Weekly podcast focused on Warhammer 40k. We have tournament tips, Warhammer 40k codex reviews, vendor spotlights, community highlight segments and Black Library author interviews.

Oh happy day! We got our hands on the new Blood Angels Codex and it’s amazing. We jump out of the gate talking briefly about the not so great and then dive into the sweet sweet goodness that is the rest of the book. It’s different but is it more powerful? Is it the most powerful we’ve ever been?
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.
We also started a Patreon for the FTN show. This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things. If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.
I am loving the new Blood Angels book. There are three compelling detachments where you can make a case for most of your collection (the part of your collection that survived the cuts).
I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!
The Sanguinary Guard are going to make their way back on to the table top for sure. Different weapon options but the same battlefield role and they absolutely do it better than they used to with a 4+ invulnerable save.
The Red, Black and the Gold are ways you can sort of define the detachments in your head. Mephiston is back and in full glory almost back to the way he was in 5th edition. BA fans should ultimately love this book but it doesn’t come without some suffering. Sort of like the BA are used to, ha!

We run down the heavy hitting characters from the Imperial Agents book. In the middle of the show Paul is joined by a special guest to talk about Warcry. After that we’re back to talking 40k and close out the show talking about the Imperial Assassins and our initial thoughts on the Blood Angel models on the Warhammer Community site.

Following the show from last week we come back to the Imperial Agents main characters – the Inquisitors and the Assassins. A couple of these will be absolute mainstays in army lists. I think the Eversor is a particular stand out but we try to give them all their due in this episode.
I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!
In the middle of the show my good buddy Tim joins us to talk about a passion of his – Warcry. If you like the Age of Sigmar setting and looking to ‘toe into it’ this is a good way to do it. Lots of dynamic play, not a lot of models, and the games go pretty quick.
In the half we talk about our time at Gen Con. Enjoy!

Allies are a tricky subject for a lot of players – this new book will break the doors open on what is possible for Imperial Forces but also brings a whole new Imperial dimension in and of itself. There is some powerful stuff in this dex but is it on the right frame? We dive into the detachments.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We mostly tackle the new Detachments from the upcoming Imperial Agents Codex. There is some really nice stuff in there. There are overlapping rules that incentivize you to take the detachment and the corresponding units assigned to it but there are also very powerful abilities on the units themselves. We talk about the tricks and Stratagems available to each Detachment and the Detachment special rule.
I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!
Red says his favorite is the Imperialis Fleet. I think my favorite is the Purgation Force. This codex borrows from some other factions to ‘hang it all together’ and seems like a nice way to include these models in your collection even if you don’t want to flesh out a full 2000 point force.
In the half we talk about our time at Gen Con. Enjoy!

The Adepta Sororitas come within inches of winning the Games Workshop US Open Series event in Tacoma. This army is a powerhouse. Is it the new Aeldari? Time will tell but in the hands of a great general – can it be stopped?

Two back to back episodes this week for your listening pleasure. The whole crew is in the house. Red and Paul got the hang out in person this past weekend in Tacoma and it was amazing. We talk about that.
I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store! Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!
A large part of the show is talking about how movement wins games but specifically in relation to knowing a finesse army like the back of your hand. It was amazing to see the power of the Adeptus Sororitas army and the absolute precise movement in every phase of the game. Peak Warhammer under the watchful eye of Mt Rainer.
In part 2 we continue to break down some of the meta and what was winning in attendance in Tacoma as well as what we’re seeing around the world over on the Warhammer Meta Chasers show.

So sorry for the delay here. I traveled to Tacoma for the US Open series and the time zone change and long days put a crimp in that. Thanks a lot for the patience!

We talk about the team’s performance at the ATC a couple of weekends ago. This event is fabulous and I highly recommend going if you can. We finished in the middle of the pack and that doesn’t bother me a bit. We had a blast and got to play some amazing folks.
In part 2 we talk about the pairing process.

We kick things off with a talk about getting ready for the NATC – 8 player event – team tournaments. We love them.. But they aren’t easy. In the middle of the show Paul sits down with Jason of RealmSmith to talk about some other nerd stuff- D&D.

Our team has had some significant challenges getting ready for this event. We’ve powered through it to get the team to the event and now we’re in the thick of it. We talk a little bit about that journey.
In the middle of the show Paul and Jason Azevedo from RealmSmith talk about how he got started, living in multiple game worlds and basically just chat.
In the back part of the show we talk a little bit more about AoS and how we are liking it and looking forward to more. It’s a mixed bag this episode!

We open the show talking about the impact of the new 40k changes this week – Are we really in a 10.5 environment? In part 2 of the show we dive into the Age of Sigmar factions and how Spearhead works.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

The game is changed significantly and a lot of folks out there are signaling they think this is almost a revised edition. What do you think?
In part 2 of the show we discuss the new Age of Sigmar. Games Workshop was nice enough to send up copies of the faction rules and game rules, complementary #adwip #aos.
There is a LOT to unpack but it all looks incredibly fun. Tons of quality of life improvements and it seems like the factions have a real feel to them you would expect going all the way to the root and seeds of every single model and unit. Amazing.

The game is about to open up all over again. We crack open the new Pariah Nexus mission deck and discuss some of the new and biggest changes. New Deployment types, new missions, gambits are gone… Secret Missions are here.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

Do you flip mission cards or do you dictate what you play? No way is the wrong way.. I’m just curious.
These missions, both primary and secondaries, seem real sharp to us. It seems almost like the next evolution of what can be done with missions. Its not just about standing in someplace on the battle field or removing a unit. It feels similar to the current mission set – where lots of armies can stay in contention. Playing these missions might be a little bit of an adjustment to army lists. Some of the new fixed objectives, if you choose to take them, are going to be a slobber knocker for some current list templates.
Later in the episode we talk about some stuff we’ve been up to recently and some future events/projects as well.

We believe Chaos Space Marines will hit the meta hard next week as the new codex makes it’s way into standard play. In this episode we focus a lot on the Daemonic Techno stuff in the book as we think this will be a stand out choice for a lot of players. Later in the episode we give our first impressions of the new Sigmar edition and Spearhead coming out soon from what we saw in Dallas.

People won’t be able to get enough Chaos in their lives soon. Watch out! Just like the Orks there is a ton of good stuff in this book and people will be drawn to it like a moth to flame. The alluring pull of Chaos…
We talk a bit about one of the new detachments and some of the units you might want to include if you’re leaning that direction. Even if you’re not looking to land on something specific as a go to we talk about how Warp Talons go well in just about anything.
Later in the episode we give our first takes on all the New Age of Sigmar stuff that got leaked over the last weekend from the Spearhead events in Warhammer World and the Dallas Open.

Chaos Space Marines go up for pre-order today and this will make a lot of fans extremely happy. This codex has something for everyone and delivers power no matter how you want to use your collection. We go into the myriad of detachments in this Codex. If you love CSM you don’t want to miss this.

Just like their loyalist cousins this book has a TON of detachments that look kinda like the legions you may know and love if you squint just right. The format makes it very clear that you are now meant to use the models and units however you want and not be shackled by a mere color scheme.
I love this aspect of this edition. Do you love Iron Warriors but want to play them like Word Bearers? Go for it.
The Sneaky and Tough detachments in this book are instant go-tos for me. Each one of these are packed with tricks and stuff that just ‘works’ right now in 40k. Love it!

The Orks are back and will be an absolute staple of the table. From the most casual to the most competitive, this book has you covered. We talk a little about our favorite detachments but every where you look in this Codex there is something fun and powerful to play. Custodes… They might need some help.

Wow. The Waaagh is gonna be super strong again. A detachment can do it TWICE. It only effects a handful of units but it is exactly the units you want it on so is that really a drawback? I don’t think so.
Nobs and Meganobs can be beefed up with some amazing character support It will be hard what to choose to stick with them. Gaz might be incredibly popular as well but it is kind of cool to say that he doesn’t seem like an auto include. What that says to me is that the replayabilty of this book for the list brewmaster is off the charts.
The Dreadmob is a favorite way to play with a lot of Warbosses. This is also back in a big way. If you like big pressure lists it might be a toss up between this one and the Beast Snaggas. Ork generals have TONS of options. We didn’t mention this in the show but Defkoptas can dish out a major amount of Mortal Wounds. Watch out!

A shorter episode this week. We talk about the Gladiator Variants and what is happening out there with the Space Marine meta at the moment. The Space Marines have a brutal list that is offering up a pretty good counterpoint to the mid board domination meta. Have you come across it yet?

Space Marines are definitely back. We are seeing a LOT of Ironstorm and merged with Black Templar of all things. In this episode I mis-say Iron Warriors when I mean Iron Hands approximately 97 times. Please forgive me.
If you’ve been sitting on Gladiator Tanks your time is now! These things are crazy good right now when paired with a Tech Marine in the right detachment. We run down the virtues of the three variants both as informational if you want to play with these and as a warning if you plan to face them.
Do not underestimate these tanks!

It is just Red and Paul this episode while the other folks are traveling and recuperating. Now that the Siege of Terra is over and done we kinda ask ourselves – What happens now?
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

The Siege of Terra end is going to leave a lot of people wondering what to do next. I’ve got an Audible subscription now. What am I supposed to do with my life? ha! The answer is something along the lines of maybe taking a breath, chilling a bit and then moving on to another series.
We have ADB’s Black Legion books as well. These came out a few years ago and are phenomenal. It gives you a look at Abbaddon right after then whole shebang went down and as he is starting to take command of the Chaos Space Marines.
In this episode Paul also gives an Adepticon recap. It was another stellar event and I will definitely be back next year. The Adpeticon folks continue to deliver a must do experience year after year.

This is the nicest army release box for this edition to date. It comes with some amazing models, the data cards and host of brand new figures. We also get a first look at the Tau Codex. Will they have what it takes to jump into the meta mix?

GW was kind enough to send us a box to review. There are some big changes here and you know people don’t like a lot of change right? Crisis Suits get an overhaul but they do get some cool new rules. Are more rules what is needed to offset the weapon options that used to appear in units? That utility is gone but not forgotten. Tau players will need to find it in other areas. They just might be able to though…
The close combat might of the Tau is gonna be… well, it’s gonna be possible but I’m not sure how mighty it is yet. One thing we do know for sure is that the Tau will be able to push a LOT of models to the middle of the table before the game even starts for real for not a lot of points. A ton of the game is played in the first couple of rounds and the Tau kind of have some tricks to totally lock the mid board objectives down while potentially threatening the entire table.
We also talk about the new Kroot Hunting Pack. These models are amazing. This box will certainly sell out so make sure and get the pre-orders in ASAP.

