Brian, Max, and Richard are back for Episode 513 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Our good buddy Max is back once again, as Blake is out of town on important string business, and he has a new job which causes some speculation before the guys chat about the gear they have been gassing over. Richard attempts to describe a form of small British boat and Brian is most confused by both Richard and Artificial Intelligence.

David Gilmour is going on tour and the British King of Fuzz tries to get tickets - and this leads to a discussion about ticket prices, free pedals, and naughty romps. Richard has been sent a pedal as a gift from an old friend and tells us all about it and he also has a theory about the re-release of a certain pedal. He is of course wrong.

Max and Brian discuss the classic Danelectro pedals and reflect on the used market for them and Richard has fallen in love with the new Thorpy FX WOPR purely for aesthetic reasons. Do you use an attenuator with your amplifier? The guys discuss the pros and cons of a few different models. Richard grills Max for dirt on Brian.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by Scott from Stringjoy for Episode 512 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Brian is ready to welcome you all to the Tone Chasing show and this week the guys are joined by Scott from Stringjoy. Richard makes some 1980's related costume confessions and he may have found "his look". Brian has demands and Richard has requests. Scott knows all of Blake's deep dark secrets and is also annoyingly young and intelligent. 

Have you ever owned a guitar with removable pickups? Richard comes up with possibly the most stupid idea he has ever had and then doubles down with more foolishness. This leads into a discussion about the new Gun Street Wiring solder free switchgear. Richard gets nostalgic about car radios. Brian makes outrageous claims about owning a plastic slide and Richard is suspicious.

It would be madness not to ask Scott some guitar string related questions, but this is the Chasing Tone podcast and there are more pressing matters. That said, we do get some good insight into tips for re-stringing guitars, taking care of your guitars, and not breaking strings like an oaf. Brian tells Scott about the story of Bryan Burke and Richard opens up a conversation about guitar manufacturing locations. We then get more sensible with the Scott questions and there are some awesome string related nuggets of wisdom.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 511 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Brian makes a case for playing with his toys and not throwing them out of his sandbox - and gives us a sneaky listen into a new product he is working on. In completely unrelated news, our good buddy Jordan over at Poison Noises has made a new Reverb and Delay pedal and Richard loves the finish he picked for it. This leads Brian to reminisce wistfully.

Richard asks an important question about knob labeling and the guys debate it momentarily before Richard makes an awkward confession. He also tells us about how sometimes testing pedals can be a bit too enjoyable. Synergy have made a new module, the DRECT which is based on "that" high end Californian sound and the guys then talk about some of their favorite amps and Brian gets instant GAS. 

There was an early leak of a pedal and the guys skirt around it rapidly before reflecting on the sad news that Dickie Betts from the Allman brothers had passed away. There was a recent article about how male dominated the guitar world was and the guys dig in to it and on the way Richard discovered a new artist to get into. And it isn't that "Snake Guy"

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 510 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Brian is in a special new place...or not...and apologies are made for his button pressing as a world record is set and we talk about the world's crankiest Englishman. Said Englishman has questions about IEMs and he asks for a reasoned debate and he gets some, and some unreasoned debate. 

Someone threw terrible boomer based accusations and Richard has familial drum machine excitement. Brian and Richard found a tweet relating to Chumbawumba and it made them both giggle muchly and a hero of the week is elected. Do you know what the greatest guitar pedal (yet to be released) is? Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 509 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

Martinsville Lulu meets Portland Grunge and it is all the fault of solar activity as Brian experiences totality and Richard experiences Indianapolis live. The guys discuss their various eclipse experiences and there is some general foolishness all round. Oh boy, it's a wild episode I warn you now.

Brian shows off his cool guitar slide which makes for some unique and riveting audio material and Richard had his head turned by some LED infused guitar picks and a "herb" grinder shaped like a tone pot. He also finds a new style of headstock tuner. Meanwhile our good friends over at Keeley FX have had some pedal name change drama and we speculate upon why despite being bereft of informed or intelligent opinions.

Kiss have sold their back catalogue and the guys discuss the implications of the impending holographic mega tours that may now become a reality. Richard has some news about his potential band which is not called Think Ployd. He has observations and Brian gives some great advice to anyone who's thinking of joining a band...and some barely average advice too. Blake spreads some GAS.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 508 of the Chasing Tone Podcast

It's podcast day, and Brian has avoided being sucked into a funnel cloud, so we start the episode of with an extra dose of frivolity and nonsensical mutterings. There is camping talk and weather talk and Richard campaigns for moderate weather conditions. Wampler Pedals made a social media post involving Brian's take on the infamous Rockman and the guys chat about how it was created.

