Have you ever wondered what happened to some of the characters in Bedford Falls after the events of "It's a Wonderful Life"? My guest today is author John Theo, and he wondered the same thing and has written a piece of fan fiction exploring that very thing. Get ready for a wonderful new cozy story, and then stay tuned for Friday, as I have John Theo back on the podcast as a guest and we talk about this story and more.

In today's episode, author Kevin Moore returns to read us a story from his recent collection entitled "Christmas Stories, Vol. 2". The story is called "The Rag Tag Sleigh Flyers", and it's a heartwarming story set at the North Pole. Henry the Elf is in trouble. It's almost Christmas and Santa's reindeer are not able to fly! What could the problem be, and will they figure out a solution before Christmas is canceled?
I am so grateful for Kevin sharing his beautiful story with us! You can find his Christmas books and other books he's written at https://kevinmoorepublishing.com/

Today I sit down with author Kevin Moore who has published two volumes of Christmas stories. First we talk about the joy that Christmas can bring, even during difficult times (which has been the unofficial theme of my podcast this year!). Then we dig into his book and talk about some of the short stories in it. Then we dive deep into the joy of Christmas and talk about our favorite Christmas things, the surprising differences between an LA and New York City Christmas (hint - it involves graveyards), and ways to spread Christmas kindness to our neighbors!
Stay tuned - on Friday another episode will be out, and Kevin will be back to read one of his stories!

Hello everyone! Today's episode was intended for Halloween, then it was intended for Christmas Podcast Day, then it was intended for yesterday... But it's here now, so better late than never, right?! In today's episode I talk about another delicious recipe I tried - Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll Muffins. I highly recommend! Then for our story I read the odd but charming story "Little Roger's Night in the Church" by Susan Coolidge. What happens when a young boy gets accidently locked in a church on Christmas Eve? Some very strange things like talking owls, fairies, and more!
Here's a better recipe that I found, called Pumpkin Cinnamon Streusel Muffins: https://sweetkitchencravings.com/recipes/pumpkin-cinnamon-streusel-muffins/

In today's episode, I share another fun recipe suitable for fall, talk a little bit about the Cozy Christmas Book Club, then I read Robert McCormick's article that was written for Charles Dickens' magazine Household Words in December of 1850. Dickens himself probably wrote the introduction and conclusion of the article, but McCormick reflects on his experiences of celebrating Christmas in Anarctica during a naval exploration he was involved with. It's a fascinating look at how people can find Christmas cheer no matter where they may find themselves!

I hope your plans for fall come together better than the main character in today's story by O. Henry. In "The Cop and the Anthem", we follow Soapy, a homeless man living in New York City, who has an interesting plan on how to hunker down for the winter...

Let's face it - sometimes, Christmas can be hard. But does that mean we have to lose the joy of Christmas forever?
My guest today is Alexandra Walker - and she has just written a fantastic book called "Reclaiming Christmas" in which she explores her story of how Christmas was a difficult time for her, and the steps she took to reclaim the joy of Christmas. Healing is possible, and I think that her book can be a help to many who might find the season of Christmas difficult. I admit that abuse recovery is not a "cozy" topic, but we do focus more on the recovery aspect and steps you can take towards recovery, especially in connection with the Christmas season. It's not all serious conversations though - we do also take time to talk about some of our favorite things about the Christmas season, including whether or not Brussel Sprouts should be a part of Christmas dinner...
Alexandra and I invite you to sit back and relax, and enjoy this cozy conversation that brought tears of joy to my eyes!
I'm excited to introduce you to my new friend Alexandra. Just so you know, I am not being paid to say these things - I think Alexandra has a genuine good product here, and I am personally benefiting from what I read in her book and from the discussion we had. Here are some links to her website and book, and you will find a full list of what she offers, including free gifts, 1:1 packages, group programmes and on-demand courses. The list is grouped into different categories - Sing After The Storm, Wellbeing Toolbox, Christmas, and Entrepreneurship. Enjoy browsing!

Happy Leon Day! (A day late - sorry about that...)
Today I share a couple of Christmas book recommendations, and read you a cozy Christmas story called Christmas in the Alley by Olive Thorne Miller. Ann is a poor old washer woman with a heart of gold. Her husband is curmudgeon who just wants his tea and pipe. Like many people during the early 1900s they are living in extreme poverty. In spite of that, Ann often helps those in need. On Christmas Eve, she realizes that she has no money to help her and her family celebrate the day. Will there be a Christmas miracle? Probably... but what Ann does with the Christmas miracle really makes this story shine.

Merry Christmas! This is my Christmas episode, out a few days late I know - but Christmas is a season, not just a day, right?
Today I wrap up season 4 and Christmas 2023 with the kindness guru himself - Robert Peterpaul, host of the Art of Kindness Podcast, returns to talk about Christmas, the importance of showing kindness (love over fear for the win!) - and we digress into one of the most interesting conversations I've ever had about A Christmas Carol. And if that wasn't enough for you, it's a good thing this episode is supersized! We also gush about our amazing spouses, our fur babies, and more. Then I end the episode by reading a selection from A Christmas Carol.
This has been a great year for the podcast, but it's also been a long one. So I'll be taking a few extra weeks off from the podcast to rest, travel, and spend time with family. I'll see you again in late January as we'll begin Season 5!
Until then, let's remember to honor Christmas in our hearts, and try to keep it all the year.

It's Christmas Eve! The best day of the year. To help you celebrate, here is the final parts to our story this month, "Christmas at Thompson Hall" by Anthony Trollope. I rearranged my publication schedule a little bit and decided to combine the last two parts into one episode. I've had a lot of episodes come out this week, and didn't want to clog up your podcast feed TOO much. If you're interested in listening to the whole story, here are the links:
Part 3:
I know it says there will be 4 parts, but it's just 3. Sorry for any confusion!
Alright, I will have one more Christmas episode out on December 27th. Yes it will be two days after Christmas, but that's ok. Christmas is a season, not just a day!
I hope you enjoy our story today!