Guard players are out there, for sure, we know that. but the win percentage has been down as a whole for the faction. There are lots of reasons why that might be the case. We talk about how to up those numbers a bit.

Astra Militarum are tricky. There are TONs of unit options for them so it is easy to make a less than optimal army list when you don’t know who your games are going to be against. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, all the top lists are pretty awesome at taking out everything in the Guard book. Soooo.. a lot of Guard players have been struggling.
Some of those top contenders have been taken down a peg. The living breathing ecosystem that is the meta has changed and many things that used to prey on the Guard don’t work the same anymore. Does that open the door to more guard players making it deeper into tournaments undefeated? Maybe… just maybe.
It will still come down to player skill and list design. Thankfully the missions are set in stone right now at most events. You know what you’re going to have to do to win games, but it is up to you to actually make it happen. Guard are far from an auto-win faction. We inject some food for thought on the subject and hope you have some ideas of your own.

The Dark Angels are an ancient and venerable Chapter. Counted 1st among their brothers. Shrouded in mystery. Storied and proud. We give some insight on where to get started with this army if you are brand new to it or just coming back after a long stint hiding in the Rock.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

The Dark Angels codex has some folks left with mixed feelings. Some units feel into the pit of legends. There are some new units with some cool rules and then there are a few new detachments that don’t seem to be blowing people out of their seats. But isn’t that ok? I mean.. Space Marines books in the past have mostly been about synergies and combos. Allowing players to mix and match units to give certain effects or challenges to their opponents on the table top. We don’t dig too deep into that part just yet but more keep it surface level, at where to start with an army list.
I believe there is a lot of opportunity in the Dark Angels codex to build around Leader models. More so than what we’ve seen with the other books thus far as these characters aren’t just sacks of stats but they are also personalities that people have affinity for, things that brought people to the army in the first place.
If you like one of the ‘Wings’ in the lore, great… You’re back in business with this book but a lot of the first born flavor has sadly been relegated to the legends category. I think that may hold people back with a little nostalgia burn but once they get past that… Maybe there is some sweetness there that people haven’t found yet. Any time you have a book come out that leaves some legacy in the dust it seems to take people a while to find the new best stuff.

This Balance Dataslate changes a lot. Tons of points updated, some keyword changes, some out right new editions to factions and some subtle clarifications. This update has it all. A couple of factions are untouched… It wasn’t just about knocking the top off the heap. It seems like we are closer and closer to actual balance and proactively managing the game.

Daemons and Drukari might be the biggest winners out of all of this but that will remain to be seen over the next few weeks as these changes make their way out to the bigger tournaments. Daemons will take a knock back from just being allies but might see play as a single faction again as a TON of their units see point reductions.
Custodes undoubtedly took too much of a hit after their success after the edition drop. Now.. maybe they come back. Point alignments in a pretty big way with this faction.
Marines… its tough when Marines are good. Sometimes they are too good and with the sheer variety of units it seems clear that the game would like there to be fewer ‘easy choices’ and a good way to change that efficiency score is to mess with points. Marine lists will change and we might see those multiple Gladiator lists start to creep up to replace what’s out there now per-dataslate.

I had the fabulous opportunity to stream the Age of Sigmar tournament on the Games Workshop Twitch channel. As a result I got to witness some absolutely top level Age of Sigmar play and got to hang out with one of the best communities in gaming.

Wow. Sigmar is thriving and this past weekend witnessed the largest Sigmar tournament to date with almost 400 players from all over the globe. For some it was a way to close out the ITC season and for others it was the first opportunity in 2024 to try and nab a spot in the World Championships of Warhammer.
We recap the event and sing the virtues of the competitors and the community. The entire group brings such enthusiasm to the event. It is no wonder why that event is growing every year. The entire stream team had an amazing time.
It didn’t seem like a surprise to people but there were two Cities of Sigmar players in the finals. It is the most recent book but I don’t think that explains their success. They were phenomenal players. The game came down to tiebreakers. Neither player had much left on the table and it was a joy to watch.

Now that folks have seen the rules and have an idea what to expect from the Old World. How do you make those large rank and file units without breaking the bank? We talk a little bit about that and continue to muse on things to come with the New/Old Game.

There are some amazing tutorials out there on how to make unit fillers for your rank and file games. These are sometimes huge time and money savers as they all you to cut down on the number of specific models you need to complete ranks for those sweet sweet rank bonuses.
After the break we talk a little bit about what it takes to make a ‘good’ 40k army as well. There is so much talk out there on what people are hoping and waiting for from a Balance Data slate that I think some people have taken their eye off of the basics.
At this point we all know what the mission cards require us to do. We need to have units in our list that are capable of that. These are the ‘new’ building blocks of 40k. TONS of games are being played out there and the ones that are doing the best have a lot of list in their list… if you know what I mean. Actually, you don’t have to guess, you just have to listen to this show. ha!

New Year, Old World. See what I did there? We dive into the Old World rules and talk a little about what is old and what is new. The game feels very much the same but there are some big differences. Is it better? You decide!

The Old World rules feel a lot like the old editions of Fantasy Battles but it’s not all the same. It feels like there are honest quality of life improvements in the system but it maintains feel and nostalgia of the rank and flank game we knew and loved.
Knew and Loved? Has time passed enough to where this feels cool again? Will it draw in players from yesteryear or possibly just draw folks away from Age of Sigmar? It’s a different enough game where players will likely play both.
There is a lot of talk out there about the Legacy factions and will you or won’t you be able to play them at events. We don’t talk about that here but we certainly will on future episodes. For now… I think people will really enjoy getting their hands on a freshened up rules set with familiar mechanics All the models are fantastic. Bring on the SQUARE BASES!

I apologize that this episode is a little later coming than I expected but I was doing my annual binge of the entire extended cuts of Lord of the Rings. It just ended.. ha!
We talk about the Necrons and Ad Mech this episode.
The Necrons seem to be doing a little better than the Ad Mech right out of the gate but I honestly think that has more to do with the fact people we ‘ready to go’ with the Necrons more than the Ad Mech players have been. Ad Mech hasn’t been doing a lot of work for the last edition and half or so. Will that change?

We break down the ins and outs of the brand new game Legions Imperialis. Its fun, back and forth action with a whole new line of models.. plus some that have been out a while that you can bring in from other games. The rulebook has everything you need to know to get going in just one purchase.
Hey folks,

We gush a little bit about the new game from Games Workshop. It’s an interesting new take on a venerable classic. Space Marine Epic came out a long time ago and was one of my first purchases with my own dollars in the hobby. That games brought in lots of factions and maybe we’ll see them one day but Legions Imperialis takes place in the Horus Heresy timeline with just Space Marine legions and Solar Auxliera at the moment.
With that said, you still have TONS of options and different ways to build your fighting force based. You can even bring in flyers from Aeronautic and Titans from Titanicus. Wow. Pretty neat to be able to do that and the rules seem to be pretty streamlined to expand as you grow with the game.
We gush on about the new rules and the possibilities. In the middle of the show we sit down with our main vendor sponsor for the show to talk about what’s going on with his show and how you can save on the new action. We also talk about why you might want to hit him up for pre-orders in the future.

Paul had the privilege of going to PAX Unplugged this past weekend to demo games of 40k Combat Patrol and got to meet a TON of new players/hobbyist. PAX is definitely growing and one of the biggest draws of the entire convention was Games Workshop’s paint and take activity. SOOOOOOOO much painting done by people brand new to miniatures over the weekend.

Paul had the opportunity to teach 40k to a ton of new people over the weekend. Hundreds… it was amazing. People who might have been familiar with rolling dice or using figures for another game like D&D or something but not too many of them had done any wargaming in the past. It was so cool to see their eyes light up when models started getting destroyed or they would land a successful charge.
Pew Pew and Crunch noises were definitely made by one and all. Some folks just wanted to see what it was all about and it was clear that some folks were looking for an excuse to dive right in.
A lot of folks that came by the booth did so after swinging by the Paint and Take hobby area GW had set up in the middle of the convention floor. This allowed new people to take their first shot at painting an Infernus Marine using contrast and layer paints. It was pretty amazing to see their faces light up when they held something in their hands they could be proud of. A big percentage of the people blew past the examples given to them to create something truly unique to their vision.

We give a broad rundown of the Warhammer World Championships and Grand Narrative Event that happened last weekend in Atlanta, GA USA. It was amazing. Some of the best 40k ever to be played by some of the best players of all time in a competition setting. On the other side of the doors were hundreds of 40k players having the time of their lives in the Grand Narrative. A true event to behold.

Paul and Adam were on the mics live streaming the whole weekend while Red and his fam were playing in the Grand Narrative. We run down our experiences this episode. You owe it to yourself to put this event on your bucket list.
We definitely expected Chaos Space Marines to do well but it was difficult to call them out as the winner. There were top tier players piloting almost every faction in the game over the weekend. Leagues of Votann came out of obscurity, Aeldari almost kept their top spot, Space Marines came in second with Marnues Calgar of all people in the list!
A Hoard style CSM list took it down in the end by being able to choke the primary and causing bad trades with their Space Marine opponent. That is the extreme high level take. The games played on stream were spectacular and you should check them out over on the Warhammer twitch feed.

A bit of a short episode this week as we get ready for the World Championship of Warhammer and the Grand Narrative in Atlanta GA. Players from all over the world will be coming to play for their country’s glory or to be enshrined in the lore of Warhammer 40,000. It will be amazing.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We talk a lot about what to expect from the Grand Narrative based on what we think will happen this year and from last year’s incredible event.
The back part of the show is all about hobby stuff. This comes up for us as we get ready for events too. It’s cool how this stuff goes hand in hand.
We’ll be back to the normal format for the show after we return from ATL and get back to it leading into the holiday season. Stay tuned!

