Before closing out another season of the podcast we were able to sneak in a 2nd Beau-nuss episode back by popular demand!  We talk all about Disney Sorcerer's Arena: Epic Alliances game from The OP.  We dig into the Core Set and the two expansions for the game.  We also get to sit down with Sean Fletcher the designer of the game for an interview about the game and the design.  He also announces The OP's Road to Gencon a competition level event for the game that will lead to a big culmination tournament at GenCon!

On this installment of The Board Boys, we visit Europe and use some "Unique Abilities" in the game Tiletum from Board & Dice from Simone Luciani and Daniele Tascini.  Cam also takes a different sort of trip to Peru again.  We also compare rappers to game designers and revisit 2022 with our year in review segment and go over some BGStats as well.  Beau stops by for a quick Plug or Beef Hotseat. We also revisit the Zoo with Ark Nova and talk about some other games Sniper Elite, The Bloody Inn, Verdant, Karuba, and San Fran Ticket to Ride!  We also Bump or Dump Windward!  As always we hope you like boardgames!

In Mombasa, players acquire shares of chartered companies based in Cape Town, Mombasa, Cairo and Saint Louis. Using a shared map, players then spread their trading posts (also shared) throughout the African continent in order to earn the most money. Also this episode: the boys get really, really into Toto; Cam talks about his rebellious days attending a Cascada show in Texas; Rob pokes holes in Home Alone.

The boys are back for with another bonus episode. This episode the boys were able to preview the latest release from Spielcraft Games, the Champions Expansion for For Glory. For Glory is the game of gladiatorial combat and deckbuilding and the new expansion introduces some interesting new mechanisms, introduces solo mode and increases player count to three or four players. Your favorite boys are back to tackle the latest, greatest from Flatout Games, Cascadia. In Cascadia players take turns drafting tiles and tokens to fill out their environment with as much synergy as possible. Five different species must all coexist in five unique landscapes to score as many points as possible. Also this episode: Rob is obsessed with Applebees and winning money; Cam finally gets a new phone ... after a lot of shenanigans, Josh was able to finally play a board game ... well ... kinda.

Your favorite boys are back to tackle the latest, greatest from Final Frontier Games, Merchants Cove. It's crazy to think that a game has eight unique, asynchronous players but someone this game manages to pull it off really, really well. Also this episode: the boys spend a little too much time talking about their fast food jobs growing up; Josh sucks at math; the boys make their NFL predictions for their favorite teams; and Rob rips a stinker that somehow gets blamed on Josh. Your favorite boys are back, tackling the final installment in Eric Lang's CMON trilogy, Ankh - Gods of Egypt. The boys waged war as Egyptian Gods and Goddesses, sacrificing followers and raising temples, obelisks and pyramids along the way. Normally we'd say only one player wins, but with a clever merge mechanism anythings possible. Also this episode: Josh reminds us that the soundtrack to The Prince of Egypt friggin' slapped; Ben forgot he played games; and Cam gives Rob the 411 on pumping and dumping.

Board Boys Cam and Josh recently headed to Nebraska City, NE for ATBCon2020. The con was a blast and provided a unique opportunity for the boys to preview the upcoming KS game, For Glory. The two-player deck builder pits rival gladiator schools against each other - providing unique decisions as players build up their schools; their reputation; and their gladiators before ultimately sending them to battle. We don't normally preview KS games but For Glory was too good to not discuss. Look for it on Feb 4th!

This week the boys revisit the first game they ever played for the podcast BUT this time they're in outer space in Gaia Project! A lot of folks refer to this game as Terra Mystica 2.0. Your favorite Viking boys are back. This week they're raiding villages and pillaging strongholds in Raiders of the North Sea from Renegade Game Studios and Garphill Games. The boys built their raiding parties, presented their offerings and battled for glory in this Viking-inspired worker placement game. Also this episode: It's the return of "Beef or Plug", Rob battles the local teens, Campbell takes issue with Goofy, Josh flames on a game (big surprise) and Ben aka Gart Wolfslinger hangs around for a bit.

