One of the biggest life upgrades I have ever made is choosing to abstain from alcohol. As someone who was a big drinker, I was surprised how focused social culture is on alcohol and drinking. I realised that going sober wasn't only about not drinking alcohol but it's also choosing to disconnect from the culture that enforces toxic behaviour.
This is why I now call it being 'uncultured' because in day to day life people are drinking to celebrate, drinking in grief, drinking to drown their sorrows, drinking because it's been a hard day and so on...
