We begin by discussing SCAM 2003: THE TELGI STORY on Sony Liv. A well-received follow up to SCAM 1992 on the same service, this follows the intricacies of a small man who dreams big in an India where all kinds of things are possible.

That is also the main theme of BAMBAI MERI JAAN on Amazon Prime, which chronicles the rise of Dawood Ibrahim in a crime-ridden Bombay of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Featuring bravura performances by the main cast and a stylish, slick directing style, this Excel production really reels you in. 

We also discuss the trailer for THE GREAT INDIAN FAMILY, starring Vicky Kaushal and Manushi Chillar with an interesting premise. Will this work at the Indian box office?

And last, of course, we discuss Jawan, which shows no signs of stopping its rampage. Get_Filmy tells us off for our lack of appreciation and we discuss the fallout over the past few weeks.

And maybe that's a good thing.

Since the team is on their summer break, we decided to delve into our Podcast Bollywood Edition archives and pull out our review of Raees. A vastly underrated movie that seems to be getting some late praise and one we haven't covered yet on Khandaan Podcast. 

Another reason this is a good trip down memory lane as this is the first time Amrita and me podcasted together. Beth and Sujoy had appeared before.

So in a way, this is a baby version of Khandaan without us knowing it!

Welcome to Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast where today the review of the week is none other than DISCO DANCER (1982) starring Mithun Chakraborty.

This classic dance film, directed by Babbar Subhash (Kasem Paida Karne Wale Ki, Dance Dance, Love Love Love), can best be described as a series of scenes held together by some of the best disco music to have come out of India, courtesy the one and only Bappi Lahiri. Co-starring Rajesh Khanna, Om Puri, Karan Razdan, Kim, and Kalpana Iyer, this movie was a sensation when it came out. Join us on a surprising journey we didn?t expect to take.

Directed by Mani Rathnam and with music by AR Rahman, this movie stars Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayaram and many more. We discuss our reactions to the film as people who did not read the book, and struggle through technical difficulties to even have Asim praise Aishwarya (Rai).

We also discussed CITADEL (12.00) the new Amazon Prime series starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden and the brand new theatrical release POLITE SOCIETY(09.30) directed by Khandaan favorite, Nida Manzoor.

We also have an interview with Pakistani powerhouse Nimra Bucha (1.04.30) who stars as Raheela in Polite Society and who you might also know from her stellar work in Asim Abbassi's Churails and Miss Marvel.

We addressed listener complaints about our lack of love for JOHNNY GADDAR (2007) and why so many Hindi movies are all about rape revenge fantasies. 

Our main review however is the new Prime show, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Jubilee. This multi-part historical series about the early years of the Hindi film industry, featuring fictionalized stories of recognizable star-actors was a pure delight for these cinema buffs. Starring Prasenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sidhant Gupta, Nandish Singh Sandhu, Shweta Basu Prasad, Ram Kapoor, Arun Govil and a host of other fine talent, we had a lot to discuss about this one.

Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast is a blast from the past - specifically, Aamir Khan?s past. Tum Mere Ho (1990), directed by Tahir Hussain a.k.a. The Aamir Dad has everything: a wronged and vengeful snake mom, a grubby dad, a lost heir, a damsel beset by zaalim samaaj, intense young love, unique tribal customs, terrible costumes, and a fuzzy timeline that ensures we?re never quite sure when all of this action is taking place. 

Co-starring the always delightful Juhi Chawla and a thoroughly awkward Kalpana Iyer as a snake with tragic fashion sense, Tum Mere Ho is a classic for all the best reasons as previously outlined by Pretentious Movie Reviews. 

A Short Timeline:

01.15 Asim and Sujoy watched Baahubali at the Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra and it was magical. 11.50 Channel 4 in the UK has an interesting line up of films for you to watch and top friend Beth is back to give the lowdown on one of the films: Satyajit Ray?s Kapurush. 17.50 Asim can live again as Dabangg 3 gears for release.
