Heartwork - Purification of The Heart: Heedlessness (Ghaflah)

Heartwork tonight will focus on a disease that is an absence of remembrance, a void in God-consciousness: ghaflah. We all know the disappointment of forgetting something important - imagine how frequently we forget Allah, and how we feel when we come upon that realization.⁠ ⁠ While we mentally know that our faith is the most important element of our lives, our heart may not always reflect that. The Prophet ﷺ warned us of the danger of falling into spiritual forgetfulness when he said, "The example of the one who remembers their Lord, in comparison to the one who does not remember their Lord, is that of a living person compared to a dead one."⁠ ⁠ The status of a spiritual heart being filled with life or being void and dead is directly related to how much we remember Allah. Battling this disease, ghaflah, is critical. What are its symptoms? Where does it come from?
