It's always great to have Avi over and just talk. We never know where the conversation is gonna go and those are my favorite chats. I don't like scripted questions, I believe they make for phony interviews.
Now-a-days everyone has a podcast, so I decided to back off on mine. My goal is to only share interesting conversations with people, the kind of conversations I'd like to listen to.. not just a talk to talk.
We talked about his dog ORKAN, training, competing and his new endeavor in dog training equipment including the AC STICK. I think you'll like this chat, Avi is a favorite guest because I think our conversations are raw and real. I'm providing links to Avi's socials below as well as the AC STICK he mentions...

There are so many things Oscar and I cover in this podcast that your head will spin. From the top level competitive training to dangerous and deadly dogs.
Oscar Mora is back and we have a lot to talk about. Oscar and I have been training together and filming together for a new project that will be out in the next couple of months. Besides that Oscar has been a huge help with my new puppy Schmuley and for that I am very grateful.
Oscar is not only a GREAT dog trainer, but a man of his word, a man of high character and a good friend.... even though I'm old enough to be his dad! LOL!
We talk about Malinois, protection dogs, sport dogs, Corsos and just about every other dog - and the conversation could go on forever! I respect Oscar's training approach as well as his character as a decent man... a family man, a competitor and a friend.

Mission K9 Rescue is a great organization that helps military dogs. These dogs need special help to be transported back to the USA and get reunited with their handlers. When it comes time to transporting these dogs Mission K9 steps in. They also help handlers get reunited with their canines and help get Contract Working Dogs back to the USA and adopted. It's a great mission they are doing and I really enjoyed this chat with Bob in this podcast.

#militarydogs #policedog #workingdogBelgian Malinois are an amazing breed and if you want to learn as much as you can about them, check out this podcast with Peter and Connie Scherk. Peter is a 3X World Champion, FCI / FMBB Champion and his wife Connie also a fierce competitor. But beyond that, they are truly dog LOVERS as you'll see in this podcast. They are among the very top authorities when it comes to the Belgian Malinois.
In this podcast we focus a lot on malinois puppies, breeding, selecting and training them for protection sports such as IGP / IPO / Schutzhund. This is a great chat with so much information about malinois puppies, that anyone who either has a malinois or is interested in getting one, should listen. Truly one of my favorite podcasts on the topic.
We talk about training the puppies in the right steps to be solid sport protection dogs, the how's and why's.... We talk about how they select world champion dogs and their passion for the sport and breed.

I first met Manny around 2012 when he was working at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. He asked me to come help him with behavioral programs and some troubled dogs. I obliged and we became friends and over the years he spent several opportunities training with me.
Manny is a genuine human being who loves dogs and his passion shows through in his work. He has come a long way from those days, and now runs his own training facility in Palm Springs as well as so much more. I'm really proud of the person he is and has become. We share some great stories in this chat that will be inspirational to anyone who wants to become a dog trainer and anyone who loves dogs.

Sonja Nordstrom was the FBI's first female canine officer in the Los Angels Division, and has some amazing stories to tell. From Bank robberies to human remains detection on some very incredible cases.
This episode dives deep into the hows and why's of scent / odor and dogs as well as the stories of a woman who made a strong mark on the FBI and will inspire many women to do awesome work.
Sonja works with Steve Stoops and when Steve told me about her work and her background, I just knew this would be a good podcast. So much great stuff relating to dogs and how dogs help solve crime in this podcast... you're gonna LOVE it!

The German Shepherd is a noble, intelligent and intelligent dog. Sadly they have been maligned on different occasions, namely during thee Second World War when Nazi forces used them to commit harmful and sometimes deadly acts on Jews in Concentration Camps. How does this apply to this video? READ ON!
The SV (Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde) is an organization that is designed to advocate for and protect the breed. The SV is a fantastic organization that has done so much for the breed. However, recently they have invited a politician who is at the center of some controversy to be a guest at their big show, the Bundessiegerzuchtschau. Hubert Aiwanger is currently the Deputy Minister President of Bavaria and the Bavarian Minister of Economic affairs, Regional Development and Energy. He is both the faction leader of the Federal Association of Free Voters as well as the Bavarian State Association of Free and Independent Voters. In the last few weeks some controversy surfaced linking him to antisemitic materials that he possessed as a young man.
Since this show is purely about the benefit of the dog, I will explain in the podcast that any association that the German Shepherd has to someone possibly linked to extremism can cause a backlash onto the dog. For that reason I ask you to respectfully contact the SV at the email below and ask them to kindly remove Hubert Aiwanger from their event this weekend September 7-10th. I ask you to do this kindly, respectfully, but with intent. This is important for anyone who loves the German Shepherd!

