Hipster & The Nerd explores one of the most bizarre combinations in cinematic history with a look at both Space Jam films! Join Chris and Brian as they discuss the strange plot, 90s topicality, hit-and-miss humor, killer soundtrack, great voice acting and animation, terrible Michael Jordan acting, and everything else in between that make the original Space Jam such an odd duck of a film and debate whether or not it's actually any good. Then, it's time for the main event where they dive into the crossover cameos, meta-satire, also hit-and-miss humor, better LeBron James acting, and nonsensical storyline of Space Jam: A New Legacy and debate whether or not that fitm is any good. Which film is better? Do either of them have any real merit? Should they have just talked about Looney Tunes: Back In Action instead? All of these questions and more are answered in this slam dunk of an episode!
P.S. We forgot to bring this up in the podcast, but character designer Dave Alvarez, who did a lot of design work for Space Jam: A New Legacy, much of which ended up in the final film and even merchandise and toys, was intentionally left off the film's credits without his knowledge or consent. This is emblematic of a larger, systemic issue in the animation industry and if you're going to be mad at that movie, be mad at that because it's a real problem that affects real people; instead of being mad at the supposed mishandling of fictional characters that don't exist.
