I Wish I Knew THAT About Songwriting
This is the third in a series of regular segments we'll be bringing you breaking down our individual journeys as songwriters, as well as the practical tools we've picked up that you can apply to your own efforts.
- Why do you want to have your music on Spotify?
- Are playlists your best chance to get a career as a musician?
- Release meaningful, honest music
- It's a good idea to have a job that supports your artistry until you can live off of your art alone
- Play live shows
- Make sure you have an online presence to point people towards when asked about your music.
- Have recordings of your songs so your new fans can listen to them.
- Spend the minimum amount necessary online; this includes social media.
- Are you wildly in love with what you're doing?
- You make your money off of live shows, not streaming
Josh Gleaves' interview is Episode 30, released on March 18th 2022.
Grace Jackson's interviews are Episodes 35 and 36, released on June 25th and 31st 2022.
