It might be April 1st, but this is no joke - we are back! Grab your wine and join us for a discussion of Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name.
2:16 - Listener Toast
We missed our lovely listeners! Check out our new segment in which we raise our glasses and toast our listeners for their support.
8:15 - Where ya’ll been?
We explain where the f*ck we’ve been during our hiatus.
23:33 - Sh*t we liked and sh*t we didn’t like.
We get into the sh*t we liked - socialist airlines are great! As for the sh*t we didn’t like, racism and xenophobia are NEVER acceptable - not even during a pandemic. Be kind, wash your hands, and stay the f*ck at home!
42:28 - Corona Corner
We started a new segment in which we will be making a few “Rona recs” to lift your spirits. Kristine had a ball taking a virtual dance class with Debbie Allen. Jocelyn is all about D-Nice’s Club Quarantine on Instagram.
54:03 - Dolemite Is My Name
Dolemite Is My Name is a fun, delightful film and was the perfect choice for our return from hiatus. We begin by discussing our general experience with Blaxploitation films and the cultural significance of Rudy Ray Moore. Next, we talk about our overall reaction to the film and share our favorite scenes. We then share our MVP performances - Eddie Murphy is brilliant as Rudy Ray Moore and Da’Vine Joy Randolph is a revelation as Lady Reed. We salute the Oscar winning Ruth Carter’s spectacular work on the 70s-era fashions in the film. Give us all of the hats, leather jackets, and jumpsuits! Of course, no discussion would be complete without getting a little thirsty. We get into the objects of our thirst in the film and do a little fancasting.
