In the heart of Western Europe is a nation that can be called the yolk of modern Europe. This nation had the first major ruler of post-Roman Europe, Charlemagne. When thinking of the word culture, this nation comes to mind. Not only did this nation birth the Creole, Cajun, Acadian,  and Quebecian cultures of North America but also birthed the culture of modern Europe in many ways. This nation also set the revolutionary tone in Europe when it became the first one to overthrow an absolute monarchy in the late 1700s. Since then this nation has become famous for its resilience, resistance, culture, cuisine and tourism. This is France.

In a special set of isles just north of Europe is a united nation of 4 different states. This small group of islands has effected more nations than any other one in history. This nation is a bulwark of history, empire building, and global influence. From glorious triumphs to horrendous terrors this nation had led in both. This is the United Kingdom.

Stretching into Malay is a nation of great influence in Southeast Asia. This nation has a deep rooted culture that has maintained a balance between hindu and buddhist influences for generations. This nation is famous because it is the only southeast asian country to completely avoid European colonialism through diplomacy and war. This nation continued that same system for generations which made it a politically diverse and strong nation. Today, this nation is a hub of culture, cuisine and people that gets millions of visitors a year. This is Thailand.

In the mountains region of Southeast Asia, lies a nation of many cultures and names. This nation has been influenced by buddhism, hinduism and many different ethnic groups. This nation saw some of the most successful dynasties of the region rule a large area. There were also many eras of invasion and colonization that affected this history in many ways. The people of this nation also launched a lot of resistance movements to gain proper representation throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. This is Myanmar.

In the mountainous northern region of the Andes lies a nation that has been at the forefront of major changes in South America. This nation was one of the first in South America to break away from Spaniard domination. This nation then had decades of major wars, political deliberation and cultural development. This nation has produced global superstars in music, sport and more. Despite that the most famous drug lord in the world dominated this nation in the 80s and 90s. This is Colombia.

On the coast of East Africa is a nation that acts as the beating heart of the region. This nation is famous for its people groups, history and culture. This nation’s capital is today called the Silicon Valley of Africa. This nation has a lot of geographic landmarks and other great things to explore but nothing is as unique as the many people groups that shape the nation. This is Kenya. 

In the far east lies a peninsula that has recorded some of the most unique stories of all time. There are two nations on this peninsula that have developed into completely different countries. In the south is a storied democracy that has been formed through great military leadership, unique business practice and resistance at any time it was needed throughout history. This nation has become a massive global exporter of culture. From music and food to movies and cosmetics. This is South Korea. 

This is simply one of the most influential nations in history. This nation started The Reconquista, The Crusades and The Age of Discovery. This nation has felt unique influence as an Umayyad territory, and left great influence as the Kingdom of Castile. This nation has been recording history for 3 millenia and has always been very interesting. From the earliest peoples, to powerful dictators, and to modern beauty, this nation has seen it all. This is Spain. 

Our nation of today is one of the most unique in all of Latin America. The population, languages, history and culture in this southern nation heavily juxtapose the story of most other latin nations. This nation was at the forefront of the independence movement in the 1800s, and has led in many other areas since. Industrialization, cultural homogenization and other controversial steps were taken first in Argentina. There are a lot of very high claims and successes of this nation but there have also been major blights especially regarding racial mistreatment and misconduct during WW2. This is Argentina.

One of the most famous and influential east African nations is this one that borders Lake Victoria. This nation spent many periods under different powerful rulers from the influence of Ancient Egypt all the way to the British Empire. This is a hearth of African music and dance. This nation does presently face democratic corruption which has gripped the nation for a long time. This is Uganda. 

This nation is the largest country in Africa by total geographical area. This nation has housed many of history's greatest influencers such as the Roman empire, Christian missionaries, many islamic caliphates and the French Empire. This nation possesses a lot of culture from its time as a french colony, roman colony and ottoman one. Today this massive nation leads North Africa in its influence with regional affairs. This is Algeria. 

Quite literally the oldest nation in the world. This nation once housed Mesopotamia, the oldest grand civilization in the world. Since then this nation has been many things: A home for islamic knowledge, the hearth of many empires and a victim of American Politics. This nation has fallen into a place of deeply rooted issues that have been exploited or implanted by foreign powers. Nonetheless, the history and culture of this nation have continued to persevere through any great tragedy. This is Iraq. 

Formerly the largest country in Africa, this nation has had millennia of history. For centuries this land was inhabited by the Nubians, a great ancient people that worked with and rivaled the pharaohs of Egypt. Since then this nation has evolved with religions like christianity and Islam. This nation has represented a swathe of colonial influences that have happened in north central Africa for thousands of years. This is Sudan.

The Great White North is the famous (and accurate) nickname of this country. Dozens of indigenous people groups formed the backbone of the culture in this frozen heartland. Hundreds of years of cultural formation went into this country becoming the one it is today. This nation has seen both World Wars, rapid development and the creation of a unique dual identity in just one century. With tonnes of maple syrup, moose and land this nation is very unique. This is Canada. 

Lying in the slavic east of Europe is possibly the most resilient nation in history. For thousands of years this land has been inhabited by different peoples who have left their cultural influence world wide. This nation has been the home of great victories; this land once had the largest state in Europe, the strongest heavy cavalry and one of the first constitutional monarchies. This nation suffered millions more casualties than every other nation during the holocaust and WW2. Despite a history of struggle and conflict this nation is eastern Europe’s best success story. This is Poland. 

In the northwestern corner of Africa is a nation that has been a cornerstone of North African culture for millennia. Only a stone’s throw away from Spain and the Strait of Gibraltar, this nation has had a lot of European influence over the last 1000 years. Islam, France, Spain and many other great influences shaped this land and its culture. This country is truly stunning in every way and its history is just as detailed. This is Morocco. 

Two years ago I covered the entire history of this nation from its origins to the invasion from Russia in 2022. This nation has since faced off against one of the latest powers in the world in a war backed by the rest of the world. This nation is filled with strong willed citizens who have refused to back down in the face of death. Once again, this is Ukraine. 

This nation is the beating heart of Central Asia. The people who call this nation home have shaped and influenced the history of central asia for almost 3000 years. This nation has cities like Smarkand and Bukhara which marked the connecting point between the east and west on the silk road. Beyond that, this country has a unique culture that shows shades of Mongolian, nomadic, Turkic and Persian influence. This is Uzbekistan.

