Lucy is picking up high level BBC intelligence from secret drops in Epping Forest whilst she is recording Walky Talky. These drops includes this week’s DumTeeDum from Doha. Lucy then gets the order of the podcast wrong (twice) this week and Roifield leaves her apparent confusion in the final version.20 year listener comedian Chris Neill then keeps Lucy in painful stitches (she had just been to pilates) for some 20 minutes as they discuss the ins and outs of our favourite programme. Chris first remembers listening to the death of John Archer. If he joined the cast Chris would like to live with the Grundys at Grange Farm and have a go on Tom should the opportunity arise. For the record Sean’s partner at the Cat and Fiddle was called Peter.Lucy then did the Bartleby not Joe joke! She then explains the Archer family tree to Chris as they are all related really, but they get sidelined over Peggy. I think I should confirm that Jack and Phil Archer were brothers, which is how they are all related. Anthea went about the same time as Matt as she had had enough, so Amside must be in a mess.The calls split into two camps this week, so lots of Pip/Toby (saying told you so mainly) followed by a slice of calls about thin Bill. Then there is a discussion on Leaving the EU – why I know not as it will happen – so the discussion should focus on achieving the best future result and not replaying the same arguments. Millie Belle does a great social media update. In line with the output from microphones in Ambridge our hosts quickly turn to discussing films rather than Ambridge. Why is this important in Ambridge? Listen to hear Lucy's theory - she takes three minutes of discourse to tell us! More importantly, the mad driving in Ambridge is being signposted every two minutes and it seems inevitable that someone is going to cop it - who will it be? Go and tell the forum your preferred candidate together with the reason why.

Roifield tries to wind Lucy up over female cricketers - she fails to get bowled over and we get reminded of the way that Joe was so nice to Kirsty over recent events. The "off air" tweeting between Tom and Kirsty is obviously another important pointer to the continuing relationship as they draw closer. There was a lot of mobile activity this week.

GoddessDeeva is convinced that Lilian is not really enjoying her relationship any longer. She reckons Lilian will tell Miranda everything at the forthcoming party. In Lucy's experience the single person always loses out and the married person stays married.

WalkyTalky gets mentioned. I don't understand it. Lucy talks to people whilst out walking the dogs. I am always listening to podcasts or The Archers and never talk to anyone - what is wrong with me? I have certainly never asked anyone to go into the bushes with me!