Assault is dead, Long Live Assault! There was an overwhelming amount of shooting in the game just after the edition launched. Has that changed? If it hasn’t changed for you, maybe you haven’t seen what’s coming from Space Marines, World Eaters and the like. We think it’s back, baby.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

In the last episode we talked about how World Eaters took second in other episodes how terrain can be such a factor. At more and more events we’re seeing them with better terrain layouts and more variety being an option for what generals can take. With the release of the Space Marine book the doors are blown wide off. We talk just a little bit about using them as Blood Angels but they are by no means limited to that path.
There are at least two, and arguably three, detachments that breath a ton of life into assault based armies. They give them tricks we haven’t seen since the edition flip and players are start to turn on to them. Advance and charge, reliable hitting and wounding in any phase of the game, etc.
We are seeing assault armies like World Eaters and Space Marine variants get a ton of support from Character/Leader models that quite literally give them the juice to get across the table and maximize contact with the opponent. We hope this is a thing that persists through the codex releases.

A phenomenal general took gold at the Games Workshop US Open event in Tampa last week with amazing play and doing it with none other than the Sisters of Battle, Adeptus Sororitas. No one would have expected this. We break down the top two lists.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

Wow. World Eaters being 2nd place in the edition where everyone says assault is dead blows my mind. This speaks to the pilot of the list, of course, but also to the fact that there is plenty left to uncover in the early days of 10th.
Jeffery K taking the top spot with an army that EVERYONE seems to have counted out is spectacular. He took his collection to the big show and came out with the gold. I hope I get to see him in Atlanta.
When we talk about solid play making up for some list efficiencies this is what we mean. The balance dataslate did a lot to level the playing field and now we’re seeing what players can do with it. Still.. I don’t think anyone would have predicted these two army lists topping the charts without being familiar with the players. Congrats to Jeffery and Jack, well earned and well fought.

We have the new Space Marine Codex in hand and it’s awesome! This codex delivers on form and function. The detachments within let you build out any Space Marine chapter you know and love but does not really force or even imply you need them painted a certain color. What do you think about that?
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

There is no doubt that this is a must have for any Space Marine player. More than just the detachments letting you mimic Space Marine chapters you know and love you have a lot of options when it comes to using your own personal collection.
We talk about a couple of the stand out units like the Company Heroes and Aggressors making their way up to one of the top units. We think this codex with breath a lot of life into the collections some Space Marine players have 100%.

Many apologies all. I went on vacation last week and got backed up with the podcast duties. We will have another episode coming right after this one this week. Please forgive us!
This episode is a lot shorter than normal but we’ll be back to the normal length for the next one.

The balance dataslate dropped last week with huge quality of life improvements on both sides of the table. What does this mean to you? I know a lot of players found themselves with a couple of hundred points to spare. Some other players.. Not so much.

Aeldari definitely take a bit of a hit in this dataslate with point increases and changes to devastating wounds. The dev wounds thing is still hugely powerful against vehicles and large models but how hoards are a little more insulated from the effect. The point changes will no doubt cause some generals to have re-think about their lists but we theorize the night spinners and fire prisms will still make it into lists but we might see a fewer Warp Spiders and Shadow Specters.
Several units saw their sizes messed with. This can be an increase or decrease. Balance comes in many forms…
Armies like Death Guard are getting a whole new lease on life but is it enough? We don’t really cover the nuances of Death Guard on the show but you can expect that and some army lists for several factions coming next week!

How much can the first codex of the new edition tell us about where the game is going? I think we need more data. The Tyranids book brings us a lot of detachments, new units and new abilities. It stacks up really well against a lot of what we see out there in the field right now. Triple Norn Emissaries might be a real thing.

We cover the new units currently up for preorder and spend a lot time on the Emissary itself. It’s pretty nice with the ability to shrug off damage and put a lot of OC right where you want it.
We don’t get too much into the strategy of Tyranids with this show but we do ooh and ahh over some cool abilities and what sort of power opponents might expect to see right out of the game.
OC and Battleshock are becoming more and more of a thing as the game develops. I like to see this. A meaningful morale mechanic and units being able to compete for points is an excellent additional layer or two of balance.

The Hobby segment is about how to paint Tyranids for folks not experienced with the faction. Paul went with a Leviathan like scene. Primed Grey Seer, heavy drybrushed White Scar all over, applied a very thin downed Vulpous Pink to the body, then purple for the hard exoskeleton bits. For the Claws, Rhinox Hide based, shaded with thin downed Basilicum Grey, highlighted with Doom Bull Brown then a final highlight of Deathclaw Brown. We are re back! All of us can feel that sinking feeling when we line up against Aeldari but never fear. There is hope! Terrain, Tactics, Good Luck, Good Draws, it can all help. The faction is tough but it is far from unbeatable. We talk about some of the things that’s been working for us.

We welcome Adam back from commenting on the WTC that recently happened in Europe. We kick the show off talking about an Astra Militarum list Paul took recently. The list preformed really well. It had a Tank Commander with a Demolisher cannon, 2 Wyverns, 2 Manticores, 2 Earth Shaker Carriges, 3 scout sentinels and 3 Hell Hounds. It sort of seemed weird not taking Lord Mecharius but Ursla was all this list needed to rock the house.
We discuss the finer points of things to consider when forming your anti Aeldari strategy. We certainly aren’t singling Aeldari players out by any stretch but they are the most winning faction in the field right now and a lot of players are flocking to them if they weren’t players of the faction before. Aeldari are awesome, I love the faction as well. Its just a nice opportunity to take a deeper look at what ‘can be done.’
In part 2 we talk about Yncarne management. Wowzers, this model can create quite the problem for some players.

We are re back! Red, Tanya and Paul jibber jabber about recent tournaments, Ork lists and base sizes. Tanya pulled down best painted, player’s choice, at an event recently and Paul is back from the ATC and GenCon.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year. It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

Tanya opens the show talking about her recent tournament experience. She took her an amazingly painted army out for a spin. The list was unconventional but she got a few wins and brought home some hardware.
Paul and the Wrong Way Kids had a blast at the most recent ATC but they didn’t do near as well as she did… ha. That’s ok. The event was extremely fun and it’s exciting to play as part of a team. You win and lose as a group. Spending time with your best buds playing 40k is a great way to spend a weekend away.
We do talk about base sizes and how these types of things are becoming more and more of how to play the game in an expected way against opponents. In home games you can make a lot of allowances and all that but when you travel and play against people you might not know the ‘social contract’ and tournament rules/restrictions matter a lot.

We are re back! Season 2 is in motion and we hear from Red and his recap of going 5-1 with World Eaters of all things at the LSO the weekend before. We talk a little bit about the America Team Championship as well. That event was last weekend but we recorded this before and it’s a bit of a lead up.

Aeldari continue to dominate the win rates and tournament wins week after week. I am actually cool with factions and lists being powerful but is this too much? If you could tweak anything about the Aeldari and how they work now what would you choose? Fate Dice certainly seem to be a culprit.

Aeldari and Genestealer cults will be what everyone else is talking about – with good reason – they are incredibly strong right now. On this show… we talk about other stuff, ha! We are sharing our initial thoughts as we get our first games in and start to settle into army lists we like. Over the last couple of days my Knights have been absolutely annihilated by Aeldari…

It’s just Paul and Adam this week. We use the time to talk about Towering in the back half of the show and just what an impact the big toys are making on the game right now. Is this too much or just something we need to adjust to as the edition matures?
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary.
We have seen a few tournament results from the first few events in 10th and wow… Knights and Wraith Knights are making a big impact. Maybe it’s Fate Dice. Maybe its Towering. Maybe it is just folks getting used to the new rules set. Right now everyone is familiar enough with the game but there are still a few little twists and turns that work differently than they used to.
We welcome some new patrons on our brand new Patreon and it is amazing to see folks be a part of the show and help it keep going.

Revenge of the 5th Vacation episode. This new edition of Warhammer is shaping up to be really nice. We are seeing Games Workshop’s vision for how they want to layer the game between the base game that comes in the box and the organized play events.

Everyone is sort of waiting on the ‘day one FAQ’ but do we honestly need that sort of thing? We’ve gotten several games in with the new rules and once you look at the core game and then merge it with the Leviathan Mission leaflet that comes with the box set you’re set up for a ton of fun games with a LOT replay-ability. I got the chance to demo a ton of games over the course of the last weekend and the game was extremely easy to explain and potential new players were rolling dice almost immediately.
We welcome some new patrons on our brand new Patreon and it is amazing to see folks be a part of the show and help it keep going.

Vacation Episode Episode IV a new hope for 40k. We run down the new Stratagems with the full crew. We’re all very excited for what the new 40k brings and can’t wait to get models on the table. We’ve played a few games with what we know so far and it’s fun!

I kinda feel like Grenades is meant to replace a unit’s shooting attack and we don’t mention that in the show because it doesn’t say that in the book. It’s hard for us to determine the intent with no sort of FAQ or commentary at the time of recording but hey.. we just read it like we read it. In the right situation this seems strong.

Its been a bit and I had to remember how to do this. Ha! Thanks for your patience with us while we’re on vacation. In this episode we talk a little bit about the 10th edition confirmations we’ve had on the Warhammer Community site and a wonderful interview with the legendary Dan Abnett.

The floodgates are open for what we’re seeing come through for 10th. We don’t know ‘when’ or ‘how’ but we are definitely starting to get excited for the next edition of Warhammr 40,000.
In this episode we gush over the Dante and Lion releases. These models are gorgeous.
In the middle of the episode Paul sits down with Dan Abnett to talk a bit about Marvel comics and his work on the most recent release from the Siege of Terra series. As always, Dan’s excitement for the stories comes beaming through. We hope you enjoy it!

Wow. A decade of talking about Warhammer to the internet. The support, love and high fives from folks all around the world means so much. Thanks so much to all the listeners new and old. We talk about vacation on this episode…

Believe me when I say this is not goodbye. We love what we do and the team is anxious to get into season 2 of the FTN show but we are going to take a short break. Vacation time… We’re already planning the vacation vlogs or whatever we end up calling them. It might be paint and chats or silly live streams or something. Just something to bridge the gap over the next short while to recharge the batteries. Please please please don’t hesitate to hit us up on the socials. I completely understand we’re a weekly show and I am going to miss the back and forth. If you’re in the same boat please know the invitation to hit me up on twitter or instagram or the facebook page is sincere.
We reminisce about how we all came together in this incarnation of the show and what it means to us but not in the ‘final’ way because believe me when and if that day ever comes there will be a LOT of other people to thank – including my wife and kids for their support over the years. The group is already missing getting together every week and we aren’t even sure on what we’ll do with our time next week, ha!
We talk about Adepticon coming up, hot dogs and pizza. The culture of the event venues is so important and a huge part of what we’ve come to enjoy from these experiences.
Red talks about a recent win at a local tournament with his World Eaters. Sincerely, no matter how long or how many times you’ve listened to the show it means so much to us. We absolutely will be back in a couple/few weeks with more content from the cast and a fresh start on some other projects. Keep your eyes and ears peeled.

