Andrea was the voice and casting director of all of your favorite animated series. Some of her credits are Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, Justice League, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and SO MUCH MORE! 

Andrea Romano is one of the key players in why animation today is so fantastic and continues to grow. She has directed more than 10,000 voice sessions, working on 1,600 TV episodes, more than 50 films, and 20 video games. 

Andrea generously shares stories about her childhood love for cartoons, how she became a voice director, memorable moments throughout her career, and the one person she wishes she could have directed. Of course, we only scratched the surface with her, so fret not, Andrea will be returning!

Phil LaMarr is an absolute legendary actor on camera and in voice-over. Seriously! If you go to his IMDB page, you’ll be amazed by all of his credits. Although his first big acting gig was voicing Woody in Mister T, he credits his experience in improv prepared him for transitioning into voice-over.

Phil shares with Will and Christy some of his favorite memories of his time in the voice-over world, from his audition process for Green Lantern to voice acting for video games to being in awe of his co-star’s talent in Samurai Jack. Phil’s love for acting, creating characters, and participating in the ever-expanding opportunities for voice-over is evident throughout this episode.

In this episode, A.J. details his winding journey of discovering VO, pursuing it as a career to now voicing main characters in multiple anime series.

Although new to the industry, A.J. has been passionately putting in the work for years to find representation, book jobs, and uplift fellow voice actors. A.J. shows how the hybrid model that the industry adopted during the pandemic opened up more opportunities to take workshops and receive auditions inquiries. A.J.’s faith in his talent allowed him to experiment with connecting with the right people who could support him as he continues to build his career.

We LOVED hearing A.J.’s journey and believe this is an excellent episode to engage in if you are interested in becoming a professional voice-over artist.

Cocomelon is an animated empire that shares nursery rhymes and educational songs for everyone. Cocomelon has become the soundtrack of many households with toddlers and young children.

In this episode, Kristen details how she booked her Cocomelon gig through Craigslist. She shares her experience as the Cocomelon brand has built an empire that is streaming on YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify, and it’s only just beginning. Will, Christy, and Kristen all discuss why Cocomelon is “addicting” to the young ones as everyone suggests and how Cocomelon represents the new media children are enjoying.

Kristen highlights a fascinating subgenre in the VO world that focuses mainly on singing and shares how she is still navigating her space in the industry. We hope to hear her voice (and sing) a princess someday! Kristen also offers excellent advice about vocal health, encouraging the removal of stigma over vocal injuries and how to view vocal damage just like any other athlete who experiences an injury.

EG is not only an incomparable voice-over artist, but she is also a notable on-camera actress AND AN ACTUAL ROCK STAR! EG shares how she always made voices as a child and set out to be a pop star. She stumbled into voice acting through a successful run of a musical where she portrayed a pro wrestler. 

She details how her first voice-over audition was for Tommy Pickles, which she still voices today. EG’s creativity has no bounds, which is evident in the music she continues to produce, the characters she voices, the one-woman show she performs, and the voice acting seminar that she teaches.

Will, Christy, and EG deep dive into her rock star days growing up in LA and her on-camera acting (which defined Will’s childhood). EG’s childlike spirit and openness are such a delight, which is why it was such a DELIGHT to have her voice two original characters.

Kevin shares how his Julliard training and love for Shakespeare inform the way he voices Batman. He also details the origin of how the two distinct voices between Bruce Wayne and Batman came to be. Kevin is such a generous artist. It’s evident in the way he’s mentored Will, but also in how he celebrates everyone person who acts or voices a Batman. He gives insight into why Batman is still a relevant and welcomed character to explore. 

Kevin also shares what cartoons he grew up watching and offers the sweetest story about his first imaginary friends. Although Kevin believes the Batman story is the ultimate true hero’s journey, Kevin is OUR TRUE HERO, and we think you’ll agree.