Thank you to everyone who cares enough to take the time to take action and speak on behalf of the dogs! Our dogs should never be associated to something that they had no control over and would slight them. They should be loved and protected!

Kyle called me one day and said, "How come you never have anyone interview you?" And then immediately said, "I want to interview you on YOUR show!" Now, there aren't many people that I would just say yes to, but I've known Kyle for a long time and respect his passion for dogs - so what could go wrong? LOL. I agreed and we set a time to meet at the park where I do a lot of my training.
This chat was very deep and the questions were well thought out and insightful. So, if you want to learn a little more about me - take a listen to this podcast! Kyle has a great demeanor for interviewing because he's really interested, and that is something I pride myself on also. This wasn't just a "ask 10 questions and move on. Kyle's questions were very thought out. and he really wanted to probe these topics. He didn't prepare me, so this is just off the cuff, which I like best! I hate prepared interviews.
If you haven't seen the podcast I did with Kyle earlier this year, here's a link: https://youtu.be/JA4lX97Zwcw?si=p7qKqWqzrFvzdovU
*** IT IS THE MOST POPULAR PODCAST I HAVE DONE TO DATE! That is a testament to our mutual. respect and passion for the dogs we work with and the methods we use.
I want to thank Kyle for taking the time to do this, it really was a selfless act.. like he said, "I think people want to know the real Robert Cabral!" well, to all of you who want to know more about the real me, here you go. Enjoy!
Let me know in the comments what you think!

This podcast will probably blow up the internet and ruffle many feathers. I had no idea where this conversation would go, in fact I wasn't even sure if we were gonna do a podcast. Larry was in town getting ready for a seminar, so I took him to a favorite beach spot to have a beer and some fish tacos. Then we thought, what the heck, let's talk! Our conversations are always like minded, entertaining and meaningful. I'm blessed to count this guy as a very close friend, comrade, fellow dog trainer and more! We often laugh at the same stuff, get frustrated at the same issues and always value each other. I can honestly say I feel like I've known him for so long, even though it's only bee a few years. We connected through a mutual respect in dog training and then found out we grew up a few miles from one another in New Jersey. We both moved to the south at one point and we both have the same humor. We also share a true respect and passion for dogs.
This chat delves into so many topics, O'd be remiss to try and list them all here, but some are: ecollar bans, purely positive training, rescue dogs, dog trainer certification, ethics in training, haters and SOOOO much more.
NO matter what you're looking for, you will either LOVE or HATE this podcast, I hope you'll make it all the way through, because it takes a sudden turn right around the 1 HOUR mark!

PItbulls are one of the most controversial breed of dog. They polarize people: some LOVE them - some HATE them! I thought it would be a great idea to talk to someone who would seem somewhat neutral and get some more info on the breed.
Kenny Licklider has trained so many dogs to the highest level including those for the US Military. So, the question is: "Can pitbulls be used for military k9 work?" The surprising answer is in this video.
Pitbulls can be really amazing dogs and when you hear the stories from Ken, you will agree. It takes a special person to own them, train them and live with them, but when you find that match, you will be astounded!

AKC Obedience is a dog training skill like few others. For the most part it is women dominating the sport and everyone knows everyone. I have competed in AKC obedience all the way from Novice to Utility. The person that first introduced me to the sport many years ago was Flo Walberg. We have stayed friends over the years and I thought it would be great to get her on the show and talk about dog training and more.
Flo has competed at the highest levels and WON at those levels. She has trained, competed and titled Border Collies as well as Rottweilers over the years. To watch Flo compete is awesome. She is composed, professional and a TOP COMPETITOR. There are only a few people I like to watch doing AKC Obedience and Flo is one of them.
In this chat we talk about the mindset, the training, the dogs and her beginnings in the sport. No matter what style of dog training you're doing, you'll gain something from this podcast with the one and only Flo Walberg!
I have interviewed many champions and world champions in protection dog sports. For this podcast I sat down with Mia Skogster of Finland who is a 2x World IGP Champion in the FMBB. We talked about her passion for dogs, dog training, completion and breeding. What it takes to be a champion and how much love and dedication it takes to train a world champion dog.
IGP is a very tough sport and getting into the mind of a trainer like Mia will shed some insight to anyone who is interested in learning more about dogs, dog training and dog sports. We also talk about the important roles that working dog sports play for the world as a whole and I think this is a very interesting topic.

