The Tattoo History of Japan Pt.1

On this episode of Beneath the Skin we're starting off our journey in the East with the first instalment of our 3 part series on the history of Japan and Japanese tattooing.

In this first episode we learn about the indigenous Ainu people of Japan, native to Hokkaido, who's unique tattoo tradition has been almost wiped out from contemporary Japanese society.