There were some great April fool's gags this year and the guys talk about some of their favorites and Blake tells us all about the one he was involved in for Gun Street Wiring. Richard makes an apology. There was a question submitted to the guys about buffers and the guys go deep into the weeds with it, the importance of impedance, and other general nerd topics. Brian redefines important technical terms.

Richard is a little nervous about an upcoming band rehearsal so distracts himself by talking about his pedalboard and the choices he made. Somehow this ends up back at a chat about the Rockman sound again and Brian makes musical impersonations. Blake shows Brian some vintage Bucket Brigade chips and he gets very excited. There's been some controversy with some deepfaking of guitar impresario and UFO enthusiast Rob Chapman and the guys debate it.

Brian opens up in his own inimitable yet peanut buttery smooth manner and a certain guitarist makes a telephone call to the studio as we open up with some low brow shenanigans and hot takes. Brian teaches Richard about what he made without making him feel more stupid than he already does. Kinda. Richard was on the Guitar Dads podcast the day the new Line 6 POD Go express was launched and it's got him thinking whilst Brian sweeps for mines and shares his views on the aesthetics. There is some discussion abut the history of Line 6 hardware with the fabled Guitarport and an important lesson from history. Richard apologizes for his transgressions in a previous episode and struggles to speak coherently.

Do you still buy guitar magazines? The guys talk about why they think printed magazines are still more than relevant today and you may be surprised by their views. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 504 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake has been drinking from the special cabinet again and Richard is contemplating a new hobby and thinks he saw one of the best demos he has ever seen for the new Ego 76. Brian learns a new technique for equipment usage and it shatters his mind. Richard tells us of how he recently reconnected with someone who was also making DIY pedals and reflects upon legendary tales of yore.

You don't need a bicycle if you have a horse according to our friend from Portland, and Richard laments Brian's recent decisions and tries to shut him up. The industry reacts to the death of the Bob Heil, inventor and innovator, and the guys look back a little at his legacy and his most famous product, the Heil Talk Box.

Epiphone have released an expensive new 335 and the guys are obliged to discuss it in detail and Blake has quite the tale to tell. Richard tries to invent a new game and fails with spectacularly mediocre results. Meanwhile Brian is lusting after amplifiers and manoeuvring skilfully but becomes alarmed at words that fall out of Blake's mouth. There are some bizarre impersonations.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 503 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has seen a film about the history of Amplifiers recently and he is dumbstruck that he is the only one of the trio that has even heard of it whilst Brian criticizes his accent. Richard also discusses a large legal issue facing Tik Tok and the use of certain music in their fun data mining social app. This turns into a discussion about AI video creation and a very poor Wonka based experience in Scotland.

Wampler are releasing a new pedal and Brian elucidates in a kind of random fashion. He may have leaked this pedal on another podcast recently but with some gentle prodding he goes into great detail. This episode is being released twelve hours before the official release so it's kinda an exclusive for our awesome listeners. Sorta. Kinda. Richard bought an inexpensive new pedal and is super happy. 

Do you use a lightweight rig for gigging or do you take your full pedalboard? The guys chat about this common dilemma and Brian makes some suggestions before giving us his best Jon Bon Jovi impression. This show then deteriorates into further silliness as Brian points out this podcast is an organic thing that just needs to be ridden.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 502 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

It's DIY Tues.. (checks notes) Wednesday! Brian is recovering from an industrial strength sinus infection but braves the slings and arrows of his co-hosts as he brings us all the latest news from Martinsville and the pedal world! Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 501 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian and Blake question Richard's genetics and open up discussing the spectacular 500th episode and Travis gets the blame for everything as we take a fascinating (not) look into the world of podcast production. Richard has DIY questions so Blake take a nap and Brian gives us all some tips on safety at the soldering station. He's very happy with his latest enclosure and the guys talk about different ways of making DIY labels and prints. 

Blake put a post out recently and it caused a minor furore on the Internet so we dig down into the history of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock and try and figure out what makes them different.  Richard tries to sell Brian on the influence of The Kinks to heavy metal and music in general and fails spectacularly. What is it that differentiates Metal from the other genres? Is it the tones or is it the riffs?  The guys try and figure it out but largely go off in different tangents. 

