Jay Blades, MBE is a furniture restoration expert and TV presenter from Hackney, East London. Jay struggled with dyslexia growing up and found solace using his hands. He got by in school, but never learned to read and has since shared his journey to help break the stigma for others in his position. Jay is the much-loved presenter of The Repair Shop on BBC One, which won a BAFTA for Best Daytime Programme in 2023. He released a memoir in 2022, Making It: How Love, Kindness and Community Helped Me Repair My Life. His new show, David and Jay’s Touring Tool Shed, is available on BBC iPlayer now.

Jay is a big fish fan and arrives hungry (which he mentions once or twice!). Luckily for him, Angela has prepared a whole sea bream, with brown butter champ and charred salad onions. Claudia Winkleman studied Art History at Cambridge but soon decided a career in Art was simply too quiet for her. She left the gallery and wandered into television, appearing on shows like Holiday on the BBC, This Morning on ITV and Liquid News on BBC three in the nineties. Her big break came in 2004, when she began presenting Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. Ten years later she stepped on to the dancefloor proper to host Strictly Come Dancing with Tess Daly. In 2020, Claudia scored a Sunday Times bestseller with her collection of hilarious essays, Quite: love, life & eyeliner. For the last two years, Claudia has been thrilling audiences (often with her wardrobe) on the UK’s favourite reality TV show, The Traitors.

Angela prepares a tasty roast topside of beef with Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes and a side of savoy cabbage, providing some delicious inspiration for Mother’s Day. Amol Rajan was born in Kolkata and raised in south London. As a boy he dreamt of becoming a cricketer and would watch tapes of Shane Warne on repeat. He studied English at the University of Cambridge before beginning a career in journalism, becoming one of the youngest ever UK editors of a national newspaper, the Independent, in 2013. Amol spent six years as the BBC’s media editor before taking over the reins on two of their flagship shows, co-hosting Radio 4’s Today programme, along with the Today podcast, and last year succeeding Jeremy Paxman as quizmaster on University Challenge.

Nick mixes a cocktail for Amol, who calls himself a piña colada obsessive, while Angela prepares a delicious coconut fish curry with scotch bonnet & makrut lime leaves. The experts at Waitrose pair the meal with a Saint Clair Gimblett Gravels Reserve Viognier from New Zealand. Saoirse-Monica Jackson grew up in Northern Ireland and studied acting at the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester. She is best known and loved for her portrayal of Erin Quinn in the Emmy award-winning series Derry Girls. Over three seasons the 90s-set comedy became the most popular show on Channel 4 and is now a hit with a global audience on Netflix. It wasn’t long before Hollywood came knocking and Saoirse-Monica won a role in the DC superhero movie The Flash. She is currently starring in period drama The Doll Factory on Paramount+ and later in the year will also appear in The Decameron, based on Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century collection of comic short stories.

Dawn O’Porter was born in Scotland but grew up in Guernsey with her aunt and uncle. She spent three years at the Liverpool School for Performing Arts but decided that acting wasn’t for her and got into TV instead. Dawn made her name making documentaries, which explored topics like dieting, dating, pregnancy and polyamory. She moved to LA and met her husband, actor Chris O’Dowd. In 2013, Dawn published her first novel Paper Aeroplanes and has released several books since, including the Sunday Times best-seller, The Cows in 2016. She is one of the founding members of the charity Choose Love which helps refugees all over the world.

Angela prepares The Best Fish Pie by Martha Collison for seafood fan Dawn with garden peas while Nick pours a Waitrose Loved & Found Carignan blanc. Nick and Angela welcome one of the world’s favourite actors to Christmas dinner at Casa Grimshaw.

Florence Pugh comes from a family of performers and cooks, so it’s no surprise that she has mastered both. Her first big role came in 2016, when she played Katherine in Lady Macbeth and by 2020 she was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress as Amy March in Little Women. In 2023 Florence starred in and exec produced A Good Person with Morgan Freeman and starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. In 2024 we will see her in the highly anticipated Dune 2. Florence loves food and has her own YouTube channel, Cooking with Flo, where her fans can watch her make her favourite meals.