In today's episode I interview Katie Wilbert. She is the screenwriter of the new Christmas movie "A Vineyard Christmas". According to imdb: "Heather, host of 'Read Between the Vines', is determined to create the perfect Christmas episode by featuring a unique winery from her hometown. The only thing standing in her way? Rudy, the attractive, stubborn owner of the winery."
In our interview, we talk about her journey to becoming a screenwriter, how her movie was made, and then Katie shares some of her picks of movies if you'd like to snuggle down with your significant other and watch some great Romantic Comedies Christmas movies. Can you believe Christmas will be here in only two weeks!!?? To help you celebrate the season, this month I will be reading the story "Christmas at Thompson Hall" by Anthony Trollope. It was first published in the magazine 'The Graphic' in their Christmas issue in 1876.
In the first part of the story, Mrs. Brown and a reluctant Mr. Brown are traveling to see Mrs. Brown's family at Thompson Hall for Christmas. On their journey, Mr. Brown decides to break up their trip and stay in a hotel because he's not feeling well... (definitely was the man flu!). The well-meaning (and slightly peeved) Mrs. Brown decides to try and prepare him a mustard poultice... what could possibly go wrong?
Make sure to subscribe so you won't miss a single episode of this funny and heartwarming story, Christmas at Thompson Hall!
Also, be sure to follow me on my other youtube channel, as I am talking about A Christmas Carol and other related books! https://www.youtube.com/c/ArtBookshelfOdyssey

My guest today is Kyle Poehls. He is a Marine Corps veteran whose life took a dramatic turn after surviving two comas during his military service. Born in 1985, he found his passion for writing in the final years of his service, and despite facing numerous seizures and another coma just before his planned exit, he persevered. In March of 2017, he began crafting "From Nicholas to Christmas", a tale about the early life of Santa Claus. Today, with a reinvigorated outlook on life, he embodies the belief that every day should be lived as if it were the last.
In today's episode Kyle walks us through his journey, and how his severe health scares inspired him to take a chance and get his book out into the world. It's a powerful story that you won't want to miss! We also talk about our favorite movies, music and more. It's a conversation that ranges from children's stories to Die Hard (Yes we think it's a Christmas movie, NO, we are not going to rehash all the arguments) to Home Alone 2 and the best character in that movie (New York City).
My past couple of guests have both served in the military. After my conversation with Kyle, I reflect a few moments on the Pearl Harbor anniverary, the fear of war, and the necessity to treat each other with kindness and human dignity.

Hello everyone! Happy December - we made it to the Christmas month! Today, I have a special guest on the show. His name is Tyler Mitchell, and he wrote a new children's book called "Double Trouble and the Upside Down Christmas Tree". The book is based on a true story: "This is a Christmas story about a young family with three children, two of whom are twin toddlers who are experts at getting into trouble. This is especially true when it comes to their Christmas tree, prompting their dad to get creative and hang it from the ceiling to keep their little hands off it. The oldest son, eight, recounts the chaos that occurred before the tree hung from the ceiling. But does Santa deliver presents to homes with an upside-down Christmas tree?"
The book not only tells a fun story, but it also teaches kids the value of being helpful to their parents - especially around the Christmas season!
Tyler and I talk about his inspiration in writing this story as well as we chat about our favorite Christmas foods, movies, memories and traditions.
His book is currently sold out on Amazon and B&N, but if you go to https://store.bookbaby.com/book/double-trouble-and-the-upside-down-christmas-tree you can order it there, and use coupon code Save30 at checkout for 30% off!

I've got a fun one today - I'm talking about my favorite holiday drink, eggnog! My guest today is Trisha Barton, the A&E Dairy Marketing Manager and Egg Nog enthusiast. In my opinion, they make the absolute best eggnog, so I reached out to see if I could find out all about their product, history, and magic of NOG. We talk about A&E's history, how the nog is made (spoiler: Christmas magic!), some healthier alternatives to straight nog, and of course recipes! See the link below for more information.
And then I end the podcast by reading a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson: "In Memoriam (Ring Out, Wild Bells)". You can find out more about Alfred's life here: https://poets.org/poet/alfred-lord-tennyson

Hello! Happy Christmas Podcast Day everyone! As all of us at the Christmas Podcast Network are talking about some of our favorite versions of A Christmas Carol, today I am going to look at a stage version - specifically I want to talk about how Charles Dickens performed a one man version of the novel, and how that carries on today through his Great Great Grandson, Gerald Dickens. I replay some clips from my interview with Gerald back in December 2020 where he talked about how he began to perform the Carol 30 years ago. I recommend you go and take a listen to the full episode!

In today's episode, my guest is Ken Smith from the North Pole News Dispatch! He's made his way down from Santa's village to talk to us about his Christmas memories and stories, his podcast, Christmas PJs (No pictures available, sorry! LOL!), and of course - the weather!
While Ken was reflecting on how Christmas has changed for him over the years, I realized that was a good title for the episode. We both talked about things that have changed, and things that remain the same. But even though how we celebrate might change over the years, one thing remains the same: Christmas is best celebrated with your friends and family!

In this heartwarming episode of "The Cozy Christmas Podcast," we invite you to gather 'round and experience the magic of a classic Victorian Christmas tale. Join us as we delve into Elizabeth Gaskell's enchanting story, "Christmas Storms and Sunshine," where we explore the true spirit of the season.
Set in a quaint English village, we follow the journey of a young family who, for too long, harbored grudges against their neighbors. Will a near-disaster during the holiday season prompt a transformation in their hearts? Mrs. Gaskell's classic tale offers us a lesson of reconciliation, community, and the power of Christmas goodwill. It's a story that reminds us all that even in the coldest of winters, the warmth of our hearts can melt away any frosty disputes and lead us to a more harmonious, joy-filled holiday season.

Hello everyone, Happy October! In today's episode I sit down with my daughter Grace and we catch up on life. Find out what she's been up to this past year and how school is going for her now that she is in 9th grade. But of course, we do talk about Christmas - I find out she has some hot takes on gingerbread and which Grinch movie she prefers; we talk about who is the hardest and easiest person in our family to Christmas shop for; and then she shares some thoughts on how to show kindness during the Christmas season.
Then I read a beautiful Christmas letter sent in by a listener. She wrote it to her children and it's entitled "Christmas Keeper" - and I hope that you or someone in your family is the official Keeper of Christmas!
In my family, it's probably me...

Hello and Happy Christmas in July! In today's episode I read you a charming Christmas story called "Mr. Kris Kringle". In this classic story, it's Christmas Eve, and two children and their single mother are facing having to leave their home soon and move to the city. They are also poor so Kris Kringle - aka Santa Claus - won't be able to visit them this year. After the kids go to bed for the night, they hear a noise outside. What - or who? - could it be? Kris Kringle? A Robber? What happens next is a beautiful story of miracles and redemption.

Hello! Today's episode is pretty straightforward - we finally have the Cozy Christmas Book Club up and running, so I share all the book club news. If you're interested in joining please head over the Cozy Christmas Book Club Page on facebook!
Then I finish reading chapter 1 of the Christmas novella The Chimes by Charles Dickens. In the story today, Trotty hears his daughters news, and deals with 3 very unpleasant people who could really use a visit from a Ghost of Christmas... but since this is actually a New Years story, we'll have to wait and see.

