Dave Gutter

73 min • 13 september 2021

This week on Plus One, Kraz chats with his friend Dave Gutter, best known from the band Rustic Overtones. Dave and Kraz have recorded, written, and produced together many times, including co-producing Aaron Neville's Apache album, as well as Eric's own Blood From A Stone. The pair also discuss Dave's punk roots, how Rustic Overtones managed to land a record deal with Arista records, and an hilarious evening which affected Dave's guitar playing from that night forward.

Dave Gutter is a singer, songwriter, composer, and performer from Portland, Maine. Gutter has been hailed as one of the most perceptive and enigmatic lyricists of his time, and he’s best known for his work as frontman of indie rock groups Rustic Overtones, Armies, and Paranoid Social Club. Rustic Overtones are a seven-piece rock band with an extensive discography that includes 8 studio albums since 1995. The band's unique take on indie rock is heavily inspired by soul music, garage punk, jazz, and psychedelic music of the 60's and 70's, and Rolling Stone has called their style "a unique sound steeped in both Earth, Wind and Fire-style funk and late-era Beatles psychedelia.