The conversation stays heavily focused on the music that we all grew up to and there are various points of interest. Richard saw the new H.E.R. Stratocaster and absolutely loves it and it is swiftly added to the list. Staying in the world of Fender, we talk about the new Eric Johnson Strat with built in overdrive, and the guys postulate over what the circuit might be...

In this celebratory episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast we are joined by the very two fellers that started this journey off with Brian - Travis Feaster and Max Jeffrey. This is a podcast first for Chasing Tone but fair warning - things get out of hand real quick as we catch up with these two titans of tone. 

There are revelations and confessions aplenty as we explore Brian's "Lost Years" and Richard asks a very insensitive question which turns into a ridiculous story.  Yes, it is that story and somehow it involves diminished chords and breaking one of Brian's amplifiers. The guys chat about the problems of modern technology and laugh at the  foolishness of others whilst Travis keys us in to some cool music-tech developments.

The guys also discuss the earliest days of Wampler pedals and offer their collective take on how this podcast came to be and how the company got to the where it is today. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 499 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake is back with us after an extended stint at NAMM and his voice is registering somewhere between Bane and Batman. Richard makes his feelings known much to Brian's amusement. Was this the best NAMM for several years? It sounds like it might have been and the guys chat about what this means for the guitar industry in general. Richard talks about some of the things he spotted including what he believes to be one of the world's biggest rude jokes. 

Brian has a new mixer and he and Richard have a new pedal - the Keeley Muse Driver - and they both love it.  Richard is a big fan of the design and tells us why. The guys try and pull a prank on Brian and it fails miserably so they make more NAMM observations. Brian loses his mind. Whats the first brand you would recommend to a beginner of the electric guitar? The guys ponder this very question and attempt to explain the internet badly again.

The British King of Fuzz was denied access to a certain pedal so he decides to make his own. He also tells us about why he is a very old man via a nostalgic trip to his hometown. Brian recently ran a video and asked viewers to guess a the identity of a very popular pedal and the results may surprise you. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 498 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We start off with some talk about the genetics of weightlifters and Ozzy Osbourne and somehow the two are related. Brian is looking forward to a week off from the world as he is not going to NAMM and Richard laments his lack of popularity.  His eye was turned by the new Keeley Muse Driver and completely fails to understand how it works. But he loves it.

Richard purchased the new EHX Golden Big Muff but is uncertain as to whether he made the cut - and you will have to wait until next week to find out whether he was successful. There is also a new pedal from Warm audio and the guys puzzle over how they avoid copyright issues before going on a completely unqualified legal debate.   

The Smashing Pumpkins have had to employ full time staff to deal with the guitarist applications they have received and the guys roundly mock this scenario. Joe Bonamassa had an unusual way of dealing with a noisy neighbour issue and this brings Blake much amusement. A recent article talked about the death of tube amps and the guys dig into this with some help from Brian's son.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 497 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian's recorded a new theme tune for the show and the guys are excited to share it with everyone before looking at some artificial unintelligence developments. Richard is not impressed with the underlying robotic signature or something. Whatever. He also tries to add some structure to the show with a special feature and it falls a little flat. Maybe.

What do you do with an LED with three legs? Richard needs some DIY advice and attempts to guess the weight of one of his co-hosts before coming up with a new product that frustrates Brian to the point of complete exasperation. This turns into a conversation about expensive cables and Brian has an idea.

Gibson have launched some new amplifiers and at first glance the guys love the authenticity of them, but upon deeper delving, they discover some marketing quirks. It quickly degenerates into a mass of confusion which we can only assume is caused by Gibson absentmindedly forgetting to send the guys an amp to test. Brian and Richard had a sneak preview of the new Andy Wood album and tell us all about it.

The guys chat about them after a recommendation was made and they have reactions and Brian's head glows red when he realises he dropped the ball on some significant developments. Blake impersonates Tiny Tim.  Conversation inevitably turns to January's industry shindig, NAMM, and once again our British friend feels like Norman No-mates as he won't be going. EVER!

