Dr. Abel, joined by Dr. Bill Nance, interviews Dr. Harry Laver, one of CGSC's Civil War experts, on the life and career of US Grant. Dr. Laver discusses Grant's early failures, temperament, and baptism by fire, which led to his later successes in the war. We trace Grant's Civil War career, from the Trans-Mississippi theater to the surrender in Virginia. Finally, we conclude by examining his presidency briefly and debating his legacy.