The memes of these Desolation Marines have been outstanding. I’m sure we’ll continue to see them pop up but that might change a little once hobbyist get them in their hands and have the opportunity to paint them something other that Ultramarines Blue. We’ll no doubt see head swaps and custom bits and all that jazz. The absolute winner for me is the new Brutalis Dreadnought. It’s a beast!
Hey all,

These new marines have been all sorts of up in arms. Some folks don’t know how they even made it past the design phase. Some folks are scratching their head trying to figure out how they will make it into army lists. Some folks are just asking why? To me, a lot of those questions will get answered in time as players choose to give them a shot and start to layer on the best Chapter Tactics for them. There are other things in this box too though…
I will absolutely be looking to play with the Brutalis Dreadnought. It has all the sorts of things that makes my Blood Angel heart sing. The claw variant is the one that jumps out to me but you can make a case for any of the configuration. I am also starting with the multi melta hip guns. I plan be getting up close and personal.
At the back of the show we revisit the topic of not showing up to the table beaten. Approach every game like a winnable game and with that mindset you will absolutely win more games.
Adam is playing in the Cherokee Open over the weekend and bringing Grey Knights. How will he do? Find out next week, ha!

We talk briefly about the new AM stuff hitting the pre-order sites this weekend. I made sure to be quick on the draw to get the Rough Riders in my cart after I saw how quick the Kasrkin went last week. I hope everyone gets what they are looking for. We also talk about – how to maximize your Blood Tithe Points. Everyone wants to see Angron more than once.

BTP management seems like it will be critical to the success of the World Eaters. We talk a little bit about units to include in your force that are, of course, good but also help your rate of Blood Tithe Point generation. Chaos Spawn and Helbrutes might be on the table a lot more in this faction than with regular CSM or Thousand Sons.
It seems like the pre-orders from last week sold out SUPER quick. We know that will be the case with the limited edition Black Library books. May the odds be forever in your favor if you’re trying to get one.
We don’t talk specifically about the BL things coming out this week on the show but this series is something near and dear to all of our hearts.
Adam is traveling around North America at the moment and we get to hear about some of his travels.

Yay! Everyone is back on the show this week after travel, recovery, etc. We recap the LVO 2023 and come at it from a content creator perspective and reflect on the good time that it is. At the end of the show we talk a little about the design of the World Eaters Codex.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We kick back and relax this show. Recapping the LVO 2023 and how good it was to hang out with each other and see listeners and Warhammer fans from all around the world.
At the end of the show we talk about the design of the World Eaters codex and how there may be some real intentional things here and how maybe it’s a look at what we can expect from specialized codexes in the future? Who is to say?
It’s nice to have everyone back and it was even cooler getting to meet folks in person. That is the first time that a couple of us had met face to face. That’s hard to fathom as we hang out and talk every week…. Ha. On site it was cool to reflect that it doesn’t feel like it’s been forever since we’ve seen each other. I’m really glad technology does bring us together.
Back to 40k… A lot more armies are going to get up close and personal. Does that mean shooting will take a back seat? Doubtful. Custodes are coming back in a huge way from what we’ve seen from tournament reports and faction choices. How nice it must be to travel with a small army box, lol.

Eightbound will be the story of this codex at the moment. They are positioned to get up close and personal with a lot of armies. Some won’t be able to handle it. This is good though… if the game is too shooty its one dimensional. Will this codex push it too far the other way?
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We kick the show off talking about Blood Tithe Points – the BTPs are an interesting mechanic that gives you options. Do you save for a rainy day or do you burn them as soon as you get them? You can basically spend them as soon as you get them and they seem to come to you quite plentifully. Khorne cares not from where the blood flows. You can almost create your army in a way that funnels BTPs to yourself.
The big stand outs in the Codex are the Eightbound. They will shine pound for pound more than terminators, I think. Terminators are still great though! We might find ourselves in a world where that extra save really matters over the aggressiveness of the Eightbound but I don’t think we’re there yet.
This army doesn’t have any jump packs but it is still FAST. There are pre-game moves and extra movement bonuses and ways to improve charge rolls and all the good stuff you might expect from an army that is renowned for doing one thing well – getting into combat.
It feels ‘nice’ in a way that makes sense but not overly pushed or forced into the codex. You can look at the models, look at the lore and just kinda smile and nod – that’s a hallmark of good design.

I would have posted something about preordering Rogal Dorn but I don’t want to get anyone excited about a Primarch. I do want to get folks excited about these tanks through! All sorts of good Astra Militarum stuff goes up for pre-order this weekend. Tread Heads rejoice.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We do talk about the stuff going up for order today on the show and we also talk about what we’ll all be doing at the Las Vegas Open. Links to all the streams can be found here. Most of us from the show will be helping out with one stream or another but have no fear.. we’ll make sure Red comes on when he can to chat. ha!
The end of the ITC season draws nigh… Who will take the top slot? This is one of the first years we have so many folks from outside of the US to take the whole thing. Warhammer has and will also be international but it is so cool to see just how connected the world is.
Back to the tank… The Rogal Dorn goes together like a dream. A nice feature is that you don’t have to commit to any of the weapon options. If you so choose you can keep the options open and just slot on your weapons with a little blue tac or a magnet to basically future proof your big guns.
I’m a big fan of whatever gives you the highest rate of fire. There are tons of options and this thing comes with the ability to adapt to any tabletop situation. Everyone is executed about the potential of what Marines might bring to the table. What will be the best load out to deal with them?

This episode is largely about one of the biggest models to hit the table in a long time. Horus, the Man, the Myth, the Legend, the Ascended. We’ve seen the rules in the main Liber book but the model is an all together different thing to behold. If you play Sons of Horus this is a must have.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
Sometime you just want to invest a 3rd or more of your points into one model and I’m okay with that. The Horus Heresy setting is one full of myth, destruction, despair and heroic moments. The namesake of the whole thing is a guy named Horus and his unprecedented betrayal of the leader of the human race.
There are a few books on the subject and if you aren’t familiar with them we highly suggest you check them out. We’ll wait while you do. To get the full appreciation for this character you do want to start at the beginning.
Horus Ascended is an amazing model. It can be intimidating to think about putting it together and painting it but don’t let that stop you. You start like any other project and do it bit by bit, one step at a time. Clean the model, assemble the model to a stage you’re comfortable with and then prime. Prime lightly, my friends, you don’t want to lose any of this spectacular detail.
We go over the rules for this guy while talking about what he means to the overall landscape of this entire game.

Wow – er body gets free wargear. Well, almost everyone. The Balance Data Slate is set to take the meta by storm as soon as it is adopted by the crowd at large. There are a few big tournaments coming up soon that may put the breaks on it due to it getting released near their rules/army cut off dates.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
Due to some leaks there was quite a bit of hysteria around what might have been with the points adjustments but now the news is out and in people’s hands they can see it’s really not so bad.
Adam walks us through a lot of the changes from a purely competitive standpoint. IE, the things that might matter the most to you if you’re making a matched play list and heading to a tournament soon.
This will absolutely shake up the meta a little bit. I say a little bit because I don’t think this really changes the factions people have been playing recently, if they weren’t just fair weather fans. It will certainly change what some of them take in the faction but nothing that wholesale warps someone’s collection.
Flamers got a massive change but I seriously doubt it will change the amount people take or the frequency that you see them. You’ll still need to prepare for them. Marines… Marine player rejoice. You have a LOT more options in your list now. I’m getting players all around the world writing in saying how much fun they are having writing new Marine lists on the back of these changes. But what no one knows yet – will it actually matter? Will we see Marines start to circulate in the top tables?

We slide our way to the end of the year and ease on in to 2023 with this episode. We definitely let Adam gush over the Azrael leaks but also spend a brief amount of time reminiscing about the figures we painted this year while look forward to hanging out with each other just after the New Year rings. Thanks for listening.

2022 is coming to a close. I know everyone has challenges each and every year but we sincerely hope yours have been manageable. The New Year means different things to different people and as I get older sometimes it feels like ‘just another day’ but I try to look at this time as an opportunity to reflect on positive things and be hopeful about what the future holds.
I had an awesome time being a part of the warhammer community this year. We talk about it on the show but 2022 is the first year in three years where the players got to ‘get back out’ in full force if they felt called to do so. Tournaments and games were in full force all over the globe. We’ve seen player bases thrive in all areas of the globe.
We’ve even heard news of full on actual celebrities playing this game and loving the hobby. Wow… I think we all wanted this to happen for a long time but no one knew how or when it was going to work. I’m extremely hopeful for the future.
Oh… and another Chapter Master has stormed across the Rubicon. We talk about that too. Ha!

We have a chill talk about if we think the way the models play match what we expect from the lore. This is very much a finger the the air type conversation but was fun to have. We compare 40k to Sigmar a bit as well. We’re winding the year down and looking forward to the next one.
Hey all,

Do the rules match the lore? It certainly seems like they try. We don’t talk about the ‘power level’ really but more keep the conversation to – do we think the rules for the model line up pretty well to the way the model looks or what we have come to expect to what has been written about the model.
We have brief bit where we also discuss if our own perceptions or biases filter through and if we’ve invented some of this along the way in our heads. We spend so much time fantasizing about 40k that is a huge possibility.
Its kind of a fun talk as we wrap up this year and look forward to the next one. One more episode this year! Do you bring any bias to the way you think a model should preform to the way it actually does or how you feel the writers have interpreted it.
We don’t talk about how we might have been wrong about that really on this show but it’s a fun exersize to think about for future shows for sure.

