This week, we review another book that was overlooked in its time. A decade after its author John Kennedy Toole committed suicide, A Confederacy of Dunces was published and won the Pulitzer in 1981. However, not all of us were as impressed by this bold satire. Is print the wrong medium for this work? Has our toxic political climate turned us off of a character like Ignatius J. Reilly? Or is this novel just too dated? We discuss these questions and more in this episode.
This is the first novel in our Postmodern Novels of the South series. Want to talk about A Confederacy of Dunces? Join our book club discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CanonicalPod where you can also find show notes, credits and extended discussions for every episode.