Bordering great powers like Pakistan and China is a nation once dubbed the graveyard of empires. This nation produced the Bactrians, Pashtuns, and many other great people groups that influenced hundreds of years of central asian history. This nation battled great empires like the Soviet Union, The British Empire and many ancient powers. This nation has persevered through many years of war in the 21st century and has held tightly onto its storied culture. This is Afghanistan. 

This nation lies across the two sides of the South China Sea. On both sides of this nation there has been thousands of years of human history that shaped the nation into what it is today. This nation was influenced by great maritime empires like the Srivijaya and global ones like the British. In the time since this country gained independence it has become one of the most well developed in the world. No matter the internal and external battles this nation has fought it has continued to grow for the last 60 years. This is Malaysia. 

Perhaps the single most unique borders belong to this nation. With over 4000 KM of in length this nation is longer than the US is wide. This is a latin nation that has felt massive influence from Spain, the US, and many of its neighbors. Despite a lot of this influence this land has had a unique culture defined by the indigenous Mapuche people and the modern residents. This nation has held a prideful warrior culture, a powerful mercantile system and a period of rapid development. This is truly one of my favorite nations in the world, this is Chile. 

On the southwestern coast of Africa is a lusophone nation with a unique history. This nation was conquered by both Portugal and the Netherlands but never lost who it truly was. This nation embodies resistance and nobody in the nation did more than Queen Nzinga. Since then this nation fought a brutal war for independence, a lengthy civil war and faced decades dominated by the same leader. Today, this nation is deeply ridden with inequality but there seems to be a brewing effort towards change. 

On the powerful coast of East Africa is a nation that has influenced the world around it for a millennia. The coast of this nation was home to generation defining trade and the development of the unique Swahili language. This is a lusophone that is defined by its deep connection to Portuguese culture. Over the last 6 decades this nation has fought in civil wars and revolutionary ones to change the trajectory of its future. This is Mozambique.

In the heart of the Middle East is a peninsula that birthed a prophet who has influenced bllions since he lived. The history of this nation dates back at least 12,000 years; in that time the greatest ancient, medieval and modern civilizations have interacted with this nation. In the modern age, a family emerged in the desert that is now the most powerful on the planet. The modern nation is influential, rich, deeply dynastic and incredibly diverse. This nation stands at the foreground of the future, for better or for worse. This is Saudi Arabia. 

In the southern point of the Arabian peninsula is a nation named for that same location. This nation has seen millennia of history that dates back to ancient times and ancient civilizations. The culture, food, coffee and nature in this country are all unique to this space alone. However, beneath this beauty is a nation of deep division, struggle and abuse. For nearly a decade this nation has been divided between civil war lines that reflect a tumultuous history of different peoples. This is Yemen. 

On the coast of West Africa is a nation that represents the very heart of the region. This area has been inhabited for millennia by hundreds of different people groups. The Fon, Fante and the mighty Asante have all made this land their home. The Asante formed the great Ashanti confederation and then made an empire that is still spoken of to this day. This nation pushed through European colonialism and emerged as the first African nation to break into independence. This nation has seen the highest parts of freedom and struggles with external abuse. This nation is strong, storied and unique. This is Ghana.

Lying on the west coast of the great African continent, is a nation that holds cornerstones of African history. This nation is famed for its coastal riches and people that have lived there. This nation has seen the great empires of Africa like the Mali and Songhai as well as the colonial powers of Europe. Throughout hundreds of years of change the culture and people of this nation have remained strong. This is Cote D'ivoire

High in the Himalayan mountains is a strong but heavily isolated nation. This nation is a stoutly hindu-buddhist nation, filled with experienced mountain warriors, and many deep cultural traditions. This nation battled against many great Chinese dynasties, Tibetan kingdoms and the British Empire. In recent decades this nation has faced a lot of political ups and downs. However, recently the nation has gained a lot of increase in tourism and global attention for the culture of its people. This is Nepal.

The Caribbean Sea, the Amazon rainforest, and all of South America have been influenced by this nation. This nation is beautifully diverse in both its people and biodiversity. This nation has been plagued with instability and a bad reputation for years; challenges from powers like the US have made this country far more alienated than it should be. Nonetheless, beautiful people, culture, art, geography and more, are present in this land. This is Venezuela. 

On the western coast of Africa is a nation with a complicated history. This nation is likely the home of the Bantu people who migrated across the continent and shaped the culture of most African nations. This nation has faced hundreds of years of empires which culminated in European rule. This nation has pushed through many years of instability and confusion since independence. Today, there are still a lot of major issues for this nation to sort out but it is nonetheless on the path to do so. This is a land of fighters, this is Cameroon

Sometimes known as the 8th continent, our nation of today is extremely diverse in their history and culture. This nation is one of the most biodiverse nations in the world; it is the endemic home of lemurs, baobab trees and houses the most chameleons in the world. This nation was founded by Austronesians and formed a blended culture that has lasted for centuries. Through great strong leaders, European colonial rule and mass killings this nation has never backed down. This nation is absolutely beautiful, filled with the best vanilla in the world and it has a unique history. This is Madagascar.

The Land Down Under, The Outback, and The Great Southern Land, are just a few names to describe this country that is also a continent. This nation has been inhabited by indigenous peoples for over 60,000 years; in that time a deep culture was developed by over 250 different tribes. As this massive nation developed there were many different people, cultures and some criminals that helped shape the culture. This nation has seen global wars, emu wars and a whole lot of other insane moments. This is Australia.

On a small peninsula in the far east is a nation of beautiful history and deep secrecy. This nation has been inhabited for millennia where a deep, artistic and withstanding culture has developed. This nation has been through ancient wars, global wars and massive political shifts. Today this nation is home to one of the most silenced, and unique cult of personality based governments the world has ever seen. This was one of the most interesting but abnormal nations I have ever studied. This is North Korea.

In the legendary levant region is one of the eldest nations in the world. This nation has housed or interacted with some of the ancient world’s most powerful empires such as Babylon, Mesopotamia and Assyria. Since that time this nation has been the home of thousands of years of history and cultural development. Today, this storied nation is in one of the worst civil conflicts in the world. Thousands have died, thousands have been displaced and millions have migrated. This is Syria. 

