Destined friends and professional fans Saya, Anisa and Paroma yak—at length—about Korean dramas. Expect a healthy mix of subjective critique and objective fangirling.
The podcast Dramas Over Flowers is created by Saya, Anisa, and Paroma. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
Anisa and Paroma pop in before our next installment of the Year-End Yak to chat about currently airing dramas, including pretty much a full Spoiled Yak about Love Scout, which we ADORED. Paroma convinces Anisa to watch My Dearest Nemesis, Anisa laments the wasted potential of Melo Movie, and more.

In this episode we discuss the many popular re-unions of famous romantic and non-romantic actor couples. We ask why these re-unions happen, do they ever achieve the popularity of the original project, and why is there often a distinct shift in genres? Just Saya popping in to share her thoughts on an assortment of dramas: a mixture of bright and dark, exquisite and questionable, therapeutic and aggravating. Understanding deeply that nobody wants a brutal analysis of this candyfloss, I have stuck to talking about two things that I found really interesting:
(ONE) how the drama tries to equate the female lead's wariness of men to the male lead's shallow beliefs and hostile reactions to women... and then undermines its own thesis
(TWO) how the male leads in romantic k-dramas go through an emotional journey, whereas the female leads go through social ones

Shooting Stars (aka sh**ting stars) starring Lee Sung-kyung and Kim Young-dae was one of the more entertaining dramas of 2022. We liked it a lot, but it also deserved all the thrashing it got online on certain subplots in the story. We talk about all of it in this spoiled yak.

Anisa sits down with Paroma to convince her to watch If You Wish Upon Me, an unexpectedly healing drama with a wonderful ensemble cast and moving depictions of grief, redemption and reconciliation. Ji Chang-wook is finally in the kind of role he deserves, Choi Soo-young brings her unique brand of incandescence, Sung Dong-il is giving FULL DAD, and Anisa can't help but be reminded of SNSD's Genie every time she sees the title. Because, this meta was clearly intentional.

This episode started as a spoilery discussion of Arsenal Military Academy (a 2019 chinese drama set in the early 20th century, starring Bai Lu and Xu Kai), but became a longer conversation on the history of imperialism and china's use of underdog stories to ignite national pride. But it's still a dramas over flowers episode, so expect lots of fangirling and explosive laughter.

The Red Sleeve is a story of a woman's wish to belong to herself and the man who couldn't let her go. It's also about a king who couldn't trust his grandson and a crown prince who survived against all odds so he could some day be a good ruler to his people.
Mimi from The Talking Cupboard joins Paroma in a very spoilery episode where they wonder at the superior storytelling, the strength of conviction of the creators, and the exceptional performance by the entire cast, but most especially by Lee Jun-ho and Lee Se-young.

It's been almost 2 years, guys. It's definitely time to move on from #KimSeonHo's breakout performance in START-UP. But before we do, here's a look back at why #HanJiPyeong captured our hearts, how much of this effect was intentional on the creators' part, and why his fans walked away bitter after that ending.

It’s the end of the year and as we all reflect on the dramas we loved in 2021, we thought it would be a good time to release this Spoiled Yak on one of our favorites—Run On. Our friend, Seoulbeats editor Rimi, joins Anisa Paroma for a long and detailed squee session about the show. If it sounds familiar, that’s because we actually recorded this in a livestream on Valentines day. In the spirit of Mi-joo’s movie madness, our topic headings for this Spoled Yak are all film references. Listen and relive the feels for this incredibly well-written, moving, hilarious show.

Saya and Paroma sit down for a good gab about jTBC's 10-year anniversary drama, Sisyphus: The Myth, that aired earlier in the year, starring Park Shin-hye and Jo Seung-woo. We discuss why it wasn't a perfect show, but also the things that were perfectly done despite it. We're optimistic about the future of sci-fi in the K-drama realm, though, and the lush scope of Sisyphus gets us really excited! Come and listen!
Note: At times, we (mainly Saya) use the name 'Seung-bok' to refer to Eddy Kim. They are the same person!

We’ve had more reasonably sized yaks lately, but we had a lot of dramas to talk about when we sat down to record this, so settle in for a long one. This yak is premiere-heavy—we discuss our first impressions of a LOT of shows, as well as some ongoing and final thoughts on other dramas.

Some announcements about upcoming events, as well as some boring administrative stuff about Patreon and episode names (you wouldn't know it by how much we giggle though).