This week the rendition of Barwick Green came from the Academic Archers conference at Lincoln - the largest number of voices ever! Huge proof of the ever growing community brings tears to the eyes of Lucy and Roifield. Roifield's mum said "Well done son!"Lucy is in full flow with the monologue covering the Home Farm party, Miranda, who kept turning up everywhere, Burns and the cricket team, Freddie and the driving lessons with Kenton, the fail proof plan for the Grange Farm B&B, Lilian showing off her underwear and Alastair trying to work with a partner. Roifield missed Lucy last week. Lucy was in New York with her family and reported on what she was doing there instead of making the podcast. A good time was had by all apparently.Witherspoon thinks there has been a hurried story U-turn over the baby and Lucy agrees - possibly the actress has other work taking her away from Ambridge? Everyone thinks it is all very odd. However the baby miscarriage story was all very well done. The writer whom Lucy could not name was Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti; she clearly wrote some blinding episodes for the week. Well done to her and the cast. Roifield then got onto the Oscars and insists that "Lion" should win. Dev Patel is the star apparently and the plot is relatively thin he says!Berrow Farm mega dairy building was bull dozed. All cows sold, all staff sacked. The anaerobic digesters are being fed with lorry loads of chicken shit from the Ramsbury broiler unit. Millions wasted. The dodgy end of the deal is BL. Brian is free to offer any price he likes, providing he is not part of the BL decision making board. Justin is NOT a member of the BL board so cannot negotiate the sale of the land. Yes Kosmo is concerned at the way the law is broken!! Am I taking this all too seriously?Then Roifield tells Lucy off for being Joyce Grenfell! Well who knew? Roifield mentioned Hardeep Singh Kohli last week and amazingly he listens to the Archers, DumTeeDum and will be joining the podcast next week for an interview, with Roifield observing that it will be nice to have someone funny on the show for once. Lucy was predictably miffed - but still delivered an amazing monologue examining in detail Pip and Toby's relationship. Relationship? Relationship? She moved onto Susan, Tracy, Justin, Lilian, Miranda showering them in jokes and then revisited Anisha's bush, which is not thought to be where Rob was hiding all week. She then imitated Henry to a "T" before arranging for Rob to be flattened, or at least get his comeuppance. Busy week in Ambridge.Roifield felt that the retention and possible redemption of Rob would make for interesting stories for many years to come. Lucy reflects that Rob's particular situation makes that almost impossible to engineer within the docu-drama - and might be a way forward in a few years when the current hatred for Rob has perhaps died down.Many callers and emails this week - listen carefully and digest. Our hosts have an interesting discussion over the current story lines which are somewhat "meh" as far as Lucy is concerned whilst Roifield feels that the Pip and Toby extravaganza is finding different ways of investigating the Archer family dynamics. Pulling the wide variety of story lines together shows that our favourite fly on the wall documentary is back on the sort of form we should be enjoying.Jan from Can is sympathetic to Lilian and is still keen not to be without a man in her life after Matt's departure. Lucy is not sure that really explains her reluctance to name Rob. I feel that Justin's point that his decision relates to work also weighs heavily on her mind. Roy is described as both tedious and thick - now there is a character who could do with a personality transplant and a visit from the relevant fairy (Roifield converts it to solid and dependable) - by Steve from Poole (Byeeeeeeeeeee, Goodbyeeeeeeeeee) who also savages Jill over her feelings about the Fairbrother idiot. When will Pip see he is a berk? Sadly despite my best guesses it does appear that Kirsty is not pregnant. Niamh is a first time caller and follows the rules closely - she is a "Rich" / "Johnny". She thinks Toby is simply conniving - not controlling like "He Who Must Not Be Named." Lucy hopes Pip and Toby will be over for Christmas. Aunty Jean wants a doctor to explain what Nathan Booth was doing with his balls, that would be his ping pong balls!Aunty Jean's appeal has been successful and the NHS have reversed their decision and will find the funds needed for Mr Jean's treatment. She then went on to note how upset Ian was with Adam entering so many gentlemen's buttonholes. Joe, William, Eddie and George all seem to come from different parts of the country even though they all grew up in the same village. Lucy has a new hat as health and safety advisor pointing out that cooking breakfast in the nude is highly unsafe and there are standard rom com rules on what to wear to prevent injury which Toby did not follow; she does not know what Tom did. She also gave Judge Loomis a salute for calling Rob a massive shit in legal parlance. Luckily there are no Italian listeners to complain about Lucy's history references - but Roifield still does and then later admits she is right!Both hosts are now anticipating a study of Rob's angst as a serial relocator is required to stay put to look after two sons (or maybe just one?). Lady Garf Garf feels sorry for Rob - perhaps he was just trying to look after Helen? - and would like to know more, although the causes seem to be Bruce and Ursula. Rob is the new Hazel Woolley, every appearance will cause distress; will he actually try