In the very heart of the Sahel is a nation of rich resources and multiple cultures. This nation was a strong arm of the Mali and Songhai empire centuries ago. This nation has pushed through European colonial rule and decades of instability since independence. Today, this nation is trying to stabilize its government, exploit its resources and become a premier nation in the region. This is Niger. 

In the heart of West Africa lies perhaps the Sahel’s most famous nation. The home of vast medieval empires and the richest man to ever live. A stretching desert with the earth’s finest riches. A home to dozens of different people groups. All of these things describe the African nation of today’s focus. For the last few years this nation has been in deep division that may cause a unity of Sahel states. This is Mali.

In the gold filled region of West Africa there is a nation of many different people that have had a history worth more than gold. This nation has seen the influence of Africa’s strongest empires such as Mali, Songhai and Ghana. This nation was thrusted into war both with and alongside France. Since the end of colonialism this nation has been at the forefront of leading social change in West Africa. Despite all this, the country has deep rooted struggles to sort out but that has never stopped this nation before. This is Burkina Faso.

Just off the coast of the Indian subcontinent is an island nation with millennia of ethnic history. There are two main people groups here: the Tamils that came from South India as traders, and the Sinhalese from North India. These two groups have both had centuries of royalty, culture and history in this nation. A brutal 3 decade civil war was fought in this nation at the turn of the 21st century. Despite the brutality of this war, the people of this nation are some of the most resilient and whole hearted in the world. This nation has struggled to find stability since the end of the civil war but this has not stopped them from being the amazing people they are today. 

In South Central Africa is a nation that lies next to one of the 10 largest lakes in the world. This nation has been inhabited for eons, literally dozens of millennia. This nation has also seen influences from African empires like the Maravi and European ones like the British. This nation has a deep culture connected to the region and has maintained it with oral and written traditions for centuries. Despite the ups, downs and current struggles of the country, this nation is still proud and strong today. This is Malawi. 

In the mighty plains of Central Asia, is one of the largest nations on earth. This country has a long and systematic nomadic past that still has connection to modern culture. This nation was established by 200,000 people that were willing to break away from their home in order to forge their own future. This nation spent time under the Soviet Union and for 4 days in 1991 was the entire Soviet Union. This is a beautiful and massive nation that is very underrated. This is Kazakhstan. 

In South Central Africa there is a country that has been influencing the region for centuries. This nation is an amalgamation of many different people groups that have all brought their own influence to the history of this nation. This nation was conquered and shaped by many empires across the last two millennia. This nation has some of Africa’s greatest natural beauties such as Victoria Falls. This is Zambia. 

In the heart of southern Europe is a nation full of legends and forgotten history. This country is famed for its connection to vampire stories and the original dracula, Vlad Tepes III. This nation has faced the might of many great empires starting with the Roman empire and recently the Soviet Union. Despite these struggles, this nation has maintained its own strong culture and identity for almost 2 millennia. This nation is a success story of post soviet growth. Today this nation is a cultural hub, leader in technology and a gem of European history. This is Romania.

In the heart of West Africa is a nation that has been at the center of all things West Africa for milenia. This nation has seen the influence of some of the most prominent empires of history like the Mali Empire and the French Empire. This nation was the center of the Atlantic Slave trade and then the capital of French West Africa. Since then this nation has improved its economy, democracy and structure to become a growing independent nation of today. This is Senegal. 

Lying in the horn of Africa is a nation with a storied history. Major empires and Sultanates conquered this land and left their mark on it. This nation technically has two nations within it because there is a de facto independent state in the northern part of its borders. There are huge divisions in this nation based on the traditional clan system that divides the nation into clan based regions. This country is famed for its piracy and modern troubles but both of these have historical context that we will learn today. This is Somalia.

Bordering the North Sea in the heart of Europe is a storied nation that has affected the world. From the first people that arrived in the glacial period to the Romans and all the way to the modern age this nation has been a part of history through all of it. This was once the most powerful naval empire in the world. This country has touched the far reaches of Indonesia and the tropics of the Caribbean. However, this nation saw some of the worst moments of the Holocaust and WW2. Since then this nation has flourished into one of the richest and most stable places to live in the world. This is the Netherlands. 

At the top of Central America is the most populous country in the subcontinent. This nation has the largest economy in Central America and has the highest percentage of indigenous people as well. This nation was at the forefront of independence movements in many cases because this nation broke away from the Spanish and Mexican Empires. This nation is geographically stunning and is deeply culturally diverse. This country has a lot of different ups and downs in its current state but the people here are still very happy to call it home. This is Guatemala.

In the center of Africa lies the 5th largest nation on the continent. This nation has been a part of great ancient empires and empires of the modern age. All of these powers left cultural influence on the nation. They also left lasting issues and struggles, especially France. This nation gained its independence less than a century ago and has fought against all odds to stay present today. In the time since independence there have been dictators, civil wars and coups across the nation. No matter all of this, the nation still pushes through each day in hope of a better tomorrow. This is Chad. 

In the center of Indochina is a nation with storied but troubled history. This nation is dotted with some of the most unique religious structures in the world, the most famous of all is Angkor Wat, the largest religious structure in the world. This nation has seen the effects of some of the world’s premier empires like France in its prime. After gaining independence this country suffered through the evil regime of Pol Pot. Today this nation is viewed as a gem in the region for its beauty and history. This is Cambodia. 

In the very center of the world is a nation named for its spot on the equator. This nation was the first in South America to attempt a revolution against the rule of the Spanish Empire. The indigenous people here have a culture that dates back 4000 years and is still prominent today. This nation has seen the peaks and valleys of history; at times it was the most politically stable nation on the continent and at times it was the least. This nation has a megadiverse nature, wide ranging culture and layered history. This is Ecuador

In Southern Africa lies a long standing nation that has acted as a continental player in Africa for centuries. This country was home to a luxurious and expensive Kingdom that predated European arrival. For literal centuries this nation has been a cornerstone of African global trade and today it is the lithium capital of Africa. However, things have not been all happiness. This nation had the worst economy in the world throughout the 2000s. At times the inflation rates were over 100,000 percent. Since then this nation has tried to stabilize and pursue democracy in a very challenging world. This is Zimbabwe.

On the coast of West Africa is a nation that has seen the advancement of human civilization throughout all periods. This region has been inhabited by humans as long as almost anywhere else in the world. Since this origin point this nation has seen powerful empires like Mali, Banma and French influence the land. Over the last century this nation has been the embodiment of independence and pride. Here was the first and only African nation to choose independence from France and face all that came with that decision. This is Guinea. 

