British Murders with Stuart Blues
In the tenth and final episode of British Murders Season 6, I tell the story of Ian O'Callaghan.
On January 6, 1994, Ian O'Callaghan attacked, sexually assaulted, murdered and mutilated 66-year-old widow and grandma Shirley Leach at Bury Interchange.
In September 2001, Ian exposed himself to an 11-year-old girl before raping her a few days later.
He remained a free man until February 2006, when he was arrested for drink-driving. His DNA was taken and matched a blood sample from the crime scene in 1994.
He was handed a life sentence in 2006 with a minimum term of 28 years for the murder of Shirley Leach, with a 16-year concurrent sentence handed to him in 2016 for the rape of the 11-year-old after she came forward and informed the police of what had happened.