to win Helen back?Hopefully Jan from Can will not be lonely in Vancouver much longer as Cornerstone are developing a map linkup for podcast listeners which will be on the website soonish. Some were made before the verdict and some afterwards - so it is mixed bag of predictions and celebrations as the callerinerers reflect on an extra lengthy week nearly all from the Crown Court.Roifield also salutes the departing editor and in the sense that as editor he has garnered an immense number of column inches this is justified. However some of us feel that there has also been a distortion (possibly a perversion) of our regular drama and this is hard to forgive especially if the new won listeners prove hard to retain in calmer waters. Even Roifield expressed some concern over the sudden jump to a verdict in the trial episode which was simply outrageously foreshortened and again unworthy of the story cycle which was based on "Twelve Angry Men".Usha confusion also reigns over property. Harriet of Shambridges fame sits in with Roifield this week as Lucy is away and in place of the usual summary she provides a wonderful soundalike of various characters having phone sex with Justin. Yes like Lucy, Harriet is highly attuned to the extensive sexual activity now replacing the gaslighting.Roifield credits Smethurst with the affair between Kathy and DS Barry – but this happened some years later under the editorship of Ruth Patterson. It was during this period and subsequently that the balance of the programme changed and the women became dominant and steadily the males in the programme were less well defined and written.Harriet claimed she only had four items to discuss – but later proved she had pages and pages. Roifield asked for discussion points for men’s hour in a couple of weeks and so please send him some. Harriet is bored by cricket and prefers football.Graham Blockey is the alter ego of Robert Snell and is rarely available to the team as he is a GP in Dorking in Surrey which is why he cannot appear regularly. Perhaps when he retires he will appear more often.Harriet also likens TA to the class and social comedy of Jane Austen which Roifield admits that he has never read. If Austen was translated into super heroes then Roifield feels he would understand it. Social observation is a turn on as we all like people watching.The love triangle was Shula, Doc Locke and Alastair Lloyd. Lizzie was happily married to Nigel. Hence the difficulties between Doc Locke and Alastair when both play cricket. By the way it is the same Alastair – he has not been replaced – Michael Lumsden is still responsible according to published lists.I like Harriet as she was very nice about me in the podcast. She also read a report on Alastair’s vet accounts most beautifully. Gemma, a first time caller, decided to express her views on Kate's treatment of Phoebe - so how did your exams go Gemma? Let us know please. Most of us will be surprised if Josh passes anything. Ms Alliance seems far more concerned about her neighbour in Seattle and her en-suite shower than about The Archers! Ms Alliance feels that the referendum might impact the Sterling exit plan to Italy. Andrew Horn laid into the younger characters who are replicating their forebears - Roifield also wants to know why ever more dramatic events are not being covered and are merely reported; could Keri please advise? As all the actors were there somewhere, it was just a bit like peering over a garden wall! Baldrick, sorry Roifield, has a cunning plan which will see the referendum vote over-turned by a general election and a new referendum. Proper acknowledgement is made of the contribution by Alan Devereux as Sid Perks by Roifield and I would add my personal recollection of the first ever Ambridge two hander when Kathy (Hedli Niklaus) challenged him on over the affair with Jolene in the Rovers Bar late one evening, when she was the last person in the village to know. Compelling listening.There is some allegation that this TA week was a bit "bitty" but clearly the team are going round tidying up loose ends and setting up a new shape to the village and covering a lot of stories. This is how The Archers should be done and we should welcome this return almost to form, even if Lynda is perhaps showing some odd traits. The class comparisons were strong this week as Kaz asked if Helen was posh! Much continuing discussion over the relationship between Justin and Lilian by many contributors.Lucy's monologue provided a strong opening and the best bit of the week for me was Susan getting entirely the wrong end of Pat asking her if she could manage some time in the shop. What I did not understand was why an ORGANIC shop should be stocking venison from Home Farm!Kosmo was accused of not sticking to the point. A long week with this Podcast as the events following the murder attempt are dissected in the finest blood soaked detail.In reality not much happened in The Archers this week apart from following the police in action which is not the most humorous activity in the world. By the end of the week the police had detected that Rob had a tracker on Helen's phone (which some had guessed anyway) and not much else and the following had made statements of one description or another that will suit the case for the prosecution: Kirsty, Pat, Ursula, Henry, Susan and no doubt a few others. Roifield and Lucy normally try to avoid events on Sunday evening when they record on a Monday morning but this week the allegedly momentous happenings are covered in forensic detail. So spoilers for this week appear below.Although the sound of the knife dropping to the floor was missed the