In Central Africa there is the youngest nation in the world, established officially in 2011. Don’t let that fact fool you, people have been recording history in this land for millennia. Empires of antiquity all the way to the empire of Britain have influenced this land at some point. This nation fought to form its own country out of its larger northern counterpart for over 30 years. Even since independence this nation has had many internal conflicts to resolve. This is South Sudan.

In the heart of central Africa is a small nation that has been to the depths of suffering and the peak of success. This nation saw one of the worst atrocities in human history in the 1990s. Since then this country has become a business center in a continent that has always lacked one. For its grand business laws, safety in the capital, and freedom in entrepreneurship this nation has been dubbed “The Singapore of Africa”. This nation has survived many dark times and today looks into a brighter future. This is Rwanda.

Small but mighty is today's South African nation. This nation is defined by its people, first the pygmy Twa, then the Bantu Hutu and finally the tall Tutsi. This nation has faced the greed of many people and empires. In the 1900s this nation went through transformational changes and faced true evil. Today this nation pushed forward through hard struggles and hopes for a greater tomorrow. This is Burundi. 

In West Africa lies a nation that has seen eras of history and challenges. Some of the oldest human remains have been found here, they tell of early civilizations that predate most of the world. This nation has been part of empires from around the continent and the globe. This nationacts as a major cultural center despite its small size. This is Benin.

In the very center of South America is a resilient country that has embodied resistance throughout its history. The people here have seen the empires of the Inca, and Spanish stick their influence into the land. Then the nation had to handle wars, losses and land partitions with all of its neighbors. In this nation the indigenous population makes up a huge portion of the population and the government works with them heavily. This is Bolivia. 

In the southern part of Oceania is a wide sprawling nation that houses more cultures and languages than you can think of. This melanesian island group has over 800 living languages from 1000 different cultures, but that's not all. This nation faced the greed of the large colonial powers of history and endured all the attacks they brought with them. This nation is unique in its look, culture, history and for its extraordinary beauty. This is Papua New Guinea.

In the heart of the Caribbean is the island of Hispaniola, in the western half of this island lies our nation for the day. This nation has powered through a harsh, hate-filled history and has remained proud in the face of it all. This nation is neck deep in troubles today, it is seen as the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, it is controlled by gangs, and its economy is dead in the water. The people in this nation have faced anything you can think of but the people are still famous for their kind smiles, their deep culture and their endless pride in where they came from. This is Haiti. 

One of the oldest nations in the world lies in the heart of the middle east; this country has had established cities for over 9000 years. History has not been kind to this nation which has been fighting for its autonomy since ancient times. Trajectory has changed though, today this nation is one of the most stable and peaceful nations in an otherwise tumultuous region. This nation is at the forefront of change in one of the most traditionalistic regions in the world. This is Jordan. 

This large island nation has used its precarious position in the Western Hemisphere to influence it heavily. The Pearl of the Antilles has seen all sorts of history in its borders: it was the largest island Columbus landed on, the center for new world slavery, the only communist country in the Western Hemisphere and more all defined different eras of this nation’s past. In the 1900s this nation fought tooth and nail against the US which was the most powerful country in the world at the time. This nation has battled through all and become the one to make it out time and time again. This is Cuba.

In the very center of Europe lies a nation that defines what it means to survive in this part of the world.  This country defended against the invasions of the Mongols, crusades from the pope and has maintained its place as one of the safest places in the world. Being caught in the crossfire of both world wars and the cold war caused this nation to develop a hardy character that has used all of its grit to survive the 1900s. Today this is one of the most beautiful countries on earth, especially when you consider how much this nation has seen. This is Czechia. 

In the great Scandinavian region of Europe lies a nation that defines all things Nordic and Scandinavian. This nation has one of the strongest connections to vikings and viking history. In this nation there has been economic strife and there has been success and today it uses the Nordic Model to use the great wealth of the nation to give back to its people. This is the home to IKEA, the homebase of ABBA, this is the Welfare State and this is Sweden.

On the famous island of Hispaniola lies two nations, the one we focus on today is the larger and older of the two. This nation has cultural traditions practiced across the world in culinary arts, dance and language. This nation survived and prospered through European colonialism, Earthquakes and many interventions. They lead the world in exporting cigars, rum and other handcrafted goods. This is one that I'm very excited to put out because of the people from this country. This is the Dominican Republic. 

In the most western point of Western Europe lies a nation that has influenced the world in a way few others ever have. This nation started the Age of Discovery, and then sent history’s best explorers across the world to map it all out. This nation has the 6th most widely spoken language in the world. Today this storied nation has survived city shattering earthquakes, greedy kings, and many selfish autocrats; but has made itself into one of the world’s most advanced and safe countries on earth. This is Portugal.

In the Caucasus mountains is a nation that has weathered the storm of this region’s tumultuous history. This nation has seen many different cultures, empires, and more come in and out of this land. Today the nation is deeply divided because of its clashes with its neighbor: Armenia. On top of this the nation is facing international pressure over border disputes and because of the democracy becoming very corrupt over the last few years. This is Azerbaijan.

In the borders of these dual nations has been the most significant events in human history. Regardless of religious belief it cannot be denied how influential the events in these nations have been for the rest of the world. With recorded history going back at least 12000 years this nation is unparalleled in how deep its history goes. On top of all the ancient stories and legends of this area, it is still extremely influential to this day. As I type this the conflict between these two nations has drawn attention from countries around the world. This is Israel and Palestine. 

This nation has handled the wild history of Europe from all directions. There have been endless wars, royal marriages, and alliances within this nation. This country acted as the gateway to Europe for ages and fought in many wars to defend its borders. Today this absolutely stunning country is adjusting to a post Soviet world with a lot of change in the past 30 years. This is Hungary.

Today we go south of the Yucatan Peninsula to a nation that has seen any and all of the major problems, wars and challenges in Central America. This nation used the sport of soccer to fight a war against its neighbor El Salvador. Culture in this nation has been influenced by Europe, America, and its neighbors; however, the culture of the indigenous people still remains strong today. This nation is struggling to find its place in the democratic world but with its newest president there is a lot of hope in the hearts of the people. This is Honduras.

