Banshees of Inisherin was directed by Martin McDonagh and won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy. Colin Farrell also won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actor for his performance. While the film is full of well executed humor, it is the sad story of a friendship ending, legacy, and coming to terms with life's changes. McDonagh has once again written and directed an excellent black comedy.
Goodnight Mommy is an Austrian film directed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz. This film takes on very interesting perspective changes as it keeps you moving through its ominous and creepy tone. While this is a horror film, it has a very nuanced family dynamic that makes the story feel more rich and real. We are certain that this is a much better film than the 2022 American version.
The Descent was released in 2005 and was directed by Neil Marshall. This movie was dedicated to his dog that passed during filming and we don't thing the dog would be proud. For a film that follows a group of friends venturing into a cave it lacks any depth. This film is not worth watching but our review is worth listening to.
The Bad Seed was released 1956 and is an adaptation of a stage play by the same name. Many of the actors from the stage play even reprise their roles in the film. The film discusses the merits of nature vs nurture in the most boring way possible, but it is very quotable and a lot of fun to watch!
In Bruges was released in 2008 and was written and directed by Martin McDonagh (Seven Psychopaths, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri). In Bruges is a fantastic black comedy with a surprising amount of depth and nuance. Costars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell play off each other in an amazing way and deliver some of the best comedic dialog.
Requiem is one of Darren Aronofsky's early films a depict the lives of four drug addicts and their spiral into oblivion. While we think this film is valuable and gives the audience a powerful perspective of addiction it's probably not a great movie for date night.

Noah was released in 2014 and was directed by Darren Aronofsky. This director has tackled biblical stories in other films but in Noah he goes full Bible with his own unique take on the story of the great flood. This film drew the ire of the Catholic church and other denominations as it wasn't the truest adaptation of the Christian story. While this may not be Aronofsky's strongest film it asks real questions and we had an interesting conversation surrounding the characters and message of this film.

Memoria was directed by Apichatpong (Joe) Weerasethakul and was released in theaters in 2021 and will never be released in any other medium or streaming on any service. Memoria is a guided meditative experience where the narrative is loosely defined. This film won't be for everyone but it is worth sitting down and giving a watch if you are willing to try out a different kind of film.

Fresh was directed by Mimi Cave and was written by Lauryn Kahn. You can find this film on Hulu and it's certainly worth a watch despite it not being the social commentary it tried to be. This is a fine film with an excellent first 30 minutes.
Happening was directed by Audrey Diwan and tells the story of a young women named Anne who is dealing with an unwanted pregnancy in 1960's France. This is a very personal story that tackles a major issue. This is a fantastic film and it's worth your time.
In this episode we'll look at reviews, articles and comments from the director himself and weigh in on these comments and determine if we even watched the same movie.

Men was directed and written by Alex Garland and is the story of a women escaping to the English country side after a traumatic event. Is this a film about a women's trauma? Is it about toxic masculinity? Or is it just weird for the sake of being weird. We'll discuss that and more on this episode.

Hatching is a Finnish horror film directed by Hanna Bergholm. This film follows the story of a young girl who can never do anything right in her mothers eyes. But something dark has joined the family and it will change them forever.
One episode wasn't enough for us. We needed to discuss this fantastic film further. This episode will dive deeper into what this film means and a discussion surrounding it's importance and the internet in general.
"We're all Going to the Worlds Fair" was directed by Jane Schoenbrun and is a masterful depiction of the internet horror culture. It will grab you with its characters and linger with you. This is not a standard horror film with lazy jump scares. It will confront you and leave you asking for more. This is a film that deserved your attention.
Drive my car was directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi and is based on a short story by the same name. This film won the 2022 Oscar for best international film. While duration of this film might turn many off to it, it is packed with powerful and intimate moments that make the film worth watching.
The Northman is directed by Robert Eggers, the creative mind behind the Witch and the Lighthouse. While the Northman doesn't reach the meditative and psychological peaks of it's predecessors, it is a well made film with a great cast.
Belfast was directed by Kenneth Branagh and was a 2022 best picture nominee. This is a sweet little film surrounded by a serious event told through the eyes of a child. This film feels very personal to Branagh, as if you're watching one of his memories.

