Comedian and broadcaster Joel Dommett grew up on a farm in Gloucestershire but, with no interest in getting his hands dirty, he set off for the bright lights of London. He is blessed with funny bones and, after some challenging years on MTV News, he set his sights on stand-up comedy. A stint in the Jungle in 2016 secured his big break and he returned the following year as the host of I'm a Celebrity... Extra Camp. These days Joel Dommett is prime time, presenting The Masked Singer and the National Television Awards. He is married to Hannah and, as well as hosting a podcast together, they are parents to baby Wilde. Joel is here to talk about the new series of his ITV game show In with a Shout.

Joel arrives early for dinner, so Nick gets busy mixing one of his favourite cocktails, a peach paloma and the pair tuck into some pea guacamole and chips, a recipe from Honey & Co. We first fell in love with him as Tim in The Office in 2001; he gained cult status as Dr Watson in Sherlock in 2010; and then hit the big time as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit in 2012. Martin won a Bafta and an Emmy for Sherlock and last year scooped an International Emmy for his portrayal of Chris Carson in The Responder.

Tony Schumacher spent 12 years as a policeman in Liverpool before a period of poor mental health forced him to take stock. While on the road to healing, Tony tried his hand at stand-up comedy and, encouraged by his wife, decided to pursue his dream of becoming an author. Tony has written three novels and penned his critically-acclaimed BBC drama with Martin Freeman in mind.

Nick welcomes our guests with a negroni while Angela prepares the best bolognese by Martha Collison, a dish specially requested by Martin. Lily Allen burst onto the music scene in the mid-2000s with her debut album Alright, Still. It received critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Marian Keyes is one of the most successful Irish novelists of all time. She has written more than 20 books and sold over 35 million copies worldwide. Marian studied law in Dublin to placate her parents but had no interest in pursuing a legal career. Instead her rebellious nature took her to the UK where she lived in a squat in East London. It never occurred to Marian that she might be a writer until one day when she was inspired to write a short story. Kaya Scodelario has grown up in the spotlight. The British-Brazilian actress shot to fame as Effy on E4’s comedy-drama Skins. Siobhán McSweeney always wanted to be an actor but her parents wanted her to be a teacher. Undeterred, she completed a science degree at University College Cork and moved to London to study at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Siobhán’s big break came in 2018 when she was chosen to play Sister Michael in Derry Girls. The show was a huge hit and Siobhán won a BAFTA for her performance in 2023. Jay Blades, MBE is a furniture restoration expert and TV presenter from Hackney, East London. Jay struggled with dyslexia growing up and found solace using his hands. He got by in school, but never learned to read and has since shared his journey to help break the stigma for others in his position. Jay is the much-loved presenter of The Repair Shop on BBC One, which won a BAFTA for Best Daytime Programme in 2023. Dawn O’Porter was born in Scotland but grew up in Guernsey with her aunt and uncle. She spent three years at the Liverpool School for Performing Arts but decided that acting wasn’t for her and got into TV instead. Dawn made her name making documentaries, which explored topics like dieting, dating, pregnancy and polyamory. She moved to LA and met her husband, actor Chris O’Dowd. In 2013, Dawn published her first novel Paper Aeroplanes and has released several books since, including the Sunday Times best-seller, The Cows in 2016. She is one of the founding members of the charity Choose Love which helps refugees all over the world.

Nick and Angela welcome one of the world’s favourite actors to Christmas dinner at Casa Grimshaw.

Florence Pugh comes from a family of performers and cooks, so it’s no surprise that she has mastered both. Her first big role came in 2016, when she played Katherine in Lady Macbeth and by 2020 she was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress as Amy March in Little Women. In 2023 Florence starred in and exec produced A Good Person with Morgan Freeman and starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. In 2024 we will see her in the highly anticipated Dune 2. Florence loves food and has her own YouTube channel, Cooking with Flo, where her fans can watch her make her favourite meals.

Angela has created a wonderful Christmas menu for Waitrose and you can find all the details and her tips and tricks in Waitrose Food magazine online or in store. Angela prepares a pear, Gorgonzola and red chicory salad to start, followed by roast turkey with rosemary, thyme and lemon butter with an apricot, sausage, sage and almond stuffing. On the side are all the trimmings: roast potatoes with confit garlic, spiced cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, Brussels sprouts with hazelnut pangrattato and orange and honey-glazed carrots. And they finish with Florence’s favourite dessert, tiramisu.