Talk about the season of the Red? He finally makes it back from the field to be on the show and we celebrate by talking about Angron. The Primarch, the myth, the legend. People are already decrying the fact that they don’t think he is tough enough. I argue, he is more than tough enough.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
Red is back. Yay! This series of releases has been right up his alley even more than the rest of the folks on the show so we’re happy his schedule allows him to join us.
A lot of the show is talking about Angron.
He’s an absolute beast with all the destructive power you can ever ask for but folks are already thinking he’s going to live on the shelf and not tip the scales of the meta at all.
We argue that maybe… just maybe.. not matter how many points he is he acts as a fire magnet for the rest of you army. This means that sure, he might take a dirt nap but the rest of your army – tons of it – will make it all the way across the field to mix it up with the opponent. 40k is about trading. Trade up! Your primarch for their entire army. Angron would want it that way.

Adam got to take the new guard for a spin and we talk about his list- Even though it is Cadian and Catachan, ha! Its still early days as some of the new models aren’t out yet and we don’t know when that’s happening but it is cool to get some of the new mechanics on the table. We also talk about Pax Unplugged and give a recap of the Games Workshop presence there.

It’s hard not to take Born Soldiers as your army trait for the new Astra Militarum and that’s where Adam starts as well. The automatic wound on 6’s to hit seems pretty punishing when combined to the staggering rate of fire for most of this army.
The army seemed to preform well against one of the meta’s big contenders – Daemons. That is sort of what we might expect since volume of fire is what it takes to pound through the Daemonic Save. It sounds like he comes up with a cool tip for Ogryn as well. Tune in!
Paul demoed Blood Bowl over the past weekend and had a blast. Its so cool showing this game to folks who haven’t heard of or seen it before. The game has truly stood the test of time and not lost one bit of it’s charm. Pax Unplugged is much more of a board game show than it is a tabletop mini convention but there is a ton of overlap between the fans.

A large part of this show is about Lord Solar Leontus. We believe he will be in a lot of lists and if you aren’t taking him you really need to ask yourself why. There are lots of other compelling options in the book but it starts with this guy.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We still don’t know when the new Astra Militarum Codex will be out in the wild and available to everyone OR when the hot new models will hit the shelves. Doesn’t stop us from talking about it… We are all Guard players on the show.
Lord Solar and Rough Riders are getting a lot of press right now and rightly so. They are heavy hitting impact pieces that are sure to flood the tables once folks have the opportunity to buy them. Who knew the IG had so many horses?
With 5-600 points wrapped up in cavalry you will still have a ton of points left over for tanks. I haven’t gone too deep down the rabbit hole creating a list yet because since we don’t know release dates and don’t have an FAQ yet (although I don’t think the book lends itself to any big changes). I’m sort of still in the ‘drool’ phase looking at all the new units and options. Trying to figure out how I’m going to convert everything to look like it’s Catachan.
Once again I want to apologize for getting the show out late. The convention schedule really threw me off. Pax Unplugged was a blast! I hope I get the opportunity to go again next year.

Very sorry for the double episode in one download. I hope it doesn’t mess up your data plan. Last week was so jammed up with 40k goodness this had a delay. We leads up to and talk about how the Grand Narrative was and also the 40k and Age of Sigmar US Open Series Finale.

Wow! In the first part of the episode we kick it off talking about how this will be two episodes in one. That is totally my fault (Paul) and I apologize. The Grand Narrative took up a ton of well deserved time. In this episode we tack on this week’s content to the episode we recorded the week before. Thanks in advance for the understanding.
Please check out the Twitch stream replays for all the amazing live and pre-recorded coverage. We talk to players, cos players and tournament attendees and it is awesome.
Our very own Red Powell got to play in the Grand Narrative and in this episode we talk about his expectations leading up to it and his feelings after the fact. Spoiler Alert – it’s awesome.
The 40k and Age of Sigmar finale for this event turned out to be nail biters. Three of the Four events went to Sudden Death rematches where the participants got to play each other three times to decide who took the crown. None of us expected that and it was incredibly cool to watch. You get to hear about here.

There is no easy way to put this – you’ve been conscripted into the Guard, Soldier. This book changes a LOT about what we knew before but still manages to stay familiar. We might see a different look, visually, to what we’ve seen on tables past but some generals might not like mixing up Regiments. The book is modernized and brings power to the faction.
Hey all,

Games Workshop is not afraid to mix things up when it comes to core factions. I’m still trying to process it a bit but I do like the idea of being able to choose to mix in some different visual themes on the tabletop and that be ‘ok.’
Units in the book received a much needed power adjustment to bring it into modern standards. We highlight a couple of core things about the Blast rule later in the show too. What does this keyword actually bring to the AM now? Is it a liability? Are you paying points for it or is it just something thematically tossed on to the weapons that look blasty? How generals rationalize this will be something to examine as players get reps in with the book.
There are big changes to the Psychic Powers and these seem cool. I can see a lot of lists packing in a psycher now or at least taking a really spicy relic that might help protect against the opponents scoring secondary points.
The epic Rogal Dorn tank is good, really good. There are ways to make it and the Super Heavy tanks an Officer. I’m not sure if this just sounds good or if it will really be a force multiplier. These vehicles already have giant targets on their backs. Is investing more points into them the thing to do? I hope so…

The Libre Imperium is up for pre-order this week for the Horus Heresy game world. This book adds 4 new playable factions back to the game for this edition. The book looks and feels elegant with tons of flavor ready to hit the tabletop.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We talk a bit about the new Horus Heresy book in the front part of the show. If you haven’t checked out the Horus Heresy game yet you really should if you have a craving for ‘historical’ battles. There is a gritty feel to the entire game that feels both nostalgic and new at the same time.
After that we just have to talk about Blood Angels taking the top spot at the Games Workshop US Open event in Kansas City MO last weekend. Zaak K put on a clinic with a fresh army list beating out Mani C in the finals. Zaak will no doubt be giving inspiration to a whole new raft of Blood Angel players. Mani also showed the world exactly what the Thousand Sons are capable of when paired with powerful new daemon allies.
After the break we do a little Astra Militarum wish listing. We know the codex is just around the corner and since we’re all Guard players it is hard not to have our eyes focused on that.
Is there anything you’re hoping for as a player or possible opponent? All the new artillery has me licking my chops. I’ve always enjoyed painting tanks and armor pieces.

There has been a lot of chatter on the internet on how some folks don’t think the meta is healthy, balanced or diverse enough. That’s really subjective and I don’t want to say tournaments, traveling or organized play is for everyone but I can tell you there is a WIDE variety of what people are having success with out there.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
This episode is a little late but please go check out the coverage from the Kansas City Open Event from games workshop on the Warhammer TV Twitch page. TONS of interesting games to showcase.
Some of you know that Adam and I do a show on the FLGN where we talk about tournament meta and attendance. Attendance is going up and up and the diversity of the field is on the same trajectory. The faction make up is all over the map. It’s great!
Of course this way to enjoy the game isn’t right for everyone. This leads us to the question of – what makes someone a Warhammer fan.
We break it down to the smallest part. Any and all enjoyment from any bit of Warhammer from any sort of property – comics, games, an old codex, a one off game or whatever, can make you a fan of Warhammer and that’s ok!

The Balance Dataslate has a few people shaking their heads and expecting more. Is that justified? Is the game in such a good spot right now that dramatic updates aren’t needed? Should the codexes routinely holding down the bottom spots at events be getting more attention and better buffs? We talk about it.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
The Balance Dataslate has a lot of players feeling like it let them down. Maybe the routine updates the game is getting is setting some unrealistic expectations. Should we be wanting our armies to go through quarterly revisions? It’s like sometimes we forget that we have to hobby around and towards these changes.
With that said it is fair for players to think these slates are coming from a place that sees and hears their concerns. This one doesn’t seem like it fits that bill for them. I argue on the show that the game is in such a good place that these little nudges might be all the game ‘really’ needs or wants to keep healthy. I can tell you without a doubt that what people are bringing to events right now is extremely diverse at the moment. We have increasingly higher numbers of factions you didn’t see anywhere near podiums six months ago.
That is just one stat though… the designers keeping this game as exciting as we want it to be are looking at multiple things like win rate, feedback, attendance and likely a host of other things.
Adam mentions that we’ll look back on this time as some of the best of this edition and I kinda feel like a lot of players feel that way too as record setting attendance is happening all over the world.

The Preview last week gave us our first tastes of new Astra Militarum stuff and I personally didn’t realize how thirst I was. Yum. Gimme some of that new Guard stuff ASAP.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
There is something pretty satisfying about painting Astra Militarum tanks and weapons platforms. I continuously make pew pew and boom boom noises with every brush stroke. These new model reveals have me jazzed, if you couldn’t tell.
Every single member of this podcast plays Guard to some capacity. The army lends itself to many styles of play and basically every single one of us is on the edge of our seats with anticipation.
We get our hands on the models from the latest Kill Team set – Shadow Vaults which GW has generously provided to us for review and first looks. Wow. With the new Kill Team sets the preview also announced new ways to play with your 40k figs. I don’t get tired of that!
We recap the Chicago Open by Games Workshop and give a little details about the Harlequins list that won along with the runner up – Emperor’s Children of all things. Chaos is back, baby!

The answer is pretty simple. If you like Magic The Gathering and Warhammer then of course you should! The decks are well designed and seem like a hoot to play. Pleasant Kenobi joins us to talk about it from someone who knows both of the games very well.
Hey folks,

When I saw these decks teased it was an automatic buy for me. When I found out they were actually good – ohh heck yeah. These are getting hard to find at MSPR at the moment so you want to make sure and pick them up soon if you expect to want them in the future.
Later in the show after talking with Vincent the rest of us get a little silly and try our best not to give spoilers on the latest book. We don’t so its a safe listen.
We talk about the upcoming US Open series events as well.
About halfway through the show we figured out it was October – where has the year gone? Later this month we’ll smash out some Orktober content.