rest is covered with every bloody fingerprint examined. Well written, well performed and the sound effects team are almost given a Roifield clap. What lets the side down Roifield explains in measured and certain terms is that within The Archers universe this was the wrong ending. As he points out the opportunity to provide a clean and undisputed solution with Helen being permitted to rediscover her inner self and strength in line with her long standing character attributes has been sacrificed for column inches and notoriety. A soap ending when it could have been so much more and achieve better realism than police and the law stamping all over an already down trodden woman.Titian73 uncannily predicts the Sunday events and it could be said that she struck lucky. Many of the other calls get stuck into the events on Sunday as well.Kosmo says "Blossom Hill Cottage stands on a side road off the Borchester Road, not far past Grey Gables". It is pretty rural and well out of the village. Sitting in for Roifield this week is Yokel Bear who hails from a modest Thames Valley town that shall not be named; Jasper Fforde has magnificently recorded the environs and those curious to know more should look online. Another majestic performance from a new presenter. And Lucy seems to welcome changed company in Derek's back bedroom.This was recorded before the thrilling developments on Friday when Rob taught Henry about obedience and so, in line with my usual summary approach, that storyline will not be mentioned again too much. However, Yokel Bear has listened to proceedings this week and is not perhaps quite as upset because the Paul Trueman fundraising mentioned last week (nearly £60k) has brought good out of fictional evil, so redressing the mental harm to listeners.It did not take long before our hosts strayed from The Archers. Yokel Bear had geese or ducks on the railway line and then stayed in a haunted hotel in Taunton, although he did not hear the late piper. Meanwhile Roifield interrupted with an update on a late Witherspoon call plus editing the script on line during the recording. Yokel and Lucy then decided to go up the Wookey Hole together. And Yokel Bear was a kilt wearing bridesmaid at a wedding.Pancake Day was a high point for the week - but Kate's moving house and Lilian giving in far too easily were also covered. Keri Davis was responsible for the week and he has admitted that he likes writing for Rob - but he also hits the right notes with many other characters although the crossover between a mobile eggery and a shepherd's hut has left many confused. Paul set up a "Rescue Helen" fund on Just Giving with the money raised going to Refuge. At the time of writing the fund is close to £50000 in just over a week.Lucy is enjoying Brian at present - particularly when Lilian extended her residence at Home Farm in front of Justin. Brian has not got a leg to stand on and Jenny is exerting her dominance over Brian! Is she abusing him? The entertainment factor was lifted by the return of Kate who has no control of her budget. Lucy admitted to being drugged up - on painkillers and diarolite; just as well as her buns have gone missing.Roifield revealed, at some length, that whilst he was quite taken by most types and modes of music he failed to extract any pleasure from the Metallica concert at the Superbowl (was the game any good?) and retreated to the bar.Jan from Cannes agrees with Kosmo and also highlighted Rob physically manhandling Helen for the first time. Witherspoon wants live streaming of the 100th episode recording. The recording levels mismatch for Henry is pointed - this used to be avoided in the Archers when "Shula" was able to voice the children. Since they commenced using real children they have never managed to get the levels rightly integrated. Currently it undermines belief and they need to rethink it.Yokel Bear turned up to tell us that what happened in Brighton was gambling - because Toby is a gambler pure and simple. Lucy believes that Child Maintenance in Hastings is probably after Toby for money for a child.Thanks to Millie for her round up of happening on the web related to the Archers. Andrew Horn returns as Roifield has headed off to Canada.Andrew Horn caused a heart attack as he repeated comments I had made in another forum about the anaerobic digester and the rest of Berrow Farm - I covered all of this in umra and I agree it was important. Andrew also raised the paternity test - I went back to the recording to prove that Dr Locke had indeed taken the DNA sample. What the programme needs is an archivist who knows what is going on and checks the continuity. There was no "DNA Tester" as credited it WAS Dr Locke.Allan Carr, sorry R Brown, did a first time call in. He liked last week's Archers with three heartwarming couples interacting. The Brian / Jenny conversation was particularly liked. Andrew found David annoying this week for being sulky. For Andrew and / or Lucy's benefit historically Jennifer was a trained teacher well before she became pregnant with Adam - she went to West Midlands Training College in Walsall. It is now part of Birmingham University.Lucy reveals that during the transmission of the programme she constantly tells Rob to "shut up" and also sings the dumteedum when she thinks the final line has been spoken. She did not reveal how often she is right.Marjorie Antrobus was much later than either Doughy or Lester - after Laura Archer had died. She was Ruth's landlady of course, arriving at Nightingale Farm as late as 1985 - 34 years after it all started. The brief was for something much earlier. DTD - Episode 91 - The 65th anniversary