This week your favorite boys traveled overseas to visit the bustling port city of Yokohama - who knew 1868 Japan could be so much fun? In Yokohama, each player is a merchant broadening their sales channels, investing in technology and completing contracts. Only one player comes out on top and (spoiler) ... it wasn't Campbell! Also this episode: Rob and Josh road-tripped to BGG Con and didn't kill each other (we think), Disney+ is a thing and Chris from Meeple Overboard is here to help with a new segment!

The boys fought for their lives (in space) this week in Nemesis from Awaken Realms. This semi-cooperative horror, survival, exploration game could easily be described as "Alien the board game" but there is so much more to it than that. Relationships were tested, friends became enemies, enemies became friends, and Rob threw a Molotov at Campbell. Also this episode: Josh is back and talks a bit about his Cardboard Caucus experience, Ben and Rob play more games and Campbell has a Molotov thrown at him.

Well we did it ... another season of TBBP is in the books. We close out this chapter on Season Four with a play of Architects of the West Kingdom from Renegade Game Studios/Garphill Games. Things get spooky this week as the boys worked together to defeat ancient Lovecraftian beasts in Eldritch Horror. Travel Scrabble Ben was stuck in time and space this week so the boys asked The Dealt Hand to join their adventure as they battled cultists and solved mysteries around the world. Also this episode: Joe shares all the details on Iowa's hottest board game popup, Josh gets critical of Medium, Campbell plays a floppy hat game he doesn't love and Rob takes an extended trip to Beau's corner.

Within the charming valley of Everdell, a civilization of forest critters is thriving and expanding. Also, frog ambassadors from the land of Pearlbrook are hella dope. This week we ventured outside the BGG Top 100 for a stroll through the forest in Everdell. Tableaus were built, resources were collected and critters were acquired in this worker placement/resource management/set collection (kinda) eurogame. Also this episode: Ben shares the best nickname, Josh intros and Rob and Cam played a Feld (shocker!).

What do you get when you mix animal mating, a feeding mechanism, pale ones and a million Agricola references? Obviously you get Caverna: The Cave Farmers by Uwe Rosenburg. This week your favorite boys (minus Ben), and guest Cody Lenhart, break down Uwe's highest rated game on the BGG Top 100 list. Welp, it finally happened. It only took four seasons, but we're finally doing a feature episode on a game NOT currently on the BGG Top 100. We generally take this qualifier seriously, but Black Angel from Pearl Games had our full attention at Gen Con. It may currently be 4,269, but it's number one in our hearts. Also this episode: the boys answer the ultimate gaming question - which original Monopoly piece is best? Ben's board game collection continues to expand and the boys introduce a new contest!

Still recovering from Gen Con 2019? Don't worry we are too. This year Rob, Campbell and Josh made the annual trek to Indianapolis, Indiana for the best four days in gaming. Hanging alongside 70k attendees, the boys bought, played and learned about so many great games hitting the market later this year. Josh was on vacation this week at San Diego Comic Con and specifically requested we play a game he'd hate. So, this week we ventured overseas to visit the Grand Austria Hotel. Rob, Campbell and Ben pushed the game to its limits in one of the closest finishes we've ever recorded! Welp, it finally happened ... The Board Boys finally played Campbell's favorite game, The Castles of Burgundy. There is a lot to love in this classic point salad, thinker stinker, but is it enough to offset the massive lack of theme? Luckily the boys were joined by Rob's best half, his wife Amy, to help breakdown one of Stefan Feld's most popular titles. Also this game, Campbell fills us in on his recent trip to Croatia, Amy and Rob highlight their favorite party game in Cool Game Corner and Josh bones out.

This week your favorite boys grabbed their hair nets and aprons to run a booming fast food empire in Food Chain Magnate. Splotter games has always been known for their intricate mechanisms ... did this game live up to that reputation? Did Ben's price gouging strategy work? This episode the boys are traveling to the future, then back to the past, then to the future again and to the past ... again, in Anachrony. Time travel can be a real pain, especially when you don't remember to return those two water that you borrowed from Jimmy and accidentally open a space anomaly in the process. Also this episode, Ben shares his love for patios, Campbell explains that patios and decks are not the same thing, Rob launches a new podcast about patios and Josh is apathetic to patios.