Yep. We keep track of these things around here. Our eyes are on the prize. The Scoreboard doesn’t lie. You get the drift. When all else fails and you feel outmatched at the table its time to control what you can control.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We lead off with a message about keeping people focused on the scoreboard. We lose the thread a little bit when we start talking about terrain but that just goes to illustrate how important terrain is. If you haven’t invented or invested in it then you really owe it to yourself. We’re at a point in the game and the lethalness of each army where it is vital that you give yourself and your opponents the best chance at having a good time.
We find the thread again in part two where we talk about how to hang onto those points and recognize when you might be falling behind too fast to keep the game tight.
It may seem risky but sometimes you do have to sacrifice units – giving them a one way ticket to deadsville – just to stay ahead or close on the scoreboard. If you can force a few rounds where your opponent only gets 4 points for Primary you are giving yourself a huge advantage even if they have a strong secondary game – like Necron players.
Each release has us going back to the drawing board but that is pretty much how the game works. Each time we rock up to the table we don’t exactly know what our opponents have in store for us. We have an educated guess about what we can expect in certain ratios – like 50% assault and 50% shooty or whatever but what each and every opponents will do is present us with a set of challenges. In some instances they are gonna have us beat at list design so what comes next? You have to get super focused on what you can accomplish.

It sure seems like folks are legitimately up in arms about the power level of the Leagues of Votann or they are just piling on the internet fury. We don’t know at this point. In situations like this I don’t get pulled into the hype but instead look deep into my favorite Codexes and figure out what can I do?
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
You can clearly see the Leagues of Votann are going to rocket out of their corner with both fists flying. This codex will be strong. There is no denying that. Right now the vocal crowd on the internet think it’s too much. Is that true? Has their been enough time between the previews and now for people to start finding things in their Codexes to give them a fighting chance?
That remains to be seen. Right now folks are using their ‘old standard’ lists to try and combat something totally new. When in the history of ever has that actually worked? Not often and you’re more lucky if that’s happened at all.
We talk a little bit about that and some alternative ways to enjoy the game if the ‘Competitive’ side of things is a little exhausting or bad for you right now. That’s completely valid. Thankfully there are tons of supported ways of playing this game right now and it’s something we can’t talk about enough. We all love this hobby. Its cool to take a step back every now and then and take a deep breath.
Later in the show we talk about getting up and running with a Necromuda campaign and then later than that we close the show out talking with our second favorite Canadian Skari from the SkaredCast. He is always a pleasure. He brings some insights on Crusade play to the show.

What a banger we get to do for Episode 450.. The Leagues of Votann reveals are pretty exciting. Many are claiming these will instantly slot in as one of the most powerful armies in the game. Is it all hype? Come check it out.
Hey folks,

The Leagues are gonna be tough! They have an amazing amount of new rules and weapon types the game has never seen. Are they the best? That’s such a hard question. They are certainly going to bust out of the gate as heavy hitters. The army has powerful shooting and durability without compromising anything in the close combat department.
The League’s powerful Judgement mechanic takes a little bit of the dice rolling out of the equation. This smooths out variance by a TON!
Everything in the starter box is playable and good. You will not regret picking it up. You will use every single model on the table. Not because there aren’t a ton of kits out for this faction yet.. it’s because everything has functional rules and abilities for the tabletop.
The Pioneers are a stand out choice. For not a ton of points you get a massive amount of utility.

After an action packed weekend we’re back to our normal schedule. We talk a little about the NOVA Open and the incredible hobby on display that weekend. The Necrons took the crown and it’s hard to even consider them being stopped at this point. The back half of the show has us asking ‘what makes a Codex good?’ What are your thoughts on that?
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
It’s just Tanya, Adam and Paul this week. Red should be returning next week. We know we’ve been missing some Chaos hot takes without him.
Paul hit Dragon Con in ATL and the NOVA Open in DC last weekend. It was a whirlwind but still amazing on all counts. The armies on display at NOVA might have been better pound for pound than you see at any tournament anywhere in the world.
Later in the episode we ask ‘What makes a Codex good?’ Like how do you judge is the book is awesome and what is your criteria? Is one good list enough? Is a unit to underpin your entire army list all you need? Do you need 4 or 5 ways to build a competitive list to tickle your fancy?
I definitely like to see books with several build options and archetypes available before I call a Codex great. With that said I know I’ve certainly been more than satisfied as long as I could play my faction and win more games than I lost and occasionally take hope a top prize at an event.

Extremely sorry for the late release of this episode but travel got in the way. Nurgle Snurgle and Scott LaFountain join us to talk about their hot takes on the pre-release information about Chaos Daemons.
Nurgle Snurgle is up first in the show with Paul and Tanya to talk about how she’s been approaching the faction to this point and what shes looking forward to once she has the book in her hands.
Adam and I gibber jabber in the in between segments.
Next up in Scott LaFountain who you might remember from placing highly in mega events using the previous version of the Daemons. We see what he’s thinking about going forward.

The Daemons will be different but that’s okay right.. Especially if they get tons of upgrades and army wide Warp abilities to use every turn. I don’t think any unit gets what you might call a downgrade outside of overall squad size. Almost everything in this book has some utility that Chaos Daemon Generals might be looking for to give them the claw up on the battlefield.

The next big 40k event we have coming up in the NOVA Open. You definitely want to check out our coverage in a couple of weeks. There will be some top 40k play and the smooth stylings of Paul and Nick.
We kick the show off talking about Horus Hersey and specifically the Mechanicum vs World Eaters from a game Paul played over the weekend The World Eaters had some serious lop sided rolls so the outcome wasn’t totally their fault. The Mechanicum has some tricks for sure but might struggled due to their lower Init score.
The Daemon players will have to come to grips with the fact their basic troop squad is listed to a squad size of 10 now but that is about the only ‘huge’ downgrade. Everything else in the book is jammed packed with potential and there are some spicy things for every one of the factions. If you were a fan of a daemon faction before you will still be.
The Warp Storm is basically another set of free Command Point like abilities that effect your entire army based on the faction you use them for. This will seem absolutely back breaking to opponents on some turns.

One of the coolest things about the Heresy is the ability to play whatever force you want for whatever side you want. This edition has just been Marine on Marine so far but NOT ANYMORE! The Liber Mechanicum is up for order today and we give a little teaser for it.

Back on track with an on time release this week. We start by talking a little bit about GenCon and how cool it is to be around all of those games. Of course we talk about Games Workshop’s presence there and all the cool things you can do over the course of the weekend with all the Warhammer stuff.
If you have done Kill Team Live yet I fully endorse you making time for it if you’re ever presented with the opportunity to do so. It’s an immersive experience and tons of fun. If you’re a Warhammer+ Subscriber it’s one of the things you can do for FREE too.
I feel like I’ve used a lot of capslock in this post.. Sometimes you just gotta. In the second part of the show we talk about stress painting – or event driven painting as the case may be. Whatever it takes to get those battle ready figures on the table.
I’ve had some models on my desk for a LONG time and through some encouragement from recording this show I’m back to painting them. It’s easy to get stuck at the ‘my models look like crap stage’ but remember everyone gets there and having confidence in yourself and your process is critical to get over this hump. One brush stroke at a time.

Clubs and Teams are becoming more poplar in our hobby. This is great! We talk about how to get one started and some of the characteristics you might look for when getting it off the ground or joining an existing one. After that we talk about how to stop the Necron menace. They score points like few others.

As you know the Necrons are incredibly strong right now and a lot of that has to do with how effectively they score points during the round. Its incredibly hard to stop them and for the uninformed player it may seem like there is nothing you can do. We break that down a little.
At the end of the show we talk about getting out of a hobby slump.
All these topics are a lot harder than it sounds like they should be but we hope to demystify them just a tad. What are some of your experiences?

A couple of us were at one of the largest tournaments in the world this past weekend and we give a recap of the event and our performance there. Not too shabby…. After the break we talk about some Horus Heresy color schemes and how to go your own way in established lore environments.

Red pulled down best Necrons and second best individual general at the ATC this past weekend. Big ups to him.
Team 40k is some of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had over the years and this year is no exception. This past weekend in TN was an amazing experience and we highly encourage you all to give it a shot if tournaments are your thing.
After the break we talk about some of the cool paint recipes in this month’s White Dwarf magazine and a little bit about how it is completely okay to do your own thing lore wise in games like the Heresy.
Sure, there are tons of established stories but those are just what the authors have chosen to tell us. Warhammer is big enough for your own stories and the doors to that are right there in the lore already. Don’t let anyone slow you down if you’re thinking about different color schemes or different approaches to established Legions. Roll those dice!

We take the opportunity to look at the Fights Last vs Fight First mechanic in the game. With the release of the Chaos Space Marine codex there are a bunch of ways to pull off a Fights Last effect on charging opponents. It will definitely let the Chaos players control the momentum of combat. This isn’t just about Chaos so there should be something here for all generals.

We sort of center the conversation around Chaos Space Marines in this episode but the concepts aren’t limited to them. There are a lot of ways to get Fights Last in the game but right now it looks like Drukhari and Chaos Space Marines do it best. You do not want to go into them unprepared.
Last episode we talked about Shadows Edge Miniatures and their project. He’s got a kickstarter going now for what are sure to be more awesome products and you can find it here.
Even armies like Necrons and the Silent King have the ability to pull off a cheeky Fights Last. Players need to ask themselves, how do they deal with it.
It’s not all doom and gloom, it’s a great mechanic. Players should be using this as the Fight Phase is extremely deadly and sometimes a difficult situation to navigate. Why not give yourself a leg up by taking the wind out of the sails of the charging units?

Wow wow wow. Are you feeling claustrophobic on the table? There may be no where to hide from a few assault based armies now. That might be a good thing and put some much needed spice in the game.

Charging into Obscuring Terrain got a tad bit less wonky with the most recent FAQ change. Now players only need to come within 2 inches for Engagement range when charging units near/in Obscuring Terrain. This has a lot of players shaking in their boots. Is this a good thing?
Last episode we talked about Shadows Edge Miniatures and their project. He’s got a kickstarter going now for what are sure to be more awesome products and you can find it here.
The Assault Phase is one of the most skill based activities in this game and it just got a little harder to avoid. I mean.. basically the games needs terrain to be fun and equal the playing field for everyone involved. There were ‘exploits’ for players to further delay close proximity contact with the opponent that we can guess were unintentional as far as the rules go.
We’ve got a bit of a band-aid on that while still preserving lanes of fire and maneuvering on the table while giving some home for interactivity for assault armies. Full disclosure, I play Blood Angels and am very happy about this change.

Changes to the game are part of the cycle of life.. Right? Generals around the world will need to adapt to the Command Point changes and how to look for value in their codexes that weren’t considered previously. The first part of the show is about finding that value and the back half of the show is about how good the Necrons are gonna have it.