A 52 Blackguard Tele has been spotted in the next Gardiner Houlgate auction in the UK and Brian does some live "math" whilst the guys speculate about the price and conclude they need it. Brian is thinking about either buying or building a new amplifier and Richard tries to convince him to buy a Rivera as well while Blake is GASing for a Victory Kraken.  Brian is concerned for Richard as he invents a new cocktail and Blake tells us a disgusting story about diet cola and we invoke the spirits of Max and Travis. The guys are back with a whole bunch of random views on what's going on in the gear world, and start off with some discussion about the Germanium Tumnus, gear flippers, and financial advice from Brian.  Richard's made a guitar error and he is not afraid to confess to his heinous crime and there is some talk about a new type of string bending mechanism that Brian probably needs. 

Blake and the fine folk over at Stringjoy have a 30 Day Guitar challenge running and Richard listens to him this time and Brian admits to playing "that" solo over the holiday season.  A box was thrown away and causes Richard to reflect on his terrible life choices and he uses words that Brian doesn't understand.

Brian experienced a strange anomaly - has he re-entered the Matrix, is he experiencing the Mandela effect, or is he just incredibly tired and emotional?  Richard joins him in this rabbit hole and there is conspiracy chat before we return to Brian's pedalboard for New Year's Eve. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 494 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has been suffering badly with the Covids and opens up with some interesting confessions about the worst crimes he has committed. He is a terrible man. Brian and Blake also 'fess up and all the guys may - or may not - be in serious trouble as a result.  Richard tells us some guitar based tales of his family, of wandering minstrels, and the resultant jamming that occurred and his tonal observations thereafter.

Analogman made a video demonstrating his impressive Germanium diode surplus and Brian admits he is interested as Blake fantasises about growing another eye. The guys talk about mixing guitar based music and some of the common mistakes one can make in the process. Oh and there is some lag and more noiseless pickup talk. Richard also asks about New Years resolutions and Brian hints at something monumental. Well, 'hint' might be pushing it to be fair...

Brian talks about Big Muffs and ways to improve the classic circuit while Richard asks about the way the controls are designed and this leads into a wider discussion about pedals and naming conventions. Brian and Richard are joined by infamous Youtube creator KDH for a special episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian invited Youtube creator and fellow gear nerd KDH onto the show and both he and Richard are astonished by how young he is - and by extension how old they are. He tells us about his earliest memories and the early inspirations that got him into playing, nerding out over gear, and making Youtube content. He tells us about his  band Walker and his 1980's Hard Rock influences which is music to Brian's ears. Richard apologizes in advance for any cultural reference point based crimes that Brian may be about to commit before jumping into what influenced KDH to form a particular investigative style.

Richard is suffering from the Covid and also manages to completely misjudge everything. The conversation turns into an interesting look at an angle that the guys have never really looked at before and it makes Richard challenge his own views and mentally implode. We touch on some of the infamous controversial videos that KDH has published and learn some disturbing facts as we gaze into the abyss that is the guitar industry as it gazes back at us.

Brian is intrigued by KDH's video production methodology and asks about how he comes up with new content while also finding ways to keep it interesting as Richard fires off back handed compliments and generally misinformed nonsense. The guys look at the pedal industry, some of the business practices therein, and the ethics of cloning versus completely copying pedals.

It's also the final episode for 2023 so we would like to wish you all a fantastic New Year! Next year will mark our 500th episode so we look forward to bringing you even more of the same great content and complete jackfoolery.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

There is some prime guitar related content, allegedly, as the guys look at a recent moment of controversy involving a guitar learning tool and Richard makes a shocking personal revelation or two. Brian, on the other hand, has been arguing with machines. It is exactly as moronic as it sounds. Blake tries to inject some sensibility back into the conversation with limited success.

Blake wears two different hats, and reminds us he doesn't like one of the bestselling pedals of all time. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian has been dabbling with technology whereas Blake's mind is going at a million miles a minute and he may just be losing his mind.  This is the result of caffeine abuse and Brian is confused. Blake has been to see a punk band which leads to a debate about the best looking Les Paul ever. Whats the most annoying injury you can have as a guitar player? Richard has a theory and expounds upon it.

Richard found himself not just attending but also presenting at a masterclass with Wampler Artist (and friend of the show) Andy Wood - and so the self titled 'English King of Fuzz' expounded on his knowledge. He also got to look at a very special Les Paul and tells us all about it. There was a really cool coincidence and there was really hot Indian food and a secret jam may or may not have taken place with the Electric Love Aquatone.

