What was suppose to be a nice visit/family reunion turns out to be anything but. Caroline's father/step-father, Fredrick Holbrook, arrives at Plum Creek with Caroline's mother...in a coffin. He remains isolated in the Prairie Air BnB completely grief stricken. Over time and a little poke from Albert, Fredrick begins to recount stories from his life and is encouraged to write them. Fredrick's stories are accepted for publication when Charles sends them in. But, reading the fine print the author pays for the printing. Being the Ingalls, this is the opportunity for the family to come together and help Grandpa Holbrook leave his legacy. Oh ...Mary and Adam become parents.
