Ep 82 // What Daniel Teaches Us About Fasting for Personal and Corporate Repentance

We are in a season of transition - personally and corporately. What do we do as Kingdom people when life feels like too much? Too heavy? Too chaotic? We lean into Jesus and cast all our anxieties on Him! And sometimes we need to own our junk and ask for forgiveness to experience freedom and move forward.

• What Daniel teaches us in chapter 9 about fasting and praying to plead to God on behalf of his people.

Let’s be honest. No one likes to be pruned. Because - it hurts! BUT - we will learn in today’s episode that pruning is not optional. It is essential if you want to bear much fruit for Kingdom impact and God’s glory. 

Welcome to the final installment of “The SO THAT” series! Together we are studying the connector phrase “so that” as it relates to Scripture. This tiny little phrase will lead you deeper into the heart of God SO THAT Christ may be glorified in your life and on this earth.

In short, this series explores the REASON for the ACTION and BELIEF of the Christian faith. Why does any of this matter?

FOCUS in this episode: John 15:1-3

Things we will explore in this episode: 

• The SO THAT connection in John 15.

• What happens to the branches that don’t bear fruit.

• The science behind pruning for plants. 

• Three important things that happen because of pruning!

• A question you can ask yourself daily to evaluate your alignment with the Lord.

Reflection questions you’ll ask yourself in this episode:

• What is your natural first response to trouble, heart ache? To whom do you naturally turn?

• In what areas of your life do you feel you are bringing honor to God’s name? Celebrate that! (Family, relationships, job, spiritual growth…)

• On the flip side, is there any area of your life that isn’t bringing honor to God’s name? Ask the Holy Spirit to bring loving conviction. And then bring it to the cross. Give it to Jesus. He can forgive and transform you at any point!

• If you are called to release something specific and walk in a new way with God - what support do you need to do this well and bear fruit?

• What is your hot button trigger as a parent? What do your kids do that bothers you? Why does it bother you so much? 

• How do you tend to handle being "set off" as a parent? 

• What do you do as a parent that drives your kids crazy? What exasperates them? 

• Share a time you chose to humbly apologize to your kid(s). What happened? How did it feel to do so?

• Do you have a disconnected relationship with a child? If yes, what happened? Why do you think it got to this place?

• Do you think you have any unreasonable expectations for your kids? If so, what are they? 
• Describe your deepest desire for your kids. What do you want your relationship with them to look like both now and in the future? What will it take to achieve this?
• Ask God to show you His vision for your kids. What does He show you about their purpose and future?
• What letter/text/or message can you send your kids right now to encourage them?

Do you ever wonder HOW you should spend your TIME? How do you know when it’s time to make a big move? Walk away? Dig in…? Discernment is KEY!

• The two types of time that exist: CHRONOS and KAIROS.

• Chronos = chronological time. The linear timeline of our lives. 

• The stress of feeling like you’re “losing” time. 

• Kairos = how God shapes/sees time. Access to another dimension. 

• The fullness of what God is doing in any given moment that supersedes chronological time. 

• Why do we care about this distinction? How does this understanding shape our lives?

• Lesson from 2 Corinthians 6:1-3

• The beauty of reflecting on the past in order to determine what God did and what He is doing even now - garnering Kingdom perspective. 

• We are often scared to ask God what’s going on because we are limited in our understanding of time. 

• Chronological time will tempt you to live afraid. 

• When you live into the truth of what God is doing - it will SET YOU FREE.

Reflection questions you’ll ask yourself in this episode:

• Name a confusing or complicated situation. What might God be doing in this situation? Mine for divine gold - understanding the KAIROS in this circumstance.

• How are you experiencing God’s divine favor over your life right now?

• Are you truly walking in the grace and peace God offers?

• Where in your life do you sense God’s divine invitation to have a more patient, peaceful perspective?

• How are you discerning the signs of the time in your own life? Map and mark what’s happening in your house, work, church, community right now… Lock in the chronological timeline. And then ask God - what are you doing here? Show me your perspective.