Another bout of exquisite commentary on our favourite radio fly on the wall document as our hosts return from their Christmas break.Following Lucy's entertaining exposition of the events in the last two weeks Roifield provides a diatribe (from Canada) on the content of the anniversary show - all agree the subject matter needed to be covered - but it was the wrong subject for the episode concerned especially given the promotion the episode was given by some mysterious marketing department seeking listeners as so many have been lost by a particular story.The recently published character appearance statistics are discussed and the transition to the next generation is under way with Pip being the second most heard person this year. More of the younger generation need to come to the fore in the next 12 months.Andrew Horn asks for the Kosmo view on the Brookfield changes. Kosmo thinks that spring calving is nonsense because of the spring lambing; birthing both at the same time is going to lead to some very tired and confused people. Kosmo also does not understand why you sell one herd and buy another - just change the dates you get the cows in the family way (next year Ruth can do it herself). Buying and selling cows and losing the hard won genetic traits (as well as a farmer's natural feeling for his herd) is a complete nonsense says a farmer's son. Sorry Ruth you really have not thought this one through, particularly if Pip goes travelling which all children do these days.The old character must be Arthur "Doughy" Hood, played by Arnold Ridley, who departed in the early sixties; he was a baker and sold out to Juniper Bakeries. Lucy has reached the point where she has disassociated herself from the entire Rob and Helen storyline. It has been dragged out for far too long in atrocious detail and consequently like the flood has completely unbalanced the entire docudrama and the remaining village inhabitants are not getting a fair share of the microphones. As a result the Fairbrethern end up being treated like Pinky and Perky (or Sesame Street) thinly drawn characters compared with the Dostoevsky-like excellence contained in the abuse story.And Lucy is equally upset at the poor treatment handed out to Joe - the real world does not work like that. Historically stories would usually be well researched and managed by the team via the editor - but currently there are so many loose ends a lot does not make sense. This theme recurred in a number of calls.Jim discovered that the flood assessments for Route B used the wrong hydraulic model in the light of the flood and therefore the assessment needed to be done again correctly. A generic model was used rather than one specific to the locale.Roifield complained about not getting a word in edgeways as Lucy sailed through the calls but our hosts were able to confirm that the Archers Archivist has been pensioned off - hence underlying continuity being a complete mess. Discussion revealed an Archers event in Bristol which indicated that Rob and Helen may well continue into 2016 despite earlier thoughts it would finish at Christmas. The writing team have once again been unable to cope with the balance needed by different stories - too much weight given to abuse of Helen whilst the Grundy homelessness has been given short shrift. This happened before when Adam was kidnapped and other stories were neutered.Roifield sought calendar contributions of suitably arranged, tasteful, photographs with any funds from the calendar raised going to Refuge. Lucy offered Christmas cards signed by either Derek in the back bedroom or Sabrina Thwaite after proof of a donation to Refuge.Absences and staying in touch. Soon after completing this summary I shall be heading off to India again (Aus/NZ are next year). Blog posts should appear - so read those if you want to know what I am doing. Ruth can do the same for her two weeks - so Usha should read those!Housing problems in Ambridge confounded our commentators - no room for the Grundies whilst Kirsty is given a room at the drop of a hat.Sean called in - not for the first time. His suggestion that Rob would want the termination of a female baby was instantly the subject of cold water from a great height.Yokel Bear reckoned that Pip has grown up too quickly - but has forgotten that for a long period she has been absent at university and so we have not heard her growing up - the stroppy teenager was some years ago when she was seeing Jude. The new voice has perhaps added to the sense of change in Pip.The "Lady in the Van" was discussed and my view is that the film was a far better format to convey the entire story than the stage play I saw many years ago. I think having one person play both Alan Bennetts worked extremely well. DumTeeDum opened with a recording from the DTD get together at the weekend where many podcast listeners gathered and both Lucy and Roifield recalled various encounters and non-encounters during the evening. Apparently even some lurkers were outed - and must now call in.Ruth's constant moaning is getting everyone down - especially the way that Jill is being used by the family - at 85! Lucy attributes it to misguided guilt - but I reckon it is just mis-use of the character. Yes Ruth deserves some sympathy - but she needs to get involved and talk to David - it works both ways. Comparisons of Ruth's behaviour to Rob are also growing, particularly over her lack of loyalty to David.Speakpipe is working again. Lucy thanked all the DumTeeDummers for their excellent online behaviour - all the best listeners are here. And it appears that they are all extremely glamorous as well - just as well I was not there! “Don’t cry for me” said the plants as Jane Perrone the horticultural editor of the Guardian joined our hosts this week; so it is a highly organic and very educational podcast with mentions of the restorative powers of dettol and sugar solutions, mince pies (team Roifield on this one), stollen, urine and compost heaps.