In today's episode, we wrap up the 2022 Christmas Season with a cozy Christmas conversation with mystery author Peggy Ehrhart. She is the author of the Knit and Nibble mysteries, and has written several Christmas books for the series. In this episode we talk about her journey to becoming a published author, which includes being a former English professor with a doctorate in Medieval Literature! Then we talk about all the delicious foods one can find in cozy Christmas mysteries, and she walks us through her writing process. Then in the second half of the interview, she takes the Cozy Christmas questionnaire and we find out all about her thoughts on the different Christmas traditions that we know and love. This is a wonderfully cozy way to end the year, and I'm looking forward to beginning season 4 and counting down to Christmas 2023!
Be sure to stick around for January and February - I'll be reading the New Year's set novella, "The Chimes" by Charles Dickens, and I have lots of other fun things planned!

It's almost Christmas, and today I want to give you a story and a message for Christmas. I've had a few listeners wondering if I could address some of my thoughts about the religious significance of Christmas. So in today's episode I want to talk about what Christmas means to me, what my faith means to me, and how the two are connected. I also read you a very sweet and inspiring story written by Leo Tolstoy. It's also known as "Simon the Cobbler" and it tells the story of an elderly shoe maker. One day he hears a voice - God - saying that He would come and visit him tomorrow. So that next day Simon gets up and works by his window, looking out at the people and waiting for Christ to arrive. What he sees and does in response is what makes this story a beautiful message of what God's love looks like.
This is a bit more religious than what I usually do on my podcast, but I felt like it was a message I wanted to share, and in some ways needed to share. My hope is that this episode will encourage you to be kind, to do good, and to honor Christmas in your heart, and try to keep it all the year.
From me and my family to all of you, I hope you have a very merry Christmas!

Today, we're celebrating the 100th episode of A Cozy Christmas podcast. I have a Q&A section where I answer questions and share Christmas memories from the audience. Then singer/songwriter Rehya Stevens and I sit down and catch up on life, and we talk about our favorite Christmas albums and the memories we have of them. Rehya then gives us some great tips on how to show kindness towards others during this time of year. (some of the organizations she mentioned are posted below if you're interested.) I've been really excited to get this episode out, and I can't wait to see what the next 100 episodes will bring.
And Christmas is just 5 days away!

The worlds of Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens collide!
In today's episode I talk to writer/director Mark Shanahan - who's back on the show to talk more about his play A Sherlock Carol. Along for the ride is his partner in this endeavor, Drew McVety - he stars as Sherlock Holmes and is also one of the producers. After we catch up with Mark and find out all about how Drew portrays Sherlock Holmes, I subject them to another round of the Cozy Christmas Questionnaire - and it turns out these two are full of Christmas spirit, (even if one of them doesn't like Egg Nog...). I also find out that not only are these two incredibly talented people, but they are also some of the kindest people you will ever meet. So settle in for another Cozy Christmas conversation and join us as we chat about A Sherlock Carol and Christmas shopping, music, foods, and memories - and find out why we should all aspire to be like Ebenezer Scrooge!

Hello! My guest today is cozy mystery writer Carol J. Perry. She is the author of the Haunted Haven series and the Witch City Mystery series. We have a fun conversation talking about her books. I'd especially recommend her most recent one called "High Spirits", as it takes place at Christmas. Later on, the conversation turns to Christmas and we talk about some of her favorite memories and traditions, what Christmas is like in Florida vs New England, and during the Cozy Christmas Questionnaire, we get side tracked talking about mince meat pie. Carol is living a full and happy life, and she brings an abundance of Christmas cheer... even if she does plot murders for a living!

Hello! Since I've been talking to a lot of mystery writers lately, I thought I should read a classic crime story to you today - "Stuffing" by Edgar Wallace. It's basically a story of a heist gone wrong, and Wallace skillfully weaves together the stories of a poor newly married couple about to leave for Canada to start a new job, a couple of crooks, and a rich man with a safe full of money. The story is both funny and charming! A perfect read for this time of year.

Hello friends, today's episode brings much joy... Sarah Joy Kane is our guest! I catch up with her and find out about the musical she's in, Scrooge No More, currently showing at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. If you're able to see her in the performance, tell her I said hello! Then we talk about her life as a military wife and what we can do to help support our troops and their families. And then we get down to the really important questions - which is better Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Colored Lights or White lights? SNOW OR SUN? These questions and more are answered in the joyful way that only Sarah can bring.

Dead bodies keep turning up at the North Pole. Good thing that Mrs. Claus is on the case! That's right, I have Liz Ireland, author of the Mrs. Claus Cozy Mystery Series. She's here to talk about her new book "Mrs. Claus and the Evil Elves" and we have a wonderful chat about her book, Christmas, and of course Charles Dickens and a Christmas Carol. Can you guess which of us has more copies of Christmas Carol audiobooks? And just how many are too many?
There's a lot to laugh over in this episode, but we also share some simple ways everyone can bring some Christmas cheer to those who might be in short supply. So come on in and enjoy this cozy conversation I had with Liz Ireland.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Today, we're talking turkey...
In today's episode I take a brief look at where the tradition of eating turkey comes from, and discover a few traditional Christmas meals from around the world.
Then I read Louisa May Alcott's short story, "A Christmas Turkey, and How It Came". Does this old story still have a relevant message for us today? Indeed it does. But it's also a wonderfully sweet story to listen to while you slowly digest your Thanksgiving Dinner.
Also, our 100th episode is fast approaching! If you have a story, memory, tradition, favorite recipe or any questions for the Q&A segment on our 100th, get it to me asap at any of my social medias or email me at cozychristmaspodcast at gmail dot com!

Hello everyone - today we are talking poetry. I have the amazing North Pole Poet Laureate with me today, Amy Marschak. She was named by Santa himself to spread Christmas cheer throughout the world by her improv poetry. That's right - improv! So in today's episode I talk to her about life as Santa's poet, and then she kindly demonstrates her talent and comes up with several poems for me with just a few prompts. You will be captivated by her Christmas cheer! There is a video version of this interview on my youtube channel if you'd like to see the interview.
Gracie and I then get together and see if we can't do some improv poetry too... it turns out it was a bit harder than we thought, but we had a lot of fun!

In this episode, I hope to help you get in the Halloween mood, as I have a delightful Christmas story for you today... one that is perfect for Halloween!
Today I read for you The Signal Man by Charles Dickens. It was a story published in the collection called "Mugby Junction" that was published for Christmas 1866. Charles Dickens edited the collection and added a couple of other stories by other authors all centered around the rail line.
The Signal Man tells the story of a railway signal man who thinks he's seen a ghost that may or may not be giving him a message from beyond the grave. The first two times he saw it, a disaster followed soon after. What could this third time mean? Find out in today's story! I'll also share some of the background & history of the story, and what likely inspired Dickens to write it - an event that almost killed him.

