This week we focus on the Prince of Darkness as we celebrate our Top 5 Ozzy Osbourne Songs 1980-1986! One year after being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979, Ozzy came back with a vengeance with Blizzard of Ozz. The combination of Osbourne's lyrics and the guitar gymnastics of Randy Rhodes took the rock world by storm. Additionally, bassist Bob Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake rounded out an incredible sonic assault that would rattle the early 80's.
Not only known for great songs, Ozzy's reputation grew by leaps and bounds in the 1980's. The "Satanic Panic" movement was in full swing and Ozzy was at the top of the list. His crazed antics freaked parents out and, in turn, spawned even crazier rumors about the former Sabbath front man. We touch on our memories of Ozzy during this time as well as our first experiences buying his music.
Following Blizzard Ozzy releases three other great albums during this period. Diary of a Madman continued the momentum before tragedy struck with the untimely death of Rhodes in a plane crash. Enlisting former Mickey Ratt guitarist Jake E. Lee, Osbourne soldiered on with stellar material on Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin.