The guys have discovered a new guitar gimmick and they discuss the merits of it and Brian has a number of product ideas. Richard apologises to the Big F as he was given a bum steer on some information about the Tone Master Pro.  He also has some further DIY questions for Professor Wampler and so is schooled in a methodology that may or may not serve him for life. There's a lot going on in the world, happily that includes some pedal releases, and so Blake comes in with some of his own special extrovert phantasmal energy to help launch the new Benson Amps delay pedal. Brian and Richard discuss nerdy things to do with circuits, discuss some of the previous Wampler delay pedals (including the Wampler Metaverse), and remarkably Blake remains awake throughout. Meanwhile Brian had a listener tip off about impulse responses.

Meris have also released a new pedal - the Mercury X - a reverb pedal with lots of fun options and Blake has being playing with it while Richard laments not having one and Brian channels the Australian Beatles. Richard has however been playing with the Black '65 pedal and got unexpected results and tells the guys about this while the guys talk about making mix tapes on cassette.

Brian's been to Hollywood - he's a bit of a big deal don't ya know - and he tells us about his experience with street musicians and has some interesting observations. Its a full scale digital modeling solution and it has the guys attention. Meanwhile, Richard is made to eat his words about who is the biggest fender fan on the show. Wampler have released limited editions of two of their most popular products from the past, the Tweed'57 and the Black'65 "Amp in a Box" pedals, and Brian breaks down a little bit of the history of how they came to be. He also makes a number of potentially foolish video based confessions. Brian explains the core properties of the tone-stacks of the amp's these were based around, and how these pedals are a little different then normal drive pedals. He also explains the subtle improvements with the newer versions vs the originals, the unique switching modes, and the pedal gain structures - before hinting at a special set of videos...

Richard has unusual pedal related habits and breaks them down whilst also telling the guys about the design changes on the new pedals. He has also been using a pedal he created himself on his rig and it has made him very very happy, and he made a new Fuzz pedal too and it was perhaps his most successful circuit build ever. His enclosure however - well that was a failure. A terrible yet amusing failure. 

Have you heard about the "Not for Josh" pedal from Poison Noises? Blake absolutely loves his and the guys talk about it. Richard, filled with confidence from his pedal build, asks some stupid questions. Blake then gives us a more detailed explanation of why Josh of JHS will never own this pedal. Never! Blake has been struggling with various household appliances and Brian has helpful diagnostic information while Richard provides an interesting view on electrical safety differences between certain countries. There is an update to a previous story regarding a famous gear Youtuber / Retailer and how the British advertising authorities reacted and what that means moving forward.   

Richard provides an overview of his latest pedal DIY experiments and reveals his first ever pedal (built from a kit - what a cheat!)...and he has plans for the future. Naturally he made some noobish errors but luckily Brian was on hand to roundly mock him and provide good advice. Brian has been melting in the heat but has some great advice on component choice for any fellow nerds that are interested. Blake has a nap but wakes up when talk of powder coating occurs.

Blake has been installing new active pickups and tells us all about them and Brian offers up his consultancy services before telling us about his new snack discovery via the medium of increasingly terrible Dad jokes. Brian has also been considering making a new pedal / doorbell combination and Richard has found a new pedal "format" for budding pedal DIY nerds to get more hands on with their tone which may result in his expulsion from the guild of pedal makers.

Richard makes some bold and outrageous claims about his fuzz pedal credentials having built exactly one pedal ever and has had some help from one of our supporters and tells us all about it before he and Brian have a genius business idea. Brian has had a long weekend, a veritable blur of guitar activity, and he tells us all about the Woodshed Guitar experience. Josh Scott of JHS pedals did a livestream covering the Wampler Triumph and Phenom pedals and Brian and the guys chat about it. Richard has been wondering about the career longevity of hard rock singers and Brian unveils a whole new talent for vocalisation. Meanwhile Brian has been gigging and had an equipment revelation but it takes a little bit of teasing to get it out of him and Richard fumbles his words in a typically embarrassing manner.

Blake is away to Sweetwater for some sort of content creator jamboree so we are blessed to be joined by the giant intellect of Jake Steffes, Wampler's top engineer, and he has some grievances to air.  Richard is intrigued to hear about Jake's early years, how he got into electronics and how he wound up making awesome pedals via Brian's legendary deck and fishpond.

Brian and Richard have a genius idea for a new sport. Sorry, not genius, whats the word I'm looking for? Idiotic. Yes Idiotic. The guys then take a look at the history of one of Wampler's best selling pedals,  the Ethereal, which was one of Jakes proudest achievements at the time despite the challenges of the limited interface. Richard also drops a large hint before Brian completely destroys him.