Angela has created a wonderful Christmas menu for Waitrose and you can find all the details and her tips and tricks in Waitrose Food magazine online or in store. Angela prepares a pear, Gorgonzola and red chicory salad to start, followed by roast turkey with rosemary, thyme and lemon butter with an apricot, sausage, sage and almond stuffing. On the side are all the trimmings: roast potatoes with confit garlic, spiced cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, Brussels sprouts with hazelnut pangrattato and orange and honey-glazed carrots. And they finish with Florence’s favourite dessert, tiramisu.

Nick and Florence make cocktails to start and our trio enjoy a Fenaroli Pecorino Superiore and a Villa Antinori Rosso over dinner. The experts at Waitrose also recommend a Waitrose Champagne blanc de noir, which goes perfectly with this Christmas spread.

Helen McGinn is an award-winning author, drinks writer and TV wine presenter. Having cut her teeth as a supermarket wine buyer, she went on to found a blog, The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club, which has since become a best-selling book. Richard Corrigan is an Irish chef and restaurateur who has had an illustrious career in food. Over the years he has gained Michelin stars and cooked for the Queen and Barack Obama. He runs four restaurants in London - Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Corrigan’s Mayfair and Daffodil Mulligan - and has recently opened The Portrait Restaurant atop the National Portrait Gallery. Richard has won Great British Menu three times and is a regular judge on the BBC series.

Valentine Warner is a cook and food writer. He began his career in food at the Halcyon restaurant in London, working under chefs like Alastair Little and Rose Carrarini before starting his own catering company. He has written several books and his most recent, The Consolation of Food, was released in 2020. These days, Val spends a lot of time at Kitchen On The Edge, an extraordinary food adventure set above the Arctic Circle in the Lofoten Islands.

Angela delights in cooking for her old friends, preparing Pappardelle with fennel & sausage ragu for Richard and Valentine, who are big pork fans, while Nick pours a Luigi Bosca de Sangre available online at Waitrose Cellar.

Joanne McNally has been touring her record-breaking stand up show The Prosecco Express for the last two years and is about to embark on the US leg of the tour. Nick and Angela welcome the new hosts of Big Brother to DISH HQ

AJ Odudu and Will Best are HUGE Big Brother fans and both have previous when it comes to the original reality TV show. AJ presented Big Brother's Bit on the Side, alongside Emma Willis and Rylan Clark in 2013, with Will appearing as a regular panellist over the years. AJ co-hosted a one-off revival of The Big Breakfast alongside Mo Gilligan in 2021 and more recently appeared on this year’s Eurovision. Alongside his presenting duties, Will Best set up a drinks company, Bloody Drinks, specialising in Bloody Mary cocktails in a can, which are available in Waitrose.

Will and AJ are big Mexican food fans, so Angela prepares spicy steak and avocado tacos, guacamole and black bean nachos and spiced corn on the cob, while Nick mixes and serves some fiery lime margaritas.

Nick and Angela welcome Michael and Hilary Whitehall to DISH HQ.

Before making his name as Jack Whitehall’s TV travel companion, Michael Whitehall had an illustrious career as a theatrical agent and producer. His clients included Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender. He and Hilary met while she was in search of new representation, while he, she says, was looking for a wife. Jack and Michael have made five series of Travels With My Father for Netflix and co-authored How To Survive Family Holidays with Hilary.

Hilary Whitehall is a massive foodie and furnished Angela with plenty of detail on their dietary requirements. Armed with this information Angela prepares a mouth-watering pan-fried plaice with buttery capers and shallots and Nick pours one of the Whitehalls’ favourites, a M De Minuty Provence Rose.

Season 4 kicks off as Nick and Angela welcome Gordon Ramsay to DISH HQ.

Gordon Ramsay OBE is arguably the most famous chef in the world. His global restaurant empire has been awarded 17 Michelin stars; he has hosted some of the biggest shows on UK and US TV, including Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares; and he has a string of bestselling books. The internet loves Gordon Ramsay and over 60 million people follow him on social media. His new book, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay: A Story of Excellence is out now.