The sun is setting on the first day of your march across a land that borders on the familiar. You scale a hill and watch as the lights in a village to the west go out, one by one. Mortals need sleep, but as a Mage Knight, you don't feel the slightest bit fatigued, despite your earlier encounter with a small group of marauding orcs. This week the board boys ventured Atlantean cities, monasteries, dungeons and more in Mage Knight. Also this episode, Ben makes an important announcement.

We took an actual field trip this episode to Reiman Gardens in Ames, IA to celebrate the launch of their summer event 'Nature of the Game'. Besides playing life-sized checkers, chess and connect four on the lawn, we also got in plays of our favorite garden games, Photosynthesis and Arboretum. Also this episode we sit down with volunteer coordinator, Taylor Woodcock, to learn a bit more about the event, its inspiration and the awesome activations planned throughout the year. It's TBBP live from the garden!

Season Four is officially here and your favorite boys couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than by traveling to ... umm 1200 France? Turns out 1200 France rules when you're constructing cathedrals in Troyes. The boys pit their dice against each other to take home glory, but who emerged victorious? Also this episode: Josh embraces his new, favorite catch phrase, Rob is excited to retire a bit, Campbell tries a new segment ... that doesn't work and Ben spoils the group with sweets.

We close the curtain on season three this week with a banger. Josh had to bow out for the season finale, but your other favorite Board Boys were joined by local Italian food fan, Joseph 'Probably Has A Cool Middle Name' Summers, to rule the deserts in Five Tribes. It isn't often that our podcast lines up with Kickstarter so we took full advantage this week, breaking down Leder Game's hit, Root. With guest, David, the Board Boys battled for glory in this game of woodland might and right. The boys battled, traded, built buildings and cried ... only a little (Josh at least) in their quest for forest domination. Also this episode: Josh has a genuine beef, Rob gets into the family business, Campbell finally squashes his greatest beef and David shares his Magic secrets.

Early March in Iowa is the perfect time to dream about trading in the Mediterranean. The sounds of the ocean breeze and daydreaming about silk, wine, tools and bricks, beautiful, beautiful bricks, really keeps the mind at ease. This week the Board Boys ventured east in search of trading routes, silk and prosperity in Concordia. Also this episode: Josh gets gassed, Ben attends his very first bored game convention, Rob ascends to new heights and Campbell divulges his approach to life.

We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than by doing a BONUS Board Boys Birdcast all about the Indigo Bunting, Spotted Sandpiper, BlackBellied Whistling-Duck, Canada Goose, Turkey Vulture, Bewick's Wren, American Coot, Yellow-Breasted Chat, Chimney Swift, Peregrine Falcon, Barn Swallow and all our other favorite types of birds.

That's great, it starts with a board game. Wood, gold and corn or maize, Board Boy Cam is not afraid. This week your favorite boys are back to spin the gears, earn the gods' favor and feed their people in Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar. Each board boy put up their personal best, but only won could emerge victorious. Also in this episode: Josh drops some professional knowledge, Campbell describes his leak, Ben makes a joke and Rob introduces the world to another new member of The Board Boys Podcast.

Uhhh Doc? I hope The Board Boys have enough road to hit 88 mph... Fortunately, where they're going with honorary Board Boy Ben, they don't need roads! As you've almost certainly guessed based off of those clues, your Most Favorite Boys played their cards right and got their dude Kyle Foote to join them to play Dominion! Life is like a hurricane, here in Des Moines. Bread and cheese is so insane, for the Board Boys. Might brew some whiskey, Kelly Bevins is tricksy! Happy Franksgiving! We played Clans of Caledonia, and one of us traversed the Scottish lochs BEST and took home the W. Also: Josh has one of those days where he don't wanna wake up. Bevins accidentally is Russian. Frank didn't play any board games (but he played Skyrim). Cam is obsessed with a certain wealthy Scottish anthropomorphic duck (No spoilers!)

