The crew also talk about the new MacBook Pro models and additional changes Apple has made to the keyboard. Even if they have ameliorated key malfunctions once and for all, public perception of their butterfly switches is toxic. Don't expect this design to last another generation.

AirPlaybnb

Georgia Dow, Lory Gil, and Mikah Sargent share a mix of rumors and bonafide news on this week's show! First up, Apple maintains their perfect score on the LGBTQ equality index for the 17th year in a row. PowerBeats Pro have been announced and will be shipping next month. They're a potentially more comfortable alternative to AirPods, while being more conducive to use during fitness activity.

There are some many rumors about the next generation of iPhones it can be hard to keep track of them all. An especially juicy one has to do with an increase in the number of cameras and the square placement of them on the back of the phone.

Netflix is killing AirPlay support ? they say it's because they can no longer guarantee a high quality experience due to Apple expanding AirPlay for use on third party video streaming boxes. And a final rumor for the episode. Apple is planning to break up iTunes into smaller app silos specific to the type of content they offer. Is the behemoth finally being cut down to size?

There's a new iPad mini and iPad Air 3, and spec bumped iMacs. Apple also announced AirPods 2, which add a wireless charging case and battery life improvements. Missing in action (for now?) were AirPower and a 7th generation iPod touch.

The March 25 event will likely focus exclusively on new services. We're expecting news and TV subscriptions, with the rumors percolating about a gaming service. There's also the Goldman Sachs partnership that could result in an Apple credit card.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg this week. The crew have rumors about a partnership between Apple and Goldman Sachs for a credit card. In the hardware realm, Apple is supposedly developing a 6K display to accompany the new Mac Pro. There might be a new 16" MacBook Pro in the works as well.

They also have a friendly debate about 'right to repair' legislation. And as a special bonus, Georgia shares her pro tip about Apple Watch bands!

This week's show begins with some follow up: The FaceTime bug has been zapped with iOS 12.1.4 and some companies are still skeezy! Rene Ritchie, Georgia Dow, and Mikah Sargent have plenty of news to share as well. Apple's retail head Angela Ahrendts is leaving in April and will be replaced by 30-year company veteran Deirdre O'Brien.

The Unicode Consortium has approved 230 new emoji for release in 2019. The new update increases the variety of skin tones available for some emoji, and adds depictions of people with various disabilities. There are also new animals, food items, and other objects.

645: No Nude To Be Creepy

Lory Gil, Georgia Dow, and Mikah Sargent provide the nitty gritty on a series of unfortunate events. Facebook and Google have been abusing user data in some unusual ways. They got caught ? leading Apple to revoke (and subsequently restore) the enterprise distribution certificates that enable internally utilized iOS apps.

Also, Apple has temporarily disabled Group FaceTime until a fix can be released. A not-so-tricky trick could be exploited to listen in on audio from another user before they've accepted your call.

It's not all bad news this week. Rumor has it Apple is developing 3D camera tech for iPhones to be released later year. If true, this could further advance the augmented reality capabilities of our favorite pocket supercomputers. Check it out!

From there, Lory professes her undying love for the 4" iPhone form factor. iPhone SE has been available once again at clearance pricing, but she advocates for a new version with updated internals. #iPhoineSEUnite

The gang also debate the idea of Apple removing Google as the default search engine on their products. Apple News is coming to Canada ? earning a fully justifiable "finally"!

208: Best of Apple 2018

Every year, to end the year, I put together lists of what I think Apple did best and worst for the last 12 months. I?ve already posted the list of the worst so, now, I?m going to spend a got minute focusing on the positive. What Apple did right and how I?d like to see Apple keep building on it for next year.

Not because I?m a fanboy or apologist or any other dismissive term those who have tribal fury but lack the articulation to form any factual, cohesive arguments to the contrary, but because if you don?t recognize the good along with the bad, the jobs well done amongst those still left to be done, them you fail to promote the direction you want to see continue and focus you want to see carried on.

So, what made this year?s list?

There's huge news in the re-kindled (pun not intended) relationship between Amazon and Apple. Available later this December, Echo devices will support Apple Music.

In less happy news, Marriott says records from 500 million Starwood guests were stolen in a massive data breach. The extent of the information leaked in the breach is still being determined.