We’re all going to be thirsty for Command Points. I played against someone this weekend who was using the ‘old way’ of spending all his CP before the game started for advantages. He felt very constrained in the first few turns of the game because he never had the gas in the tank he needed to flip combats.
Last episode we talked about Shadows Edge Miniatures and their project. He’s got a kickstarter going now for what are sure to be more awesome products and you can find it here.
After a brief player spotlight with Paul and Nick Nanavati we pick Red back up on the show to shed some light on what will become the Necron menace.
There have been several times in the game where Necrons have been dominant. Is it their time to shine again? It might be cool if it is, as it is a pretty easy army to get up and going for new players, for painting and playing.

We talk a lot about World Eaters in this show and then we move over to talk about the new Chaos Space Marines in general but with a huge focus on the man himself Abaddon the Despoiler. He is the truth. If you’re on the fence about picking one up you don’t want to wait.

Yo!!! Chaos is here and it’s going to bring some long awaited rivalries back to the tabletop. The game is just better when there are strong bad guy factions.
Last episode we talked about Shadows Edge Miniatures and their project. He’s got a kickstarter going now for what are sure to be more awesome products and you can find it here.
Abaddon is freaking amazing! There is a lot to love in the Chaos Space Marine Codex but he basically is 300 points of your army is sorted. Every Chaos army is going to be 1700 points plus this champion.
We give Red ample opportunity to gush over the World Eaters as well. The World Eaters sort of trade the power they have now for some power they will get once folks have the Chaos book in their hands.

Big changes coming with the Chapter Approved. It will definitely take some getting used to but isn’t this the sort of shake up we think we want? This might be the biggest change out side of an edition shift we’ve seen so far in 9th. Does this actually get closer to leveling the playing field?

We just right in to what we know and start talking about the Command Point changes hitting soon that will impact each and every army in the game. But does it actually help?
Aeldari are going right to the top. It’s not exactly a big jump as they were number 2 or 3 anyway depending on how you were judging that day. Tau might have enjoyed a brief moment in the sun before heading back down to 3rd or 4th.. We won’t know until we see points. If we think the above is accurate is there room for something else to slip into that 2nd or 3rd rank position?

Very sorry about the late show posting but Paul has been traveling and doing commentary for the Games Workshop US Open Series. This weekend they were in San Diego.

After that segment we talk about our initial impressions about the Horus Heresy box set and rules. I love them. Hear more inside. Ha!

Pleasant Kenobi joins us in the middle of the show for a special segment where we compare how often Wizards of the Coast balances Magic The Gathering vs how often Games Workshop balances Warhammer. Is the game doing too much or too little to keep the competitive environments healthy?

We don’t exactly solve all the problems in Warhammer in this episode but more just talk about the idea of intentionally crafting a healthy competitive environment.
Pleasant Kenobi joins us again. You might remember him from the last time he was on the show and earlier in his Warhammer journey. You can find his YouTube channel here.
Its a fun conversation and we hope you enjoy it.

A standard two part episode this week but next week we’ll have a couple special guests.

In the middle of the show Paul is joined by Kicker Kalozdi. You can just feel like this dude loves his job and cares about putting on a good show for people. If you aren’t familiar with what he does right now please check it out both on Signals from the Frontline and the FLG Events/Tournaments.
The last part of the show we talk about Display Boards. This topic is heating up and is interesting. Do we over value or under value them when determining ‘best painted’? Do some events require them to consider your army Battle Ready? Do some tournaments require them to give your army max paint points? Should they?

Last weekend was jam packed with Warhammer goodness. It is easier than ever to have more Warhammer more often. Did you see what toy wanted to see? I can’t wait! Heresy is getting a facelift and a bunch of new plastics but it didn’t stop there….

You won’t believe what Red says in this one. Has he finally turned his back on the dark gods? The Pantheon is watching.
We jump around a LOT in this one but there is so much to cover we can hardly contain the excitement. We basically only hint at the new releases and more have our eyes set on the future and all the stuff we have coming down the pipe. Since we’ve seen it we can only hope it’s coming soon.
I can’t wait to get my hands on a plastic Sicaran. I’ve never actually owned one, now it feels like I need to dress up a few for my favorite legions.
My oldest son has gotten into Warhammer and is asking all the tough questions. We kick off the back half of the show talking about one of those.

Matched Play is still playing catch up with the Balance Data Slate and during this downtime we’re getting speculative. Are Tyranids really public enemy number one this weekend? The back half of the show is a hobby segment where we give tips about how to up your hobby game with no skill.
Hey folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
We’re just scratching the surface of what Armor of Contempt is doing out there in the wide world of Warhammer. So few players had all the 1kSons they needed ready to go but I absolutely believe we’ll see them taking the top spots by storm soon. Can the same be said for Death Guard?
I think folks are sort of biding their time to see what Tyranids might do now that their codex is live and Knights on the horizon. Either way, this is a great time to be participating in the competitive side of the hobby. So many things are on the table…. Did you see what I did there?
Tyranids will absolutely be a dominating force this weekend and I must say, I hope the players enjoy it. This faction has had some life breathed into it the last few months with Crusher but that should not cast a shadow of the warp over the fact that there are tons of long term faction fans who have been chomping at the bit to get their favorite minis on the table.
The back of the show is all about how to up your hobby game for any skill level.

We kick the show off talking a bit about the Chaos Space Marine teasers provided by the Warhammer Community team before going on to chat about the ripples from the Balance Data Slate and Knight news. Hobby Segment this week is about alternative ways to base your flying models.
Hi all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
No dates yet but we have some cool news about Chaos Space Marines and what we can expect if and when they ever get a new book. It’s pretty exciting to think about what they may get but it is way too early to speculate too much,
The Balance Data Slate continues to shake up the meta as generals all around the world are adjusting to the changes. Custodes seem to still be doing just fine with a few minor tweaks to their lists, Aeldari are wrecking faces all over the place and Astra Militarum is still struggling. But is it though? Or are people still just a bit gun shy? Did you see what I did there??
What we’ve seen so far about Knights, both flavors, has folks scratching their heads wondering if these new profiles and expanded abilities are enough to keep them on the table in what is an extremely killy/dangerous edition of Warhammer.
As we’ve seen with all the previews we need to get the book in hand to really explore all the combos and ins and outs. It’s very difficult to know what an army is all about from a couple of short articles and a glimpse of just a couple of abilities.

The Q2 Balance Data Slates swings for the fences and NO ONE IS SAFE! Just kidding… it’s actually pretty even keel and these changes should reinvigorate matched play in ways we didn’t expect. The goal seemed to be to smooth out the top rungs of competitive lists and lift up the under performers. It does that.
Hi all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
GUARD ARE BACK BABY! Okay okay okay, I got a little excited but I’m pretty interested in seeing how the guard changes inspire generals to get back on the table. It’s been super lean for them this edition. This is a band-aid for sure but its the best thing they’ve gotten to date in 9th.
Custodes tumble and lose a TON of their flexibility. I don’t know how I feel about this yet and I’m not sure we can truly understand how this will impact list building but it is definitely going to be harder for Custodes players to score points round to round. It’s not impossible though.
Astartes of all types get a massive boost to their armor saves. This will 100% change what people consider taking and mark these words… We’ll see more Chaos Space Marines as result of it.
One of the more controversial changes is around the bodyguard rule. Now it takes the game a little bit out of the abstract and more into a less fun sponge sort of process. I don’t mind this. There is sniper mechanic in the game that doesn’t get as much play as you might expect. Maybe that changes now causing players to have more interaction on the table and play a little less cavalier? We’ll see.

You only thought you had the meta figured out from last week. Just wait. The Hive Fleets will be hitting the table bigger and beefier than ever. Will it be more brains than brawn? Why not both? Seriously, this is a great book with tons of options for generals. Check this show out.

In the middle of the show we’re joined by Caleb from CK Studios to talk about airbrushing and how to get into it if you’re airbrush curious. The whole rest of the show is about Tyranids.
John Hickton graces us with his expansive Tyranid knowledge and insights into the new abilities. We’re definitely going to see a ton of Maleceptors and Zoanthropes on the table and believe it or not.. Tyranids Warriors.
Warriors will be back as a mainstay in almost any variant of the lists we think. There are a few powerful mechanics in the book that allow you to wring and incredible amount of ferocity and efficiency out of these creatures.
The hobby segment is about White Dwarf tutorials this week. Remember, a lot of tutorials are based on models but as the reader you can just focus on the colors used if the faction doesn’t apply to you.
We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. They are helping bring FTN to you. Please check them out and support the organizations that support us. Very glad to be back this week. Very sorry we missed last week. We try to never miss a beat so we hope to make up for it on this episode. We recap Adeticon, the state of the 40k meta and in the middle of the show we have an awesome community spotlight segment.
Hi folks,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
In the middle of the show we have a cool segment with Steven Vallee who is amazing community organizer in the Southeast US. You can find information on the convention we highlight in the segment here. Rocky Top Gamecon
Adepticon did not disappoint. It remains a world class event and spirits were high the entire convention. The 40k meta was DOMINATED by Harlequins as top end players flocked to the incredibly efficient Voidweavers. There were many other stories from the event like Tau and Necrons also competing for the top slots but those stories are overshadowed by the Harlequin on Harlequin final.
Players will definitely have to account for Harlequins at events but also make note – DO NOT SLEEP on the rest of the Aeldari Codex. there is a lot of power there. Warhammer 40k is in a great state of competitive play, and I really mean that, more and more is getting injected into the competitive ecosystem. it’s easy to just look at the headlines but there are tons of threats out there where player skill will be the only determining factor. Let’s see what you’ve got out there!
The hobby segment is about White Dwarf tutorials this week. Remember, a lot of tutorials are based on models but as the reader you can just focus on the colors used if the faction doesn’t apply to you.

The Games Workshop US road show is back and promises to be amazing once again. Players can win a spot at the finals, just like last time but this time.. it’s at an awesome resort in New Mexico. Wow!
We spend the first part of the show talking about the Series and then shift gears to talk about playing for fun.
The hobby segment is back! We continue to talk about custom bases and how to improve your base game.