Giddyup, pardner! The Boys (along with local Atlanta on FX enthusiast Ajka Sehic) saddle up for a life of beans around a campfire and Pace Picante Sauce as they make their way to KCMO on the Great Western Trail! Also: The boys get a Bosnian language lesson. Cam makes too many Kokomo references. Ajka eats a dear friend. Josh gets a life-changing e-mail. Frank insists he really does like board games you guys!!!

The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Look, it was bound to happen eventually -- sometimes plans change, and the boys just had to do this episode guest-free. The three of them went rollin' on the river in Rajas of the Ganges and balanced horses on elephants in Meeple Circus! Also in this episode: Cam dips his toe into ornithology. Frank ponders on how super Superman REALLY is. Josh talks about football... again.

Well, gang, the Boys have done it; it's time to put on cardboard conical hats and light one single candle because it's been a whole year! Unfortunately, you weren't invited to the birthday party, but the good news is the one person we did invite, Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games, showed up with his party pants on. Also included: Frank does a cuss twice and he's real sorry. Josh has inherited his mother's coffee order. Jamey gases up the Boys' egos. Cam does a successful time travel goof involving cheese.

Time to break out your mystical cloaks and your ancient daggers, The Board Boys have set out on an adventure to the Forgotten Realms with DM Kevan Murphy in Lords of Waterdeep! We all quested our best but, in the end, only one can control this thriving port city. Also included: Cam gets stuck in the mud. Josh discusses his freelance rates for creating D&D ambience. Frank has choice words about a local taco establishment.

In this episode, joined by infamous Egyptologist Jon Merkle, your favorite Boys journeyed to the land of the pharaohs and sphinxes and kitties in Kemet! Who was best at using the power of prayer to their advantage? What are Cardi B's and Bow Wow's full names? How does Josh really feel about the late Nate Dogg? What two animals combine to make Jon's true form? All of these pressing questions will be answered! PLUS: Cam debuts a hot new intro tune for "Plug or Beef" and Frank makes up football player names.

Turns out a beautiful tropical island isn't so relaxing when you have to protect it from hoards of ravaging settlers. This week the boys and middle school science teach, Jason Thompson, battled the settlers in Spirit Island by Greater Than Games. In addition to Spirit Island the boys discuss popular 'scientific' theories for the creation of Earth, talk about games they've gotten to the table recently, revisit the value of a game versus the cost of a game and introduce a new segment, 'Plug or Beef?'

The code is 'great - four' can you guess which four words relate to great to win? Board Boys Campbell, Frank, Josh and their guest Jill (aka agent Suddenly Snoozin') sure can. This week the gang takes on Codenames by Czech Games Edition, pitting team Frank/Jill against team Cam/Josh. In addition to breaking down the game the group discusses their favorite movie obscenity edits, the time Jill's mother-in-law won the Price is Right and the other games that have been making it to the table recently.

The boys time traveled to the 1920s in this week's episode, in T.I.M.E Stories by Space Cowboy Games. Joined by the fifth official Board Boy, 'our buddy Rob', the boys traveled through time and space to uncover the mysteries hidden in a 1920s insane asylum. The boys also discuss their recent trip to Gen Con, discussing highlights from the trip and games that got them most jazzed for the future. Rob also talks through his approach for the ultimate game, deciding which game to bring to a board game night.

The Board Boys made their alliances, defended the Wall and battled for control of the Iron Throne this week in Games of Thrones (Second Edition). The boys, and their guest Jason, took on the roles of Houses Stark, Lannister, Greyjoy aka 'Joy Boys' and Baratheon as they battled, backstabbed and bribed their way to victory. In addition in discussing GoT the boys also discuss Josh's recent trip to San Diego Comic Con, what they've been getting to the table recently and where you can meet Josh and Cam at Gen Con!

Josh decided to go on "vacation" this week attending the annual comic book convention in San Diego, but that isn't going to stop the Board Boys from dropping a new bonus episode! Board Boys Cam and Frank finally got to play Campbell's current favorite game, Sidereal Confluence, with help from three of their dearest friends. Together the group dissected the good, the bad and the different in this trading game set in the Elysian quadrant. Did Frank love this game as much as Campbell? Listen now to find out!