Happy October! Today's episode is pretty special - it was mostly written by you, my listeners! A few days ago I posted a question on my social medias, "Is Santa real?" and you all responded en masse... in today's episode I read many of your responses and talk about them, and then end the episode with an original true story that inspired this entire episode. One of my listeners named Daniel Morgan sent me this wonderful story that shows the power of belief, imagination... and Santa Claus! I know you'll enjoy it.
If you have an original story or memory you'd like to send me, don't be afraid to reach out. I'd love to feature it on an upcoming episode.
Merry October to you all, and as the saying goes - may you never be too old to search the skies on Christmas eve!

Hello everyone! I'm back from an unplanned hiatus, and I'm reading to dive into the 'Ber months with my Christmas cheer. Today's episode is a fun one - I start things off talking about my crazy August and a misadventure with a bat. Then I open the mail bag and share some emails that have come my way.
The majority of the episode is then given over to a discussion with the filmmakers from the recent short film "Black Santa". Writer-Director Travis Wood and writer Weston Auburn talk to me about how the film came about, the message they hope it inspires, and the importance of representation. Here are some links to the film and it's imdb page. I'd recommend watching it before listening to the episode if you don't want minor spoilers of the film.

I also share a story about one of my Christmases gone wrong! So settle in for another cozy story as we bring Christmas in July 2022 to a conclusion!

Happy Christmas in July! Buckle up, because this episode has a little bit of everything in it -
I finally catch up with Gracie and she talks about her role in our community theater's production of The Sound of Music. We then talk about our trip to Bronner's Christmas Store, and of course had to taste test some cookies I picked up from there. After that we get very silly and attempt to talk in British accents (with horrible results) and I do my worst impression of Kermit the Frog - (with apologies to Tim Babb and the Can't Wait for Christmas Podcast - you can keep your Imaginary Listener Who Kind of Sounds Like Kermit the Frog!)
After that author Nat Bickel stops by to read her new Christmas short story "The Adventures of Phoebe's Christmas Dwarf" which is going to be published this fall in a new collection of heartwarming Christmas stories.
Remember to honor Christmas in your heart, and try to keep it all the year... this episode will surely help you do that!

Happy Christmas in July! I'm back from vacation and ready to count down the next 6 months to Christmas. We're going to get things started by talking about a couple of book related things. I also recommend a new Christmas novel I came across recently that I really enjoyed.
Our story today is called "The Christmas Dream and How It Came True" by Louisa May Alcott. It's a really sweet story about a young girl named Effie who learns a valuable lesson about giving. Is it more blessed to give than to recieve? Effie is about to find out.

Our Christmas story wraps up this week with part 3 of The Burglar and The Blizzard by Alice Miller. Things get tense as the story's characters enjoy a somewhat tense Christmas dinner. Will Geoffrey be able to get McVey to confess, or will McVey out smart him? Will McVey's sister discover the truth about him? Will true love (for a woman he just met mere hours ago) triumph? It's our 75th episode! It's amazing to think about number 100 is coming up this year. Thank you all so much for coming along on this incredible Christmas journey.
In today's episode, things are a little more somber and reflective as I consider some of the events that are happening in the world today. I talk about The Christmas Truce in WWI and then I read the short story "Merry Christmas" that Canadian author Stephen Leacock wrote in 1914 as a response to the war that was happening around the globe at the time. It's a somewhat somber story, but one with a powerful message of hope and peace.
To our Ukrainian listeners - we are hoping and praying you will have peace and safety. Hang in there.

Ok, there's still a lot of time left until Christmas, and I'm excited to be starting season 3!
In today's episode I share with you one of Charles Dickens' Christmas short stories, but it's not as well known as it should be.
The story is called Doctor Marigold, and it tells the tale not of a physician, but of a "cheapjack". During the Victorian age, a cheapjack was someone who hawks wares from the back of a traveling wagon. They lived by their ability to talk and tell stories and convince people to buy their wares.
Doctor Marigold is a lonely man who adopts a neglected orphan girl who is also deaf and mute. Why he does it, and how he learns to communicate with her are just part of the beautiful moments in this story. The story does get dark, but the light shines brightly by the end.
Content Warning: contains mild descriptions of physical abuse of a child.

Welcome to the season finale of A Cozy Christmas Podcast! Today, we're going to consider Charles Dickens' Christmas Tree, as well as a special announcement for a reading challenge.
In 1850 Dickens published a reflection piece for Christmas entitled "A Christmas Tree". And in typical Dickens fashion, he has a lot of words to say about his tree and the memories from his past that it conjures up. Though at times the story is a bit strange, who hasn't occasionally gotten lost in nostalgia while enjoying the lights of their Christmas tree?
I also am announcing a group reading challenge for us this year! As you know, I love to read, so I created 12 reading challenges based on Christmas movies. Check out my social medias for the check list or go to www.cozychristmaspodcast.com and you can download the check list there. Every Wednesday I'll be posting about what books I'm reading for the challenge and I'd love to hear from you as well. Take a listen and find out what prompt we're doing first for January!
See you all on the socials every Wednesday - let me know if you'll be reading the prompts and which books you pick.
Season 3 begins January 24th! See you then...
Keep an eye out for a bonus midseason story on or about January 14th...

Merry Christmas Eve! It's my favorite day of the year. And to help you celebrate today, here is part 5 from A Christmas Carol. Let's find out what happens to Scrooge after his ghostly visits. Is it too late for him to change?
Also stick around after the story, as my friends at the Christmas Podcast Network have put together a special Christmas greeting for you. We all want to thank you for listening to our podcasts - for many of us, this is a work of love and we don't do it for the fame or fortune. We couldn't do this without you!
After the greeting, I wrap up the episode with a few thoughts about how I will be spending Christmas Eve. See you tomorrow for one more episode before the new year!

Today's episode begins with a listener's memory - Mika Jeane wrote a beautiful new Christmas song and I loved it so much I wanted to play it on the podcast for all of you. Thank you Mika for letting me share this with my other listeners! The song is called Light Up, and you can also hear it on Mika's youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q58XM5etc5k&ab_channel=MikaJeane
Then guest and new friend of the show Sarah Joy Kane stops by to have a fun Christmas chat with me. She's a singer and stage actor from NYC who's husband has recently joined the military.
We talk about their transition from performing on stage to military life, we talk about our faith and how creativity connects us to God. After that the fun really kicks in, and we play a spirited game of "Would You Rather - Christmas Edition" and then finish up talking about more of our favorite Christmas things, including Christmas Eve family traditions. Linked below are Sarah's social media accounts and you will definitely want to follow her there. She spreads kindness and good cheer 365 days a year!

