Dr. Demartini’s origin story
“I had a dream when I was 18 years old to wake up my mental capacities and create original ideas that served humanity.” - Dr. John Demartini
Dr. Demartini wished he could share the company of world’s most influential people and share his ideas with them. He related to the idea of a global family. He yearned to be inspired.
Throughout his life he has worked hard on all aspects of human life he later defined and called The 7 Powers of Human Life, which are:
He believes empowering yourself in all of these areas is the key to a meaningful and successful life, and his mission is to help others achieve just that through education and sharing his experience.
The Importance of Empowerment
“I don’t mean empowered by overpowering others. It’s just the power to live congruently and fulfill what’s truly meaningful and inspiring in priority to you.” - Dr. John Demartini
Empowerment is an essential step toward achieving self-actualization and unequivocally leads to self-improvement. It should be an important goal on our life’s journey because if we do not achieve empowerment, we will inevitably get overpowered. We need to pursue congruity with our highest values and reap the rewards from knowing that we’re fulfilling our true purpose in life. Dr. Demartini further concludes that if we do not implement this approach we will continue to live in the amygdala, interpreting the world in solely in terms of avoiding pain and seeking pleasure, which only leads to futility.
“If you don’t empower yourself intellectually you’ll be told what to think. If you don’t empower yourself vocationally you’ll be told what to do. If you don’t empower yourself financially you’ll be told what you’re worth.” - Dr. John Demartini
Empowerment is a question of inspiration, rather than motivation. Dr. Demartini purposefully makes a distinction between these two often interchangeable concepts, in order to accentuate the intrinsic nature of the energy that comes from being in line with your highest values and life goals.
“Whatever is highest on our value we are spontaneously inspired from within to fulfill.
And whatever is low on our values we require intrinsic motivation to get us to do it.” - Dr. John Demartini
Once we identify what we want from life and what are the things most important to us, our brain becomes maximally effective which further leads to maximizing achievement and self-worth. This feeling will allow us to pursue new challenges, and at this point in our lives, Dr. Demartini believes, is that we find integrity and leadership.
Life is Giving us Feedback, and We Need To Acknowledge It
“We’ve lost contact with the feedback mechanisms of our physiology and epigenetic feedback it is bringing.” - Dr. John Demartini
Our body is constantly sending us information about the current state we are in. If we are somewhat endangered or polluted in any way, we will instantly receive a message, a feedback that we need to know how to decipher and understand so that we can re-establish order to our lives and improve our well-being. This feedback is based on a very basic mechanism which we use to interpret reality.
“Whenever you resent something it represents a predator. Whenever you’re infatuated with something it represents the pray.”- Dr. John Demartini
Most personal problems we run into in life are connected to dealing with authority, injecting all of these self-inflicting boundaries that lie in the super-ego. We need to transcend these voices that tell us what we must do, rid ourselves of internal conflicts and allow ourselves to be unique and do something great in the world.
How to Uncover and Understand Your Values
“Every decision you make is based on what you believe will give you the greatest advantage or disadvantage to what you value most.” - Dr. John Demartini
In order to help people to understand what their highest values in life are, Dr. Demartini created an instrument which helps identify 13 value determinants. Further assessment will then isolate everything down to 3 main things that you value in life. Once you get a clear idea what is most important to you, you need to spend your time with activities that will help you fulfill your life goals, and delegate everything else.
Bear in mind that your values, however solid they might be, are prone to change. They are gradually modifying through life. The change in your values may also be a consequence of fulfilling your old ones and moving on to new challenges.
The Newfound Energy From Achieving Congruity with Your Values
“If you don’t fill your day with high priority actions that inspire you it fills up with low priority actions that don’t.” - Dr. John Demartini
When you are fulfilling your life’s purpose, you will find new sources of energy coming from within. It’s important to utilize and direct it towards achieving your goals. This is where planning and time management comes in. If you fill your day with activities that are meant to help you achieve self-actualization, and if you remember to stay persistent, over time you will build momentum which will guide you to a place you’ve always wanted to be.
“You have to be able to say no to things that aren’t a priority if you’re going to say yes to things that are a priority” - Dr. John Demartini
Ask yourself are the things you’re doing bringing you closer to achieving your goals. If not, look to delegate them so that you can spend time doing things that will bring you the most joy and fulfillment. You also need to learn how to say “no”. We all try to act selflessly and even though spending time doing things that don’t offer us purpose may help others in short-term, looking at the grand scheme of things, it can also do more harm than good.
“Give yourself permission to do something extraordinary on planet Earth.
The true you is extra ordinary.” - Dr. John Demartini
