Here we are 27 years late and the 7th entry into this franchise is headed to theaters soon, so this one must have done something right. A stellar cast, great casting, and a 90's feel that you can't escape. All those things made the movie work when it came out, but we want to know, Does it Hold Up?

The whole world was asking these questions after watching Inception for the very first time. Leonardo DiCaprio wowed audiences with his portrayal of Cobb, a man obsessed with getting back to his kids by planting an idea into a man's dreams. With a stacked cast, a fantastic script, the BWONG noise, and some amazing special effects, the world of film would never be the same again. Was it all a dream, and does it hold up?

Just two years after Selena's tragic murder by Yolanda Saldivar, the movie let's audiences into the life and times of the Grammy winner from when she was a just girl first learning to sing and learning to speak Spanish, all the way to her untimely death. 

This movie stars Jennifer Lopez, Edward James Olmos, Jon Seda, Constance Marie, Jackie Guerra, Jacob Vargas, and more. With this movie releasing almost 2 years to the day after the murder took place, does it do justice to the story or does it feel rushed? Does it give you the full story or does it hide some of the truth? There's many questions that can be asked, but the only one we can answer is, Does It Hold Up?

October 10th, 2014 Damien Chazelle brings to audiences everywhere his first directorial debut. All about Jazz drumming enthusiast Andrew, played by Miles Teller, going toe to toe with overbearing and controversial teacher Fletcher, played by J.K. Simmons. This is a story about how drive and passion can become overwhelming and may not always be the right way to go about things. It also asks a very complicated question of teaching methods and when does it cross the line and become too much.

Some brilliant performances drive the at times unfocused narrative. The directing is amazing and the jazz infused score is hypnotizing. There is so much to like about this film, but there's just as much to dislike. So the question as always is...Does it hold up?

"It's a serious of moving images, but that's not important right now.") that everyone knows the lines from, has seen clips from, and remembers fondly. Surely, Leslie Nielsen has his most famous role in this movie. Yes he does, and don't call me Shirley. There are jokes flying a mile a minute in this wacky comedy based entirely on the 1957 film Zero Hour, but there's no way these jokes still work in 2023. That's what we are here to find out, does Airplane! hold up?

This is a long episode because we welcome a special guest, our close friend Matty from the No Nerds Were Harmed podcast. One of the biggest Batman fans I know so we needed his opinion on one of the most divisive Batman movies of all time. 

June 16, 1995 Val Kilmer dons the Batsuit for the first and only time in his career. His Batman takes on Robin as his partner, falls for Chase Meridian, outsmarts Two Face, and matches wits with The Riddler. Chris O'Donnell, Nicole Kidman, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jim Carrey respectively. Joel Schumacher takes over as director, after Tim Burton leaves the project, and gives us a brand new Gotham and a brand new Caped Crusader. This was the top grossing movie for 1995, but has been dragged through the dirt in the years since. 

Does this movie deserve the vitriol and hatred it receives? Does it deserve the love that others pour upon it? We aren't here to decide if it deserves love or hate, but we are here to answer the question; Does It Hold Up?

July 1st, 1992 women take over the game of baseball on the big screen. The Rockford Peaches are one of 4 teams in the newly made All American Girls Baseball league. A real league that existed for 9 seasons from 1943 to 1954. Geena Davis stars as Dottie Henson, Tom Hanks as Jimmy Duggan, and Lori Petty as Kit Keller. These characters all feel so real and when the side characters are played by Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna, you know you're in for something special. This is one of the sports movies it feels like every single person has seen at least once.

The first year of the AAGBL is historic and although the story in this is movie is fabricated, it doesn't take away from what a moment in history this was. All this story does it give us a wonderful work of non-fiction over some real world events. Is this the best sports movie of all time? Is it your favorite sports movie of all time? She's joined by Chole, Aubrey, Fat Amy, and more. The only problem is, they aren't a team and going up against the defending champs, the Treblemakers, is not going to be easy. An infectious soundtrack will have you tapping your toes along to each and every beat. The US government wants all mutants (superpowered humans) to register and probably something more sinister even. Professor Xavier and his band of mutants, the titular X-Men, don't agree with this decision but want to resolve things in a peaceful way. Their opposites are Magneto and his Brotherhood of mutants who want to resolve things in a more violent way. Magneto has created a machine that can change normal humans to mutants. Which of these groups will come out on top? Will the US government get what they want? And most importantly, Does it Hold Up?

August 21, 1998 is when a Daywalker fought a vampire god. Wesley Snipes played the titular role in one of Marvel's first ventures into big screen movie. He's joined by a great supporting cast and some interesting characters. A lifetime of war for Blade against the undead with his partner Whistler is coming to an Armageddon as Deacon Frost is set to unleash La Magra, a literal vampire god. This dark and gritty R-Rated comic book movie would be a surprise hit with critics and audiences which would lead the studio to follow up with two sequels with varying degrees of success. Now in 2022 we want to know, Does it Hold Up?

May 6th 2008, Tony Stark dons a suit made of a metal alloy, but for some reason is dubbed Iron Man. After profiting from war for many years Tony has a near death experience that changes everything. He decides to become a living weapon and put an end to weapons manufacturing and selling of firearms. His entire life get flipped upside down and now he is seen as one of the greatest heroes the world has to offer. Marvel Studios took a huge gamble with this movie and as we all know it paid off in spades. 20+ more movies and arguably the biggest movie franchise ever all started right here with an unproven director and a problematic leading man. The movie went on to be a smash hit, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?

