Podcast Title: The Lost Literature Conference - MSRSC 1981
Episode Description:
In partnership with preservingthemessage.org, this episode explores the transformative Mid-South Regional Service Conference of 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee. Initially conceived as a standard Regional Service Conference, it evolved into a powerful literature conference with a mission that changed the course of Narcotics Anonymous history.
We discuss the incredible dedication of over eighty members who represented nineteen states and poured their hearts into the labor of love that was the Basic Text. Despite exhaustion and the challenge of the work, many participants extended their stay to support the growth of the fellowship, driven by an unwavering commitment to service.
The episode sheds light on the monumental tasks accomplished, including the approval and initial printing of the Basic Text, ensuring that every member who wanted a copy would have access to it. We also delve into the pivotal decisions made by the W.S.C. Policy Sub-Committee, which convened for the first time outside California to work on revising the Service Manual, demonstrating a remarkable effort to support NA’s expanding global fellowship.
Join us as we honor the perseverance and spiritual growth embodied by this conference and celebrate the enduring message of recovery. This collaborative episode, enriched with insights from preservingthemessage.org, reflects on the profound impact of this historic event and the spirit of progress that continues to guide NA today.
This week on The Living Clean Podcast, we sit down with a truly instrumental figure in the creation of our beloved Basic Text—Motorcycle Ed. As someone deeply involved in the service work that helped shape Narcotics Anonymous literature, Ed shares his personal journey, the pivotal moments, and the collective effort behind bringing the Basic Text to life. Join us for an insightful conversation as we explore the dedication, passion, and history that laid the foundation for NA’s core message of recovery. This is a must-listen for anyone interested in the roots of NA service work and the story behind the text that has impacted so many lives.