Angela knows exactly what Gordon likes to eat and prepares him a delicious crab linguine with chilli and garlic. Nick pours a vintage English sparkling wine, Gusbourne Exclusive Release, to toast Angela’s birthday and later some Soave, which is paired with the meal by the experts at Waitrose.

Candice Brathwaite is a critically acclaimed writer, journalist and TV presenter. Nick and Angela welcome their first Grammy-nominated guest to DISH HQ.

Writer, actor and composer Tim Minchin was born in the UK and raised in Perth, Western Australia. He gained notoriety when he won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005 and his (unplanned) career in comedy took off.  These days, Tim MInchin is busy collecting accolades for his theatre shows, winning a Tony and an Olivier for Matilda: The Musical. He also picked up a Tony award for Groundhog Day: The Musical which has just returned from Broadway to the Old Vic in London for a limited run.

Angela prepares a delicious chargrilled vegetable & orecchiette salad with fresh pesto and rocket while Nick pours a chilled Pinot Noir. Tim is not a cook and marvels at Angela’s prowess in the kitchen. Nick and Angela are overjoyed to welcome their biggest fan to DISH HQ.

In 1983 a young lad from Warrington began his professional career on Piccadilly Radio in Manchester. Forty years on and Chris Evans is a legend of TV and Radio broadcasting, with the Big Breakfast, the Radio 1 Breakfast Show and TFI Friday  garnering cult status. Chris has also found time to pen some books on his incredible life and his passion, running, which he took up age 47. He now presents the Virgin Radio Breakfast show, weekday mornings from 6.30am.

Chris Evans doesn’t do podcasts, but agreed to appear on DISH (because he loves us) to promote CarFest which is the biggest family fundraising festival in the UK. CarFest has raised over 25 million pounds for charity in 12 years. This year’s event is taking place on the August bank holiday weekend. Tickets are available at www.carfest.org

Her life in show business began at the Royal Shakespeare Company and from there the lures of TV beckoned. This week Nick and Angela welcome Charlotte Church to Dish HQ.

Charlotte Church released her debut album Voice of an Angel in 1998  - she was twelve. Since then, she has become one of the most recognisable names in music, selling more than ten million albums worldwide. Charlotte has performed for Queen Elizabeth, the Pope and at George Bush’s inauguration. She fronted The Charlotte Church Show for three seasons and won Best Female Newcomer award at the British Comedy Awards in 2006.

These days, life is entirely different for Charlotte Church and her family. They live in accordance with nature in the heart of rural Wales and Charlotte runs a wellness retreat called The Dreaming.

Nick mixes a raspberry and ginger fizz mocktail while Angela serves a show-stopping savoury cheesecake with balsamic glazed vegetables. It’s Eurovision week and Nick and Angela are joined by superfan Scott Mills.

Scott fulfilled a childhood dream when he joined BBC Radio 1 in 1998 – and he's now the network's longest serving daytime presenter. He has won many awards for his work, including an ARIA for Best Music Entertainment Show in 2021. Scott made the move to BBC Radio 2 last year, taking over from Steve Wright in the afternoon. He has had memorable stints on Gogglebox with Sam Ryder, and on Strictly Come Dancing, where he was an instant hit with the audience for his amazing under-the-sea routine!

Scott Mills is presenting the Eurovision semi-finals alongside Rylan Clark on BBC 1 this year.

Prue Leith, DBE is an octogenarian with no intention of slowing down. Her illustrious career in food includes restaurants, cookery schools, writing and TV. She has published eight novels, a memoir, and fourteen cookbooks. Her latest, Bliss on Toast, was published in 2022.

Best known as a judge on the Great British Bake Off, last year she also presented a gardening programme, Prue’s Great Garden Plot, with her husband, and this year will judge the American equivalent of Bake Off. Dame Prue has also been a judge on The Great British Menu and My Kitchen Rules.

Angela prepares an incredible spread with a little help from a friend, Jeremy Lee’s spring salmagundi (Jersey Royals, asparagus, broad beans, and perfectly boiled eggs) with herby rack of lamb. Nick mixes a delicious cocktail - a King's Coronation Royale, specially created for Waitrose Food magazine by The Ritz - and our trio also enjoy a Gabriel Meffre Organic Côtes du Rhône.

