What is suicide : Suicide means ending your own life. It is sometimes a way for people to escape pain or suffering. When someone ends their own life, we say that they "died by suicide." A "suicide attempt" means that someone tried to end their life, but did not die.

The Suicide Act 1961 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It decriminalised the act of suicide in England and Wales so that those who failed in the attempt to kill themselves would no longer be prosecuted

Children growing up in lone-parent households are at significantly greater risk of committing suicide.

Every year 703 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and was the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally in 2019.

Suicide does not just occur in high-income countries, but is a global phenomenon in all regions of the world. In fact, over 77% of global suicides occurred in low- and middle-income countries in 2019

More than 700 000 people die due to suicide every year.

For every suicide there are many more people who attempt suicide. A prior suicide attempt is the single

most important risk factor for suicide in the general population.

Linzi Meaden lost her only sibling to suicide in June 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown.

This book is open and honest and written from the heart. It completely captures the initial rawness of sudden unexpected death, the shock and aftermath of suicide and what suicide leaves behind as well as how she got through the funeral, the inquest and everyday life since.

If you would more advice from Linzi about her experiences you can join her group : Paradisium is here to ensure your loved one's passing by suicide was never in vain.

We will all grow together.

How can I help someone who is thinking about suicide?

  • Take the other person seriously. They are in pain and they need help.
  • Show the other person that you are a good person to talk to. Do not judge them or make fun of them.
  • Trust is very important. Do not make promises that you cannot keep.
  • Show that you understand they have a serious problem. Do not give advice like, "cheer up" or "pull yourself together."
  • Say things like, "You are really important to me" or, "I don't want you to die." You can also say, "It makes sense that you feel like you do, but I can help you find other solutions."
