So, here it is: the final episode of Clash of the Titles. And we’re going out with the biggest bang imaginable.
In the second half of our final destructive duel, we’re casting a cautious eye over 1997’s Volcano, which stars a dismissive Tommy Lee Jones looking suspiciously at manhole covers and literally laughing in the various faces of science. We have yet more disputes around basic volcanic terminology, all while the volcano itself manages to solve racist tensions marring the town. Ah, the movies…
Thank you to everyone who has listened to Clash over the past four and a half years. Be sure to have a peruse of our extensive back catalogue to hear us natter on about loads of movies you love - and plenty you might not.

For the final instalment of Clash of the Titles, there was only one movie matchup we could do: the very films that the entire show was pitched on back in 2019. Oddly, they’re a bit rubbish - but hilarious fun to talk about!
We’re comparing two disastrous natural disasters from 1997, as Volcano takes on today’s topic of eruption discussion: Dante’s Peak. A bitter volcanologist - whose sworn enemy is an actual volcano - gets a shot at vengeance when a huge eruption threatens to wipe out the entire town he’s just stumbled across. Bonus points for insisting on being saved before the women and children in his custody.
We'll be back with the final episode of Clash of the Titles this Thursday!

Sport, sport, sport! This week we’ve pitted a 1988 American romantic comedy sports film against a 1996 American romantic comedy sports film. On Monday’s episode we talked all things Bull Durham, so today we’re tackling the majestic gold movie that is Tin Cup. A wrecked up golf pro tries to qualify for the US Open in order to win over the girlfriend of one of his more successful rivals… totally normal behaviour.

Batters up! Stepping up to the plate this week are two sickly/sweet romcoms disguised as sports dramas. Firstly, Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon swap RBI’s for romance in 1988’s Bull Durham!
Kevin wrestles with his love for America’s diamond (the baseball field), as he and Tim Robbins pitch for Sarandon’s affections amidst the hard knocks of suburban North Carolina. This film actually once topped Sports Illustrated’s list of the greatest sports movies of all time - not that the plot, character development or dialogue would suggest such a thing. Let’s play!

They soon realise a serial killer is on the other end of the line.. And he’s closer than they think. Squaring up to the fight is 1978’s Halloween, but which slasher film will come out on top?

As we tinker with the schedule, and because Alex and Chris are missing going to the cinema due to the lockdown, we’ve recorded a mini-episode reminiscing about good times - and not-so-good times - at the movies. Alex has awkward exchanges with beautiful actresses at a pair of premieres, gets annoyed by a carrier bag full of crisps at another screening, and has The Blair Witch Project spoiled for him at the death. While Chris casts his mind back to some classic summer blockbusters, meets Tommy Wiseau at the Prince Charles Cinema, has a lovely time watching Reservoir Dogs, and falls out with a toddler and a baby during Return of the King.
And it’s back to business as usual next week, with Part 1 of each episode now hitting on a Monday, and Part 2 dropping on the Thursday!

Hi Clashpodders, just a little update on where we are with the show in the current situation and a note on a change of films for this week. The Heat vs The Other Guys has been moved further down the line (but if you have watched them in preparation don't worry we will get to them.)
Instead, this week is a TRIPLE THREAT week as three movies go head to head in the form of: Cast Away. Moon. And The Martian.
All available to rent on Amazon and Cast Away currently free on Sky Cinema if you're a subscriber.
Cheers and back Thursday! Stay safe.