In the low bowels of Central Asia, lies a nation that has endured every era its history has provided no matter how strong or scarce it was. Perhaps the nation with the most oddly drawn borders in the world, while also holding some odd records; this nation is odd in every sense of the term. With a mix of Persian, Middle Eastern and Russian influence our focus of today is one that is often forgotten. This is Tajikistan.

Don’t call it a comeback. This small nation in the middle east went from a bunch of undeveloped emirates to a united nation of technology and marvel. Home to the tallest building in human history, the only 7 star hotel on earth, and some of earth’s largest oil reserves. This nation has interacted with some of the world's most ancient empires like the Umayyad and Abbasids. This is one of the most unique nations on the planet and it is starting to get a lot of attention. These are the United Arab Emirates. 

In Eastern Europe, is a storied slavic nation that has struggled to be recognized for its own story. With a name that clearly draws connection to its great neighbor, this country has seen all of the same wars and struggles as Russia. This country has seen most of its independent history under the same government regime. However, that hasn’t stopped it from advancing its culture and standing in the region. This is Belarus.

In the very heart of Europe lies a nation that has long pumped life into the continent. One of the most long reigning dynasties in world history held power in this land: The Habsburgs. This nation has contributed to every single major European event for the last thousand years. This nation was the first to declare war in World War I. In the modern age this storied nation has developed into a place of peace, glamor and excellence. This is Austria.

This city is the gambling capital of the world, home to the world series of poker and so much more. This city is a bright, glowing, gem of American Ingenuity. Literally it is the brightest spot on earth. With a short history but quality packed one this city is absolutely one of a kind. The entertainment capital of the world, Sin City itself, This is Las Vegas.

The embodiment of neutrality, the symbol of peace and the home of luxury. This nation was formed by a few groups of people that wanted their own path. From 3 small cantons this nation has grown into one of the most developed nations in the world, that also acts as the banking center for Europe. This nation is clean as can be, geographically stunning and very wealthy. This absolutely beautiful country is known around the world; This is Switzerland.

In West Africa there is a nation that has a history shared only by 2 other nations on Earth. This is a nation forged by the freedmen of the Americas and has embodied that history for centuries. This nation holds many people groups that have long histories in each of their regions. This nation has survived colonial abuses, restrictive regimes and a brutal civil war; despite all that this is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. This is Sierra Leone.  

This man is a seasoned graphic designer, a Western Michigan alumni, a husband and most important of all: My father. This man is my deepest inspiration for pursuing my dreams, he is the hardest working man I have ever met, and he is a legendary conversationalist. Above anything else he has been or ever will be this man has always been one thing to me, the greatest father in the world.

West Africa holds nations that are famous for their resilience throughout history, but today we take a look at one of its most underrated nations. This country has seen many different historical eras but none were as dark as its time known as the slave coast. Despite some horrible arcs in this country's story, the citizens here refuse to be wiped out of relevancy. The nation remains consistently involved in regional changes and is doing all it can to evolve with the times. This is Togo. 

This nation lies in the center of South America, next to the Rio De La Plata and in the heart of South American affairs. This nation has seen a lot of interaction with the region through wars, diplomacy and other affairs. The people of this nation hold a tight brother and sisterhood with each other because of the history they have united behind. No matter the great defeats and challenges this nation has faced, the people still rise to the occasion any chance they get. This is Paraguay. 

In the very heart of southeast asia is one of the last 5 communist nations on Earth. This nation has experienced millenia of recorded history, and with its location next to so many global powers; there is no end to how much influence has come in and out of this country. In the present, this nation is known for its history of being pulled into wars but not much else is remembered by those outside of the nation. Today, the whole story of his nation will be unveiled. This is Laos. 

Lying in the dry desert of central asia is a country with a long but underrated history. This nation is always overlooked but its culture has been around for over a millennia. This nation has seen ages of occupation but has never given up on holding on to its history. This is the least well known country in Central Asia, but let’s start to change that. This is Kyrgyzstan.

Lying in the underbelly of Central America is a small nation that has seen hundreds of interesting history filled years.  Cultures ranging from Europe and South America to North America have affected this nation in many ways. This land has seen corruption, and gang violence occur at the same time as cultural awakenings and social gains. This is El Salvador. 

This north African nation has seen more historical eras than most other countries on earth. The Phoenicians, Romans, Normans, and many other powers have all laid claim to this region at some point. This nation is in the pure heat of the Saharan Desert but still has one of the best water systems on earth. On top of all this was Muhhamar Ghaddafi, the ruler of the late 1900s that changed the future and outlook of Libya to this day. This is Libya.  

In the heart of the Balkans is the most loud, proud and influential member of the former Yugoslav union. This nation has seen nearly every major war you can think of: the Balkan wars, the Ottoman wars and both World Wars all left a lasting impact on this land. This land has produced Roman Emperors and has simultaneously produced modern All-Star athletes. This country has had a long and hard history which has formed a hard people, that are extremely prideful about who they are. This is Serbia. 

In the heart of Central America lies a nation that has seen sorts of powers and eras throughout its history. This nation was part of Guatemala, Spain Mexico and has been heavily influenced by the United States. Culturally this nation has forged many distinct factors that can’t be found anywhere else. Recently, this nation has been at the whim of a single cult of personality that has the country in a choke hold. Despite this, millions of people still live here and spend their lives doing right by their history. This is Nicaragua. 

In the southern part of the Balkans, lies a storied nation that has influenced the world around it since its origin. This nation birthed the Cyrillic language which is one of the major language families of today. Never has this nation had its flag captured in battle. This fact and many other historical moments explain why this nation is filled with resilient and hard working people. This is one of my new favorites, this is Bulgaria. 

Lying next to the Caspian sea in the heart of central asia, is a secretive and quiet nation. Little  about the daily happenings of this nation are known by its neighbors. An extremely restrictive regime has this nation's population enthralled in a cult of personality based fervor that is deeply puzzling to anyone around it. By many scales this is the least politically and civilly free nation in the world. This is gonna be an odd one, this is Turkmenistan. 

In Central Africa lies a nation that has quietly had a story about global interaction. French, Portuguese and other African cultures all had influence on this country’s story. In this country are thousands of men and women that have resisted against the might of the world’s great empires. Today, the nation’s people face many growing issues but they face them head on.  This nation flies under the radar in most cases but, it still has a great history to explore. This is the Republic of the Congo.  