Here's part 4 of A Christmas Carol. Scrooge meets the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and is shown a cold, bleak future. Will he have a chance at redemption? This chapter has some of the most beautifully described scenes by Dickens. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

Christmas is Coming Soon - and yes that's true, but it's also my favorite new Christmas song from singer/songwriter Rehya Stevens on her brand new album, 'Tis the Season.
In today's episode I talk with Rehya about our Christmases last year and this year's expectations, her new album and some of my favorite songs from it, what makes Christmas music sound Christmasy, and the challenges of writing new Christmas music, among other things.
Forget about all the "Spiderman No Way Home" reviews being released today, Gracie is here to bring you the review that you actually want to hear: she and I review the Birmingham Children's Theaters production of ELVES 2.0 - find out what she thought of it, her opinions of the actors and the writing, and then we toss around some ideas for ELVES 3.0... (you're welcome Sina!) and then have a little Christmas chat. Gracie has some very strong opinions about the kids in her school and when they think it's an appropriate time to decorate...

Hi everyone, sorry this is late, but we've been sick (again) so it's made me get off schedule a little bit.
But I finally got Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Stave 3 edited and ready to go for you!
In this section Scrooge meets the Ghost of Christmas Present - and we'll see the classic scenes of the Cratchit Family as well as Scrooge's nephew's Christmas party. This was really fun to read!
After I read the story, I get on a ramble about how much I love this chapter in the book, and some of the lessons it teaches me.

The Birmingham Children's Theater is back with a new Zoom play called Elves 2.0! This year the Elves at the North Pole are ready for anything - and they want to invite your kids along on a virtual tour of the NP! They've learned from all the mistakes and malfunctions that happened last year are ready for anything. What could possibly go wrong?
We have a full crew in the interview booth today: friend of the show Sina Skates, writer of Elves 2.0. We're also joined by actors Davey Morrison, who plays Stevie the Green Elf, and LaShondra Hood, she plays Morgan the Red Elf.
We have an absolute blast talking about the play and how it came together this year, and what's different about it from last year's play. Then we talk about our favorite Christmas music, movies, traditions, and then I blatantly steal a question from the Christmas Time in the City Podcast and we talk about what we would want Santa to say to us if we ever got to visit the North Pole. We also attempt to answer questions like - what is Santa's favorite Christmas movie? There is a ton of fun in store!
Below are the links to the BCT website, as well as some promotional videos you can watch to get an idea of the show.

In today’s show, I’m interviewing author Natalie Bickel about her new children’s Christmas book, The Christmas Clue. We talk about the best Children stories to read at Christmas time, as well as our Christmas memories, favorite movies and so much more.
I also share a listener memory about how he fell in love with his wife during Christmas time, and that leads me down memory lane to talk about how me and my wife started dating, sort of, at Christmas time.
(Note: During the interview, my audio is not the best - I'm not sure what was going on with my microphone, so hopefully it's not too distracting.)

We're going back to the theater today! And there's a mystery afoot...
What happens when the worlds of Sherlock Holmes and Ebenezer Scrooge are thrown together? Find out in the new play that debuts today in NYC, A Sherlock Carol. My guest today is Mark Shanahan, he’s the writer and director of the play. He comes from an extensive background in acting, writing and directing many plays both for the stage and radio. He stops by and we chat about his new play, the challenges of performing theater safely during a pandemic, and the power of stories - especially those by Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens.
Then, I read a Christmas mystery story by Thomas Hardy called "The Thieves Who Couldn't Stop Sneezing." It is a funny short story about a young man named Hubert who stumbles across some thieves planning to rob a nearby mansion. Find out what happens in this charming holiday tale.

Hello everyone! In today's episode I share a listener memory that's an emotional one. Fan of the show Katie shares her memory of spending Christmas 2010 with her niece who had leukemia.
After I share that, I give a few tips on how to celebrate the holidays after a loved one has passed away. This can be a difficult conversation, but it's something that many of us have experienced.
Then, author Ed Daly stops by to talk about his new work, The Christmas Book: The Ultimate Guide to Your Favorite Holiday. We talk his book, the origin and development of Christmas traditions, and of course our favorite Christmas books and stories. Check out the Cozy Christmas YouTube channel to see the November video in my Cozy Christmas Book Corner series to get my review of his book and a couple of others that I read last month.

Happy November everyone! And happy Christmas Podcast Day!
Have you ever wondered if a relative or friend might just be Santa Claus? Today I share a listener's memory of how his family member dressed up as Santa Claus one Christmas. His story reminds me of a Christmas tale that I read in the episode - "Old Father Christmas" by Juliana Horatia Ewing. It tells the story of two small children who think a local elderly man they meet near their house might just be Santa Claus.
There's a few other odds and ends packed away in the episode, and be sure to check out the Cozy Christmas YouTube channel to see Gracie and I give some Christmas gift ideas as we look through some Christmas catalogues.

The name's Claus... MRS. Claus...
Have you ever wondered what Mrs. Claus does all year while Santa prepares for Christmas? Well, according to a new books series by author Liz Ireland, she solves mysteries. In today's episode I interview Liz Ireland, and we talk about her excellent new Mrs. Claus cozy mystery series and of course there's lots of talk about our favorite books, Christmas, movies and memories.
After my chat with Liz, I read you another classic Christmas story, "Mr. Bluff's Experiences of the Holiday" written by Oliver Bell Bunce. It tells the story of Mr Bluff who dislikes holidays like Christmas. Will he, like many a Christmas protagonist before him, have a change of heart? Find out in today's story!

Happy October everyone! In today's episode I share a listener's memory from a cozy farm in Canada and he tells us about how his town welcomes Christmas. Then I head over to Portugal and share a couple of fun Christmas traditions the town of Braga has on Christmas eve. Finally, I read the essay Old Thoughts for Christmas by Christopher Morley. Published during the Christmas season after the Treaty of Versailles was signed, Morley ponders the gift of peace and the need for kindness after such a horrific world war - and finds that Christmas can bring these things to us.
And be sure to keep an eye out on the youtube channel this week as I'll be posting a video review of the book Mrs. Claus and the Santaland Slayings by Liz Ireland.

We've come to the final chapter of The Christmas Hirelings by Mary Elizabeth Braddon! It's a tear jerker for sure... or is just me?
In this chapter, when Moppet is struck dangerously ill (as so frequently happens to children in Victorian literature), Sir John must come to terms with his love for the little girl. They are not sure whether Moppet will live or die, and then the children's mother shows up... and Sir John's life may never be the same again.
Grab some eggnog and box of kleenex... and enjoy this cozy Victorian Christmas story!
See you all in August!

