Summary:
In this episode of "Conversations with Kristi", Anna Sonoda discusses the grooming process that can occur with children and emphasises the critical role that adults play in recognising and interrupting this harmful behaviour. She highlights the importance of legal consequences and the need for adults to be vigilant in protecting children from potential harm.
Key Takeaways:
Every adult can interrupt the grooming process. Grooming often starts off appearing sweet. Grooming involves pulling children away from normal activities. Adults must be vigilant in recognizing grooming behaviors. Legal consequences are necessary for protecting children. Extended family may not always act in the child's best interest. Creating space between a child and their support system is a red flag. Opportunities to break rules can be a grooming tactic. Awareness of grooming is crucial for all adults. We must be the cornerstone of support for children.

CONTENT WARNING - Child Sexual Abuse and Grooming
In this episode, Kristi talks with child sexual abuse survivor and advocate Imogen Lee about facing her abuser in court after years of grooming, being unheard and the power of persistence.
Imogen attempted to report her abuse at age 12, 16, 21 and finally at age 28, was able to seek justice. Imogen's story shares her struggles as a child, her process from young child to grown adult reporting her abuse and how she was let down more than once by the systems in place along with the grooming and enabling done by the abuser and parent.
Imogen's ongoing persistence is attributed to her strength and character, however, her story is not uncommon.

Listener discretion is advised. Please consider your own mental health and wellbeing before listening.
In this episode, Kristi takes a deep dive into the horrific childcare abuse case from last week in which 91 children were abused with 1623 child sexual abuse charges being laid against a male child care worker.
Kristi also reads a direct post from one of the parents about how this man tricked and abused her child.
This is a tough topic and conversation but a much needed one! The length of time this man was able to abuse children was due to his manipulative and cunning methods and the grooming of the adults and parents around him.
Kristi goes into how this occurs, the behaviours and red flags displayed and how what we can do if we are feeling scared or fearful about sending our young child to daycare.