Sally tries to convince him it's a bad idea, but he won't listen. Audiences get your water ready and warm up your vocal chords because you're going to want to sing along with every beat of music for the whole hour plus of the movie. December 13, 1985 a couple of murders take place. Prof. Plum, Col. Mustard, Mr. Green, Miss Scarlett, Mrs. Peacock, and Mrs. White all join become part of a chaotic murder spree inside a large mansion while they are lead around by Wadsworth, the butler. This grim black comedy has some very high spots but also some low. It may be one of the most talented casts ever assembled in a movie that performed so poorly upon initial release. The debate now rages about whether this is a good movie or not, but we ask the real question...Does it Hold Up?

June 5, 1998, Truman Burbank is about to turn thirty years old. What he doesn't know is that his tv show is also about to start it's thirtieth season. He has unwillingly been a part of a 24/7 broadcast where his life is the number one show in the world. This year things are going to be different though as his world crumbles around him. Everything starts seeming a little off and Truman can't shake the feeling that everyone in his life is lying to him for some reason. When he starts to piece things together; he really begins question everything around him including his own wife and family. But we ask the real question...Does it Hold Up?

June 22, 2001 is the start of a worldwide phenomenon of movies. The Fast and The Furious brings speed and bright colors to audiences everywhere. Cars are cool. Going fast is cool. Everyone wants a fast car and to do some crazy street racing now. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel gives us a bromance for the ages even though one of them is an undercover cop and the other is a high end thief. Tag along on a high octane ride as the undercover cop starts asking around about all the stolen merchandise, but we ask the real question...Does it Hold Up?

June 3, 1988 a young boy named Josh asks the magical Zoltar to make him big. Audiences then watch as this boy turns into a grown man over night and watches him deal with the strangeness of being an adult with the mind of a 13 year old. Everyone questions if he will choose to become a kid again or stay a grown up, but we ask the real question...Does it Hold Up?

April 30, 2004 Mean Girls hits theaters and Cady wants some friends. Gretchen is trying to make fetch happen and Karen is predicting the weather. Janice and Damien are skipping class and Regina is leading The Plastics. All that's about to change as people begin asking questions, but we ask the most important question...Does it hold up?

November 5, 2010 a blue skinned, big headed, evil genius walks into movie theaters everywhere. Megamind works hard to takeover Metrocity (Metro City to everyone else) and only one man can stop him, Metro Man. Megamind will learn about loss, loneliness, caring, and having a heart while he has to go from villain to hero. The only problem is he's still wondering if he can do it, but we ask the real question Does it Hold Up?

Gross, unnerving, and clever crime scenes lead the story down a dark and gritty path. Each new crime leads the detectives closer to figuring out who John Doe really is. December 25, 1993 audiences everywhere get a nice Christmas gift. Batman hits the big screen in animated form. Bruce Timm (co-director) and Anrea Romano (voice casting) come together to replicate the magic of the cartoon series this movie is based on. The Phantasm is a new vigilante in town that will cross the line Batman doesn't dare to cross. Everyone is asking if Batman is finally going to lose, but we ask the real question...Does it Hold Up?

March 31, 1999 audiences are asked a simple question; What is the Matrix? The 5th highest grossing domestic film of the year becomes one of the best modern classic films. People head to the theaters multiple times to find out the answer and a brand new genre of filmmaking is born. Action, explosions, bullet time, and computer programming are all made to seem cool as can be, and everywhere sunglasses are flying off the shelves. The Matrix spawned 3 sequels with the most recent releasing in 2022, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?

August 1, 1986 comic book movies make the leap to the big screen with Howard the Duck. George Lucas fresh off of Star Wars brings us a humanoid duck that is brought to Earth along with the evil Dark Overlords. With the help of his new friends Howard will help fight back the bad guys. Although this movie bombed at the box office during its initial release, it has developed a cult following since, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?

Summer 2010, the world is introduced to Gru and his minions as they try to become the best villains in the world in Despicable Me. Kids are laughing at the wacky things happening and the parents are enjoying the more heartfelt moments. It goes on to spawn a slew of sequels and spin-offs while becoming the 8th highest grossing film of the year, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?

November 22, 1995 introduces audiences to the concept that toys can be alive when we aren't around. Toy story was a ground breaking film as the first ever fully computer generated animated film. It changed the way movies were to be made going forward. Woody and Buzz stood the test of time as a new Toy Story sequel was just released in 2019 and a spin-off in 2022. Toy Story would go on to become the highest grossing film released in 1995, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?

June 11, 1993 dinosaurs invade the theaters in one of the most beloved movies of all time. Spielberg does it again with a classic for the ages and kids everywhere now want to be a paleontologist. Intrigue and wonder fill the screens as kids and adults both are in awe of the mighty T-Rex and the clever velociraptors. Dreams of seeing a dinosaur in real life flood everyone's heads. The greatest dinosaur movie of all time becomes a massive success, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?

May 16, 1986 a classic film hit cinemas. Top Gun launches Tom Cruise into superstardom. US Navy sees record enlistment due to the film. Everything goes right for director Tony Scott and studio Paramount. The film becomes a beloved classic, but we ask the question...Does it Hold Up?
