Hey Dog Lover!
I’m super excited to share the mic with my daughter Paisley for this episode!
We’re diving into a big question sparking debate in the dog training world: Why are dogs so timid these days?
Paisley takes us back to simpler times, sharing what it was like growing up with dogs and how attitudes toward them have changed over the years.
And, we explore the finger-pointing and blame game happening in dog trainer forums—bad breeders, the "rescue all" mentality, and, of course, YOU, the dog lover.
But here’s the thing: I believe the real issue runs deeper. From polarized trainer advice to owners feeling lost and overwhelmed, we unpack how today’s dog training culture may be creating more confusion than solutions.
🎧 Join us for a candid, heartfelt conversation about what’s really going on—and how we can all do better for our dogs.

Have you ever wondered what your dog is really saying? Dogs are always having tiny conversations—with us, with other dogs, and even with the world around them. But here’s the catch: knowing when to butt in and when to butt out is key. 🐶💬
In this episode, we dive into the art of listening to canine conversations and how understanding these subtle cues can make a BIG impact.
Did you know that while dogs don’t hold grudges, they do remember unfinished business?
Taking the time to BE quiet, observe, and say "How interesting!" can transform your relationship with your dog. It reduces the chances of "toothy disagreements" 🦷 and deepens the bond between you and your dog as an intentional, observant leader. 🌟
So if you have multiple dogs or even if your dog plays with other dogs and you’ve ever wondered, "Is this too much? Should I step in?"—this episode is for you! Grab your favourite beverage ☕, and let’s get into it.

Leadership... It's a dirty word in the dog training industry, but in this episode, I'm breaking down the real meaning of leadership and why it’s absolutely essential for you and your dog. 🐕
I’m sharing my own story of facing pushback—and even bullying—in the dog training community over the word "leadership."
Many trainers have it all wrong, equating leadership with outdated, force-based methods that do more harm than good. ❌

Hey there, dog lover! 🐾🎃
In this episode, we discuss why Halloween can be a truly spooky time for our fearful dogs.
From strange costumes to eerie decorations, this season disrupts your dog's senses, making it harder for them to feel safe and recognize familiar people or environments.
So while some may use this as a "training opportunity", if we have a less than confident dog, this can be a nightmare!
So fearful dog friends this is your permission to give your dog and yourself the night off! (and I will give you some suggestions on how to do that!)
I also give you practical tips, like how to create a safe space for your dog during trick-or-treating and how to gently expose them to decorations without overwhelming them. By the end, you’ll be ready to help your dog through the spooky season with less stress and more confidence! 🎃👻

Hey dog lover,
Have you ever wondered whether your dog’s reactivity is rooted in fear or just aggression? It’s such an important distinction to make because it can really change how you approach helping your dog. In this episode, I’m diving into three key ways to figure it out.
🐾Your Dog’s History: Whether you’ve had your dog since they were a pup or brought them into your life as a rescue, their background holds important clues.
🐾The Context of Their Triggers: Understanding the situations that set your dog off is crucial.
🐾Body Language and Energy: Today we will break down what to look for in their body language and then go one step further to really help you know if your dog's reactivity is rooted in fear.
I hope this will help you have a clearer understanding of what’s really going on with your dog’s behaviour, and you’ll feel more confident in helping them through it.

Hey there fellow dog lover!
This week I am sharing the story of Levi, one of the most fearful dogs I have had the pleasure of learning from. And this week I had to take him to the vet and I was so shocked by his behaviour I wanted to share it today!
Upon reflection, I figured this out:
The number one thing I did over the years of living with Levi that made the most difference is what I am talking about today on the podcast!
Please share your wins with your dog. I would love to hear from you!
Here's how you can stay connected with me:
#1 Be my Pen Pal!
Go to Beyond Obedience.ca
Wait on the page until the pop-up menu comes up
Leave your name and email and that's it!

See you next week!
Hey there my fellow dog lover!
If there is one thing I can say about my life with dogs is that I have learned so much from living with and working with large groups of dogs.
I have had the opportunity to see:
Familial Packs
Temporary Packs
Working Packs
And of course, living with my House Pack
And I can say that they are wildly different.
So that is why when I hear tragic stories of dogs getting hurt (or worse) from intentional dog lovers when they are fostering dogs or pet-sitting dogs in their homes, I knew I wanted to share some of my insight and the things I have learned over the years.
So buckle up, this one got away from me, but there are some good takeaways in this episode.
Also, be sure to sign up to be Pen Pals with me so that you can be the first to know when we have our new Fearful Dog course out and the Multi-dog Household Masterclass. Coming soon!
How do you do that?