The Body Coach began his career as a personal trainer in south-west London in 2012. Joe Wicks harnessed the power of social media and soon thousands of people were following his food and fitness content. During the Covid pandemic, he launched PE with Joe and live-streamed daily workouts for kids stuck at home, which became a global hit and raised money for the NHS. Joe was awarded a Guinness World Record for the most viewers of a fitness workout live-stream on YouTube, with more than 950,000 households tuning in on 24 March 2020. Nick and Angela welcome a wine expert to Dish HQ.

Helen McGinn is an award-winning author, drinks writer and TV wine presenter. Having cut her teeth as a supermarket wine buyer, she went on to found a blog, The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club, which has since become a best-selling book. Helen is the much-loved wine expert on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and writes a monthly wine column for Waitrose Food Magazine.

In this episode, Nick and Angela skip the main course and head straight to the cheese. Helen brings a selection of wine and cheese to the dish table to inspire you this festive season and starts with a bottle of fizz from South Africa, Graham Beck Chardonnay Pinot Noir Brut NV, which our trio tastes with a pecorino and a Cornish Cheese Co. Cornish Brie (available in-store at the Waitrose cheese counter). Next up is a white wine from Bordeaux, Dourthe Roqueblanche Sauvignon Blanc, which Helen pairs with the Clara goat’s cheese, also available at the in-store counter. To follow, a malbec rosé from Argentina goes perfectly with Highmoor, a washed rind cheese from Oxfordshire. Helen pours a red from South Africa, Reyneke Organic Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, which Nick and Angela try with a Godminster organic vintage cheddar. And finally, Helen recommends a sweet wine, Carte Or Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise NV, which she pairs with the No.1 Colston Bassett Stilton.

Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE is a renowned space and science educator and a prominent figure in the field of astronomy. She began watching the skies from her council flat in North London as a child and went on to study physics and mechanical engineering at Imperial College London. Miriam Margolyes OBE is renowned for her acting career spanning over five decades, but it is her inimitable sense of humour that has earned her a special place in the hearts of audiences worldwide. Miriam was the voice of the Cadbury’s caramel bunny in 1990, won a BAFTA for her role in The Age of Innocence in 1994 and portrayed Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter franchise. Her autobiography, This Much is True, sold three million copies and her new book, Oh Miriam! Stories from an Extraordinary Life is out now.

Though not a cook, Miriam absolutely loves food and tucks into Angela’s delicious sage and rosemary chicken stew with mash potato, followed by a tarte tatin, with gusto. Rose Matafeo was born in Auckland and began doing stand-up at 15. She moved to the UK in 2015 and three years later her debut show Horndog won the Best Comedy show award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Richard Corrigan is an Irish chef and restaurateur who has had an illustrious career in food. Over the years he has gained Michelin stars and cooked for the Queen and Barack Obama. He runs four restaurants in London - Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Corrigan’s Mayfair and Daffodil Mulligan - and has recently opened The Portrait Restaurant atop the National Portrait Gallery. Richard has won Great British Menu three times and is a regular judge on the BBC series.

Valentine Warner is a cook and food writer. He began his career in food at the Halcyon restaurant in London, working under chefs like Alastair Little and Rose Carrarini before starting his own catering company. He has written several books and his most recent, The Consolation of Food, was released in 2020. These days, Val spends a lot of time at Kitchen On The Edge, an extraordinary food adventure set above the Arctic Circle in the Lofoten Islands.

Angela delights in cooking for her old friends, preparing Pappardelle with fennel & sausage ragu for Richard and Valentine, who are big pork fans, while Nick pours a Luigi Bosca de Sangre available online at Waitrose Cellar.

Nick and Angela welcome their first Grammy-nominated guest to DISH HQ.

Writer, actor and composer Tim Minchin was born in the UK and raised in Perth, Western Australia. He gained notoriety when he won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005 and his (unplanned) career in comedy took off.  These days, Tim MInchin is busy collecting accolades for his theatre shows, winning a Tony and an Olivier for Matilda: The Musical. He also picked up a Tony award for Groundhog Day: The Musical which has just returned from Broadway to the Old Vic in London for a limited run.

Angela prepares a delicious chargrilled vegetable & orecchiette salad with fresh pesto and rocket while Nick pours a chilled Pinot Noir. Tim is not a cook and marvels at Angela’s prowess in the kitchen. Although there is no cheese course, conversation does start there and the eight minute opera that Tim composed about his favourite food. Our trio talk Groundhog Day, Barbecuing and Twitter.

Nick and Angela are overjoyed to welcome their biggest fan to DISH HQ.

In 1983 a young lad from Warrington began his professional career on Piccadilly Radio in Manchester. Forty years on and Chris Evans is a legend of TV and Radio broadcasting, with the Big Breakfast, the Radio 1 Breakfast Show and TFI Friday  garnering cult status. Chris has also found time to pen some books on his incredible life and his passion, running, which he took up age 47. He now presents the Virgin Radio Breakfast show, weekday mornings from 6.30am.