It's the Christmas holidays at Penlyon Place! In part three of the story, there are several Christmas meals and celebrations that Sir John, Danby, Miss Hawberk and the three children attend. Sir John and the youngest child Moppet continue to form a loving bond. These chapters overflow with Christmas cheer and is definitely worth making some hot chocolate while you listen.
In these chapters, we find out what happens on the first day that three children come to stay with Sir John Penlyon for Christmas. Will he further shut off his broken heart from them or will they charm their way through his gruff exterior?
Enjoy the second part of a heart warming Christmas tale!
Due to life being crazy and my inability to read a calendar correctly (long story, don't ask) I don't think I'm going to be able to get another regular episode out on Monday this week, but no worries, I will have part 3 of this story out next Friday. I'll also be taking a vacation at the end of July/early August, so there will be a couple weeks break.
Here's the Upcoming Schedule for the rest of Christmas in July and August (subject to change):
7/24 Part 3 of The Christmas Hirelings
7/26 Episode 47, Bill from thevillagecollector.com will be back, and other Christmas fun!
7/31 Part 4 of The Christmas Hirelings
8/15 Episode 49
8/30 EPISODE 50!!

It's our 1 year anniversary... and to celebrate, I baked each and every listener a chocolate turtle brownie... but then I ate them all.
To celebrate today, I've got some special things in the episode including:
A brand new Christmas story called The City of Limes by Jamie Kleman, then I talk to the author in an interview. After that Gracie and I chat about mince pies, brownies, and bears... oh my! Welcome to a special bonus episode of A Cozy Christmas Podcast.
Today, I'll begin reading one of my favorite Christmas novellas, The Christmas Hirelings by Mary Elizabeth Braddon.
Though it was published closer to the end of the Victorian period in 1894, it captures all the hallmarks of a Victorian story, overflowing with sentimentality - but there are some wonderful Christmasy scenes as well.
It tells the story of a lonely, gruff widower Sir John Penlyon as he spends Christmas with his friend Danby and his niece Adela. Danby points out how Christmas is dull without children around, and Sir John agrees. Danby quickly hatches a scheme to find some children to hire to bring into Sir John's lonely house. Will the children bring some much needed joy to Sir John's life?
In today's episode, we begin with the prologue that sets the story up, and then chapters 1-2 explain Sir John's backstory and why he has become so withdrawn and gruff. In next week's chapters, we will pick up where the prologue left off and find out what happens when the children arrive at Penlyon Place.
Enjoy!

Sina Skates, playwright from the Birmingham Children's Theater, is back on the show today and we're talking about keeping the magic of Christmas alive - 365! Well at least that's what we started talking about. As usual the conversation wanders - we talk about what’s coming this Christmas at the BCT, how to get through the difficult Christmases, what keeps us in the mood for Christmas all year round, and all kinds of other topics. Sina wants to be the Christmas light in a dark world and she brings plenty of that to our episode today! Make yourself cozy and enjoy this interview!
I'll see you on Friday with the first of a 4 part story - The Christmas Hirelings, by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. There's a lot of fun coming this month in the podcast!

Hello everyone! This episode was supposed to be out last week but due to Graduations and crazy life stuff it got delayed until today.
Today's episode I talk about the book Christmas: A Biography, and then read you another story by Ellis Parker Butler.
In today's story Joanne is home from school for the Christmas holidays. She's hoping for a nice, relaxing rest but her next door neighbor and prankster Tommy Bassick might have something to say about that... Find out what happens to her on Christmas morning in this delightful and cozy Christmas story!

Happy May! In today's episode, I share a new segment called "This (Christmas) Day in History"... we go back to Christmas 1990 and learn about the creation of the World Wide Web - is that the best Christmas present ever?
Then Gracie and I chat about her birthday, and then we play a Christmas Trivia Game - who do you think will win?
Finally, I read a Christmas story entitled, "The Canned Plum Pudding" by Ellis Parker Butler. Have you ever had a regifting experience that went horribly wrong? Let this story serve as a lesson for you, and think twice before you send that gift off to someone else.

The Long-Awaited, Over Due Easter Episode is here... and since the Eastern Orthodox Church apparently doesn't recognize Easter until May 2nd... I guess it's still early?
Anyway, in today's episode I have author and blogger Gina Dalfonzo on to talk about Dickens' The Life of Our Lord, and we end up chatting about A Tale of Two Cities... though I don't mention it in the podcast, I think Tale of Two Cities might qualify as an "Easter Carol" - a great story to read every year at Easter time!
I also finish reading The Life of Our Lord and offer up a new book recommendation: "Christmas: A Biography" by Judith Flanders.

"God rest ye murdered gentlemen let nothing you dismay..."
Can a murder mystery be cozy? It can when in the capable hands of author Vicki Delany and her cozy mystery series, The Year-Round Christmas Mystery series. We head to Canada for a wonderful chat about her books. Unfortunately Rudolph, NY, where the series is set and Christmas is celebrated year round, is NOT a real place... but a Christmas podcast host can dream, right? And besides, who wouldn't want to catch a sight of Santa in his swimsuit, am I right?.... Hello? Anyone? Just me?
After my talk with Vicki I read another selection from The Life of Our Lord by Charles Dickens and I have a serious moment and share some Easter meditations I've been thinking on lately. I also share another listener memory and talk about some Christmas snacks.
Grab your egg nog (yum!) and some marshmallow peeps (barf), it's a Christmas and Easter episode!

Happy Easter month, to those who celebrate! In today's episode I talk a little bit about Charles Dickens' gospel, The Life of Our Lord, that he wrote for his children. Since this is primarily a Christmas podcast, I read from his chapters about the birth and early life of Christ.
I also share a listener's thoughts about a different perspective on A Christmas Carol, give a book recommendation for this month's Cozy Christmas Book Corner, and I share a memory of mine that explains why the carol "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" has haunted my nightmares.

Winter is in full swing, and Grace and I have the giggles today. I ask her some Holly Jolly Christmas questions and they quickly spiral into moments of laughter as we're interrupted by her Teddy Bears, we try to figure out the names of Santa's reindeer, and I'm reminded how nice a kid she is when I ask her the question: if you could have any gift on your wishlist what would it be? Her answer surprised me!
I also share another listener memory from Rick, and how the song "Downtown" puts him in a Christmas mood, I recommend a book, and read the story "The Set of Poe" by George Ade.
Though I don't mention it in the episode, we just hit 30,000 downloads! Thank you THANK YOU for all who have been listening this past year. I'm overwhelmed and grateful for you all!

Welcome to the start of season 2!
In today's episode, I share with you what has been keeping me in the Christmas mood (hint: snow, cookies, and music); Then I share an email from our listener Rick who writes to tell about his favorite Christmas movies - and he has some shocking and very strict guidelines on what counts as a Christmas movie. Then, I read the Christmas chapter from Charles Dickens' first novel, The Pickwick Papers.