Licorice Pizza was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and start Alana Haim and Copper Hoffman. Licorice Pizza was a best picture nominee and we don't understand why. In this episode we'll discuss the motivation of the characters, their odd relationship and changes we would make to salvage this story.
Everything Everywhere all at Once was written and directed by the Daniels. Their previous work includes "Swiss Army Man" and the "Turn Down for What" music video. This film is part family drama, syfy spectacle, surreal journey and action thriller. This film is truly a one of a kind experience and a film that should be on your "must see" list.
A Ghost Story was written, directed and funded by David Lowery. Released in 2017, this film follows the incorporeal journey traveling through time. We discovery the cyclical nature of time and the ghost discovers new aspects of himself. Don't let the title fool you, this is not your typical haunting.
Turning Red is Pixar's newest film and is directed by Domee Shi. Is this only a story about a girl coming of age or is it much more? Join us as we over analyze this film and discuss some of the controversy surrounding it. Pandas, periods and pals, what more could you ask for.
The Worst Person in the World is a Norwegian film directed by Joachim Trier. This film won awards at the Cannes Film Festival and has been nominated for an Oscar. This film is a delightful slice of life, filled with excellent comedic moments and impactful emotion. Because this is not an English speaking film it didn't see great returns in the box office but you can, take some time and watch this wonderful film. It's an absolute gem.
The Power of the Dog was released at the tail end of 2021 and received 12 Academy Award nominations. Is this story important? Is it worth 12 nominations? Or is it bogged down by bad editing and uninteresting characters? We'll thoroughly discuss the film that is taking the film awards world by storm in this episode.
In this episode we'll dive into the differences in aesthetic, score, and scenes between the 2021 and 2015 retelling of Macbeth. Get ready for fireworks because Connor and Calvin agree on almost nothing, did we even watch the same movie? We hope you have as much fun listening as we did making this review.
In this episode we'll be comparing the Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) to the 2015 version of Macbeth staring Fassbender. Both of these films tell the same classic story but in very different ways. This episode will cover the differences in the portrayals of each character.
Welcome to part 2 of our review and discussion of Borgman. In this section we'll discuss theories, who is Borgman, what is Borgman and what is the massage of this movie. Spoiler alert, we don't really know. There is so much going on in this film that it's hard to pin down one single message but it sure is fun to discuss some theories.
Borgman was directed by Alex van Warmerdam and released in 2013. This may be the single strangest film we've reviewed so far. Its hard to pin down the message of this film but we'll do our best. In part one we'll discuss the aesthetic, basic narrative and the characters. Stay tuned for part 2. This film is a doozy!
Ready Player One was released in 2018 and was directed by Steven Spielberg. If you long for nostalgia and the opportunity to see your favorite video game, television, movie and comic book characters crowding a screen then Ready Player One is the movie for you. This movie seems to have no message besides being critical of escapism, which is what the movie itself is trying to be.
Welcome to part two of our discussion and the conclusion of Ready Player Two. We'll cover the challenges and ending of this book. What works in this book, what doesn't and what things would we have changed. Spoiler alert, almost nothing works in this book. I'm thankful to be finished with this book and if there is a God I hope he stops Ernest Cline from writing more books.

Ready Player Two was written by Ernest Cline and is the sequel to his undeservingly well received Ready Player One. Though we were able to find some bright spots in this book it suffers from all the same problems as it's predecessor. Poor writing, unlikable characters and not a single original idea to be found. So sit back, relax and enjoy part one of our book club discussion of Ready Player Two.