#dogtraining #dogtrainer #ipoThis discussion is sure to ruffle some feathers as Michael, Bart and I discuss everything that is going on in dog training, but everyone is afraid to talk about. This includes the radical shift in dog training language and methodologies and how that will affect dogs. The bans on training tools that are being attempted here in the USA and the ones that have taken place in many European countries and what that means for the future of dog training. We discuss the use of the ecollar and the stigma that surrounds it as well.
As we see people trying to ban tools and dog sports, we should understand that this will inevitably mean an end to dogs as we know them and owning dogs as pets. A very sad state of events for anyone who loves dogs.
I've known Bart for over 12 years and we've shared some great conversations about dog training and technology over the years. I hope you'll enjoy this chat. It's a no holds barred, gloves off conversation about our passion for dog training. T

Dog Sports such as IGP / Schutzhund / IPO, Ring Sports and others are under attack. Whether you are interested in dog sports or not, this should concern you. These attacks come from people who know little about dogs and dog training.
In this interview I speak to 2X World FMBB IGP Champion Florian Knabl and his wife Patricia Pehrsson about K9 and Sports, an organization that is uniting dog sports enthusiasts to help fight for the future of all dog sports.

Police dog stories always interest me, and hone you have access to a guy like Steve "Zane" Stoops there are no shortage. I often refer to Steve as my brother from another mother. He has more experience when it comes to police and military dogs than just about anyone out there.

There are dogs and then there are police and military dogs. The most elite of all dogs are those that serve in the Special Operations Divisions of the US Military. These are the dogs we're discussing in this podcast. Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds and more. Ken Lichlider is known for training these dogs as well as deploying more working dogs during some recent US military operations than the US Military.
Ken is the owner, operator and chief training instructor at Von Liche Kennels. You may recognize him from his show on Nat Geo Wild "Alpha Dogs." This conversation opens a lot of conversations that have NEVER been discussed. The real people who trained and provided these dogs, not the imposters you see on the internet and social media.

#militarydogs #belgianmalinois #workingdogThe Belgian Malinois in John Wick Part 3 Parabellum were among some of the most awesome dogs I've ever seen in a movie. The training, the obedience and the bite work was amazing. So where did these dogs come from? I found out in this conversation with Kenny Licklider of Vohne Liche Kennels. We sat down to a few chats and this one gives you an idea. We also discussed the Maliherd (Belgian Malinois x German Shepherd that he sold to the movie DOG with Channing Tatum.
This podcast has three parts. 1. the John Wick Parabellum Belgian Malinois 2. the dog(s) from the movie Dog with Channing Tatum 3. some behind the scenes stuff from Ken's TV series Alpha Dogs!
Ken is known best for his work with the US Military war dogs, providing dogs for the most elite US forces. We touch on some of that in this chat as well, but much more of that to come in the Interview Podcast.
There's a lot to love in this podcast including the behind the scenes stuff about these dogs, where they came from, who they were, what he thought of the training and Kenny's thoughts on Halle Berry as a dog handler.
We also touch on Ken's show that ran on Nat Geo Wild "ALPHA DOGS." This show featured the work of Vohne Liche Kennels with police and military units and was a huge hit.

California Assembly Bill AB 742 would try to eradicate the use of police dogs, and that is a big problem for safety in our cities.
Everyone can agree that crime is out of control in many cities and states - including here in California. I got the unique opportunity to interview California Senator Kelly Seyarto who has been quite vocal in his support of police and his opposition of this bill. Our chat will help you better understand how the laws are proposed and ultimately passed.
Even if you're not in California, this is a great watch because these radical policies may come to your city one day.

This discussion with Jamie Penrith goes deep into the topic of using aversive tools in order to save not only dogs' lives, but also the lives of other animals such as sheep, cattle and more. Are these tools really aversive? Is aversive training or training that causes discomfort to a dog to accomplish something important cruel? We dive deep into this conversations, take on science based lies and mis-information and so much more. The use of e-collars as a viable methodology of training is currently under great attack by a very small but vocal group - the truth of using electronic training collars is one f many key points in this discussion.

