Building a new assembly table. What are your thoughts on T-track vs dog holes?

I was wondering if and how do you integrate R&D into the price of your products ?
Like Pete when do you make a new sander holder you print several prototype, which might use a lot of filament and the cost adds up. I guess it the same for ou Dan on the CNC for a new zero clearance insert or what ever needs to be prototyped.