Emer has been writing and starring in Karen Pirie, a detective drama on ITV and starring in The Curse which you can find on All4.

Nick and Angela are joined by Aussie comedian and BBQ King, Adam Hills, MBE.

Adam Hills began performing comedy at 19, toured ten solo shows internationally and presented several TV shows in Australia before he made the move to the UK. In 2012, he was asked to front The Last Leg with Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe, a show created to run alongside the London Paralympics coverage on Channel 4. Angela and Nick are joined by national treasure, Alex Jones.

Alex Jones’ route to The One Show couch was far from linear. She began her career by getting fired, twice, but returned to work unphased, prompting the production company to suggest a screen test. Alex aced that and having found her niche, was soon presenting a dating show in Magaluf. Alex joined The One Show in 2010 and appeared on Strictly the following year. She has interviewed stars like Kate Winslet, the Rock and astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who was memorable for many reasons. Alex has also taken part in two incredible Sport Relief challenges, including Hell on the High Seas, which saw six celebrities sail a racing yacht one thousand miles around the UK.

As Alex loves Italian food and is married to an ex-chef, Angela decides to do what she does best, pasta. She prepares puttanesca and reveals how she guarantees a delicious flavour, every time. Nick pours the wine, a No.1 Chianti Classico Riserva Piccini and for dessert, the trio enjoy a tarte aux fruits.

Dish is back! Season three kicks off with US comedian, writer and author, Rob Delaney.

Twitter launched Rob Delaney’s career in comedy and in 2012 he was named Funniest Person on Twitter by Comedy Central. In 2014, Rob and his wife Leah moved their family from Santa Monica to North London so he could co-write and co-star in Catastrophe with Sharon Horgan. The show ran for four series and the pair won a BAFTA for best comedy writer in 2016.  Sadly, not long after, Rob’s son Henry was diagnosed with a brain tumour and, at just two and a half, he died. In 2022, Rob released a memoir, A Heart that Works; a deeply moving depiction of the grief that Rob’s family and other families endure and the love that ultimately saves their lives.

To mark Easter and a brand new season, Angela serves Rob a leg of lamb with a delicious mint, parsley and almond pesto, broccoli, green beans and new potatoes. The meal is paired with a Blueprint Rioja, Posadas Hisapanas. Rob discusses his passion for peanut butter, what Tom Cruise is like on set and why he’d rather get naked than cook dinner with his wife.

Nick and Angela welcome British-Malaysian comic Phil Wang.

While studying Engineering at Cambridge, Phil got a sniff of stand-up comedy and was hooked. In 2010 and 2011, he was voted funniest student in the UK and the MBA his mother had always dreamed of, was no longer on the table.

Nick and Angela welcome young British chef and Potato Queen, Poppy O’Toole.

Michelin-trained internet sensation Poppy Cooks went viral last year and rose to culinary fame when she began posting easy-to-follow recipes on TikTok, including the infamous 15 hour potato. Poppy creates easy-to-follow tutorials which have amassed 300 million views on her channels since April 2020, when she lost her job due to the pandemic. Her debut cookbook Poppy Cooks: The Food You Need, breaks down her fine-dining roots and reimagines them in kitchens at home. In 2022, Poppy was a judge on E4’s show Celebrity Cooking School alongside Giorgio Locatelli and she is currently the newest judge of BBC Three's Young MasterChef, alongside Kerth Gumbs.

Poppy and Angela have more than Chef whites in common. They trekked Peru together raising more than £250,000 for Action Against Hunger in 2022. Beloved British actor and now author, Hugh Bonneville visits Nick and Angela at casa Grimshaw.

Best known as the bassist in Spandau Ballet, Martin Kemp, alongside his brother, Gary, formed one of the most successful Brit pop bands of the 80s selling over 25 million albums worldwide. In the late 90s, Martin swapped the stage for the small screen and joined EastEnders as bad boy Steve Owen.

These days, Martin and his son Roman are regulars on Celebrity Gogglebox and he has just released his brand new book Ticket to the World: My 80s Story, an evocative memoir and joyous celebration of the culture of the decade.