It's the final episode of the 2020 Christmas season, and we've got a full and fun episode ahead.
I read another great memory from our listener Rick... we learn that sometimes gift giving can be a fun, but complicated, process. Then I interview Manny, the host of the Feliz Christmas Merry Navidad podcast and we talk about his podcast, paying it forward, and the magic of Santa.
After that, Gracie and I talk about her Christmas and some of the Teddy Bears she got, a couple of snow storms we experienced, and a (Covid Safe) Christmas surprise trip we were able to take.
I wrap up the first season with some reflections and stats about the show. I am overwhelmed by how you the listeners responded to the show. The show ends with a reading of Susan Noyes Anderson's poem, "Christmas Past: The Afterglow" which is a fitting end to a wonderful Christmas season.
See you all in a couple of weeks for Season 2!

Look out everyone, it's a flood of books! In today's episode I look at two different Christmas traditions - Jólabókaflóð the Icelandic celebration of books at Christmas, and Epiphany, the holiday that commemorates the Magi's visit to the baby Jesus.
In the Jólabókaflóð segment, I participate in the Christmas Carol Book Tag prompt in which I answer 8 Christmas Carol inspired questions about books.
In the Epiphany segment, I read the account of the Magi from Matthew Chapter 2, and then I read a couple of poems by Cecil Frances Alexander: "Once in Royal David's City" and "The Adoration of the Wise Men". I take a few minutes to reflect on the lessons from the story of the Wise Men. I don't know how you are supposed to celebrate Epiphany, but I enjoyed putting this together.
Oh, and tucked in between the segments is a wonderful listener memory from Rick. I know you'll enjoy his story, and we are going to hear more from him in the future.

We have a tale of two musicians today in this 2nd part from yesterday's Cozy Christmas Music episode.
First up is singer/songwriter Lucas Morgan. He is 17yo high school student who has just made his first album, called "Get Your Christmas On". It was so fun talking to a young man who knows what he wants to do and is going after it with passion. We chat about his album, his favorite music, and Christmas! Keep an eye on this kid - I think he's going to do great things!
You can find his album on amazon or sample it on youtube.
Here is his website: https://lucashuntermorgan.wixsite.com/lucasmorganmusic
His Spotify link: Grab your Christmas bratwursts everyone, because next I talk to Jake from the Chardon Polka Band. Like Lucas, he began to get interested in music while in school. Now he is a full time musician and brings the joy of polka music where he goes. Their new album, A Very Polka Christmas, brings some much needed fun to 2020. Hit the links below for more info and music! It's polka-liscious. www.chardonpolkaband.com facebook.com/thechardonpolkaband http://www.youtube.com/thechardonpolkabandIt's time to relax and take a deep breath and listen to music! Scott from the Jingle Jank podcast stops by to share some cozy Christmas songs and it will put you in the mood to stare out your window watching it snow all day...
Gracie and I get together to do a mad-lib version of a letter to Santa, and I surprise Gracie by telling her that I am going to mail it to Santa. You won't believe what she ends up asking Santa for Christmas.

Have yourself a Totally Rad Christmas, Dudes!
Today's guest is THE Gerry Davilla from A Totally Rad Christmas, and as you can tell right from the beginning, this episode is far out and gnarly and... all those other 1980's terms I can't remember. It begins with my very worst impression of one of my very favorite podcasters... and it derails from there... as you'll hear in the interview, I left all the bloopers in. :-)
Gerry and I get together and we laughed a lot, we told stories, we talked about movies, about the 80's, we had some moments of loud laughter and deep thoughts about our families and a little bit about faith, too. Come sit with us by the cozy Christmas fire, and enjoy today's episode!
I share a story a listener sent me about a special memory she has of her grandpa, and then I read "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry and reflect on the story for a few moments.
There's a lot of fun you won't want to miss! Later dudes...

The 2nd part of the Christmas Carol episode - and we're going back to the theater, sort of...
Charles Dickens died in 1870 but his legacy continues on strongly to this day. He is often synonymous with Christmas, and for good reason. 150 years after his death, Charles' great-great grandson Gerald Dickens keeps the family legacy going by performing in one man theatrical performances of A Christmas Carol and other works of Dickens.
Today Gerald stops by to chat about the story, Charles Dickens, Christmas, and the film version of his one man play that he just recorded this year.
See the film here: https://byerschoiceltd.vhx.tv/?campaign=geralddickens
Gerald also blogs about his travels as he does various theatrical performances: https://geralddickens.wordpress.com/

It's Part 1 of a 2 Part episode focused on A Christmas Carol!
In today's episode, I sit down with author Gina Dalfonzo and talk about the theme of redemption in A Christmas Carol. She had a new book published this year called The Gospel in Dickens, and if you're interested in the theology of Charles Dickens you should check it out.
So come on in, sit down by the Christmas fire as we discuss some of the theology found in A Christmas Carol.
And stay tuned for the next episode - it's dropping on December 14, and we will have a very special guest who comes by to chat more about A Christmas Carol.
Note: Religion can be a touchy subject. I know that all my listeners will have different views in their beliefs, and I in no way want to exclude anyone from this episode or the conversation. I'm here to learn and my hope is that this episode gives us all a deeper understanding of the text of A Christmas Carol and the religious beliefs of Charles Dickens that did influence a lot of his writing.

It's Christmas time everyone! And Grace and I get the opportunity to interview singer Johanna Jones about her new album "It's Christmastime"... the album is out already, (which I completely flubbed on, blame it on the COVID brain I had at the time lol!) and it's available everywhere. (See link below!)
Then Grace and I discuss our thoughts about the new interactive Zoom play put on by the Birmingham Children's Theater. And finally I read a couple of selections from Nancy Carey Johnson's book A Vermont Homesteader's Christmas Memories.
Christmastime is here, whether you are ready or not!

I have more fun than is allowed interviewing playwright Sina Skates and Director Alex Ungerman of The Birmingham Children's Theatre. This year they are not letting COVID stop them from entertaining children and have put together an interactive play called ELVES: The Experience that will be hosted over Zoom. Grace and I will give a review of the play in an upcoming episode, but for now, enjoy this energetic discussion of their play, the theatre, and, of course, Christmas!

(This episode was delayed because of COVID, and was supposed to air before Thanksgiving. That's why you'll hear me talk about Thanksgiving as if it were still coming.)
No, not presents... PRESENCE.
In today's episode I interview singer songwriter Rehya Stevens. We talk about her album Celebrate and we have a lot of laughs sharing Christmas memories. We talk about the importance of giving our presence - that's with a "c" not "t"! - and being there for our family and each other this during this difficult time. This is one of the most enjoyable interviews I've had so far, and I can't wait for you all to hear it.
My listener memory comes from my sister, and she talks about the joy of baking Christmas cookies with our Grandma.
I know it's past Thanksgiving, but I have another Thanksgiving story to share: I read A Mystery in the Kitchen by Olive Thorne Miller. It's a tender story of a sister named Jessie who's brother has run away from home. And why is Jessie sneaking around in the kitchen?