Chris Evans doesn’t do podcasts, but agreed to appear on DISH (because he loves us) to promote CarFest which is the biggest family fundraising festival in the UK. CarFest has raised over 25 million pounds for charity in 12 years. This year’s event is taking place on the August bank holiday weekend. Tickets are available at www.carfest.org

Angela prepares a delicious meal of orange and herb butter spatchcock chicken with french fries for our guest of honour, who is a big fan of both, while Nick pours the Cave de Lugny Chardonnay Mâcon-Villages.

Nick and Angela welcome their friends Andi and Miquita Oliver to DISH HQ.

Andi Oliver is a chef, broadcaster, author and restaurateur. She is best known as the presenter of Great British Menu, having previously also been a judge. Andi has just released her first cookbook The Pepperpot Diaries: Stories From My Caribbean Table. It's a biographical journey of food and family and is available now.

Miquita Oliver is a television presenter and radio personality, best known for hosting T4 in the early noughties. These days you can catch her on Steph’s Packed Lunch and Sunday Brunch regularly.

This mother and daughter duo has embarked on many TV adventures together, including Eight Go Rallying: The Road to Saigon and they explored their family heritage together on the BBC Two programme, The Caribbean with Andi and Miquita.

Angela prepares a delicious braised sweet and sour pork belly, with mange tout, sugar snap peas and Tenderstem broccoli, while Nick pours a Laurent Miquel Nocturnes Viognier. Conversation bubbles with a warm and fuzzy familiarity as our foursome discuss where they first met, what they enjoy about each other and how they do the biggest festival of the year, Glastonbury.

Nick and Angela are joined by broadcasting icon Ruby Wax.

Ruby Wax is an actress, comedian, writer, television personality and mental health campaigner. Her life in show business began at the Royal Shakespeare Company and from there the lures of TV beckoned. Ruby presented shows like The Full Wax and Ruby Wax Meets in the nineties and noughties, interviewing Donald Trump, OJ Simpson, Goldie Hawn and Pamela Anderson in her inimitable style. A little known Ruby fact is that she was also script editor on all episodes of Absolutely Fabulous.

In 2015, Ruby Wax was awarded an OBE for Services to Mental Health and her new book, the Sunday Times best seller I’m Not As Well As I Thought I Was, is out now.

This week Nick and Angela welcome Charlotte Church to Dish HQ.

Charlotte Church released her debut album Voice of an Angel in 1998  - she was twelve. Since then, she has become one of the most recognisable names in music, selling more than ten million albums worldwide. Charlotte has performed for Queen Elizabeth, the Pope and at George Bush’s inauguration. She fronted The Charlotte Church Show for three seasons and won Best Female Newcomer award at the British Comedy Awards in 2006.

These days, life is entirely different for Charlotte Church and her family. They live in accordance with nature in the heart of rural Wales and Charlotte runs a wellness retreat called The Dreaming.

Nick mixes a raspberry and ginger fizz mocktail while Angela serves a show-stopping savoury cheesecake with balsamic glazed vegetables. It’s Eurovision week and Nick and Angela are joined by superfan Scott Mills.

Scott fulfilled a childhood dream when he joined BBC Radio 1 in 1998 – and he's now the network's longest serving daytime presenter. He has won many awards for his work, including an ARIA for Best Music Entertainment Show in 2021. Scott made the move to BBC Radio 2 last year, taking over from Steve Wright in the afternoon. He has had memorable stints on Gogglebox with Sam Ryder, and on Strictly Come Dancing, where he was an instant hit with the audience for his amazing under-the-sea routine!

Scott Mills is presenting the Eurovision semi-finals alongside Rylan Clark on BBC 1 this year.

It’s Coronation week and Nick and Angela are joined by food royalty, Dame Prue Leith.

Prue Leith, DBE is an octogenarian with no intention of slowing down. Her illustrious career in food includes restaurants, cookery schools, writing and TV. She has published eight novels, a memoir, and fourteen cookbooks. Her latest, Bliss on Toast, was published in 2022.

Best known as a judge on the Great British Bake Off, last year she also presented a gardening programme, Prue’s Great Garden Plot, with her husband, and this year will judge the American equivalent of Bake Off. Dame Prue has also been a judge on The Great British Menu and My Kitchen Rules.