Roifield has decking in his back garden whilst Lucy admitted to a very large bush. Jane advises that there may be rats living under the decking so removing it needs the attention of her lurcher. Jane reckons The Archers team generally get gardening matters right; she has been listening for the last 15 years and it is now her little daily treat and then she mentioned many other podcasts.

Jane predicts that the Titchenor story will explode at Christmas and she supports the existence of some villainy in the village but she does feel that having a baby is often not well portrayed on the programme. There seems to be some circumstantial evidence that Helen may not actually be pregnant – even though she has done two tests. The doctor did not do a test.

There is a groundswell growing for Rex, although less so for Toby, but it does seem they may be around for the long term and the cooperation between the Grundy boys was noted. Everyone was hugely pleased to hear Jazzer back, especially in his double act with Jim. Lucy highlighted Joe’s comments on Rob’s faux behaviour as a member of the landed gentry as she and Joe are as one in their recognition of class differences.

Millie Belle had a full update of online activities with a lot of positive comments about developments including Jim and Jazzer whilst Yorkshire Tea was discussed at length. Millie herself gets deliveries of tea direct from Sri Lanka – another place that I have enjoyed visiting.

Roifield and Lucy were joined by Sarah Douglas “Duggers” this week. Kenton’s damp nether regions were re-examined and they also made it into tweet of the week. Duggers loves the Rob storylines and regards him as her favourite character, although no-one (especially Blithe Spirit) understands the current lack of calves or Jazzer. (Roifield – “Les Revenants” is well worth watching and rarely makes sense). Maeve is better and back with us. Lucy gave voice to the way she derives pleasure from TA, Tilling and Blandings, whilst Roifield enjoys particular graphic comic book depiction of Super heroes.

Dealing with aged parents is not easy – we struggled over long periods and therefore I would offer much sympathy to Ruth over Heatherpet; I am less certain that it is a plot device and more an attempt to reflect the real difficulties which can be encountered.

Jo Jo Sexy Heels is back as well – she anticipates that Hazel will shut the shop (as does Huckleberry Jim) – I would add the prediction that the Grundies and the Perks will also be homeless.

Lucy was drinking an IPA whilst Roifield was on the Camp Coffee as usual. Conversely, Millie found that no-one on Facebook would raise a glass to celebrate the recent wedding. There was much gossip about Susan in the same place!

The new website forum sounds well worth investigating and the shop is being relocated so that there will be tea towels!
