patrick, MUTHUR9000, and Dave revisit this crazy film and try to figure out what works and what doesn't. Along the way, they deal with some pretty deep questions: Is Dave's dad a prophet? Was Michael Wincott the inspiration for Christian Bale's Batman voice? How much K-Y Jelly is too much K-Y Jelly?
As we come closer to the end of our In Defense of Alien 3 series, we're excited to launch this new miniseries on Resurrection.
Anyone up for some basketball?

At long last, our In Defense of Alien 3 miniseries has arrived at the final shooting script for Alien 3—a strange, wild thing that somehow pulled itself through years of development hell and emerged a dark masterwork.
Ringing with the echoes of all the stories and creators that had come (and left) before, Giler and Hill’s final script is a crazy journey. In this episode, Ryan, JM, and Patrick come together to walk through the actual script as it appears on the page. Along the way, they analyze their favorite moments from the film and discuss why, in their opinions, Alien 3 deserves to be held up as an enduring masterpiece.

After months of infighting, confusion, and generalized crankiness, the Alien fan community rejoiced as one this past week in the wake of two big announcements: a new video game and a new comic!
In this episode, Ryan, Patrick, Dave, and Mykal have an especially raucous roundtable discussion about the big news. Along the way, they go deep into their personal histories with in-universe video games—the good ones, the bad ones, the weird ones, the ones that got seized as evidence by the FBI when they were children, and much more.
It was great fun to record this episode; we hope it’s just as fun to listen to.

As Alien fans, we’ve become used to change. Different directors; different scripts; different planets; different eras; different timelines; even different film studios. With everything so constantly in flux, it’s easy to forget that Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr. have been there since nearly the very beginning. From their pioneering work on Aliens, to the foundation of the legendary Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc., Gillis and Woodruff have been at the vanguard of the effects industry for more than three decades.
In this exclusive, unprecedented interview, our very own JM Prater visited Gillis and Woodruff at Studio ADI in Hollywood for a sit-down conversation about their love for the Alien Saga, their relationships with the fans, and much, much more.

Recent events—the announcement of the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by the Walt Disney Company; controversial proclamations by Ridley Scott on the future of the franchise; a surprise Instagram post by Neill Blomkamp offering never-before-seen conceptual art for his Alien 5 project; among others—have Alien fandom whipped into a frenzy.
Hoping to make some sense of these late-breaking developments, JM, Ryan, Patrick, and Mykal assembled for a very impassioned late-night roundtable discussion.
Where do you stand on all this? What are your thoughts? Tell us at Building Better Worlds—we’d love to keep this conversation going.
***BONUS*** Stay tuned at the end of the episode for an exclusive preview of Proximity: Last Stand at Hadley's Hope! And be sure to refresh your podcatchers on January 1, when we’ll be dropping the first chapter of this groundbreaking audio drama.

With the news of the recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney, Jaime and Ryan convene to discuss the implications of the sale, and what it means for the series. They go on to discuss Ridley Scott's role in the franchise and whether or not Alien should leave the creature behind and explore artificial intelligence. We hope you enjoy this episode.

I've been attempting to track down Charles de Lauzirika for many many years. Charles is an award-winning film director, and one of very few people who have been privy to the innerworkings of the worlds that legendary film director Ridley Scott has created over the course of several decades. After what felt like the impossible, Charles kindly granted Perfect Organism an interview. I am honored and pleased to share that conversation with you now.

In what is our longest show ever, clocking in at over 2.5 hours, JM, Ryan, and Patrick are joined by our roundtable hosts Mykal and Dave, and special guest MUTHUR9000. This is a really special episode as we talk to MUTHUR9000 about her entry into the world of Alien, her first memories, favorite scenes, and her opinion on Alien: Covenant. This episode is a second chapter in an ongoing and heated discussion over Alien: Covenant, and Ridley Scott's latest comments that have proven incredibly divisive among the fans. The last hour of the show, Ryan, Patrick and JM read our user feedback and comments. Enjoy!

JM and Patrick sit down for an impromptu discussion surrounding Ridley Scott's latest comments that the alien has run its course. These words have sent a shockwave through a VERY fractured and broken fandom, leaving many of us enraged, and scratching our heads. Patrick and JM upack this revelation. Let us know your opinion!

In this in-depth episode, Patrick sets out to create the definitive account of his favorite unfilmed script: Vincent Ward and John Fasano's legendary Alien III, set on the wood-paneled planetoid of Arceon.
You'll hear firsthand accounts by some of the creative forces behind this fascinating story, as well as extensive analysis of what might've worked, what might've flopped, and what ultimately survived into David Fincher's film. You'll also get the full background on how Ward was brought into the picture, where his unique ideas might've come from, and why he was ultimately ejected from the project.
Patrick also goes through the script in detail, providing his own dramatic synopsis alongside tightly integrated music cues—hopefully giving some sense of what it might've felt like to watch the film, had it been made.
Speaking of the script: if you'd like the read the complete thing, it's available here, for free!

In this minisode, Jaime discusses and summarizes David Twoy's Alien 3 script, what was derived from it, and ultimately utilized in the final version of the film. There is a scene by scene comparison of one particular moment in Twohy's script, and the audio from Fincher's version. Enjoy.

In this minisode—the first in a series of three—Ryan tackles the horrifying, fascinating script written by legendary sci-fi figure William Gibson all the way back in 1987. Gibson's script, which he titled Alien III, explodes with innovative ideas, memorable characters, and high-budget setpieces.
Although it was never filmed (and indeed was followed by nearly a dozen subsequent script rewrites), Gibson's ghostly story has influenced subsequent Alien Saga films in some very real and noticeable ways—perhaps none more so than Alien: Covenant.
Before we got Alien 3, we nearly had Alien III.
This is its story.