Mike Reaver of Adlerhorst K9 has been involved in police dogs for most of his life. The son of Dave Reaver, founder of Adlerhorst K9 and the father of "police dogs." Mike and I finally got a chance to sit down and talk about police dogs, buying, training and selling them and most importantly the lives they save. Adlerhorst has placed thousands of police dogs, military k9 and personal protection dogs over the last 50+ years.
We discuss the critical topic of CA Assembly Bill AB 742 - the bill that aims at eliminating police dogs as we know them. This is dangerous for police officers and deadly for citizens that are protected by these dogs every single day. This chat is one of the longest podcasts I've done and I think you'll agree that it could have gone on for a lot longer.

California Assembly Bill CA AB740 is being presented by California Assemblyman Corey Jackson. This bill aims at eliminating the use of police canines (k9s) in many situations including apprehending potentially dangerous suspects. He claims the bill will help right the wrongs of the past - a "carryover from a dark past." He uses inciteful language such as: "The use of police canines has inflicted brutal violence and lifelong trauma on Black Americans and communities of color," and more.
This type of language will create knee-jerk reactions among policymakers and place many people, especially those in under-served communities in great danger. We've seen the problems things like defunding the police does to communities and I hope this video will open people's eyes to the true benefit of police canines.
Michael Goosby is a decorated LAPD police officer, he served as chief K9 trainer for the LAPD and has been a police officer for over 30 years! I can't imagine a person better qualified to talk on this topic than him. This chat will give you great insight from a man of the highest character, a police k9 expert, and a man of color who cares about people.
I hope that Assemblyman Jackson will watch this video and rethink his position or at least sit down with someone like Michael to educate himself on this topic. I'm assuming he didn't before proposing / writing this bill.
Please contact Assemblyman Jackson here to voice your concern:

Talking about some of the strongest and toughest dogs in the world, these dogs are man stoppers. Dogs that are bred tough, train tough and help police and military do their jobs. Who trains these dogs? What does it take to be one of these elite dogs? I s it down for another great conversation with Steve "Zane" Stoops and talk about it. From the top personal protection dogs to the toughest most elite military dogs, Stoops' experience is unmatched.
We talk about how sport training like Schutzhund / IPO / IGP / Ring Sport / KNPV and more affect how these dogs are raised and turn out. The sociability factor in these dogs and the safety vs. liability of sport dogs in general.

What is a service dog and why are there so many people faking it? What can be done about it? There's nothing good about fake service dogs and I get to the bottom of it in this podcast with two experts from IACP.

Nino and I met at the IACP Conference in Sept 2022. We had several really great conversations and I thought sharing these with you would open your eyes about the similarities that dog trainers share and the passion that drives us.
So much of what you see on the Social media is trainers critiquing each other and tearing other trainers down. Nothing could be further from the truth when you get two passionate, professional dog trainers / dog lovers together. This conversation is a short glimpse into the chats we shared in Florida and I think it will be a breath of fresh air to all the crap you are so used to seeing online.
In this chat we talk about so many important topics, but the theme that runs throughout is "where is dog training and where is it heading?" We talk about the mindset, the personalities of dogs as well as dog trainers and the use of rewards and aversive in training. What has been the fallout thought the countries that ban the use of balanced training tools is also a huge topic we address about 1/2 way though the video.
Thanks Nino for a great chat, I look forward to the next one.

If you want to know about German Shepherds, you want to talk to an expert. In Germany this is called a Körmeister. This person is an authority on breeding. Johannes Grewe is a Körmeister and Avi and I ask some tough questions on the topic of showline and working line German Shepherds.
The questions of what makes for a good German Shepherd and what dogs should we be breeding is always at the top of everyone's list. Talking with Johannes is talking to one of the foremost experts on the breed. Johannes has bred, trained, judged and lived with German Shepherds for most of his life.
Avi and I get down to the serious issues. It's a long podcast but we cover a lot of topics including the evolution of the angulated German Shepherd, the sports of IPO, IGP, Schutzhund... and so much more.

Shannon Krieger is an American Hero. From his work in the US Military SOCOMM to his current passion, working with HSI catching child predators he never ceases to amaze me.
If you missed Episode 99 talking about Shannon's work starting the CAD (combat assault dog) program, be sure to watch it.
In this episode we talk about where Shannon's work has taken him and that is investigating child predators online. The future of his work is something we hint at in this interview. We talk about the "Digi Dogs" concept and I think that is something that is really exciting.

