67 min • 9 juli 2019
In this episode Miranda speaks with Opal Ecker Deruvo a non-binary printmaker working in Norwalk, Connecticut. DeRuvo speaks about their early introduction to our craft at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, developing their traditional draftsmanship skills in order to express the critical queer moments in their life with the reverence of a seventeenth-century portrait, taking advantage of the omnipresence of smartphones to capture the candid, and sisterhood in queer communities. We also explore the idea of tenderness as revolution and the strength it takes to hold on it the face of our often brutal world. Update August 2020: Since the publication of this episode in July 2019, DeRuvo chosen the name Opal Ecker Deruvo. They are referred to as their previous name in this recording.
