Now, it may make complete sense for Dementors, the soul-sucking ghoul-like creatures that feast on the happiness of people, to guard the many evil and dangerous witches and wizards who reside in the wizarding prison of Azkaban. However, it's not entirely clear as to why these dreadful beings are present around the not-yet-convicted witches and wizards kept in holding BEFORE they go to trial for their accused crimes.