Don't Look Up was directed by Adam McKay who is known for political comedies like Vice (2018) and The Big Short (2015) as well as straight forward comedies such as The Other Guys (2010) and Anchorman (2004). The wacky premise of this film speaks to the directors growing concern over climate change but it can really be used as a commentary on any politically or socially charged issue. This film is either too real to be funny or so real that all you can do is laugh.
Inside Out was released in 2015 and saw major success in the box office. In this episode we'll be discussing what worked and what didn't work in this film. This grew from more of a review and into a discussion of elements we would have liked to see introduced into this film and ideas for changes we would have liked to see. This was an excellent film to review and it lead down some really fun rabbit holes.
Tenet is directed by Christopher Nolan and did not save cinema. The film was released in September of 2020 and met a mediocre reception in theaters because it was put out in the worst time possible and not because it's a bad movie. While it has it has it's problems narratively, this film is without a doubt a visual spectacle. If you want to sit back and watch a fun movie that tricks you into thinking it's smart than Tenet is the film for you.
One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest is considered an all time classic. Both the film and the novel appear in must read or must watch lists across the internet. Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher give amazing performances that really make this film worthy of praise. We'll discuss what works and what doesn't work in this film and if it really should be considered a classic.
Edge of Tomorrow hit theaters in 2014 and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. This Ground Hog Day action packed syfy film was directed by Doug Liman and it's engaging from start to finish. For a big budget science fiction film it has a surprising amount of good humor that fits in well with the wacky premise. This one goes down as an NTIP favorite and we highly recommend you see this one if you haven't already.
Casablanca was released in 1943 and is considered a classic of cinema. Some of the most referenced scenes and lines exist in this film. In this episode we'll cover the good and bad of Casablanca and try to understand what makes this film so iconic.
Welcome to part two and the conclusion of our discussion on Ready Player One. We will cover the various challenges the High Five must go through and discuss the themes and meaning of this book. Also, who is this book for? Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoyed the first instalment of our Book Club. This was also a collaboration with the gaming channel "Dad By Day Gamer By Night" so go check out that channel if you're interested in fun gaming content.
Before Ready Player One was block buster in theaters it was a book written by Ernest Cline and Published in 2011. In part one of our discussion we'll cover the world of Ready Player One, Cline's writing style and the characters. This was also a collaboration with the gaming channel "Dad By Day Gamer By Night" so go check out that channel if you're interested in fun gaming content.
This film was directed by Taika Waititi and was released in 2019. Jojo Rabbit is the Nazi comedy you've been waiting for! This satirical look at WWII Germany delivers an important and dark story while still remaining palatable to a general audience. We really enjoyed this film and hope you do to.
We're back with another Denis Villeneuve film which was suggested by a fan. This is a French speaking film that is an absolutely wild ride and will keep you engaged from start to finish. Denis bring a Middle East family drama to life in the most unimaginable way possible. Put this on your list
Krampus was released in 2015 and was the first feature length film for director Michael Dougherty, now known for the 2021 iteration of Godzilla vs Kong. Krampus is the best mix of Christmas spirit, comedy and horror you can find. An absolute Christmas classic.
The web slinger is back in another Marvel spectacle. If you have been tracking the MCU or are just interested in a fun time at the theater this is the movie for you. We had fun with it and hope you do to.
Music: Written by Alexander Nakarada. Added January, 2020. This music is available for commercial and non-commercial purposes. (FreePD.com)
Nightmare Alley is Guillermo del Toro's newest film. This carnival noir features Cate Blanchett over acting and Bradley Cooper in his most miss cast roll. Watch it if you have to, Spiderman also came out this weekend so we don't blame you if you didn't see it.
Welcome to Part 2 of our Pan's Labyrinth review. In this section we'll dive deeper into characters like the Faun, Ofelia, Vidal and Mercedes and how they operate within the film. We'll also discuss how the fairytale is works in the narrative and problems and possible fixes for this story.
Pan's Labyrinth may be director Guilermo del Toro's most well know film. Released in 2006, this Spanish speaking fantasy follows a young girl named Ofelia and her adventures through a dark fantasy set in fascist Spain. In Part 1 we'll discuss the look of this film, the practical and visual effects and the characters. Stay tuned for Part 2.
Cronos was released in 1993 and is director Gurimo del Toro's first feature length film. Cronos is oddly vague and unimaginative with it's camera work but for a first attempt it is serviceable. del Toro is a unique director and we are thankful that he got another crack at feature length films following the unimpressive Cronos.
The Shawshank Redemption is directed by Frank Darabont and is an adaptation of the Stephen King novel by the same name. Shawshank is a film that has existed as a Hollywood classic seeming since its release in 1994, but what makes it a classic? What works and what doesn't work in this movie? We'll cover those topics in this Quick Dip.
Why is Jaws the first and most discussed block buster of all time? what steps lead to this classic being released and what is it about this movie that has captured so many people for so long. We will be breaking down that and more in this review of Jaws.
Black Swan was released in 2010 and is Darren Aronofsy's 5th feature length film. Black Swan explores the subconscious and shadow self of Nina, played by Natalie Portman. The film is rife archetypes and metaphors that seem to be drawn straight from Psychologist Carl Jung's theories. Or the characters are so boring and the plot is laid out in such an obvious way that the narrative is stale. Aranofsky never fails to deliver a movie that causes controversy when discussed. And for all the dude bros out there that only saw this film because Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis kiss, maybe it's time that you took off your backward facing hat and listened to a nice review and analysis of the film.
The Humans is the directorial debut of Stephen Karam. The film is based on the Tony Award winning one act stage play of the same name that was also written by Stephen Karam. Despite this being Karam's first feature length film he captures the family drama in the most nuanced and authentic way possible. We peak in on a family during Thanksgiving dinner and the slow building set pieces lead to a dark and wonderful close out of the film that you just don't see very often. We loved this film but we recommend that you take some time and go and see it yourself. Happy Thanksgiving!
Darren Aronofsky certainly has a way of making films that are interesting to discuss. "Mother!" is an alienating, pretentious train wreck that is so obvious in it's story telling it is almost unwatchable... Or it is an anxiety inducing masterpiece filled with wonderful biblical allegories, masterful camera work and performances that build the story to an epic climax. Watch it and find out where you land on the spectrum.
Anonymous Animals is written and directed by French film maker Baptiste Rouveure. Anonymous Animals is a film without dialog and has a run time just over an hour. Despite the short run time and lack dialog this film manages to beat you over the head with it's message. That being said it is an interesting film and worth watching if you want an exercise in understanding the language of film.
This Netflix original is directed by Jeyems Samuel and features a robust cast including Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba. This unique take on the western genre is a breath of fresh air in terms of featuring an African American cast in a primarily white saturated genre. While this film has it's short comings it is one of the better Netflix originals to be released lately.
Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 are early films in director Sam Raimi's career. These colt classics will leave you feeling something...Whether you find then enjoyable, confusing or down right bad, they are still technically films so we reviewed them.
"The Fly" features Jeff Golblum and more practical effects than you can handle. Director Jeff Cronenberg tell a story of transformation, abuse and identity. This quick dip explores the wacky side of 80's horror.
This is the third and final part (for now) of our Midsommar review. We discuss theories, questions we have regarding the film, our final thoughts and what we personally take away from this film.
We continue our deep dive into Ari Asters Midsommar with a discussion covering runes and tapestries, but mostly runes. This was a fascinating episode to record and I hope you learn as much as we did.
From the director of Hereditary, Ari Aster delivers again with this chilling and unique daylight horror. We're starting out this multi part deep dive of Midsommar with a discussion covering the look of this film, the score and characters.