Grab a plate of turkey, stuffing and gravy and enjoy this extra cozy episode! I interview Brian Earl from the Christmas Past Podcast, and we chat about the origins of our podcasts, Christmas (of course!), and in the time-honored Thanksgiving tradition we share what we are thankful. Even though it's been a rough year for everyone, we find we have a lot to be thankful for. I hope you do too!
Then I read Louisa May Alcott's story, An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving. The Basset children are left on their own for a night before Thanksgiving when their parents are called away to tend their sick grandmother. How will they spend their time alone? By doing chores, reading stories by the fire, fending off a bear attack - and most daunting of all, preparing their own Thanksgiving dinner. Mother has done it every year - so how hard could it be?
(Episode Warning: Due to the extra coziness of this episode, it is advised to not listen will driving or operating heavy machinery. Listening to this episode while digesting a large turkey dinner can increase the drowsiness effect. Listener discretion is advised.)
Are you in the mood for a simple Christmas? In this episode, I have a phone interview with author Nancy Carey Johnson and talk about her book "The Vermont Homesteader's Christmas Memories". We talk about her book, homesteading, Christmas music, pets and we share heartwarming stories of family, friends, and Jolly the Christmas dog. It's a conversation you won't want to miss! And her book is full of many more wonderful stories.
Gracie and I have a chat about our hopes for Thanksgiving... she wants to see her Grandma and Grandpa, and I want to eat my weight in stuffing and turkey.
Then for our story, I read a couple of poems. "Christmas Carol" by Paul Laurence Dunbar, and "War Time Christmas" by World War I poet Joyce Kilmer.

In today's episode, listener Mackenzie shares a memory of her Black Friday tradition. Then I interview author CJ Livingstone of the new Christmas book "Santa, Inc." We talk about his book, Christmas, and the power of kindness. Finally, I read Louisa May Alcott's story "Tilly's Christmas" which continues the theme of showing the power of kindness.
So with kindness, hope, and a dash of Christmas magic, I believe we can change the world!

Hold on to your hats, I'm talking to three guests today!
There is a great community of Christmas fans that gather together on mymerrychristmas.com. Today I interview three of members of the website community that have used their creative talents to bring Christmas cheer.
I speak to Bill from thevillagecollector.com. He is a collector of Christmas villages and has an amazing website that showcases all of the decorative talents he and others have done over the years. We talk about his website, Christmas villages, and share some great family Christmas memories.
Then, I'm joined on the phone by new author Sandra Macauley who has written a Christmas book called "A Town Called Festive". We talk about her book, writing, and the joys of living in a small town. And of course we talk about Christmas too. https://www.amazon.com/town-Called-Festive-chances-forgiveness/dp/1621835588/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=a+town+called+festive&qid=1605020213&sr=8-1
And finally, Sean from The Christmas Podcasts Podcast at https://christmaspodcasts.com/ stops by and we chat about podcasting, Christmas, Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and we share some of our favorite Christmas memories.
mymerrychristmas.com has gathered together an amazing group of creative peoples of all types and hobbies. Once you've enjoyed hearing these folks come on over to the forums!
Does the thought of planning Christmas stress you out? Are you a master procrastinator like me? Lisa is stopping by the show with some help from her website thestressfreechristmas.com. We chat about that and share some wonderful Christmas memories.
Other highlights from the show - I share some Christmas memories that reminds me the holidays can be difficult for some people but the love of family brings us back together.
Gracie and I try out some pumpkin pie pretzels (yuck!) and chocolate chip cookie brownies (sooooo yummy) and chat about Christmas, our porch swing, and bears.
Or as Dwight from “The Office” might say: Bears. Brownies. Battlestar Galactica.
I also read the fairy tale The Shoemaker and the Elves by the Brothers Grimm.
It’s a month of thanksgiving and gratitude, so come on in and make yourself at home!
Stories for Halloween, Vol 1, Part 3 The Goblins Who Stole a Sexton by Charles Dickens.
Happy Halloween! The final story in our trilogy of terror and weirdness comes from Charles Dickens. Gabriel Grub is a mean old sexton, and we find him digging a grave late on Christmas Eve. What could possibly go wrong?
This has been a fun way to celebrate Halloween during quarantine, and also to read some classic scary Christmas stories. I'll have a new regular episode out on Monday! Stay safe, and eat lots of candy for me tonight.

Welcome to another episode! Today I share a memory from the winner of the Scrooge Ornament, then I have an Interview with children's author Kathryn Burgess. She has a great new story to help kids deal with seeing Santa in a safe way this year. Gracie and I are on the search for more treats and this time we make some cinnamon and sugar chips and talk about Christmas, COVID, and a few laughs. Then I read a Christmas excerpt from Charles Dickens' book, The Pickwick Papers.

Halloween and Christmas meet together in space!
Today's episode is an interview with author and classic science fiction/fantasy author Ray Bradbury's official biographer, Sam Weller. He has just published a new collection of gothic short stories called Dark Black. It's a book that will get you into the Halloween mood! There's also a new audio drama podcast called The Way We Haunt Now. https://hauntnowpod.com/
In the episode we talk about these two short stories - if you'd like to read them you can find them online. They are pretty short and won't take long to read.

G'day mate! (Hmmm... do Australians really say that?)
In this episode, Gracie is back and we make a delicious apple pie. Unfortunately we can't share any of it, but you can make one with this recipe: https://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/dutch-apple-pie/815d821f-058d-4177-93be-e157390e947b Pro-cooking tip: Don't forget to preheat your oven! Being the expert chef that I am, I would never do that. Heh.
Then a listener from Australia shares a Christmas memory, and I try (and fail) to list any interesting facts about the land Down Under. I do read a couple of Australia themed stories: a poem called The Aussie Night Before Christmas and then we take a trip with Australian writer Henry Lawson and his piece published in 1907 - "The Ghosts of Many Christmases". Don't worry it's not a ghost story, but rather it's a reflection on the different locations he had celebrated Christmas in his past.

There's an unwritten rule of podcasting that if your new podcast can make it past the 7th episode, then you're more likely to keep it going for the long haul. Well this is the 7th episode, and the Technical Dragons were running amuck. Fear not! I have defeated them, and I will be back for episode 8. But at least it fits in with the theme of today's podcast: Christmases that don't go exactly as planned...
