Review: Kirinyaga by Mike Resnick

27 min • 4 februari 2022
Kirinyaga by Mike Resnick is an odd little book.  It's about post-colonial Africa and the future of the Kikuyu, an ethnic group native to Kenya-- but it's written by a white man from the Midwest.  The stories were published separately, but this book was sold as a linked collection.  And is this really about utopias?   This week we review one of the most awarded science fiction collections ever (if you don't believe this, Resnick will set you straight) and try to figure out if it's worth our time and yours. For this series we will read and discuss Toni Morrison's Paradise Jan 14-28, Mike Resnick's Kirinyaga Feb 4-18, and Ursula Le Guin's The Dispossessed Feb 25 - Mar 11.