This nation embodies the meaning of a storied history, with written history going back as far as 500 AD. This nation has its history rooted deeply in its people. Vikings, christian kings, and Hundreds of other peoples have called this land home or influenced it greatly. This nation is one of the most developed in the world by every single metric and is widely seen as the least politically corrupt nation on earth. This episode will cover centuries of history and none of them are dull. This is Denmark. 

In the very center of the giant that is Africa, lies a nation unknown to most of the world. With a long and cursive history this republic has forged a strong and resilient people. This nation is buried in a long and tumultuous conflict that has sent shockwaves through its social structure. This country is so much more than the current state of affairs it faces and today, we explore why. This is Central African Republic.

The Land of a Thousand Lakes, is the famous moniker for this nation, but there is so much more to this nation than its geographical features. With a history dating back over 5000 years, with many different people groups figuring out how to survive in this frigid tundra. This nation has weathered some of history's must brutal eras from the reign of the Hanseatic League to the Soviet Regime. In recent memory this nation has left a permanent mark in the tech industry, and made its culture a mainstay in European media. This is all without mentioning the legendary "White Death". This is Finland.

This country has been a headquarters for many religions, ethnic groups and empires. Dating back to the ancient age, Phoenicians called this land home. The phoenicians revolutionized sea faring, the alphabet, created the carthaginian empire and countless other things. The people living here since then have seen some of the most brutal struggles, wars and harsh periods of the modern age. Truly, some of the most resilient people walking this earth live in this nation. This is Lebanon.

Very widely considered the most well developed nation in the world today. Indestructible economy, great civil rights, incorruptible political system and great quality of life define this country. This has not always been the case, this nation has spent a vast majority of its history under the hegemony of other nations. Lack of political freedom and lower quality of life came from these times of being ruled. Vikings, empires and other powerful groups all called this land home at some point. This is Norway. 

This small island country has created massive waves in the tourism, food, and trade industries. Widely considered the most luxurious country in Asia, this nation has become famous for its one of a kind architecture. Quickly becoming one of the most visited countries in the world, the lifestyle here is very highly valued. Peeling back the layers of this country will reveal a truly rich history that has seen many empires, religions and stories of legend leave their mark. This is Singapore. 

In Central Europe lies a nation that has quietly been a part of the most influential moments in history. From prospering during the rule of empires like the Austrian and Hungarian ones to being the battle ground for WW2, This nation has experienced a lot. Its status as a quiet nation earned it the moniker of “The Underdog of Europe”. The term underdog rightly described the country for a long time but in the last century this nation has shattered all expectations. This is another great slavic nation and no it isn't Slovenia, This is Slovakia.

Pura Vida! Is the famous saying of the people in one of the happiest nations on Earth. This nation didn’t get to this place of joy without being neck deep in struggle. Breaking away from Spain, then Guatemala and then working to become one of the most progressive nations in Central America; Are just some of the things this nation has had to get through. Some of the most influential polticians in the western heimisphere made their name in this nation. This is one of the most peaceful nations in the world. This is Costa Rica. 

Finally, we get a chance to return to Oceania with one its largest nations. This nation has long been home to one of the most unique people groups in the world, the Maori. Their music, tattoos and most famously the Haka dance, is recognizable across the world. The Maori are some of the most resilient indigenous people groups in the world as they not only survived the colonial period but formed a culture out of it. This nation has its origins with the Dutch and eventually had major relations with the UK, Australia, Japan and the US. This is New Zealand. 

As most people hear this country’s name, images of leprechauns, shamrocks, Guinness, and green will flood their mind the same way the rivers of Boston are flooded green on St. Patrick's Day.  However, this country has a long and deep history that has so much to offer. Celtic culture of 2500 years ago still affects the culture of this country to this day. Ireland has long been famous for its written history. It has had scribes meticulously recording events since the early days of christian. All this and one of the most brutal stories of 20th century history. This is going to be a special one. This is Ireland.

In the southern part of the Arabian peninsula lies a lesser known nation that has a history that is more than worth your time. For centuries this nation has had a strong family negotiate its way through the most brutal points of the colonial period. This nation has faced and survived the Ottoman, Portuguese and British empires. The storied history of this nation has shaped it into the proud but quiet nation it is today. In the present, this peacekeeping nation acts as the voice of reason between all of its very rowdy neighbors. This is Oman.

Surrounded by giants in both military power and economy, lies a middle east nation that despite its size has left a significant impact on the region. This nation is the reason for the Gulf War, home to the world’s strongest currency, and home to a plethora of fine art/culture. This nation has never backed down from the powerful nations that surround it and that has established the people as very resilient and strong. This is one that most people will overlook, let’s see what they are missing out on. This is Kuwait.

The first independent African nation, The United States in Africa and the Pearl of Africa, are all names that have been used to describe this nation. Stretching back millennia long ago the Kpelle, Basa and Kru people groups began making a home out of this land. Then, the land would be filled with African Americans that were seeking to make a home now that they had gained freedom from American slavery. This nation has been facing a harsh reality since independence but it is full of people doing their best to create a proud nation that stands out. This is Liberia. 

In the northwest of Africa is a quiet nation that has held a unique history without getting much modern attention. This nation has been home to the great Moors/Berbers of North Africa, the Heratin that have survived life here through its most brutal millennia, and many European colonists. This country was the last on Earth to abolish slavery, which wasn't until late in the 1900s. There are many other small and big events within this nation that have shaped it into what it is today. This is Mauritania. 

In Central America lies a nation that acts as a bridge between both North and South America and The Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This country has survived and at times prospered through colonial incursions from Spain, France and the USA. Dexterity in politics and creating strong international relations have helped this nation survive through the many eras it has been present for. This is Panama. 

This nation is home to the great Dalmatian coast, which boasts one of the most beautiful and important coastlines in history. However, this country is a lot more than a pretty coast and the dogs that come out of it. This nation is truly special for what it has been through. Thousands of years of war and foreign invasions have hit this land for its precarious position in the Mediterranean; Yet, the people of this land have always sought out a land of their own for them to call home. Through brutal world wars, communism and a lot of human rights violations, (some committed by the people here) this nation has made it through all of it to become a global destination for all. This is Croatia. 

In the caucasus mountains lies a nation that held a kindom nearly nine centuries in one of the most explosive regions in the world. This same nation has been forming its culture through art, music and their language since the 11th century. The stable times that bred the culture in the 11th century was forged by one of the world’s most dominant early monarchs: Queen Tamar. This nation and its people have fought against invasions, and brutal authoritarian rule for its entire history. Never once have the people here ever backed down from the dark times they have been forced to face. This is one for the ages, This is Georgia. 