Hey there dog lover!
I am so glad you are here and this is a "controversial" dog training topic.
But I know this one thing can change your dog training journey for the better so it must be said.
Today on the podcast I am talking about the power of no and how if you have been told you MUST use positive only or purely positive training, you my friend have been "marketed "to. (And there really is on such thing😉)
So it's not about not using the word no, but rather HOW you use the word no and I am sharing exactly how to do it so that you can finally get some results.
Don't stay stuck in your training. Give your dog the feedback to help them understand and feel safe in Humansville.
You can say no!
Next Steps:
Let's be Pen Pals!
And that's it! Now we are Pen Pals and I am sharing the pics I took during this episode!

Hey there fellow dog lover!
So I was in Pet Valu the other week when an already nervous/anxious dog working on "socialization" reacted (negatively) to a little puppy who came into the store.
The chaos and barking caught my attention and before I could get around the isle to see what was going on, both owners (and the staff at Pet Valu) were all saying "It's okay, you're okay!"
The puppy owner was petting her pup and saying it.
The anxious dog owner was saying it.
The employee at the cash register was saying it.
And as I watched, I thought... Nothing about this is okay.
This incident inspired this week's episode on the podcast. :-)
Learn why I do not like the phrase "It's Okay!"
and what you should say instead.
Also, in this episode,
I discuss when I would turn my back on a threat, and when I wouldn't.
There is lots of great tactical stuff in this episode~
Let me know what you think!
Talk to you next week!
Cheers
Tracy

Hey there dog lover!
Do you want to learn something about your relationship with your dog?? (of course, you do! 😉)
Today, you are getting a sneak peek at one of the first lessons in my Relationship Remedy Online Program!
This is one of my favourite exercises that all of my students do.
It's called BE with.
I first learned about this when my dad bought me a baby horse. I was thrown into the deep end of trying to figure out horse psychology ( prey) instead of dog psychology (predator).
So that began an incredible journey of learning and today I am sharing that with you!
Your dog is always communicating with you... and this exercise will help you stop and take a moment to listen. :-)
I hope you enjoy this mediative exercise in awareness.

Hey there fellow dog lover!
Dog reactivity and off-leash dogs. 🐕
It's a hot topic for sure. 🔥
It can be said that dog reactivity is born from bad experiences when your dog is on a leash.
But today I am talking about how I turned a potentially bad situation into a dog-bonding experience.
I am sharing exactly what I did, why I did it and sharing 3 tips on how to help your dogs when off-leash dogs approach you while you are walking your dog.
Now disclaimer time:
There are many variables when it comes to off-leash encounters with other dogs. Today's story worked because these dogs weren't aggressive and the owners were great people. That won't always be the case therefore, always consult a professional dog trainer to help you if you are struggling with dog reactivity and off-leash dog encounters

Hey there dog lover!
We are still talking about barking! It's a hot topic for sure.
This week's question comes from my friend Susanne, who travels with her 8-month-old dog and goes wild whenever anyone approaches the car.
Let's find out why, and what to do about it.
Hey dog lover!
Well, barking is a hot topic! Am I right?
So let's continue the fun with this week's episode on Attention Barking!
Attention barking is when your dog is barking at you.
They are demanding you to play, feed or pay attention to them in some way.
Attention barking can be frustrating and may have you shouting! BE QUIET! NO BARKING! more than you would like to admit. And if that is you my dog-loving friend... This is the episode for you!
So let's review the 3 truths about attention barking and what you can do about it.
Oh! and...
special shout out to Shar who commented on Spotify! Thank you for the inspiration for this episode!

Hey there dog lover!
Do you have a dog that barks at everything going on outside? Barking at the door, the windows, the fence line? Today on the podcast I am talking about barking. But not just any barking. Alert barking. And I am sharing this one surprising tip I learned after watching my daycare dogs. Dogs really are the best teachers when it comes to understanding our dog's behaviours. So if you are ready to try something a little more "dog-like" Let's get to it!
Are you a dedicated dog mom, struggling with a dog behaviour, that just isn't getting any better? In this episode, I will give you an unusual exercise to help reframe the problem, so you can find a solution. If we are stuck in a cycle of fixing the problem we can unintentionally cause a crack in the foundation of our bond with our dog. This trick works wonders! Try it out, and let me know how it goes!

This week we are talking about treats! Treats can often be a crutch in your relationship with your dog. Do you feel like giant Pez dispensers when it comes to using treats to help train or fix their dog's behaviour issues? So, are treats bad for your bond with your dog? Today I am going to answer that question and give some helpful tips on how to use treats to not only help your dog training but also enhance the bond you have with your dog. Can your dog have the "cake and eat it too?" Let's find out!