Perfect Organism Podcast has been steadily at work on a feature-length audio drama, chronicling the lives of a pair of siblings who struggle to survive the alien invasion at the Hadley's Hope Colony on LV426, as seen in James Cameron's seminole film, ALIENS. Proximity is currently in production, with a target release date of October, 2017. Stay tuned! Proximity is written and directed by JM Prater, produced by Perfect Organism Podcast, starring Patrick Greene, Micah Greene, Bradford Eckhart, and Kevin Duffield.
Patrick and JM discuss their own personal heroes in the world of science fiction. From Princess Leia, to Mary Poppins, to Rick Deckard, and yes, even Superman, heroes across decades are discussed at length. This episode was a joy to create. We really hope all of you enjoy it.
Dave, Mykal, and Patrick hold down the fort this week with a two-part episode about beginnings. The first half is a breakdown and discussion of the fascinating “Advent” short included on the home release of Alien: Covenant; the second half is a heartfelt exploration of how love for the franchise is passed from generation to generation. The episode ends with a number of call-ins, emails, and messages we received from you. We were honored to feature your original stories on the show, and can’t wait to hear more in the future!
This is Perfect Organism's third round table episode. In this episode, JM, Ryan, Patrick, Mykal and Dave discuss stepping out on our own, with a new discussion group, and an exciting and inclusive future where fans of ALL films can discuss their love, without fear. We believe the future is Alien, and it's an exciting one.
The guys at Perfect Organism have begun a new podcast, the only one of its kind centered around visionary Ridley Scott's masterpiece, Blade Runner. Give it a listen and show some love on the Shoulder of Orion Facebook page if you can.
In this episode, Ryan and Dave sit down to discuss where the ALIEN series can go and the recent news post release of ALIEN: Covenant.
On this episode, JM discusses all things Blade Runner with Ryan Allen, the founder of Blade Runner Reality instagram account which has a huge following, and the coinciding Facebook group of the same name. JM and Ryan deconstruct Blade Runner, it's affects in our culture, how it changed us as people, and the upcoming sequel. We hope you enjoy.
JM is joined by special guest Patrick Greene as they go toe-to-toe, in the best possible way. This epsiode is, for all intents and purposes, a debriefing from what's been a crazy ride up through the release of Covenant. Fandom is in an interesting place. We discuss it all. We hope you enjoy!
Dave and JM sit down with ALIEN: Covenant concept designers Dane Hallett and Matt Hatton. We'd like to personally thank both of them for taking time out to be interviewed for our show. What a treat it was. Enjoy!

Enjoy!
JM is joined by the esteemed William Robbie, founder and captain of The Weyland Yutani Bulletin, the largest and most active ALIEN-specific group on social media. In this episode, JM and Bill discuss how fandom has received Covenant, the effects that continue to reverberate and polarize fans of the film, since Covenants release. Warning, if you like or love ALIEN: Covenant, you might not want to listen to this. If you choose to listen, we hope that you can do so objectively. These are the opinions of two people, and they're strong ones. Enjoy.
The Perfect Organism Roundtable convenes to get into our first reactions surrounding the release of ALIEN: Covenant. Jm, Ryan, Mykal, and Dave are joined by Ooge, a senior admin and member of The Weyland Yutani Bulletin to discuss what we saw. This was a yet another really fun and informative episode.
JM and Ryan make another entry into The Weyland Yutani Bulletin Speaks series. This time, everything centers around Neill Blomkamp's project. JM also walks through the timeline of the announcement of Blomkamp's film, and the events that surround it, including official, and on the record comments made by Sigourney Weaver, Rildey Scott, and Blomkamp himself.
JM and Roundtable co-host Dave sit down to discuss and review Jed Kurzel's score for ALIEN: Covenant. We also discuss our reaction to the 14 minutes of Covenant footage we screened with ALIEN on Alien Day 2017. Brutal. As always, thanks for listening.

This episode finds us sending off Private Hudson in our own way, honoring Bill Paxton's legacy, and his place in our own lives. We then move on to discuss the latest trailer for Alien Covenant, in-depth. This was a fantastic episode. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it!
Stasis Interrupted is a category intended for our one off shows that aren't exactly typical episodes for us. This episode is particularly poignant, as this was host Peter Haight's last formal show with Perfect Organism (he will be back here and there). We send him off with our best regards. Peter helped to build Perfect Organism to the show that it is today. Thank you, Peter.
JM, Ryan and Peter read an unfinised scripted entitled ALIEN : GENESIS, which picks up, months after Ripley 8 has crash landed on earth, and settled in New Russia. JM also reads a portion of a completed (and discarded) script entitled ALIEN : RISING, again, picking up moments after The Betty, from Alien Resurrection, breaks into Earth's atmosphere. We hope you enjoy. A lot of editing and time went into this show.
Enjoy!
JM and Ryan get together the recent news surrounding the prospects of Neill Blomkamp directing an ALIEN film, and an ALIEN universe beyond Ripley. We also discuss the recent statements from James Cameron about the validity of more films, and what it all could mean.
Ryan, Peter and JM, got together to record what I feel like is some of our best work yet. Particularly, for myself (JM), I was able to discuss, in depth why science fiction is important, and the layers that great sci-fi stories and films can present, should we give it the thought, time and space. On this episode, the crew discusses the first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2049, our first impressions, Arrival...the nature of androids, man's ethics when it comes to how we treat our creation, language, and so much more. Please join us for a great discussion.
In this episode Jaime and Ryan further investigate every moment from the long awaited trailer for Alien: Covenant. We leave no stone unturned and even wax poetic about what constitutes great science fiction, the fickle and never happy fan community and so much more. Peter is on hiatus from the show until he's fully moved in and settled. Join us for what is one of our best episodes yet.