Angela prepares an incredible spread with a little help from a friend, Jeremy Lee’s spring salmagundi (Jersey Royals, asparagus, broad beans, and perfectly boiled eggs) with herby rack of lamb. Nick mixes a delicious cocktail - a King's Coronation Royale, specially created for Waitrose Food magazine by The Ritz - and our trio also enjoy a Gabriel Meffre Organic Côtes du Rhône.

Nick and Angela are joined by Aussie comedian and BBQ King, Adam Hills, MBE.

Adam Hills began performing comedy at 19, toured ten solo shows internationally and presented several TV shows in Australia before he made the move to the UK. In 2012, he was asked to front The Last Leg with Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe, a show created to run alongside the London Paralympics coverage on Channel 4. The programme was such a hit with viewers that it quickly became a permanent fixture.

Adam is a real foodie and recently opened a restaurant with former Nobu head chef, Scott Hallsworth; Freak Scene is a ‘Pan-Asian punk’ eatery in Parsons Green.

Angela prepares some sticky pork ribs for our guest (which he adores) and a tasty spicy cabbage salad. Angela and Nick are joined by national treasure, Alex Jones.

Alex Jones’ route to The One Show couch was far from linear. She began her career by getting fired, twice, but returned to work unphased, prompting the production company to suggest a screen test. Alex aced that and having found her niche, was soon presenting a dating show in Magaluf. Alex joined The One Show in 2010 and appeared on Strictly the following year. She has interviewed stars like Kate Winslet, the Rock and astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who was memorable for many reasons. Alex has also taken part in two incredible Sport Relief challenges, including Hell on the High Seas, which saw six celebrities sail a racing yacht one thousand miles around the UK.

As Alex loves Italian food and is married to an ex-chef, Angela decides to do what she does best, pasta. She prepares puttanesca and reveals how she guarantees a delicious flavour, every time. Nick pours the wine, a No.1 Chianti Classico Riserva Piccini and for dessert, the trio enjoy a tarte aux fruits.

This episode is a giggle from start to finish as Alex reveals what happened when she drove a bus down the M40 with Chris Evans, why she is NOT a baker and why Lionel Richie got more than he bargained for, the day they met.

Dish is back! Season three kicks off with US comedian, writer and author, Rob Delaney.

Twitter launched Rob Delaney’s career in comedy and in 2012 he was named Funniest Person on Twitter by Comedy Central. In 2014, Rob and his wife Leah moved their family from Santa Monica to North London so he could co-write and co-star in Catastrophe with Sharon Horgan. The show ran for four series and the pair won a BAFTA for best comedy writer in 2016.  Sadly, not long after, Rob’s son Henry was diagnosed with a brain tumour and, at just two and a half, he died. In 2022, Rob released a memoir, A Heart that Works; a deeply moving depiction of the grief that Rob’s family and other families endure and the love that ultimately saves their lives.

To mark Easter and a brand new season, Angela serves Rob a leg of lamb with a delicious mint, parsley and almond pesto, broccoli, green beans and new potatoes. The meal is paired with a Blueprint Rioja, Posadas Hisapanas. Rob discusses his passion for peanut butter, what Tom Cruise is like on set and why he’d rather get naked than cook dinner with his wife.

Nick and Angela welcome British-Malaysian comic Phil Wang.

While studying Engineering at Cambridge, Phil got a sniff of stand-up comedy and was hooked. In 2010 and 2011, he was voted funniest student in the UK and the MBA his mother had always dreamed of, was no longer on the table.

Phil has mastered all mediums, with Netflix specials and comedy panel shows like Taskmaster and Have I Got News For You under his belt. He has written a book, Sidesplitter: How to Be from Two Worlds at Once and has also made us laugh aurally, with programmes on BBC Radio 4 and a podcast series called BudPod with fellow comedian Pierre Novellie.

Wang In There, Baby, is Phil’s brand new tour, hitting the UK and Ireland in March.

Infamous for rating local Asian restaurants on twitter while on tour, Phil keeps Angela on her toes as she carefully prepares some spicy beef and broccoli noodles. Nick pairs the dish with a lager, Birra Moretti.

Nick and Angela welcome young British chef and Potato Queen, Poppy O’Toole.

Michelin-trained internet sensation Poppy Cooks went viral last year and rose to culinary fame when she began posting easy-to-follow recipes on TikTok, including the infamous 15 hour potato. Poppy creates easy-to-follow tutorials which have amassed 300 million views on her channels since April 2020, when she lost her job due to the pandemic. Her debut cookbook Poppy Cooks: The Food You Need, breaks down her fine-dining roots and reimagines them in kitchens at home. In 2022, Poppy was a judge on E4’s show Celebrity Cooking School alongside Giorgio Locatelli and she is currently the newest judge of BBC Three's Young MasterChef, alongside Kerth Gumbs.