Paul Reed Smith have announced the Myles Kennedy signature guitar which looks somewhat like a telecaster, and so the guys talk about it. Richard is currently not a fan of the aesthetics, but he may be swayed as time heals all shocks, and admits he would be up for trying one. There is some Bass talk, and there is band talk, because Jake happens to be a fantastic player in an awesome band! Cory then gives us a little insight into his early days, his formative influences, and the mindset he developed that has got him to where he is today. Creative folk are going to absolutely love this episode!

Brian is curious to learn about some of the bands that influenced Cory and also how he built up his ridiculously precise sense of rhythm. He tells us a trick that anyone can follow but it may cause marital issues and it requires dedication. Cory also breaks down the formula for his influences in a candid interview while also showing us how he channels his creativity into his art.

Cory also details the songwriting process he follows from the ground up and then we get on to some reader questions - most of which are vaguely sensible. He tells us some session work tales and then Brian and he analyze how the Wampler x Cory Wong compressor came to be and what makes it different. Blake's off to NAMM and he is worried about what he may once have said and the guys chat a little bit about this years show and the attendance thereof. He makes some interesting points about the value of the show and Richard laments the fact he has never been despite hating trade shows.

Blake has got some new toys and it causes much annoyance to Richard within 60 seconds and this in turn leads to irregular vitamin suspicions and a tale of Blake's Grandfather's Mexican shopping adventures.  Meanwhile Brian has established what day it is and Richard schools him in the ways of time traveling and 90's rave moves.

It is the final part of the DAW deep dive and it starts off with a disclaimer about terminology and professionalism in journalism. Brian then goes into the nature of Reverb and plugins and IRs and talks about using it in a recording environment a little before telling us about some Wampler Pedals that he are available from IK multimedia.  There is some exclusive plugin news and Blake has a neat hack for increasing your ability to add effects to tracks in your DAW. Richard then manages to confuse himself by multitasking and gets various things wrong multiple times.

There were some leaked pedals which the guys discuss and pay particular attention to a control choice. Gibson have launched an expensive tribute to the original "Greeny" Les Paul and a friend of the show has bought one which leads to some silly product placement and a discussion about why it actually represents great value for money.

Richard suffered some time travelling issues as he rolled into this show and feels a new affinity with his American chums as a result. Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian advises that Blake should isolate himself in the shred shed as he appears to have developed several interesting strains of virus in his household, and is then amazed at the girth of baritone strings. This leads into some admiration of the current Squier range and Baritone scale length discussion. Brian then goes into a mysterious black hole and Richard does his best to rescue him but fails miserably as it degenerates into a local politics discussion.

Richard has bought a new guitar - and the time it took from telling Brian and Blake it existed to buying it was a new show record. He's changed his mind about reliced guitars and Brian manages to drag the conversation back to the gutter. There is also some discussion about the new Marshall pedal reissue range, including Brian breaking down part of the schematic, and he also gets called out in public.

Brian has been educating Richard on amp setup with predictably amusing results before attempting to do an a cappella tap solo.  Meanwhile Blake ponders whether Dave Grohl is the nicest man in music. He's certainly up there. Like the UFO that Richard saw. Yes you read that right. Theres also some talk about the weird emotions that one goes through when selling a guitar.

Why do we stop exploring new music as we get older? The guys talk about an article that breaks down some of the reasons we may have for looking to new music more in certain parts of our life. The saga of Brian's use of Chat GPT to avoid him ever having to communicate with other human beings continues, much to the annoyance of Richard, and the guys look at the issue of who owns the intellectual property to AI generated material.  There was also an interesting article about the state of the music industry and the revenues of each form which the guys take a look at before tackling the recent Superbowl half time show.

Richard has learnt something about the production of a classic 1970's song and it blew his mind, but before he tells Brian and Blake about it, he first has to teach Brian about the song.  He also reveals a terrible fact about the band's name before moving on to the gift that keeps giving, the ongoing saga of Pink Floyd and Roger Waters.

Marshall are re-releasing a bunch of pedals, including the Bluesbreaker and the Guv'nor, so the guys break down the news and Brian inevitably returns at Chat GPT for answers. Sigh. When will he learn? There was also an early release of the TONEX pedal that gets discussed and leads to some mystery. Call in Scooby!

