Summary
In this episode, I am joined by my friend Peace. We discuss the topic of Parenting and Psychology. Peace went to school for psychology and has a passion for understanding the mind and behaviors. She is the perfect person for this topic because I watched her understand my children's behavior once during a playdate in a gentle, intentional and effective way.
We discuss starting our families (baby fever), labor and delivery, and speak in great detail about labor pain. Fun fact: we would like to thank Fidel Pages, a Spanish military surgeon, who in 1921 first used the epidural. "Epidural anaesthesia causes a loss of sensation, including pain, by blocking the transmission of signals through nerve fibres in or near the spinal cord." We discuss how much we loved our epidural experiences.
*Trigger Warning: PTSD from childbirth, Peace shares in detail how shocked she was over the pain of labor. https://womensmentalhealth.org/posts/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd-following-childbirth/
We also discuss childhoods, through the lens of psychology. We share how the first 5 years build our subconscious beliefs. Also, how kids' behavior is consistent and the importance of mutual respect and communication in parenting.
We also discuss the wise lesson that reality will never exactly match expectations.
I hope you enjoy!