In the northeast of Africa lies a nation that has seen and interacted with some of the world's greatest powers. Kingdom of Punt, the first major civilization in Eritrea existed at the same time as the peak of Ancient Egypt. This kingdom is one of the only civilizations that rivaled Egypt in sophistication at the time; The craziest part of this is that Egypt is the only place that has any recording of Punt existing. The people of this land have faced off against fascist Italians, Ethiopian invasions and more. This censorship in this country has earned it the name "The North Korea of Africa" in some circles. This is Eritrea.

This nation was built from fiery and fierce revolutionary leaders refusing to stop their fight until their people were free. From there, the people of this nation acted as the trailblazer for social reform in South America. Today, this nation is proudly one of the most democratic, socially free and economically dependable nations in South America. With its capital in long standing and stoutly independent Montevideo, this country and its people will show you what proper nation building looks like. This is Uruguay.

This country was once the base of the largest connected land empire in human history, and the 2nd largest empire of any kind. This is the home of Genghis Khan and a whole lot more history than most people know. This is Mongolia.

This Balkan nation has seen many different people groups, regimes, governments and ideologies take root in its borders. There have also been many awful wars, genocides and more in this country but that has not stopped it from standing up for itself. This is another two in one of sorts, This is Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

The first country to convert to christianity has a lot more claim to its fame than just that. Within this nation there is the oldest winery in the world, perhaps the oldest shoe in the world, and a wealth of both beautiful or horrendous history. This is Armenia.

This Baltic Nation carries with its history that has seen knights, kings, soviets, nazis and more come into the land. Despite all of this, the people here have been able to hold onto their distinct culture throughout all the eras they have survived through. This is the last baltic nation we will cover and this is Lithuania.

This Balkan nation is the only white Sunni Muslim country in Europe. It was also the first pure atheist country in the world for a time. The history of this country was swayed by all sorts of areas within Europe and its culture is felt far beyond its own borders. This is Albania 

The economic beast of the Middle East has not always been in the position it occupies today. For centuries this small nation was only used for its access to the sea by fishermen and pearl divers; Now, it is one of the greatest economic powers in the world that just hosted the World Cup. All this success has not come without a cost listen in to find out all about it. This is Qatar.

The smallest independent country on mainland Africa, literal just a river and home to many different people groups are all ways to describe this small but great nation. This is The Gambia 

Very likely the most commonly forgotten and overlooked country in Europe has a history very much worth knowing. From slavic groups to medieval kings and Romanians to Communists, this country has all of it and more. This is Moldova.

The Skeleton Coast, The Namibia Desert, and The Land God Made in Anger, are all titles given to this ;and. Despite the dreary names this country has a lot more to tell about its people than the geography of the land. This is Namibia.

In Southern Africa lies a country that has battled against all odds to get to its current level of achievement which is far higher than almost everywhere in the region. One of the world's most influential leaders that has been vastly unsung called this nation home. This is Botswana. 

The largest sovereign enclave country in the world has a lot more history within its small borders than you may think. A personal favorite of mine, the history of this country is very unique to its neighbors. oh yeah, the country also won a war against prime Great Britain. This is Lesotho.

A plentiful history lies within the borders of this gorgeous African nation. Many nations have tried to lay their claim to this land but only the people of the country can call it theirs to this day. This one may have slipped under your radar but that will make this even more interesting. This is Gabon.

This deeply forested baltic country has a history that has seen Vikings, early Germanic tribes, Communism and the World Wars. There is little that this country isn't ready for because it has seen it all. This is Latvia.

The home of Alexander the Great... or not, it depends who you ask. However, this country does have a storied history that connects to Ancient Greece, the balkans, communism and now the European Union. This is North Macedonia.

A small but strong nation of Africa faces west outwards towards the Atlantic, in this nation there has been war, colonialism and struggle but its people have never faltered. This country's story is full of growth and change and I think it is one you will enjoy. This is Equatorial Guinea. 

The Big Apple, The city that never sleeps, The concrete jungle and many other nicknames define this city. 5 different boroughs make up this one of a kind city. There is beyond too much to say about this city here so please listen in. This is the most famous city in the world, This is New York City.

An island nation in the Persian Gulf has a history that stretches back to 4,000 BC, and it seems there wasn't a dull moment from then to now. An endless list of empires have left their influence on this land as well as an enormous amount of people. Truly one of the most unique stories we have covered so far. This is Bahrain.  

The most southern country in all of the Caribbean, the richest country in the Caribbean and another dual island country in the Caribbean are all ways to describe this country. This is a country with many layers of history and that's all I'm going to give you for now. This is Trinidad and Tobago. 

The Baltic cousin to the Nordic countries, the IT capital of the EU and the home of over 9,000 years of history are all ways to describe this small European nation. This is Estonia. 

This small country occupies only half of one of the many islands that make up Indonesia. This country has seen many occupiers, many influences and a lot of change. This is Timor-Leste

The most densely populated country in Africa, one of the only very high ranking African countries on the HDI list, and the only majority Hindu African country. These are all ways to describe this unique African Island Nation. This is Mauritius. 

A country within a country within a continent is a way to describe the small country formerly known as Swaziland. This country has had a long history with many people groups coming into it and influencing it. However, it has always seemed to get the short end of the stick since colonial times. Nonetheless, this country holds the story of the Swazi people. This is Eswatini. 

Lying directly on the Red Sea is a country only the size of New Jersey. Within these small borders there have been many historical events, wars and changes that affect that have an affect far outside of them. The most urbanized country in Africa, the home to the Afar and Issa people and the lowest lying part of Mainland Africa. This is Djibouti.  

An Oceanic paradise holds a lot more in its waters than just a beautiful island get away. Volcanic islets, war chiefs, root based psychedelics, and race riots, all that and more in this country's history. This is Fiji.

The third biggest island in the mediterranean has a history that expands far pasts its borders. There are an endless amount of cultures that have influenced this country. With a history that goes back as far as the 10th Millennium BCE. Truly one of my favorite country history's in the world, This is Cyprus. 

A group of small islands lies in the waters between Madagascar and mainland Africa and within these islands is a history that few know. From Malay natives, and Muslim influence, to French occupation, and a chaotic post independence political scene: This is Comoros.

