YNW Melly Murder Trial Declared a Mistrial: What We Know

In a stunning turn of events, the murder trial of rapper YNW Melly has been declared a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict after two days of deliberations.

Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, was facing two counts of first-degree murder for the October 2018 killings of fellow rappers Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas. If convicted, he could have faced the death penalty.

Prosecutors alleged that Melly and his co-defendant, Cortlen Henry, conspired to make it look like Williams and Thomas were killed during a drive-by shooting following a recording session. However, the defense argued that Melly had no motive to kill his friends and that the murder weapon was never recovered.

The mistrial is a major setback for prosecutors, but they are expected to retry the case with a new jury. In the meantime, Melly remains in jail.