Poppy and Angela have more than Chef whites in common. They trekked Peru together raising more than £250,000 for Action Against Hunger in 2022. She has recently published her memoir, You’ve Got To Laugh: Stories from a Life Lived to the Full.

Beloved British actor and now author, Hugh Bonneville visits Nick and Angela at casa Grimshaw.

Hugh has appeared in many iconic films opposite some of the greats of Hollywood, Notting Hill with Julia Roberts, Iris with Judi Dench, The Monuments Men with George Clooney, and the Paddington movies with everyone’s favourite bear.

He’s equally celebrated for his portrayal of Robert Crawley in TV drama Downton Abbey and its film adaptations, for which he received Golden Globe nominations, two Emmys and the cast won three SAG Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series.

It’s fair to say that Mr Bonneville rather hit the jackpot, as Angela Hartnett prepares Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. The special occasion calls for oysters and Champagne to start. Followed by a rosemary & black pepper brined wing rib of beef, flanked by sticky pigs in blankets, gratin dauphinois, maple-roast parsnips and carrots, brussels sprouts with pancetta and a red cabbage slaw. All paired with a delicate Muga Selección Especial Reserva and Angela’s special tiramisu for dessert.

Best known as the bassist in Spandau Ballet, Martin Kemp, alongside his brother, Gary, formed one of the most successful Brit pop bands of the 80s selling over 25 million albums worldwide. In the late 90s, Martin swapped the stage for the small screen and joined EastEnders as bad boy Steve Owen.

Nick and Angela welcome a self-confessed ‘Groomzilla’ to Dish HQ.

Comedian Jayde Adams brings her West Country wit to Dish HQ this week. 

Dawn French calls her the ‘3rd funniest woman in the world’ and we know why. Her passion for acting, singing and comedy is rivalled only by her fondness for fodder. Scarlett Moffatt landed in our living rooms in 2014 and has never left. Stars of the smash hit show Gogglebox, the Moffatt family have entertained the nation with their hilarious observations on tv and of course life. Scarlett answered the call of the Jungle and was crowned Queen of I’m a Celebrity in 2016, from there she worked with Ant and Dec on that show and their Saturday Night Takeaway. Having walked 7000 steps before reaching DISH HQ, Scarlett was starving, so Angela prepared a speedy coconut and prawn curry. Nick poured the prosecco and Scarlett entertained us with snack ideas like scotch eggs with chocolate spread and beans on toast topped with wotsits. Conversation includes what she keeps in her cupboard under the stairs, what it’s like being friends with Ant and Dec and the northern ‘delicacy’ that Angela must try!

Tom Grennan is a Bedford boy done good. With a flair for football, he pursued a professional career in his teens until the competition proved too stiff. Taking stock, Tom decided to give his other gift a shot. He began gigging around London and got spotted in a pub by a record label. His songs ‘A Little Bit of Love’ and ‘By Your Side’ (with Calvin Harris) were the second and third most played tracks of 2021 and his new tune ‘All These Nights’ is out now.

As Tom is pescatarian, Angela plated up some delicious hake with a roast red pepper sauce made with love by our novice chef Nick. Round the table, Tom tries an olive for the first time, shares his unconventional mash potato recipe and if you thought Grimshaw’s G-Wagon story was good (James May episode) ...wait till you hear what happened to Tom’s brand new wheels.

This week Michelle de Swarte brings lots of laughter to the table at Dish HQ.

Our guest is multi-talented! At 19 she swapped South London for the catwalks of NYC. Struggling to find her voice, Michelle left modelling for journalism and began making documentary films with icon and activist Gloria Steinem. Next, she gave stand-up comedy a shot which led her to Katherine Ryan, who she supported on tour and starred alongside on Netflix (The Duchess). In what is only her second acting job, Michelle plays ‘Natasha’ in comedy horror The Baby on Sky Atlantic now.

Angela treats Michelle’s taste buds to some succulent roast lamb with lemon chickpeas paired with a fabulous fleurie. Expect funnies about fashion, microwave meals and what starring opposite a baby has taught her.

Giovanni Pernice glides into the Dish kitchen for a meal with Nick and Angela.

The dancer and choreographer has been a professional on Strictly for seven years and took home the title and trophy with his partner Rose Ayling-Ellis in 2021. Fun fact: Giovanni holds the Guinness World Record for jive, kicks and flicks! He is currently on tour with his TV dad / big brother Anton Du Beke.

Born in Italy in 1990, he celebrates Arancini Day (13th December) every year and proudly professes to making a mean cup of tea – which he only learnt how to do last year!