Happily, Martin is a huge fan of Italian food so Angela prepares a creamy mushroom & cavolo nero pasta. The dish features handmade tagliatelle, a mix of porcini and chestnut mushrooms (with a drop of Marmite), cream and grated Parmigiano. It's paired with freshly squeezed apple juice, a gift from Martin’s garden.

Nick and Angela welcome good friend and chicest man alive, Stanley Tucci.

Stanley is an award-winning actor and filmmaker. Nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for The Lovely Bones (2009). The list of his outstanding performances is endless, The Hunger Games, Burlesque, The Devil Wears Prada and Julie & Julia, alongside the inimitable Meryl Streep.

Stanley’s success is not limited to the big screen either as he has won an Emmy for his TV show Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy and recently starred in Inside Man on the BBC with David Tennant. His next role is as Clive Davis in the up-coming Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody which is out at Christmas.

In this episode, Nick nervously serves Stanley a negroni and Angela prepares one of his favourite meals, spaghetti alle vongole, with clams, chilli, garlic, parsley and crispy pangritata (toasted breadcrumbs). Stanley is a man of taste, he talks Italian cooking with Angela, the importance of a leather shoe with Nick and casually drops names like Ryan Reynolds, Cher and Judi Dench into conversation.

Nick and Angela welcome award-winning author, journalist, columnist, podcaster, screenwriter and foodie Dolly Alderton!

Her first book Everything I Know About Love became a top five Sunday Times bestseller in its first week of publication and won a National Book Award in 2018.  She is the former co-host and co-creator of the podcast The High Low. Dolly’s first novel Ghosts was published in 2020 and this year, Everything I Know About Love was adapted into a BBC One TV Series. Currently, she has her dream job, Agony Aunt at The Sunday Times Style, and a collection of her columns have been released as a book Dear Dolly, which is out now.

In September Dolly wrote on instagram ‘I don’t want to interact with you at all unless you are a bowl of soup or maybe a stew’... Angela took the hint and prepared a Tuscan-inspired fish stew with a side of crusty bread. Nick was on hand with a classic Champagne cocktail and the three discussed everything they know about love, life, friendship and, of course, cooking.

Nick and Angela are joined by stand-up comedian Russell Howard.

Nick and Angela welcome another MBE to Dish HQ.

The incredible actor and author David Harewood brings some Hollywood to proceedings this week. Star of stage and screen, he has appeared in major TV shows like The Night Manager with Olivia Colman and Tom Hiddleston, Super Girl and the multi-award winning Homeland with Claire Danes and Damian Lewis. It is on stage, David says that he feels most at home, treading the boards in Othello and King Lear among others.

David’s outstanding memoir Maybe I Don’t Belong Here is out now in paperback. The book tracks his harrowing experience of psychosis in his early twenties and how he has made a full recovery and the lessons it taught him. 

Angela is a huge fan of David’s work and was delighted to cook his favourite dish, a steak sandwich with fries, washed down with an Elephant in the Room Pinot Noir.

It’s fair to say that this chef, restaurateur and author has transformed the way the world prepares and shares food. Yotam Ottolenghi creates a feast for the eyes (that INSTA grid) and a feast for our tables too. Scarlett Moffatt landed in our living rooms in 2014 and has never left. Tom Grennan is a Bedford boy done good. With a flair for football, he pursued a professional career in his teens until the competition proved too stiff. Taking stock, Tom decided to give his other gift a shot. He began gigging around London and got spotted in a pub by a record label. His songs ‘A Little Bit of Love’ and ‘By Your Side’ (with Calvin Harris) were the second and third most played tracks of 2021 and his new tune ‘All These Nights’ is out now.

This week Michelle de Swarte brings lots of laughter to the table at Dish HQ.

Struggling to find her voice, Michelle left modelling for journalism and began making documentary films with icon and activist Gloria Steinem. Giovanni Pernice glides into the Dish kitchen for a meal with Nick and Angela.

The dancer and choreographer has been a professional on Strictly for seven years and took home the title and trophy with his partner Rose Ayling-Ellis in 2021.
