February is Black History Month, and Door Key is celebrating that by talking about George Washington Carver.
Carver was one of the most prominent black scientists of the early 20th century. He was a professor at Tuskegee Institute, where he developed techniques to improve soil that had been depleted by repeated plantings of cotton. He also wrote a bulletin that contained 105 recipes using peanuts, and spent years developing and promoting many products made from peanuts. Carver was also a leader in promoting environmentalism, and received numerous honors for his work.