Welcome to part two of our review on "Hereditary." We'll be discussing Paimon, the coven and our overall view of this film. We hope you enjoyed diving deep into this film as much as we did.
Hereditary (2018) is director Ari Aster's feature length debut. This gut wrenching family drama with paranormal elements will have you feeling anxious and uncomfortable in all the right ways. The film may put you in a mood but don't lose your head over this review.
If you're interested in spending an hour and a half of your life watching a movie that isn't any good then do we have a movie for you! "Wish Upon" is a masterpiece in all the wrong ways but this accidental comedy is worth checking out.
Lamb is directed by Valdimar Jóhannsson and stars Noomi Rapace. We wont bust your chops if you don't like this review, but you're a sheep if you don't go see this one.
Welcome to part two of our review and analysis of the 2015 film the Witch. In this episode we discuss character archetypes, symbolism, motifs and the subtext of the film. We also dive into the witch itself and what it means in todays society.
In the first part of our review of the Witch we'll be covering the look of the film, the sound, performances and some scenes we found to be important. Part 2 will cover symbols and their meanings, character archetypes and rich subtext of this film. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it.
Kung Fury may not be long but it is packed full of action. We thoroughly enjoyed watching this one together. It's goofy in all the right ways and the fun visuals and synth score make this a much watch.
Denis is back at it again with one of the most visually stunning films we've ever seen. The look of the film is accompanied by a compelling story chalked full of biblical references and Jungian psychology. Ryan Gosling leads a cast that gave wonderful performances throughout the entire film. This film is the definition of style with substance.
The boys are back together here to discuss this classic syfy film. We discuss the score, characters, cinematography and a bunch of fun facts. We're excited to enjoy this film with you. Get the popcorn out and hit play.
In this syfy epic Amy Adams portrays Louise, a linguist in a film that fails to communicate any real message. Stunning visuals and a well crafted score help to keep this film entertaining. Denis Villeneuve manages to take a script that was lacking and put something palatable on screen. The heptapods are dope though.
Get your pop corn ready and join us on our commentary of "The Tomorrow War" (2021). Chris Pratt stars in this Amazon original that I can only assume was created by an algorithm that was designed by an alien, I mean Jeffrey Bezos. I hope you enjoy this film as much as we did, which wasn't much.
Join us we discuss another one of Denis Villeneuve films, Sicario (2015). This is an expertly crafted south of the boarder suspense thriller with great action beats. This subdued take on another genre film exemplifies Villenueve's ability to build tension and anxiety within his films. Sicario is a compelling must watch which is par for the course regarding Villenueve's films.
A quick review of the 2021 film "Sweet Girl." Join us as we ask the important questions about this film like, why was this even mad.
A review of the 2013 film "Prisoners." Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal share the screen and give wonderful performances in this dark crime thriller. Join us as we discuss characters, camera work and the odd choice to include Bobby Taylor in this film.