The back half of the show is all about Harlequins. The front half is all about the hobby and mostly about basing your models. It’s an important topic. Continuing our coverage of the MASSIVE Aeldari book we gives yall some heads up on what to expect from Harlequins. they are absolutely deadly and durable.
Hey all,
Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.
Deadly and durable is the hallmark of armies we’ve seen coming from the GW studio this year and I don’t mind saying I love it. If all armies can be this good then the power is in the player’s hands.
there are tons of amazing ways to play the game in the Aeldari book an the Harlequins are no exception to that. The specific factions have been replaced by Light, Dark and Twilight and each offer some powerful options. It’s tough to choose which one I like best but we expect to see a lot of players opting for the ability that forces your opponent to miss on rolls of 1-3. Can’t blame them there.
Harlequin players aren’t really forced to choose between lethality or durability. Players of this faction will absolutely make an impact on tournaments next weekend. Can anything be done to stop it? Probably as I believe Tau have enough shots to tear down the lower model count armies. Custodes can still be tough to route out of terrain, so and so forth. What this does is inject another predator into the ecosystem which while that may sound bad – it’s great for the game as the more powerhouse we have forcing players to make list composition choices the more likely we are to have a better games all around.

What is the best Troop in Codex Aeldari? That will always depend on what else is in your army but this codex makes a compelling case for several at face value. We run down the virtues of the choices in this slot. We’re saving Harlequins for next week..

People will be looking at this book for a LONG time trying to figure out the best way to come about this. I think a lot of folks will shy away from the large blocks of troops in an effort to get more of the juicy elite choices into their list but am I wrong?
We take a look at the troops selections available to most Aeldari players. This includes some new options in the form of Corsairs. They have amazing models but is what you get enough to offset a more traditional choice is what we try to figure out in this episode.
We know it really depends on what else is in your army or your ‘intent’ with secondaries or how tricky you want to get.
The hobby segment is back! This time talking about custom bases. If you want to see the results Paul always posts up on twitter and instagram. Links below.

Codex Aeldari is up for pre order this week and it is SPICY. There is so much packed into this book it is easily one of the largest Codexes we’ll see in this edition. We barely scratch the surface but cover a ton of good stuff and hopefully get you all lathered up in anticipation of the new rules. I’m excited.

Holy smokes… the Aeldari are going to make a huge splash in the meta. Folks who have been worried about Custodes and Drukhari and Admech or any of the other boogey men out there need to add Codex Aeldari to the list. It is powerful.
With that said it seems fairly balanced point wise. Generals will really need to chose what they include in their force and might get bogged down in a list full of good things and not really have a good list. There is so much depth and options in this book that is supported by the three factions represented and seemingly designed from the ground up to work together.
Each and every single one of the Craftworlds seems playable. We call out Biel-Tan in this show because I play it and we go on to expound that it is everyone’s favorite anyway, probably right? I mean.. that sounds right.

In this episode we ask you nicely to consider buying a t shirt and ask you if pickles are a side dish. We kick off the show talking about the cool stuff coming out for the Black Library celebration and end the show with a hobby segment and some tips on hobby vlogging.

Some amazing stuff went up for pre-order this weekend for the Black Library celebration. I couldn’t resist getting the map and the two characters released. They are NICE! Did y’all jump in and pick anything up?
After the break we talk about a charity event happening soon in Dublin Ireland. It is so neat to see the world wide community doing great things around this hobby. If you are in the area please consider checking this event out.
Adam reveals he plans to go on a journey with his Dark Angels this year later in the show and wants to vlog it. We talk about some tips on how to get started with that and how to make it interesting for viewers. While this segment is specific to one type of thing maybe the concepts help someone get started on any new projects they may be thinking about.
The hobby segment is BACK! We talk about painting gold in a quick way that really brings some amazing results.

Some folks let us know that they felt like they had to enjoy this giant hobby the same way as they felt others were doing so. We come right out of the gate and say that isn’t true. We all know that but sometimes you lose sight of it. Its your time. Your fun. Any investment you make in this hobby is completely up to you.
Hey hey.
A little break from what we normally talk about to have a feel good segment. It’s a little bit of a hurrah of a segment but hey.. I think we needed it. Take a deep breath, have fun and we hope the first half of the show is a little brightness to the day.
When we’re looking at social media is so easy to get caught up and think we have to like something or be enjoying something the same way that other people do. You don’t. We talk for a bit about that concept and hope it lands well with you folks who listen. Obviously it doesn’t apply to everyone but maybe knowing what other people could be going through is helpful. Perspective and all that.
In the back half of the show we talk tips for list. We talk about what people are building around for their Tau, GSC and Custodes.
Custodes are really making an impact on the meta and that’s cool! They are a great entry point for people who are fans of the lore and the army travels EXTREMELY well which is cool for those of us who like to make it to tournaments around the country.
GSG is going to take some time to find that perfect build but Tau.. Tau seem to have a lot going on and it’s difficult to make a bad build. These Xenos will have folks scratching their head for weeks to come.

The LVO is back baby! Several of us were able to make and had a great time. We recap some of that experience before diving into Eldrich Omens first looks. The new minis are great! It cool to see the options and poses still exist in the kit.
Hi everyone.
This show is a little short this week. Many apologies. I’m a little worn out from the trip but next week we’ll be back to normal.
We kick the show off taking about the crazy action we saw at the LVO. We had some new faces take the event brackets by storm! Pretty cool to see. It’s not surprising that Richard Siegler took down the whole event. If he is anywhere in the top cut you know he’s odds on favorite to take the event.
Custodes seemed to do the best overall with their new book beating out Thicc City and Crusher Stampede. Both of those armies sort of lost steam as the event coalesced. It’s possible they are truly yesterday’s meta. They will still be a terror of a three round event but do they have what it takes to go all the way in a 5+ rounder still? I’m sure we’ll find out over the coming weeks.
Space Marines of all types and Orks struggled to make it deep into day 2 with no losses. Wow. Would anyone have called that?
Eldrich Omens is pretty sweet. This is the first opportunity to get your hands on some new models and we know a lot of players will jump on that. The price point is definitely not for everyone. I’m sure these kits will make their way out individually eventually. There looks like there is going to be a WHOLE lot to pick up for the new Aeldari range. I can’t wait! Games Workshop was nice enough to provide us a copy and we’re happy to share our thoughts with you.

It is always exciting when a new Codex comes up for pre order. This book is no different. We know that Tau have not been incredibly popular on the Grand Tournament scene recently but that could all change. There are a ton new abilities in this book that may re-install this faction to the podiums.
Hi all,
Games Workshop was kind enough to provide us with a review copy of Codex Tau. This dex brings about some big changes to the Tau battle strategy and something we have all feared at one time or another – Marketlights.
The lead up to this release has been a story of Rail Cannons. They are big, flashy and definitely pack a punch. I think as we learn more about the book we’ll come to tell a tale of Smart Missile Systems and Battlesuits.
The Ghostkiel is amazing. I really expect this to be in every early build for Tau generals.
There is a bit of a renewed lease on life for the Stormsurge. Thus model has only had brief glances at the tabletop in years past. Now… we may see it.
One thing is for sure – Tau generals are going to love this. It looks like there are several ways to put together great lists. And Kroot… let’s talk about Kroot for a bit. Not only can you field a full army of Kroot, they may actually do well. ha! Sure, it sounds like a gimmick but there are ton of stratagems that really help the Kroot perform on the table.

A ton of point changes but they seem more just like nudges one way or another and nothing too drastic. Custodes get some tweaks, Orks get some tweaks and.. well, you are just going to have to listen.
Hi folks,
In this episode we run down some of the point changes in the first half. A good bit of the stuff was thankfully up on the Warhammer Community page so players should already have a good idea of whats in store.
The actual biggest changes to the game come from the Grand Tournament Mission updates.
It’s subtle but there will be a HUGE impact to the outcome of many games. Players won’t be able to rely on the same old secondaries . A portion of the players that were struggling to max points with their secondary choices might find some nice new stuff they can pick that has them feeling like they have a shot in any match up.
That is honestly what it’s all about. Players want to feel good about getting their models on the table and feel like they have a fighting chance. More than any other book or mission set that has come out before I think this release accomplishes that.
Is it a must buy? That’s for you to decide but I do feel like it is a must use.

We’re joined by special guest Dustin Henshaw on this episode knowing that he is a Genestealer Cult enthusiast. He’s got a handle of the ins and outs of this book and an absolute pleasure to listen to. We hope you enjoy the discussion.
Hi all,
Genestealer Cults are back. They have a LOT of tricks up their sleeve and we run down the highlights. The Cult has powerful new rules and some of their old favorite characters have gotten a ton of new rules, gimmicks and tricks.
Games Workshop was nice enough to give us a promotional copy for our review.
Like we’ve seen in all the books there are cool combos and passages from each of the sections in the book that you can layer on to make a unique force.
This book puts the Genestealer back in the Genestealer Cults. We bet you’ll see a lot more of them in people’s armies than you have in previous editions. Also.. I hope you saved your Rock Grinders and Goliaths. These models have always looked cool but now they have some rules to match.
Let us know if you’re considering this army and if there is anything you’d like us to unpack from the Custodes and GCS dex’s. We’re taking deeper dives next week!

GW has hit us with TWO new codexes this week but in this episode we just folks on the guardians of the Big E. Some things are just as you would expect and some things have been dialed up to 11. Get the first looks from us in this show. The Adeptus Custodes are still going to be mainstays in the competitive scene.
Hi folks,
We just scratch the surface on the Adeptus Custodes this week. The codex is jammed packed with new stratagems, faction rules, Relics and Warlord traits.
Games Workshop was nice enough to give us a promotional copy for our review.
The great thing about this book is that you can largely use the figures you have and it’s a nice treat to be able to maybe haul a few additional models out of your collection back to the tabletop.
The fighting styles and how they interact with the Shield Hosts is one of the more dynamic things about the book. It gives you some amount of flexibility even if you only want to take the same figures in every game. You choose your fighting styles before each game and it isn’t something you have to do at army list generation.
One of the best Stratagems from the previous codex is Unleash the Lions. It’s still there and as a matter of fact I think we’ll end up seeing a lot more Allarus Terminators on the table. There are a few things that have changed and we call them out a little on the show as well as highlight that even though a lot of the weapons have gone to damage 2, it may not be as cool as you think….
