The Hearing Trumpet was one of the most important noise bands for Greh?s entry into the underground and we got a chance to talk with Dave and Greg, the duo that is the Hearing Trumpet. They provide a fascinating history of 80s and 90s noise in Michigan with a ton of great stories. One can tell immediately the connection these two have and the conversion is infectious. For the ExtraNoisextra segment on the patreon, we continue the V Day theme for over 30 minutes and talk about some favorite porn films of the 70s and 80s.

Greh began organizing his noise fliers, postcards, stickers, and more so we got together to go thru his collection. We talk about ways to archive and store these items, and the importance of keeping noise ephemera. In addition, we have a pretty extensive recent listening section. Davin Brainard of Princess Dragon Mom and Time Stereo joins us to head back to his early days of noise. Davin worked at Record Collector in the late 80s throughout the 90s and supplied Greh and the greater Michigan area with classic noise releases. In addition, Davin brought MSBR, Government Alpha, and Aube to the US. We get into all of this and more with an original of the scene. For ExtraNoisextra on the patreon, a big question about the Fab .44 Pure CD is answered with history behind the project. Also, Davin talks about seeing hardcore shows in the 80s. These two segments are in the middle of the episode.

Ain Soph "Kshatriya" is a special album and we enter the world it invokes. We discuss the many references presented within this completely unique sonic testament. Tara went deep with the research for this episode and enriches the album?s impact. One of Italy's great exports, Ain Soph sends us into many new realms ripe for discovery. Happy Noise New Year to all! To kick off the year, we wanted to do a loose check in episode going over some recent listening, reading and watching before we get into 2024 full swing. Wipe the hangover from your brain and welcome another year of noise.

We go back in time to when Greh lived in and ran his loft venue the Green Door in Detroit. Greh gives us his history moving in and deciding to host many noise shows. We get into some of the madness, some of the idiocy and some of the greatness of the Green Door. Don?t lock your car doors, that way you don?t have to clean up the broken window. For the ExtraNoisextra segment, we are including a couple recordings made at the Green Door ? Bloodyminded "Live Behind the Green Door" and a track from Aaron Dilloway.

A scheduling mishap had Mike and Tara sorting out an episode. The decision was made to leave the house and look for inspiration. What transpired was the discovery of a 10" by a very important historical project ? "Gris" by :zoviet-france:. It was a sign to dig deep into the band, one that Mike and Tara are admittedly not insanely familiar with. So come along on our journey in discovering this fantastic 10" and diving into :zoviet-france:. It?s been referenced many times throughout the years on Noisextra, especially on our recent Skin Crime episode, so we felt it was time to finally discuss the "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" VHS. "Huck Finn" documents the 1997 tour featuring the Haters, Emil Beaulieau, the Haters, Skin Crime, Crank Sturgeon, and Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase. It?s an absolute classic VHS and we got some inside info from some participants. Get lost on the back roads with us and "Huck Finn." Mike and Tara take a trip back to their earliest days in Lexington, KY and discuss some memorable shows and events from that time. A show at Club Seal that ended at the hospital, shows in the street, in tiny apartments and more. Never let the fire of the maverick days go out. Noise History class is underway with a full-to-the-brim episode focusing on the Skin Crime s/t LP on Hospital Productions from 2003. We had a conversation looking back on this time with Pat, and appropriately (as you?ll hear), Mark jumps on out of nowhere near the end. We talked with Dominick leading up to the episode and insert his recollections and thoughts on releasing the very first Hospital LP throughout. Part "in conversation," part "audio documentary," all SKIN CRIME. For the ExtraNOISEXTRA segment on the patreon, we hear a lot more background from Dominick including Peter Lee's involvement, the idea behind the center labels, and a story of laying out the LP with his teacher. The three of us got together to go through some 90s mailorder catalogs. We sift through catalogs from three classic distros: Malignant, Artware, and RRR. Comparing and contrasting the differences among them made for a lively noise discussion. Head back in time via invaluable printed matter.

