As always, there will be tricks, there will be treats, and, yes, there will be blood. Produced by Michael Roffman. Edited by Mae Shults. Music by The Most/Charlie Laurence and Billy Yost/The Kickback.
The podcast Halloweenies: A Horror Franchise Podcast is created by Bloody FM. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).

The podcast which you are about to hear is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of four co-hosts, in particular Daniel Caffrey, Rachel Reeves, Justin Gerber, and the obnoxious Michael Roffman. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had, they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much mad and macabre as they were to record that day. For them an idyllic autumn afternoon conversation became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annal of American history: The Halloweenies covering Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror masterpiece The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The Halloweenies continue a new October tradition! Last year, Michael Roffman and Dan Caffrey ventured to the Haddonfield Public Library to read Curtis Richards' excellent 1979 screen-to-page adaptation of the John Carpenter original Halloween. Fortunately for them, for us, for you, there are several more novelizations, and they're going through 'em all. This year sees the two dust off Dennis Etchison/Jack Martin's 1981 novelization for Halloween II. Together, they discuss Etchison's writing style, the additional scenes, the dreams of Laurie Strode, and more.

Strange Darling hits theaters this weekend -- and it's a good one. The latest export from writer-filmmaker J.T. Mollner shuffles an athletic cat-and-mouse story between stars Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner that feels both in and out of time. It's gritty, it's unpredictable, and it's paralyzing, doling out the narrative like a descendent of Tarantino's style.
But this isn't an homage; it's an extension on familiar forms. Today, Halloweenies co-host and executive producer Michael Roffman speaks with the maestro behind the madness to discuss his own filmmaking DNA and how he's been carving his own signature. They also shoot the shit on favorite Westerns and why that genre may be a prism for filmmaking.
Rest assured, there are no spoilers ahead.

The Halloweenies kick off a new October tradition! After carving out the franchise for a whole year in 2018, then proceeding to offer that same coverage to the Hallogreen trilogy, they're finally turning to the stacks. Specifically, the novelizations. Each spooky season, we'll dust off our vintage novelizations and cover them in full. This year, we begin with Curtis Richards' excellent 1979 screen-to-page adaptation of the John Carpenter original. Bonus: We also spoke with Printed in Blood co-founder and publisher Steven Hoveke, who shares some insights into the forthcoming illustrated reprint due out in 2024.

Happy Friday the 13th! We have a special treat for you: Another series from the LC/Halloweenies family. It's called The Lady Killers: a Feminine Rage Podcast, and it's hosted by fellow Losers Jenn Adams and Sammie Kuykendall, in addition to our very own editor Mae Shults and Rue Morgue editor Rocco Thompson. So what's the gist? Each episode will feature Jenn, Sammie, Mae, and Rocco discussing a female-identifying killer in the horror genre—and sometimes the wider world of cinema—from Julia and Jennifer to Carrie and Christine. They’ll tell the story from her point of view, decide if it’s “Good For Her” Horror, and answer the most important question of all: would we die for her? New episodes every Thursday; subscribe now.

Something strange is going on. The Halloweenies are back at the cabin, only there's no Ash. The Delta is outside, sure, but there's no sign of our chainsaw-wielding lothario. No, there's a new darkness within these woods -- an abomination, if you will. Join the gang around the cellar door as they unchain Fede Alvarez's 2013 reimagining of Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead. Together, they debate whether or not this is a remake, a requel, or a sequel before praising the depth of the story, the performances of Jane Levy and Lou Taylor Pucci, and all the practical effects that put today's horror to shame.

After being dragged to Hell, the Halloweenies are back on track and returning to the woods for another cabin trip. Yes, deadites, it's the much-anticipated Ash Vs. Evil Dead episode and the gang saws through all three seasons of the underrated Starz series. Together, they discuss the evolution (or often de-evolution) of Ash Williams, the pros and cons of streaming vs. weekly watches, the showrunner shakeups, and, you guessed it, 2005's Kojak.

Big month for Cassandra Peterson.