Our glorious leader has returned from his sickly malaise and although he is not quite firing on all cylinders he is at least  semi-coherent.  He has discovered some unusual effects from his illness though and opens up with some interesting observations about how his playing has changed as a result.

You may have seen a little bit of controversy over the recent Pink Floyd (take a shot, spray yourself etc.) logo redesign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dark Side of the Moon. It is possibly the dumbest story that the guys have discussed but discuss it they do! I wish Debs hadn't left me...Blake weeps for humanity as we dissect some of the comments that the internet has churned up. I'm just going to say that if you are playing the Pink Floyd drinking game, you will want to choose something very low in alcohol...

Meanwhile in the Shred Shed, Blake has been recording some heavy sounds with his children and tells us all about his new career as a music mogul. He's also had a new (old) amp day experience and he is a little excited by it as we discover and then the conversation focuses on the Boss Tube Amp Expander as an adjunct to our conversation on attenuators.  Do you like tone knobs on your guitars? Are they essential?  The guys debate this important subject via the medium of Spice analysis, and there is no spraying!

This week the guys travel through time from 2022 to 2023 to talk about things they may be doing a weeks time back in January 2023. Confused yet? Blake has been talking for hours on end and there are some genuine fears his sanity has crumbled. There is talk about the music business and this causes Blake to start back with Freebird. Richard has been playing with Chat GPT, an AI sandbox that has amazing powers, if he had any brains he'd be using it to generate these podcast descriptions. But he doesn't. However he and Brian do believe this is the dawning of a new era for the internet. There are poems, there are songs, 'tis the season (for idiocy) !

Brian has been on a Mandela effect trip and the results are simultaneously baffling, worrying, and delicious. Meanwhile Richard has had a business idea thats guaranteed to make everybody involved very wealthy. Its a perplexing start this week as the guys are all completely confused by everything happening in the world today, particularly politics! Brian fantasises about calling a pedal the Brian Drive after reading the interview Paul Reed Smith gave in a guitar magazine recently. This leads into a funny yet illuminating discussion about pedal names before a technical discrepancy makes Brian's head implode.

Richard has a terrible idea for a guitar brand, and avoids a spraying (narrowly) but he shares a little trick he learnt to get natural reverb in a recording studio which gives Brian an idea. There was a video involving Steve Lukather and a pedalboard failure mid song and the guys break down what happened with admiration, before offering their own power supply advice.

Brian also has a minor rant about some pedals that he is a little freaked out by which leads into conversation about the Moxie and how it can be made to sound like another famous pedal. Brian has also discovered a new form of robot tuner - or is it-  and the guys talk about this always controversial issue and their own tuner preferences.

Blake has been summonsed to Nashville to put his mighty brawn to use in the art of boutique guitar string winding and has bought along a very special guest to the show, Scott Marquart - the owner of Stringjoy strings! It is fair to say that Scott is one of the world's foremost experts in guitar strings, so the guys take the opportunity to take a deep dive into the world of winding metal.

Scott's origin story is fascinating. He tells us how he went from all round gear nerd early on to international string magnate in an amusing and insightful tale. Then he met Blake and beautiful chainsaw doom inspired music was made. Scott gives us some unique 'stringsights' and Blake salivates over the prospect of an 8-string guitar while Brian finds an angle.

Richard made another terrible mistake in his youth which he details and Brian has pressed the wrong button once again. Meanwhile, Blake's head explodes as he channels his inner conspiracy theoriser before Richard expands upon his new theory of American town names which is borderline, no, actually just very stupid. We have an extra special guest this week and Brian may or may not fanboy a little bit. It is of course Chris Shiflett who is a monster player with a huge back catalogue of work - including playing in one of Brian's favorite bands, the Foo Fighters. Chris has some very cool new music coming out and also has his own podcast, Walking The Floor, and we talk about some of his escapades including a rare first hand peek into international tour bus life.

Chris is a super nice dude, and his stories are absolutely fascinating. The guys talk about how Blake first discovered his music. They also go deep into Chris' love of classic rock and roll, and country music, and the influences that drove him to explore country based rock further. The guys then go right back to Chris' roots and his teenage years and find out all about his earliest tastes and influences and his signature Fender guitar. Conversation turns to his different rigs and then pedals...Brian may have found his new happy place amongst all this Foo tinged pedal talk.

