Our special guest today is Rosalind Chao. You all know her as Dr Kim, routinely helping Ryan and Marissa out of trouble, but we go way BEYOND THE OC in our conversation with Rosalind. She has 140 professional acting credits that began in 1970. From MASH, Star Trek, The Joy Luck Club and What Dreams May Come (two of my favorites) to the recent Mulan, Sweet Tooth and 3 Body Problem, Rosalind has continued to entertain us with her fearless portrayals of, too many to mention, memorable characters showcasing her versatility and lasting impact in the entertainment industry. An Orange County native like ourselves, we welcomed Rosalind! We also discuss the generally very strong dislike for the Dean Hess story line in The Shape of Things To Come!

The episode kicks off with Sandy visiting Ryan in juvie again—déjà vu from the pilot. The arson charges have been dropped but Ryan is stayin due to that whole “stole a car” thing. Cranky, grounded Seth tries to sneak off to visit him, dragging Kirsten along since she can't endure The Real Newpsies Of Newport gals planning Casino Night anymore. In juvie, Ryan defends Kirsten from a “flirty” inmate so back home, Sandy finds Ryan and Seth playing video games, sparking a "what are we gonna do with this kid?" moment with kirsten. Julie runs her mouth at a coffee shop, with Sandy in earshot, leading to a delightful verbal whipping and learning from Jimmy that Kirsten is footing the bills! Ryan’s mom, Dawn, makes a dramatic entrance, claiming she's cleaned up, but Ryan is skeptical. The Vegas Night is a whirlwind: Dawn turns into a spectacle as a drunk blackjack whiz, Julie won’t shut up about the $100K, Marissa pines for Luke and Ryan and Stanley, Sid or Seth becomes Summer’s lucky charm at the craps table. Dawn decides to leave Ryan with the Cohens, admitting Kirsten is the better mom. Ryan, with a mix of relief and sadness, watches his mom leave and embraces his new life with the Cohens.
Our guest today needs no introduction! The one and only Tate Donovan!

Melinda a CG are joined by super fan and actor Alessandra Fabiani for an in-depth, fun discussion about ep 2.16, The Blaze Of Glory. In this ep, Ryan and Seth channel Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" with their meta musings on Season 1 versus Season 2 of The O.C. Seth’s love for meddling lights up like a blaze, pushing Ryan to rekindle flames with Marissa at the Spring Pep Rally. Meanwhile, Sandy's got his own "Livin' on a Prayer" moment, teaching Kirsten golf while reminiscing about his rock star magazine hero, The Rocketeer. Antics escalate with Seth getting teary-eyed over Captain Oats, (and then understandably punched by Ryan), and jealous Alex tossing beer cans like confetti. As the bonfire burns, Alex and Marissa's love goes down in flames, leaving Seth's matchmaking streak as fiery as ever. And With Sandy's snarky quips about Julie's porno past, the episode hits all the right notes, leaving everyone "Wanted Dead or Alive" by the end.

Ahoy, mateys! Picture this: young Ryan Atwood, stuck in the posh port of Newport Beach, ready to swap schoolbooks for a sailor's life, thanks to that scallywag Dean Hess branding him a brute. Meanwhile, Kirsten’s whipping up a breakfast so fancy it’d make Blackbeard blush, but the lads abandon it faster than a pirate fleeing a bath. Summer, crafty as a sea fox, plots against Taylor and Hess, turning their secret tryst into a shipwreck. Enter Captain Sandy, with a plan sharper than a parrot's beak, forcing Hess to walk the academic plank and saving Ryan’s future. Just as Ryan's about to hoist anchor, he realizes his true treasure isn’t gold or jewels but Marissa. So, he stays anchored in Newport, proving even pirates can find love on dry land.

It's #43 in our countdown with Special guest OC writer Cory Martin! This episode is aptly entitled The Telenovela. Ryan and Marissa awkwardly try to be "just friends" post-breakup, but things get spicy when Theresa shows up with a secret engagement ring and a whole lot of baggage. Seth is done with Summer's undercover lover act and stages an over-the-top declaration, turning their love life into a public spectacle worthy of Telemundo. Julie and Luke’s fling thing continues under the radar, but Julie’s getting jumpy juggling this and clueless Caleb, who mistakes booty calls for romantic gestures.

Meanwhile, Seth, Summer, and Zach hit the road to San Diego, not just for comic book pitches but for Seth's plan on winning back Summer's heart.