In this episode I take a look back at the first 99 podcasts I've done, the people I've talked to, met and learned from. My new friends, the people that changed the way I see things and the hard conversations that I've had... often times with myself.
I think you'll enjoy this short retrospect whether you've listened to all of my podcasts or none. Enjoy and here's to the next 100!
Shannon Krieger has done it all. He is the guy that legends are made of and movies are about. He's fought in war, been part of the upper echelon of the US Military. He was one of the 3 people who started the use of assault dogs in the military. He survived a helicopter crash and there's more.
My chat with Shannon was epic. The stories he shares are breathtaking, funny, motivational and they will make you feel like you were actually there with him. Whether missions in the Middle East during the most turbulent times or training dogs to do amazing things here in the US, you won't find more amazing stories or a better conversation.
Thanks to Zane Stoops for introducing us.

Peter Scherk is an international renown IPO / IGP / Schutzhund competitor, trainer and WORLD CHAMPION 3 X, an unheard of feat.
In this podcast I sit down with Peter & Connie Scherk and talk about their training, competitions, their outlook and training philosophy and how they have become so successful with the Belgian Malinois.
This is one of the best podcasts for anyone who is interested in learning about IGP, training malinois, competing and understanding what it takes to be a wold champion.
From their small, humble yet incredibly successful Team Heuwinkl, we delve into his training philosophy which he teaches in his new Book Successful Together / Gemeinsam Erfolgreich, a book I highly recommend.

I think you will love this interview.
Sorry the audio is a little spotty in places, but the value of the content is immense! This is what happens when you deal with international conversations!
The Belgian Malinois is becoming every more popular and with that popularity comes problems. People are breeding malinois in their backyards and selling them quick and cheap. This will be a disaster for people and for the breed. I decided to sit down with a very knowledgeable breeder and good friend of mine Tasha Mesina, who has been breeding Malinois for may years. With countless successful litters, sport dogs as well as herding and show dogs, Tasha loves and appreciates the breed and knows her stuff.
This podcast will enlighten you to this wonderful breed, it will educate you on the basic genetics of the breed and hopefully help you make a good decision if you're looking to get a Malinois.

Steve is undeniably one of the very best trainers of military and police k9s in the world. In this episode, we discuss some of his "war stories." Dog's he's handled, owned and trained. Funny stories and some sad.
Steve's amazing talent in training these high caliber dogs is only surpassed by his true love of dogs. I think that comes through in this podcast.
There are some amazing studies relating to supplementing fish oil, aka Omegas, to our dogs. I sat down with Dr Kristina Jackson from Omega Quant to discuss some of the health benefits for our dogs.
Omega Quant has an Omega level test that you can bring to your vet, with your dog, and within 10 days you'll get a detailed readout of your dog's levels. I suggest doing this before adding or removing fish oils to / from your dog's diet.
Visit Omega Quant by clicking here:

Use the code CABRAL10 and save 10% off of your test (and you'll be supporting the show).
Ever since I heard the news about a Belgian Malinois being at the scene when the US Navy SEALS got Osama Bin Laden, I wanted to talk to Will. I wanted to meet Cairo too, but that wouldn't be possible. BUT, today I got my wish, to talk to Will Chesney and hear first hand what it was like to be at the scene of one of the most famous missions of all times.
Will and I talk about Cairo, how they met, training, living with him and that fateful night. We share the story of when Cairo was shot and Will thought he would lose him. As well as the heroic life that Cairo led until his last day.
I highly recommend you read Will's book, NO ORDINARY DOG!
Steve is the go to guy when government agencies look for badass dogs and how to train them. He has been working dogs in this capacity for 30+years. Although he won't (or can't) confess to the agencies he works for, you'll see from this conversation that his work includes some of the top agencies in the US government.
His knowledge and skillset in teaching assault and detection dogs is unequalled and this chat is an amazing insight into a realm that you cannot break.
Steve is like a brother to me and our chats are heartfelt, sincere, funny and heart wrenching. This is the first in a series of podcasts that will address the amazing work of our military heroes, both human and canine.

Recently I got the opportunity to sit down with Vadim Plotsker, the current president of the USCA, United Schutzhund Clubs of America. Like why is the fight between kennel clubs and orgs like USCA, WUSV, FCI, etc so important for the German Shepherd? What has USCA done to improve the breed? What is the future of USCA, Schutzhund, working dog sports and more?