Chris has an idea for a custom delay pedal, and gives the guys an entertaining demonstration, and it just so happens Brian knows a guy. As well as being a fantastic player and all round legend, Chris loves football, sorry "soccer", and Richard and he share a love for the same football team so speak in what Blake and Brian can only describe as a completely foreign language. Brian's head spins, and he has fallen in love with one of Chris' solo songs "Born & Raised" so plays a little clip which instantly wins Blake over too. Right at the end Chris gives us some absolute golden insights into his songwriting process which is worth the admission fee itself.

Richard has "Borrowed" a vintage 1963 Fender Stratocaster and he tells us about it - there are some surprising differences with modern Strats that he has uncovered so the guys chat about vintage guitars and that special magic they can exude.  This also leads on to a fascinating and enlightening discussion about switch positions and Brian refuses to listen to Richard's utterly flawed logical fallacies so gets hard evidence to finally prove Richard is indeed a massive fool.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake believes the Universe is conspiring against him because he dared to have a good time and he tells us all about the awesome Pedal hangout he went to and the various foods he sampled on the way.  He returned to find all was not well in the shred shed and this then leads into a conversation about quirky British words.

Is Brian becoming more puritanical in his old age? We ponder this deep and meaningful philosophical question with all the scrutiny of a bored teenager and move swiftly on to BMX and Electric Scooter talk. At some point we may talk about guitar stuff again.  But first - Banger Racing!

Brian also confesses to his Guitar based Dungeons and Dragons childhood tomfoolery and Richard wonders if he has been writing hit Netflix shows. He's also noticed a bit of a price hike on certain Fender guitars and puzzles over what this means for the guitar industry.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake has mahoosive internet lag so the guys are beset by a whole new level of latency -  apologies for the 40,000ms of delay you may experience from the Oregon connection.  Richard reveals that he is inexperienced in another area of American culture and Brian sighs himself to death whilst the guys attempt to discuss the new JHS Solo boost.

Richard spotted the new fender Kingfish artist model and it causes quite a reaction from the crew and Brian invents the first smellable paint finish for guitar pedals. This causes some in-fighting and Brian brings out the spray multiple times to keep the filthy language down to a minimum while Richard ponders if he is once again in a simulation.

There was some controversy about a Kickstarter funded modular guitar and without any expertise or knowledge of the situation the guys weigh in with unqualified and unsubstantiated nonsense.  There are puns, there are bad bits, there are funny bits. No apologies are given. Then Brian tells us about his battle against Mother Nature and it is a story you will not want to miss.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake introduces us to the Wyland car bomb, something that may or may not be illegal in 14 states, and instructs us on the special methods he employs when it is in play. Richard has fallen in love with Jazzmasters and Blake tells him I told you so in a much nicer way than if the tables were turned.  This eventually turns into a conversation about Squier's 40th Anniversary range via ridiculous torque wrench pressure measurements.

Richard then tries terribly to retell the story of "Trigger's Broom" as an analogy but gets nowhere fast whist accusing Blake of reading classical greek literature and Brian purges his cache live on air. There's been some industry news from Fender with a  number of layoffs changes and the guys discuss this and the ramifications for the industry and the consumer.

There have been some interesting new stats around the consumption of "New Music" versus "Old Music"  and the guys dig into the implied consequences not just for music but also culture in general.  This then expands on to predictions for the future of music and possible use of AI. Brian also makes a little apology before repeating himself.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Wampler Pedals have announced the new Moxie overdrive pedal and it makes sounds! Lots of different sounds! Well, according to Blake anyhow. Brian explains the topology of the circuit to a somnambular Blake and an ever sarcastic Richard. Did anyone mention John Mayer?  Brian then goes into the modifications in detail before Blake brings the conversation to food  again and Richard talks a bit about origins of the name and the graphics for the pedal.

Richard signed up for the Dall E Ai image generator and he is mightily impressed and tells us of his early exploits creating foolish imagery of limited use. Brian has finally decided to go Wireless so tells us all about it. He's also been playing around with his Captor X a fair bit too, he has a lot of views, and has found some sounds that thrill him greatly so he flexes his EQ perfecting abilities.

There are a few shocks as the guys analyse some data about the top touring artists in the world - mainly that Richard hasn't heard of half of them.  Brian has a story about a guitar center in Sarasota. Blake has a strategy to help.  Richard wants a hurdy gurdy.