Have you ever gazed at the stars and thought "Man, outer space would be the coolest setting for an Opera ... wait, a SPACE Opera." TBBP definitely have and so has Fantasy Flight Games. This week the boys tackled the galactic, universe-sized board game that is Twilight Imperium 4th Ed. The game is huge, the game is long and the game definitely did not disappoint. Joined by their good friend, Terry Tyler Crooks, the boys explored and conquered the farthest reaches of the galaxy in this week's episode.

Sometimes you play a game correctly and have a great time. Sometimes you play a game really, REALLY incorrectly and it ruins the experience. Luckily time travel exists and allows the Board Boys to correct the mistakes made during their Le Havre games. Joined by the unofficial fourth board boy, Ben W., the boys built their tableaus and grew their fishing city empires while struggling to keep their workers fed and happy. Spoiler - Workers don't like extra salted pretzels because they make them thirsty.

Have you ever wondered what happens when the Board Boys and their guest make a terrible, terrible mistake that ruins the play through of the game they planned to play for a new episode? Turns out they turn their frowns upside down with a few games of Karuba! In this week's bonus episode the boys talk about the highs, lows, turns and curves of this tile-laying family game. The boys also dust off one of Campbell's least favorite segments and talk about the benefits of getting a $50,000 podcast donation.

The boys are back and visiting alternate-history 1920s this week in Scythe by Stonemaier Games. Joined by Josh's brother-in-law, David, the boys assumed the role of one of five different Eastern European factions vying for control of 'The Factory' and the enticing technology it possesses. Will Olga and her pet tiger Changa win the day? Or will victory go to Anna and her lovable bear, Wojtek? Will David and his new puppy ever want to play board games with us again? We're putting two of the best abstract games head-to-head in this week's episode. Fighting out the red corner, Azul by Plan B Games and fighting out of the blue corner, Sagrada by Floodgate Games. We went from the windows to the walls in our newest episode and had a heck of a time breaking down two of the best abstract games from 2017.

Our buddy Erik (aka Jeezy) joined us to talk pros, cons and in-betweens about these two darling titles. We also spend some time talking about the good ol' days and pizza.

The Board Boys took the reigns of their own power companies this week in Power Grid by Rio Grande Games. Joined by, the smartest person they've ever met, Becca Park, the boys auctioned power plants, bought resources, built cities and powered the crap outta those cities. Which fuel is best between coal, oil, trash, nuclear and green energy? Find out in this week's episode! The boys also learn a bit about Becca's PHAT brain (she is getting her PhD in Astrophysics), Ricochet Robot and Hanabi.

The Board Boys are back with their first bonus episode of Season Two. In this episode the boys sit down to discuss Kolossal Games with the company's president, Travis Chance. Kolossal Games made a big name for themselves earlier this year with their monumentally successful Kickstarter title, Western Legends. Travis breaks down the company's history, gives us an inside scoop on some of their upcoming releases and gives us a quick glimpse at Kolossal Game's latest Kickstarter success, Imperius.

Season Two is here and is kicking off with a bang! To celebrate the launch of Season Two, TBBP held a day-long board game extravaganza, filled with games, pizza and awesome folks, and capped the night off with a live taping.

Joined by Stephen B., President of Stronghold Games, the boys get an inside look at one of their favorite publishers and what is on the horizon for the team at Stronghold Games, talk about their favorite games from Season One and catch-up with all of our guests from last season.

Our Season One finale is officially here, and we had a heck of a time playing Dead of Winter by Plaid Hat Games. Working together, with local podcaster Brian Campos, the boys ventured into an environment overrun with zombies to scavenge for food, supplies, weapons and additional followers. The Board Boys took a nice vacation this week heading across the pond in Ticket to Ride Europe. From the craggy hillsides of Edinburgh to the sunlit docks of Constantinople, the boys saw it all; laying track and pounding cold ones along the way with help from Des Moines area photographer, Dani Reed. During their travels the boys also recommend some of their favorite 'gateway' games and the toys they loved growing up! Show of hands, who else owned a balancing eagle?

The Board Boys got their beignets, black magic (aka vampires and voodoo) and board games on this week in Orléans by Tasty Minstrel Games.

