Jughead’s Basement is hosted by Screeching Weasel, Mopes, and Even In Blackouts’ co-founder John Jughead Pierson. The podcast has three subcategories: Dissections of punk records. Long-form interviews of punk & alternative musicians, comedians, and underground performers. Plus, lastly, an old fashion radio adventure that tells the twisted tale of two men attached to one body roaming an unknown mansion meeting and interviewing different guests every episode.
The podcast Jughead’s Basement is created by John "Jughead" Pierson. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).

Steve Albini's Life Celebration Reissue of The Big Black Episode from October 2014.
Interviews with Steve Albini, Santiago Durango, Jeff Pezzati, Camilo Gonzalez, Jim DeRogatis, and Russ Forster.
July 22nd is the date of Steve Albini's Birthday. I never do rebroadcasts of past episodes but I was informed of the idea for a life celebration of Steve on his birthday, so I was encouraged to participate. The episode is worth it. One of my best. Much of the credit goes to my partner in this Russ Forster and of course to Steve and Santiago.
- Jughead
Big Black’s aggressive and abrasive music was characterized by distinctively clanky guitars and the use of a drum machine (who they lovingly called Roland) elements which pre-cursored industrial rock. The band acknowledged no taboos and Albini’s lyrics openly dealt with loaded topics including murder, rape, child sexual abuse, and racism. They also held staunch principles, shunning the mainstream music industry and insisting on complete control over all aspects of their career. This podcast attempts to tell a portion of the history of the band from the perspective of their ep Bulldozer through their first full length record Atomizer. (Marking a transition from a project purely conceived by Steve Albini into a cohesive band with the added influences from collaborators Santiago Durango and Dave Riley.) This episode is co-hosted by Russ Forster and includes interviews with band members Santiago Durango, Steve Albini, and Jeff Pezzati, including extra interview material with friend and fellow songwriter/musician Camilo Gonzalez. Lastly an audio piece written by journalist/novelist/radio personality Jim DeRogatis. Russ Forster is a perennial dabbler in the underground and eccentric. Past exercises in cognitive dissonance include Underdog Records, 8-Track Mind magazine, documentaries So Wrong They're Right and Tributary, and various and sundry bands and acts like his current extreme-solo project Rakehell. Assistant Editor: Jason Brow of the 6ftplus Podcast.

Jughead’s Basement featuring Moral Crux’s 1998 release Something More Dangerous released on Panic Button Records. Moral Crux formed in 1983 with frontman then and now James Farris and the then guitar player Jeff Jenkins. Soon down the line they would add the incredible bass player Justin Warren and they would go on to release various recordings with a diverse amount of smaller labels such as Velveteen Records, Polemic records, Vandal Children Records, Monitor Records before Ben Weasel approached them and convinced them they needed a proper release on the Lookout/Panic Button record label he and I were running at the time. The album was recorded with Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette Indiana, and now on this episode we bring you singer songwriter James Farris, Bass payer Justin Warren, and producer Mass Giorgini to give us a lesson in good strong pop punk songwriting from Moral Crux

Welcome again to Lo-Fi Interviews with Hi-Fi guests, Teacher, Mike Lamphere. This is the second in a series of four interviews I have conducted and will release consecutively with Punks working in the fields of service to the common good. I have interviewed, a punk doctor, teacher, police officer, and firefighter. Listen to Mike and John talk about The Fairness of Authority, Moral Models, Chicago Punk Rock, and how to guide the younger generations even though we are older and don't quite understand them. (as it should be). Dr. Mike Lamphere was born in Chicago, Illinois and spent his formative years in the pit at the Fireside Bowl, Metro, and various clubs in the Chicagoland area. While attending undergrad college he was an active member of the scene in Carbondale, IL where he played in the Riff Randells as a member of the Lost Cross Music Co-op. In 2000 he moved to Denver and then Colorado Springs where he is still an active member in the local music scene. He finished his PhD in 2012 and after 16 years of teaching English and film classes has moved in to a role as Dean of Students at an Early College Program. He currently is writing music for an upcoming project as well as a piece on music and youth culture/identity.

The Promise Ring’s Nothing Feels Good
Released October 14 1997
I came to the Promise Ring late in their career, but their 2nd full length record, Nothing Feels Good, quickly became one of my most played records. I believe this to be one of the most solid records from beginning to end in all of the post punk genres of which I am familiar.
This podcast features individual interviews with all of the band members appearing on Nothing Feels Good, Singer/Songwriter Davey von Bholen, Second Guitarist Jason Gnewikow, Drummer Dan Didier, and Bassist Scott Beschta. This episode also includes an interview with Gub Scott Conway of Gauge, Screeching Weasel, and Even In Blackouts. Plus two written audio pieces by Promise Ring fans Rust Belt Jessie and Joe Jacob.
There is much hard work put into these podcasts to attempt to make them as thorough as possible. If you are enjoying the products of this hard work on a consistent basis please share with others or donate some cash to the cause.

Bhopal Stiffs strikes close to my heart. They were the first band Screeching Weasel played with in Chicago, outside of our suburban homes. We played at a 21 and over club that was called Batteries Not Included. There was barely an audience there to see either bands but when Bhopal Stiffs got on stage their energy, music and commitment blew me away. They are first on my top two punk shows that I have ever seen.

The Vindictives’ 1999 release of HYPNO PUNKO™
With interviews of each band member represented on the record:
Joey Vindictive, Johnny Personality, Billy Blastoff, Jenny Gee, and Angel Ledezma.
An eccentric punk rock concept record in the midst of most pop punk bands pushing for a piece of the mainstream? Well… sorta the history. Listen and explore the depth of this very personal record conceived by the band’s frontman Joey Vindictive.
Assistant Editor: Jason Brow of the 6ftplus Podcast.