The only country in the world absorbing more carbon than it is emitting, a buddhist majority country, and a former isolationist government are all ways to describe this very unique asian country. This is Bhutan. 

Another episode on the three Guianas, will take us through a country that has a very special ethnic mix. India and Africa have their diasporas on  full display here making up around 50% of the population each. This one was hardly known to me at all before doing the research for this episode so this will be a learning experience for both of us. This is Guyana. 

A mix of vastly different cultures across a handful of vastly different islands make up this country.  There is an endless amount of things to say of the people in this country so I will say what I can in this episode. The name of this country itself comes from the treasures it holds within. This is The Solomon Islands.

Spanish, German and French Kings have ruled this land and it has gone through more transitions than most any other Western European country. From the Romans to the French empire and from steel to banking this is one for the ages. This is Luxembourg.

The sleepiest of all the Balkan countries, has a history that will surely keep you from falling asleep. Many a name this land has adorned yet today it is named after a  great black mountain within its borders, this is an introduction to one of the most complex regions in the world. This is Montenegro. 

one of the Three Guianas, has a history that is easily missed by many but not us. This country has seen a whole lot of people and culture grace its shores and now it is time to talk about who they were. This is Suriname. 

10 small islands make up this African country. This country was the first to be touched by the Portuguese empire. There is much to be said about this country but I would rather tell it in full form. This is Cabo Verde.

A small archipelago that contains as much history as a full sized nation. This is a personal favorite of mine, so I thoroughly enjoyed doing this one. This country spent almost 1000 straight years under foreign rule by different powers and today it is one of the only ones that still remains. This is Malta. 

In the Yucatan Peninsula lies a country of vastly different cultures and a lot of history. The great Maya, the Spaniards and the British all made appearances in the history of this country and affected it greatly. This country and its people have held a lot of stories in its time and I am here to tell them. This is Belize.

A small country attached to Borneo which it shares with much bigger neighbors of Malaysia and Indonesia; has a history and culture strong enough to contend with these two giants. It is a strong monarchy which in the modern age endures a lot of criticism from the western world but just like it has throughout its entire history, it has endured. This is Brunei. 

The Capital of the Lone Star statem the city that totes the term,"Keep Austin Weird", and home to some of the best BBQ in the world. This is the Live Music Capital of the World, This is Austin.

This is a first for the podcast but with an impromptu trip to Austin, I thought it only fitting for me to give a little history on the city.

There isn't a single part of this country that isn't ripe with beauty, from the Pink Sands of Harbor island to the Masterful resorts of New Province this country has become THE tourist destination on in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean. Despite its location this is considered the richest country in the Caribbean. There are endless amounts of things to say about this country but we shall get into that soon. This is The Bahamas.

Lying of the south western coast of the Indian Subcontinent is an island group of pristine beauty. Where Buddhist and Muslim faiths have shaped the land and so has the European influence mainly from Britain. This country is one of the most truly and naturally beautiful places in the world. With a history as diverse as its islands this is sure to be a good one, this is the maldives

In the land of fire and ice lies a history that stretches back thousands of years. This country has seen people from all over the world influence its story, Gaelic Monks, Norwegian vikings, Danish Kings and more have all spent time in Iceland. This most northern capital in the world is in Iceland and so is  the rest of the  history, this is episode 26 and this is Iceland. 

In the gulf of Guinea lies a lesser known volcanic mountain range called the Cameroon range, upon this range is one of Africa's least populated countries. These two islands and the people on them have been a host to a vast history and a lot of culture. They have survived many things from colonization to natural disasters, this is Africas dual island duo, this is São Tomé and Príncipe.

The cradle of Polynesia, pro wrestling royalty and the home of The Rock, Samoa is a culturally rich place that has survived many ages of change and they still grow even today. This is a huge one and this is Samoa. 

The long storied and brutal history of this island is to be told today. Caribs, Arawaks, absolutely brutal slavery and a recovery to become a beautiful and independent Caribbean country of today.  This is the last of the Saints in the Caribbean this is Saint Lucia.

An archipelago in Oceania has a whole lot of history to tell and marks a first for this series. The first country we are doing in Melanesia is this beautiful one. With ancient customs being revived today this country deserves its beautiful history told. This is Vanuatu. 

The only country in the world that touches all 4 Hemispheres has a history that spans as far as its islands do. The Phoenix, Line, and Caroline islands that make up this nation have a lot of history and uniqueness. This is another oceanic beauty this is Kiribati.

The lower half of the Grenadines and an a whole lot of history makes up this Caribbean island nation. The people here have a story behind their customs and they have seen influences from Africa, France, Britain, USA, Communists and more. This is Grenada.

The last Caribbean nation to be colonized by the Europeans has a storied history with many ups and downs as well as triumphs and defeats. The island has influence from Africa, Europe, South America and they have their own effect on the USA. This is gonna be a good one. This is Saint Vincent and The Grenadines

Not the region of Oceania but the country within it of the same name. A wide ranging group of over 600 islands makes this country very unique. Wide ranging stories from Wayfinding to independence and many other stories this is Micronesia. 

A Polynesian country with a history of Kings dating back to pre European times and one of the only pacific islands to avoid colonization by the European powers this unique Polynesian gem has a storied history. With major figures and players throughout the history this country doesn't Have a dull moment. This is Tonga. 

The dual islands of the lesser Antilles have a storied history and bright future. These islands see interference from around the globe but still manage to hold onto their culture that has always defined them. This culture remains today and so do these people behind it, this is going to be an enjoyable story because This is Antigua and Barbuda.

150 islands make up this beautiful country that has become a honeymoon destination for the entire world do dream of. From uninhabited islands to French and British colonies, political betrayals and an ever changing culture. This is Seychelles. 

The tiny buffer between Spain and France, With the second oldest parliament in Europe and the survivor of endless empires this microstate of Europe is beloved by historians around the world for its ability to exist. This is the anomaly, This is Andorra.

The largest former soviet state, the home of the Cossacks, Ruthenians and the origin of the Kievan Rus. Ukraine has some of the richest history in Europe and the world. With all that is going on today in this country it is the duty of all historians and students of history to put out information and education. With knowledge and history instead of hopes and prayers, this is my best effort to help the Ukraine and this is its History.

A vast range of islands and islets make up the country of The Marshall Islands.