Joined by fellow Arkham Games gamer, Jared "Probably Has a Cool Last Name" Bearss, the boys built their engines, recruited their knights and ignored their scholars in this beloved worker placement board game. In addition to Orléans the boys break out some new beefs, provide some more detail on their upcoming live taping and talk about Campbell's upcoming trip to Peru.

Board Boy Campbell is off galavanting around Peru, but that isn't going to stop us from dropping an all new BONUS episode of The Board Boys Podcast. We decided it'd be a good (scratch that, great) idea to play Twilight the board game. No not Twilight Imperium, or Twilight Struggle ...Twilight ... like with Vampires and Werewolves and stuff. We revisited the all-time classic debate, #TeamJacob versus #TeamEdward, with help from one of our favorite guests, "ya boi Bell".

The Board Boys ventured into outer space in this week's latest episode, colonizing the red planet in Terraforming Mars by Stronghold Games. Joined by local content creator, board game reviewer, Arnold Palmer (the drink) lover and all-around great guy, David Wiley, the boys slowly made life habitable on Mars.

In this week's newest episode the boys also tackle some new beefs, talk an awful lot about Terraforming Mars, discuss the subtle art of solo and two-player board game reviews and make a huge announcement!

Board Boy Frank's birthday episode is here! In honor of Frank the boys play one of Frank's all-time favorite games, Puerto Rico!

Joined by Frank's step-brother, Jimmy Hobbs, the boys get into the nostalgia of games, their mixed emotions on remastering board (and video) games and talk about how good, bad, great and frustrating the game Puerto Rico can be.

The boys also take their first (and last) spin using a soundboard! Get ready to laugh out loud to the sounds of rapper megaphone, sad horn and 'HAM'.

The Board Boys lived, pillaged and died gloriously this week in Blood Rage by CMON games. Joined by Casey Knue, the boys embraced the coming of Ragnarok while recruiting powerful monsters, upgrading their armies and scoring all the victory points before the ultimate destruction of Earth.

This week the boys also get 'beefy' identifying the 2018 'beefs' they're hoping to start (or continue) throughout the year. Spoiler - Marilyn Manson high school lore and Mobb Deep are officially on notice.

The Board Boys are coming in HOT with another bonus episode. In this weekend's episode we finally completed one of Board Boy Cam's bucket list desires, playing a board game live on the podcast.

To do this we were joined by Casey Knue to play a few rounds of Werewords by Bézier Games. Play along and see if you can figure out the mystery word while also figuring out who the Seeker and the Werewolf may be!

Joined by local board game legend, Rob Pearson, the boys break down the history of Des Moines' growing board game community, the exciting things happening at Arkham Games and Rob shares his tips for starting a quality, lasting game group.

The Board Boys decided to get together over Christmas break to enjoy some delicious cookies, drink all the cocoa and steal most of the jewels, gems and artifacts from Lord Eradikus in Clank! In Space. 

In this week's BONUS episode we take a quick look and discuss our thoughts about Clank! In Space by Renegade Studios.

Members of a 19th-century community fear the strange creatures that inhabit the surrounding forest. PLOT TWIST we didn't watch The Village, but we did play Village in this week's episode. Joined by resident cool guy, Brad Turk, the boys took turns strategically killing generations (RIP Great Aunt Judith) to score as many victory points as possible.

In addition to growing our village the boys also discuss their favorite games to buy in a last-minute holiday pinch, Frank's primary sales goal at Target and the cool shows Brad's bands have coming up!

In this week's episode the boys talk about their favorite games to play with family while home for the holidays, Ben's podcast The Story to Tell and breakdown the board game Viticulture by Stonemaier Games. Hear the boys thoughts on running a successful winery, and the challenges one encounters when looking kind of like a pervert.

The Board Boys blasted into outer space this episode to boldly explore wormholes, harvest minerals and wage war in Eclipse! Joined by local wrestling fan, mini-pig owner and comic book author, Dustin Murrell, the boys break down this outer space epic. The boys also learn about the joys of owning a Mini-Juliana pig (spoiler - they're adorable) and how Mega Chomp (your new favorite superhero) continuously saves Cinderella, the Three Little Pigs, Snow White and many more of your favorite childhood characters.