We had a great time catching up with our old friend Andy Ortmann of Panicsville and Nihilist Recordings. Andy has been doing it since 1992 with no signs of stopping. From his beginnings in St. Louis to relocating to Chicago, we go into his entire noise history. Ortmann has worked with innumerable artists and his passion for the underground has never wavered. We go through the entire contents and have a blast heading down VHS memory lane.

Video game composer and sound designer Ross Tregenza joins us to discuss the process of creating all the sounds for the new Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game and maintaining a faithful atmosphere to Tobe Hooper's 1974 film. Tregenza's soundtrack plays separately from the game as an excellent dark ambient album rich in tension. We discuss how he got into the industry, his work for Cyberpunk 2077, varying levels of chicken agitation and composing for games in general. For the ExtraNOISEXTRA segment, Ross talks about his favorite video games and horror movies.

he annual Atrax Morgue episode has arrived. This year, we place a bag over our heads with "Death-Orgasm Connector." A CD from 2003, this album distills the greatness of Atrax Morgue into 10 of his most potent tracks. It?s never a bad time to listen to Atrax Morgue, but the end of October is truly the perfect atmosphere for "Death-Orgasm Connector. The game is closed. Marco Corbelli forever. For the ExtraNoisextra segment on the patreon we each chose an Italian horror movie to dissect, as is our Atrax episode tradition. This segment is over 30 minutes.

October screamed for an episode on a soundtrack and a movie, and we landed on the hate-filled nihilism of "the Last House on Dead End Street." In the first part of the episode, we talk to Adam Higgins who released the soundtrack on LP. He tells us how the record came together and how he figured out where all the tracks came from. After he heads back to work, we get into the movie itself. It is very appropriate listening and watching for the darkest month.

Up in the Arctic Circle sits Lasse Marhaug, a prominent figure in the noise underground since the early 90s. Lasse joins us to dissect his history, from metal and grindcore tape trading to discovering noise to connecting with noiseheads all over the world. October is here and we start off the dark month with a look to the distant past as we discuss Inanna ?Storm I-III? on Old Europa Cafe from 1993. Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance joins us for a great talk on a different branch of the underground. Six Organs has provided some incredible outer folk and expansive guitar work since the 90s. Bee tells us his life story, which includes briefly being a pop star in Japan as well as working at an early 80s fetish club, and gives a cool different history of the strange world of the 80s and 90s.

Today we go through issue #6 of ?Audio Drudge? from 1995. Each of us focused on one interview ? Mike took Namanax, Tara took Smell & Quim, and Greh took Daniel Menche ? and report that our findings. Mike and Tara were having massive problems with their Sequential Circuits Six Trak synth. Greh came over to repair it and record an episode while doing it. Lo and behold, when Greh arrived, the synth decided to start working again. Still, Greh takes us through opening and cleaning the Six Trak and gives plenty of advice on how to maintain a synth. It?s another episode in the vein of "Studio Reorganization."

Illusion of Safety is one of the longest running projects in the industrial noise underground, and Dan Burke was cool enough to sit down with us and go over his entire history. From seeing the final Throbbing Gristle show in San Francisco, to creating the IOS world with all its collaborators, Dan has stories and insight for days. It?s another mandatory history lesson on Noisextra.

We had a great discussion with James Keeler of Wilt, celebrating his 25 years in the underground. James goes into his early days in rural Illinois, the beginnings of Wilt, putting together the classic "Radio 1940," and plenty more. We were excited to hear about his themes, use of instruments and non instruments, and how it?s translated to the live setting. Turn on your short wave radio and tune in.|

Continuing our coverage of those playing the Hospital night of the NWN/Hospital Japan Fest, we had Jim Mroz of Lussuria in the Noisextra den for a great talk. We discuss the history of Lussuria, how he came to the noise underground, the importance of the Hospital store, founding Rogue State University, and so much more.

It?s the second part of our talk with Drew McDowall and we discuss joining Coil and the albums he helped create and finish with his recent solo work. Drew provides fantastic insight about the creation of these classic albums and describes some of the process of curating his solo box set. Another great first-hand industrial history lesson!

UK industrial history class is in session. Drew McDowall sat down with us for a long candid discussion covering his entire history. For this first of two episodes, Drew tells us about his beginnings in the 70s to falling in with Psychic TV and eventually Coil. It?s an incredible first hand account of the early industrial days. In part 2, we get into Drew joining Coil and go all the way thru to his current solo output.

In the second part of our discussion with Kristian Olsson, we get into Alframania, Kristian?s work under his own name, his writings with "Shock Tilt" and his forthcoming book "Giftnalen", as well as his thoughts and philosophy on the noise industrial underground. Today?s episode is another great course in the underground ?not only for history but also the present and future.

It was a honor to speak with Kristian Olsson to have a very deep discussion on not only his history, but his thoughts and philosophy on the underground. Our talk demanded it to be a two-parter, so for this first part, we go over Kristian?s early days, starting Survival Unit, connecting and working with Blood ov Thee Christ, and the newly announced Survival Unit/Grey Wolves collaboration tape. Ron Morelli (L.I.E.S. Records ) joins us today to discuss a different branch of experimental electronics. Ron?s ambient albums are Noisextra favorites. We dig into those, as well as his history in techno, his L.I.E.S. Records label, and his fantastic new album "Heart Stopper." Ron brings a unique perspective to the underground and it was a blast hanging out and having this discussion.

Continuing with our look at classic albums of the past, we enter a world that is very close to Greh's heart. Haus Arafna?s "Children of God" is a unique record in their own lane of industrial. Self-called "angst pop," we get into the structured noise of this long running German project. Tune in for some electronic terrorism. With the announcement of Masonna?s first set in years at the NWN/Hospital fest in Osaka, we instantly knew it was time to finally discuss the CD that is our namesake. Masonna "Noisextra" on the legendary Pure series packs every punch today that it did in 1995. We talk this album as well as the impact Masonna has had on all of us in our lives of noise. It?s all things Masonna today, and will be for the next year until we get to finally see the Sonic Devil himself live in Japan.

Jim Haras (Deterge) is releasing a massive Dave Gilden box set on his Fusty Cunt label. Jim was in town, so he came over to the Connelly household to have a talk about Gilden and the process of putting the box set together. Dave Gilden?s work was once of the least attainable, but there?s been a vast unearthing of his material in the past few years, and Jim?s box set will be a huge look at Gilden?s discography. In addition, we get into Jim?s noise history.

We remain in the zone for stone cold classics, and it felt like a fitting time to revisit some MB. ?Aktivitat? was Greh?s first MB album, and it sounds as hypnotically destroyed as ever. The mountain men of Blister Pack join us today for a great talk on '90s noise, true crime, video stores, and so much more. Emerson Murray and Nik Weisend were not only Blister Pack, but ran the Plague in Perspective label that focused on special packing. They both have solo projects ? Nik as Hive and Emerson under his own name ? and both have continued on different paths of art, from visual to the written word.

Classic album overview time is here again. Brighter Death Now's "Innerwar" is a pivotal album for industrial PE. The CD on Release was a staple in all 90s collections and it holds up better than ever to this day. A true landmark in the death industrial power electronics noise world, "Innerwar" is for everyone who?s had enough.

S-Core simply exists. There is no beginning or end. "My Candle Has Died" has always been there, it just took S Core to tap into the stream and bring it to life. A perfect album on a perfect label. These things live in no time and in all times. S-Core resides in mind. S-Core forever and ever.

Maria Zerfall passed away in February and Sean Ragon (Cult of Youth) had the idea to pay tribute to her with an episode. He chose the "Tote Zone" cassette to discuss which we used as a jumping point to get into her very mysterious discography.
